This man is a musical genius. He plays all instruments and synthesizers himself on his solo albums for the most part. He does all of his own background vocals as well
Remember, this was 50 years ago ... mentality was different ... sometimes it does not make sense in present day. Sometimes maybe it was a better era ... or not. Peace.
I have always been blown away by this song. I know about 100 more that at right at this level. 60's to 80's was an incredible time for the music industry. Then big business took hold and killed a lot of the creativity.
⬆️ This. ⬆️ - Super E's post. 50s To early 80s artists were influenced by R & B - so tons of 70s songs have amazing instrumentals & then-leading edge production value. Amazing.
@@EmpressReacts The Melodies are just not nearly as good as they used to be. The production is technically amazing, but lacks creativity. I know a lot about how the record labels killed most of the creativity. You can look at this way. Use an artist to artist comparison. For example, Madonna and Lady Gaga are similar type artists. But is Gaga as good Madonna? Is Great Van Fleet as good as Zeppelin. I love Adele, but is she as good as singer songwriters like Elton John or Billy Joel? Are any of the current pop groups as good as The Cars? Are r and b today like the weekend as good as Earth Wind and Fire? What current heavy metal groups write melodies like Iron Maiden did? What hard rock band today writes hard rock melodies and riffs like Van Halen? There are great singers and outrageous technical players right now, but most of the songs lack character.
I'm a first timer to this song as well! Or at least this version. The Isley Bros did a cover of this I remember. Your music taste is very ecletic Empress! I love it because you keep us on our toes. Never know what we will get from you =)
I love this song so freaking much! I’m 52 years I grew up listening to this song, my daughter is 14 and she knows this song by heart because I play it so much at home.
Empress they used to play the crap out of this song on the radio when it first came out.I like Todd's voice and band .He wrote this song as about his first love in high school..lol ..they ended up being good friends.Great reaction as usual ps..I love your hat! Women need to wear more hats .lol
An all-time favorite song and artist. Keep riding this train!!! Check out I Saw the Light, Just One Victory and It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference for a taste of his versatility.
Look at you, the beautiful country, southern Bell with hip-hop, talk, and a yes, ma’am, Southern accent… delicious you make me wish I was 30 years younger and in your presence❤😂🎉🎈🎉🎊🎆
Great reaction Empress, thank you. Love that you stopped it every time you wanted to say something. I know that I go to reaction channels to hear reactions, I already know lots of these songs so I appreciate that. Classic tune here -- an all-time great. Really refreshing in its creativity. Todd has lots of good ones, I'll try to request one or more in the future.
This is one of my favorites and thank you for playing the album version. Other reaction videos don't play the album version so you lose the ending. But you brought the fullness Empress. Thank you!
It was a great song it was a good song to play when you're on a date that kind of stuff but Todd Rundgren was a great musician you should listen to some of his other stuff when you get a chance
Todd Rundgren is nominated for the 2021 R&R Hall Of Fame for the 3rd year in a row. Let's FINALLY get him in! Search "Rock Hall Fan Vote" and vote with several emails.
RnR HoF is so lame! He should have been in by now. Then again, Hall of Fame is so lame that it’s meaningless so it doesn’t really matter. Hitchcock and Cary Grant never won Oscars either. 🤷🏻♂️
@@frankiebowie6174 I understand how you feel and generally agree with you. However the way I look at it is if Todd's name is up there on the voting site it's good publicity for him. Some may read his bio or check out his music out of curiosity. And if that brings a few more fans on board to appreciate his music that's good enough for me! So I think it's worth voting and will continue to do so. Cheers.
Todd Rundgren is great! Another cool reaction Empress! I love Can we Still be Friends. Great track and always sticks out in my mind particularly from the scene in the Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz movie Vanilla Sky (which I absolutely love btw, very deep, makes you think about choices in life and how you treat people). Also a fantastic cover of Can We Still be Friends was done by Mandy Moore too. Well worth checking out below. First time I'm heard this Empress but I do know of Todd Rundgren, please can I recommend an epic duet he recorded with Bonnie Tyler which also has a great video: Loving you is a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it. Please give that one a listen
Todd also did a version of this with a band called Nazz and he sang back up vocals to a guy in the band named Stewkey and it came out four years earlier and is more of a heartfelt slow dance ballad. Give it a listen and compare.
Hey young person, yes Todd sounds soulful, it was the 70's, everybody was trying to sound soulful, Boz Skaggs, ELO(Electric Light Orchestra), Abba, AWB(Average White Band), they had not only some hard acts to follow, those same acts were still making music, Aretha, Al Green, James Brown, huh they had to bring it in order to compete with artists like that, Todd had to bring it!, and he did, try " I Saw The Light, We Gotta Get You A Woman" and check out the others I mentioned, Boz("Lido Shuffle, Miss Sun), keep it going, enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌
Song from the album "Something Anything". Todd played all the instruments on 75% of this album and also produced it. "Hello it's Me" was played a lot on the radio back in the day. It ranks up high on my favorites list.. I'm glad you reacted to it as it's not often reacted to. Second reaction video I've seen or yours, and have already grown a fondness of you. I find you extremely perceptive and interesting...Keep it up and looking forward for some more...Runningmanz's comment I'd agree with Can We Still be Friends is another good TR song...Try listening the MTV unplugged (1990) version of Hall and Oates "She's Gone" pretty sure you will enjoy it..also an early seventies hit (1973)
I think it's great that you're reacting to "hello it's me" by Todd Rundgren, but you just can't keep shutting off the audio every ten seconds.a song like this is meant to listen to all the way through.
I hope you haven't already Reacted to this but there's another song off the same album called "It wouldn't have made any difference". I think if u do this song u will be one step ahead of the other reactions...then again I never searched for that one so it may be old news...
