@@matyasd007 🤣 I don’t refer to the fact that it moves (to the right and the left) in general. That’s of course intended. I mean the movement upwards und downwards
The compass movement and not 100% alignment to the numerals are exactly like on the previous model and are not great, but also not an issue in practice. Usually gets unnoticed in everyday use. Found green not really universal in strap color choice and would go for the white version if I would go that route again...one of the most beautiful Seiko Sports watch cases imho and a perfect size...nominal size is the same as my 214270 Explorer but it feels way smaller on wrist, which is a good thing for me
'Alpinish'. Got it in one :) That internal bezel play is BAD. I've got a 1977 Pogue with an internal moving bezel that can be rotated without play and with just the right amount of resistance, so that it doesn't move while you wear it. What went wrong?
The compass “issue” is well within the usefulness of this feature. Analog watches are not exactly surveyor grade compasses but will prevent you from getting turned around in the field. The low contrast between the green face and the gold numbers make it more of an urban watch than an expedition watch, you need to see it at a glance, more contrast preferred. The strap it came with suggests Seiko understood that, your more rustic strap attempts to make it more rustic. I don’t see it that way. Just my thoughts…
Thank you very much for your comment and subscribing! Somehow my watch-buying compass is still not calibrated as I just ordered the SPB199J. Yeah, it’s the watch Virus😅
The "play" in the compass ring is probably a defect in his (this) individual watch. I have one and have seen several others and they have no such problem.

I like your video but I would've like to see what the watch ⌚️ looked like in the 🌞 sunlight. I like the old model that had more sunburst reflection. Someone is buying this model for me and I hope it has enough green color to it
I’m looking at buying this watch but I’m not sure whether to go for this model or the older model. I do like the Prospex logo the cyclops and the clasp on this one. The newer one is around £120 more than what I might pay for an older model and there’s questionable watches on eBay plus with a new one you get a guarantee and you can guarantee it’s a genuine watch.
You pretty much summed up all arguments that also bothered me before finally buying this one. In the end it was the power reserve of 70hours and the fact that I wasn’t willing to pay the relatively high prices for the old model and preferred to get a new and definitely genuine one.
watchyouwant? I think I’ll buy the newer version just for that piece of mind and just tell myself I missed the boat on the SARB017. I’ll probably wear it on the supplied strap and maybe a NATO strap.
James C you might want to wait a little longer. Seiko are releasing the new alpinist soon. This one is alpinist inspired. Search for the seiko 2020 catalog
@mandeep Virdee: This is the “new Alpinist”. There is no Alpinist on the dial etc. but it’s the successor of the SARB017 NO DOUBT about it! The new models in the Catalogue are also “Alpinist inspired” if you will.
This is a 4 year old video, but I have to ask, who manufactures the strap that you put on this watch? I just purchased one of these and don't like the dress strap it comes with. I'd also like to swap it out with a more casual, but quality leather strap.

Does any one know if there is a difference between Seiko SBDC093 and Seiko SPB123J1 Why does Seiko use different model numbers for the same watch since it seams both are made in Japan
SPB indicates that it is the global model number, SBDC033 that it is the Japanese one. Apart from that there’s no difference (unlike with the “K models” that are manufactured outside of Japan.
Don’t think so. Because it probably didn’t trigger many buying decision for more expensive Seikos. But I think that Seiko unfortunately realized, that it could raise its prices
A remark from a professional geographer: there is NO compass by any definition. It is only a bezel with the markers as the assistance of the "old scoout trick" ;) (Seiko is misleading in case that claiming there is a compass). Othwise a nice watch... I have it just because... I am an alpinist in real :)

Het ontwerp is prachtig. Maar de speling in de kompasring is slordig. Ook de wijzers zijn niet glad afgewerkt. De cijfers zijn mooi afgewerkt maar kunnen mooier. Unacceptable chapter ring alignment issues on a $775 watch from Seiko and doesn’t convey anything to the so called Japanese precision. I have this btw and yes they don’t align
@Star_Sn1per Regarding the Prospex logo, if I have to choose I prefer the little "X" over the SARB017's "DIASHOCK 23 JEWELS" printed in white capitals and an ugly typeface across the dial. Apparently one can't have everything - which for me would be nothing (neither "X" nor "DIASHOCK..."), and the "20 Bar" could also have stayed on the case back, while the remaining nice "Automatic" script could've been printed in a more suitable colour. Signed crown? Personally I don't care either way, it was just an "S" on the SARB017. I don't mind signed crowns as such when I think it adds to the design, in this case I don't mind the absence of yet another logo. Cyclops? It's an actually useful feature considering the otherwise small date window, but still a matter of taste, not right or wrong. Red Alpinists also had cyclopses. Fortunately it's just a feature of the crystal, which can be replaced with something else.
The issue with the compass is presented at 06:09.
