I just received my alpinist a few days ago and am saving for a strapcode bracelet also as I think that will be how I will truly enjoy the watch. I don't like the stock strap. Thankyou for sharing your experience with your alpinist.
Did you ever get your hands on a Sarb017 or are you satisfied with the 121? I accidentally hit buy now on a new old stock Sarb for way more than I should spend (via eBay) and I’m toying with going for broke, since the prospex would’ve been my sensible compromise. I end up thinking of all the things I can do with the extra money and there’s always that fear of ending up with a fake.
No, I haven’t got the chance to try on the SARB017 but it definitely was one of the inspirations for going for the 121. Am I satisfied? YES! IMHO, they’re practically the same watch. The 121 just offers more value for the money in the sense that it is relatively cheaper to get nowadays.
@@TheAmbitiousPeasant That’s great to hear! I’m a little nervous about the eBay buy and their authentication. It’s really tempting to just go for the SPB if I found a good deal. I can overlook the X, but I’ve been on the fence about the white date and cyclops. It pulls the eye. A steel back with alpinist branding would’ve been nice too, but you know what they say about beggars hah
@@exsleepyink 😂 I think you have the budget. I say if your heart is set on the SARB then go for it (with caution). At the end of the day, we don’t want to be stuck with something we compromised on, especially in the watch world. We tend to still lust for the one that we originally wanted. But that’s just me. 😁. Take this unsolicited advice with a grain of salt.
@@TheAmbitiousPeasant Technically, I don’t really have the budget, but I’ll pull some money together 😅. Normally I’m a sensible minimalist, being chronically ill. But you’re right about probably not being able to scratch the itch of the original. Maybe I’ll give the SPB a try on, before committing to my purchase. Thanks for the help :) PS. I’m delighted to find another female watch reviewer in the horology community. Y’all are few but appreciated. I enjoyed this review. I would like to make a couple suggestions: you don’t want to change the date on an automatic watch “in the danger zone” which is between, roughly, 9-3. You can avoid this by setting the time to 6:30 and then changing the date. There are videos that cover this about mistakes to avoid with automatic watches (something like that). Secondly, to give us a better perspective on the size of the watch share a couple extra details like your wrist size and lug to lug length of the watch which can make a big difference in how big or small that 39mm watch wears. I hope this doesn’t sound critical and that you find this feedback helpful as I want your channel and reviews to do well. All the best to you. Keep up the watch reviews.
@@monicawilson896Be sorry for nothing. How is one suppose to know? The voice is feminine leaning but I definitely see what you’re because most women aren’t into this hobby.
This Seiko SPB 121J1 when worn, the power reserve (PR) can automatically identify it not according to the design! I have worn it for a few weeks, quite beautiful, accurate (error + 8 to +10 seconds / 1 day), continuously over 8 hours a day, only 38-40 hours, so it's a bit sad (design Reserve 70 hours), according to me when wearing 8 hours spent, the PR must be over 48 hours to be worth the money (Saturday + Sunday not wearing). ACE has this wrist watch continuously for about 8-10 hours and let me know if the results are stored? Thanks!
Man, I could not get used to the Date Just's crystal sitting up so proud like that. I'd be bashing it on everything. It wouldn't last a week in my hands! And the look of it side on is not too nice either. Still it is a Rolex...I'l give you that. I'm not sure why you would choose to buy what is generally considered a mountaineers watch. Do you do a lot of hiking? It seems a little manly on your wrist. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I take it you are ok with that? I personally think the original SARB017 looks a little daintier. Have you tried one on? I think you would prefer that if you saw it in person. I wanted one for two years before I finally got my hands on one, and I must admit I was a little shocked at how small the watch is for a man and how dainty it seemed. It's growing on me. Thank you for your review and thoughts on the newer model. 👍
Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts! I welcome them! To answer your question on as to why a mountaineer’s watch? Just because I love the looks of it. You didn’t need to drill holes to fit the strapcode on the SPB121?
No I didn’t
