I made a quilt! But not just any quilt-this one’s made from vintage doilies, lace, and scrap fabrics, and it’s for one of my bestest friends extra-special birthday! Picture a dreamy mix of cream and white fabrics, with a little pop of contrast to keep things interesting. It’s a mashup of reclaimed textiles, upcycled treasures, and lots of sewing magic. In this video, I’ll show you how I turned a pile of seemingly random fabrics and vintage doilies into a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind quilt that turned out absolutely gorgeous (just like my friend!). If you’re into quilting, sewing with unique textiles, or making meaningful gifts, you’re going to love this project. So come hang out and sew with me-this one’s all about having fun and making something truly special.
awww thanks! i never thought i would get addicted to it! but it is so much fun! i'm already planning my next one.... i think i might do something with GREEN! and perhaps follow an actual pattern! haha
Hello Karla!!! Judy from Oklahoma USA here. Just happened upon your channel. Have never seen you before and I did subscribe because I want to see more of what you are sharing with us!!!! I absolutely loved watching you and this quilt is absolutely and wonderfully and stunningly made. Love, love, love it. I am most anxious to see what else you have shared. I have only been quilting for about 3-4 years, but have been sewing since I was 10 and I am now 69. I learned to sew on my mother's Singer treadle machine, and no I do not have it. Sure wish I did. I don't know what happened to it. I love, love quilting and have become completely and totally addicted to it. It is sooooo much fun. I am on and forward off to check out your other videos. Thank you sooooooo very much for sharing your talent with us and I look forward to more. 🩷
Beautiful quilt. Thank you for using repurposed materials. I have a lot of doilies and was wondering what to do as a quilt so you have helped me get some good ideas. Thank you
I am so glad you are inspired to make your own unique quilt! 🥰 i have ALOT of doilies still, i am going to make myself a quilt with them and also maybe some curtains! they'd be super cute as motifs on throw pillows too i reckon :)
Velveteen binding is so so luxurious! Doilies add a very pretty, vintage touch. When we make a quilt for a special person in mind we have to forfeit our own color and style preference. But that makes it fun and helps us grow, with choosing a variety of color pallets. I recently had a request for a quilt in 70s colors, my 1st thought was ug%hh!!#. But after some color collecting and some Kaffe brights thrown in for a little pizzazz it turned out beautifully. Your quilt is gorgeous!
You’re absolutely right, the joy of making quilts for someone else makes it so rewarding! 💖 that 70s quilt you made sounds amazing! i'd love to get my hands on some kaffe fasset fabrics one day! Thank you :)
That is a beautiful improvised quilt, and adding the lace over the top of the bold orange was a genius idea, along with the doilies. Gorgeous! Adding strips on opposite sides of the centre piece is like a ‘Courthouse Steps’ block.
Thank you! It is truly a quilt full of memories and sentimental stories. I didn’t say in the video, but the doilies were actually given to me by my grandmother (I have so many!) many of which were handmade by her or her sisters! Rather than them sit in my cupboard forever, I figured they can live on and be enjoyed in a quilt by someone very dear to me 🥰
This was a beautiful quilt, thank you for sharing your process. Very inspiring! As for sewing machine service as you called it, that is just basic machine maintenance 101 we all should be doing to keep our machines happy and running well. I pay for a service by a technician if it requires any electrical components checked/ replaced, the machine needs to be completely disassembled, timing reset or computer boards needing work etc. I enjoyed this video and subscribed ❤
Thank you :) thank you for sharing your tips on machine maintenance. i've always wondered what people do! i googled how to service my own as the bernina service centre in the city i live keeps your machine for 5 weeks! which would just NOT do! hah
Beautiful . I have a lot of doilies which I will just have to use for a quilt. Lol. I think the neutral colors were better as they will blend nicely with any decor Well done 😊
Thank you :) i agree - it's quite funny that she was keen on a more neutral one as her house is crazy colourful and amazingly maximalist! but the neutrals pair so well with the doilies :)
I don’t currently have wall space either, I added some clips to my shower curtain and just hang my quilt tops there, or just pin blocks onto the curtain while I’m building.
oooh pinning to a curtain is a good idea! i have thick drapes in my bedroom which might work... the floor is so challenging for me as i can't leave the blocks too long otherwise my children start to play with them!

What did you use for batting? Lucky friend
