    You can charge batteries in series, but you have to take some precautions in the circuit. I have a sharp palmtop that charges two A size NiMH batteries in series. The charge voltage is 5V from the transformer. Presumably it is charging at less than that. It has a heat sensor which will break contact when it gets hot.

    Hmm, how do you connect if you are using the standard Zero? Or would that be something you would have to set up on another Zero setup and then pop the card over?

    • @Howchoo
      @Howchoo  5 лет назад

      That would certainly work. Or you can remove it from the GPi, connect a WiFi/Ethernet dongle, and log in. Absolute worst case, you could look at what the safe shutdown shell (.sh) script is doing and recreate it/download all those files locally.

    • @Idelacio
      @Idelacio 5 лет назад

      @@Howchoo Honestly I think the issue I was concerned with won't be a problem anyway, looking at power benchmarks it seems that the W uses the same power as the base Zero if you turn off the wifi and blutooth on the boot partition. At that point it's just a case of popping out the sd card and messing about on the boot partition on the PC when I want to reactivate. :)

    FOR THOSE ON MAC HAVING ISSUES WITH LOADING ROMS:
    The homie u/jackfennimore on Reddit SAVED me as I was going nuts trying to figure this out. So if your Mac and Pi are connected to the same network and powered on, the Retropie volume should mount automatically.
    HOWEVER if it doesn't (like it did for me), you can connect directly to the GPi via the GPi's IP address (in a Finder window, click "Go" on the top menu, then "connect to server", then connect as a "Guest" instead of the Admin/main user).
    I thought my issue had to do with our Google WiFi being 5ghz, but it appears that wasn't an issue after all.....I just reloaded EVERYTHING (I think I got corrupted on the first go-round), followed u/jackfennimore's tip, and I was finally able to drag and drop my ROMs into the destination folders! Hope this helps! :]

    • @Howchoo
      @Howchoo  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, if you ever connected to "another" Raspberry Pi running RetroPie (which shared the @retropie hostname), your computer may attempt to connect to that previous device's IP instead. I always change the hostnames of my Pis to something more unique and easier to identify -- as you can imagine, I can have ~5 running in my house at any given time. Here's a guide for doing that: howchoo.com/g/nmyzm2u0nwu/how-to-change-the-hostname-of-your-raspberry-pi

      Ah yes, so when you’re typing the password you won’t see any output. I.e. no “dots” or anything will come up. So you need to make sure you enter it correctly. If you think you mistyped something before pressing enter, just hit backspace like 20 times to make sure it’s cleared out completely. Let me know how that works out.

      That's definitely . weird. Do you have another Pi you can try? Or a different SD card? Does this still happen if you don't have the safe shutdown script installed?

    • @TheShadowGuyver
      @TheShadowGuyver 5 лет назад

      @@Howchoo So I have reinstalled Retropie 4.4 again and installed the patch and safe shutdown script. I read on Reddit to disable fsck as a temp solution.
      You need Notepad++ to do this:
      Put the SD Card in your PC
      Then Open "cmdline.txt"
      then change, "fsck.repair=yes" to "fsck.repair=no"
      This seems to have solved that problem..for now.

    I've tried for hours tonight to try to get the wpa_supplicant.conf to work it never connects or shows an ip. I've probably restarted the gpi over 25 times it takes ages just to find out nothing happened. I'm finding all the youtubers guides with slightly different wpa_supplicant.conf settings which ive attempted many with no success on notepad++ and plain text document on windows.
    I have 2 different access points in my house one cox and the other century link they are both wpa-wpa2 I've tried them both set for 2.4ghz with no success combined with also editing and retrying with the updated config. Please help :{

      @Howchoo  4 года назад

      So I've seen a few people with this problem and in a few cases the issue was with the Raspberry Pi itself. This may seem like a stupid question, but are you sure you're using a Raspberry Pi Zero *W*, and not a normal Raspberry Pi Zero? Only the W has WiFi/Bluetooth. Assuming you are, here are three different things to try:
      1. Remove the Zero from the GPi to make sure everything (including the pogo pins) is seated correctly
      2. Reinstall RetroPie from scratch. This is super common -- the image got corrupted somehow, so the issue isn't that WiFi isn't connecting so much as it is that the Pi isn't booting at all. If it doesn't boot correctly, it may not consume your wpa_supplicant file.
      3. Remove the Zero from the GPi, connect a monitor and keyboard, and then manually connect to WiFi by running `sudo raspi-config` on the command line. Only thing to note -- since the patch scripts tell the Pi to output video over GPIO, you'll need to revert those changes so that it will output via HDMI again. You'll also need a micro USB adapter and mini HDMI adapter/cable to connect it to a monitor.
      I'm guessing it's #2, but try all 3 in order and let me know if that works.

    PSA: On retroflags website under the support > gpi download area, there is a question and answer relating to speeding up load times via changing the localisation settings. DO NOT DO THIS!
    I found out the hard way this most likely is the cause for "unhandled alignment exception ... Bus error" which causes emulation station to crash to prompt. Will happen fairly often and mostly seen during emulation station idling on the menu selection area.
    I fixed the problem via setting my localisation to AMERICA and then picking a city.
