This whole album is great - all Laura's favourite songs
Labelle became famous due to Laura asking them to sing with her in this song and album!!. For those that don't know Laura Nyro is one of the most epic musical genius, singers and artist of all time. She wrote all her songs (but did a remake of this one) played wonderful piano (without knowing any musical notes) produced her work she did and had it all!!
Interesting...but I thought they were already a famous girl group?
@@EmpressReacts No, not yet, this is still in the 70's, Labelle was not yet famous or "known"..
Love Laura Nyro
Patti LaBelle was already famous in the early 60's as the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. Their live version of You'll Never Walk Alone (in black and white from a theatre in Brooklyn, 1964/65/?; had been a hit record in 1962) was the greatest live performance I've ever seen. They had a couple of other hits, Down the Aisle and I Sold My Heart to the Junkman. One of the Bluebelles was Cindy Birdsong, who replaced Florence Ballard in The Supremes. The other two Bluebelles later joined Patti when she formed LaBelle much later.
@@Rhiannon011Labelle was the 2nd act for Patti Labelle & the Bluebelles. In the 60s, they were a popular quartet until Cindy Birdsong left to join the Supremes. Patti, Nona and Sarah got a new manager, rebranded the group as Labelle and kept performing into the late 70s
Thank you for your reaction to Laura Nyro. A hero and one of the most stunning souls we have had the pleasure to listen to. And you are a joy to watch because you truly are enjoying it. Much love!
Thank you too!
I'm so glad you got to hear Laura nyro
Patti LaBelle was the Godmother to Laura's one and only child, a son named Gil Bianchini. I love Laura Nyro and this whole album.
Oh cool
They all sound so good together perfect group of ladies
Thanks for playing and reacting to Laura Nyro and Labelle. I have this album on CD/MP3. Great album. Take care.☮
Np!
This is such an amazing album. Every song is great! and each track is with LaBelle, with Laura on piano., Laura Nyro was one of the greatest songwriters we've had, but her most famous songs were done by other singers. Laura is singing along with LaBelle on some of the background as well.,
Rondstadt?!
@@EmpressReacts Sorry...typo. I meant Laura was singing with LaBelle on some vocals. Btw, the first album by LaBelle was released in 1971, the same year as this album, and Laura and Patti were friends . Before the 70s, Patti and the other members released some songs under the name The Bluebelles, then Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles.
Love you Laura, your voice pulls me through the worst times...keep holding my hand, i need the strength
May I add my voice to those saying *PLEASE* dive deeper into the world of Laura Nyro (pronounced Neero btw), as she was a stone GENIUS, a unique singer, songwriter and musician, who influenced countless others who followed in her wake (including titans like Joni Mitchell and Elton John, who've both acknowledged her influence on them). Pretty much any song from her first five studio albums is worth it, but the middle three are, for my money, essential records. Poverty Train, Eli's Coming, You Don't Love Me When I Cry, Save The Country, and Brown Earth are all fantastic songs and performances.
Noted!
You have to listen to more Laura
Patti remained a close friend ans fan as I saw her perform at ''Laura's memorial concert in 1997,. Laura was a musical genius, 3 octave voice and much much more.
The way you deliver it with YOUR awesine voice, you got it!
Wow thank u‼️🙏🏾
Great request here. I love Laura -- have requested about 25 of her songs on another reaction channel. I loved your positive response to her, Empress -- knowing your good taste I'm not surprised that you instantly noted the high quality . 😊
thanks!
***LAURA NYRO TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....all I need, is a Miracle.... ; ) (1:29)
- ....Empress, listen up....Laura Nyro is One of the most...THE most influential Female Songwriters of ALL-TIME, writing hit after hit for The 5th Dimension, Barbra, Diana, Blood Sweat & Tears & 3 Dog Night, shaping up the Pop Music sound of the early 70's....
- ....Laura has SUCH a long history, that I cannot even break it down! ...She is an ICON... This tune was from a covers Album in 1971(One of the 1st 'covers' LP's, EVER); The same-titled LP was One of the most influential 'Blue Eyed Soul' LP's of ALLTIME, with the obvious help of LaBelle, who wound up getting a Record deal, after the release of this LP, & getting a Glam-Rock makover.....
- ....Laura passed in 1997, and is considered the Woman who shaped Pop Music...She is VERYVERYVERYVERYVERYVERY, V-E-R-Y Important...I mean IT...... ; ) (5:45)
Interesting didn't know that about her and I'm confused about Labelle. Weren't they already an established girl group?
@@EmpressReacts ...NOT as 'Labelle', they broke up as 'Patti Labelle & The Blue Belles' in the mid-60's, & was just doing background work, until THIS Album...then, they reunited as 'Labelle' (a Trio), and started again in 1971....
@@RBS_ oh wow‼️
@@EmpressReacts ...oh! ...and Cindy Birdsong (of the Supremes) was STOLEN from Patti &The Blue Belles, to replace 'Flo' in the Supremes in 1968....that's why they broke up...and, why Diana & Patti have SUCH 'beef'....
@RBS now that part I know. In their old age Patti Say they have r3conciled
Love this by the Laura
You must get more Laura Nyro…Emily is a great song
Great cover. Not too many, still to this day can give those LaBelle harmonies.
Whew!🔥🔥🔥
Coming through with the facts as usual 💯
😊😊
During the mid to late 1960's, I noticed at least three different music bands recorded wonderful hits that Laura Nyro had written.
"And When I Die" by Blood Sweat & Tears
""Sweet Blindness" by The 5th Dimension
"Stoney End" by Barbra Streisand
My personal favorite is the Sara Bareilles "Stoney End" 2012 tribute to Laura Nyro's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Oh wow! She wrote Stoney End! I reacted to that. ruclips.net/video/yNjiL6nDOl8/видео.html
@@EmpressReacts, I know right?
That's exactly what happened to me when I started to hear how many songs I like that are written by her, like:
"Stoned Soul Picnic" The 5th Dimension
"Wedding Bell Blues" The 5th Dimension
"Save The Country" The 5th Dimension
Unfortunately, I didn't know about her phenomenal talent until after she had passed away.
Laura also wrote Wedding Bell Blues, a #1 hit for the 5th Dimension and Eli’s Coming, a big hit for Three Dog Night. In my opinion Laura Nyro was the greatest singer songwriter of them all, but never wanted the fame, she was a very private person who just wanted to make music her way.
@@mikegriffin415, I agree.
I watched a documentary about Laura Nyro telling of how she became a millionaire at age 22!
Laura and David Geffen established a publishing company, Tuna Fish Music. Under which all the proceeds from her music would be shared equally with David Geffen.
When they sold Tuna Fish Music to CBS for $4.5 million. Laura and David shared equally the proceeds and they both became millionaires.
Not bad for a 22 year old song writer, eh?
@@martyemmons1859 I’m going to have to find that documentary, I read her biography by Michelle Kort and have to admit I have a bit of a Laura Nyro obsession since I discovered her in 2021. I bought the song book published by Tuna Fish Music in 1971 of her first 44 recorded songs, I will always cherish it.
Goddamn, girl, do the whole fuckin album. Nyro is the absolute bomb, but Labelle pretty much steal the show on lotsa these cuts...you got a great voice, too, by the way. And omg, you really gotta hear the break on 'You really got a hold on me" from the same album. Labelle just takes it to a whole other multiverse
I love your reaction and voice ❤❤❤
thanks!!
Laura Nyro died far too young. You have a very nice voice.
Thanks! And that's a shame to hear
I have this release, it has several really nice covers and some Laura Nyro originals. Nyro's vocals are a little too piercing at times. Not sure if it's a production issue or just the live venue. But anyway, still great.
💯💯
Next
Track should be “The Bells” if you loved
This one
This is the best version of this song in my book 🤩
