Fun fact, when Diane Warren present this song in Céline when she recording her second english album, she didn't know that Patti made this song few years before and she learn only the day she recording the song because she never heard the song before Diane Warren present this song to her. The Céline version was very more successful then the original because the original was only a minor hit while the Céline version was very successful.
Patti shot the video the week she lost her sister of cancer of age of 43 and this is the reason why this video was so emotional.

Of course I heard Ms. Patti’s version first, so I expected Celine to hold that note at the end of the bridge, and she obviously disappointed me because she didn’t. Plus, Ms. Patti builds.

I knew Pattis version forst so it was the standard for me. No shade to Celine- an amazing singer in her own right- but we talking about Patti!! This was more pop than we were used to from Patti- and most mainstream listeners probably slept on it at the time

***PATTI....AND, YES, CELINE...TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...did you ask ME!? (4:44)
....Ah yes, the 'who did it better' debate! ....this CLEARLY was done by Patti FIRST, for her 1989 "Be Yourself" Album (and, the 'Love Theme' to the James Bond flick "License To Kill"); Patti unfortunately went through a LOT of heartache, during the time of it's release......
    - ...She lost her Sister to cancer, and felt guilty for NOT being there for her (Patti stated NUMEROUS times she was tired, and took ONE day for herself...that was the day she lost her).....Patti honored her Sister by wearing BLACK the ENTIRE rum of the Album's release (Fall 1989 - Summer 1990)....
    - ...Patti hit #10 on the R&B charts with her version, and it hit #79 Pop...while Celine's 1992 version hit #4 Pop, and went to #1 AC.....THEN it became a HUGE debate on whether R&B Singers get a fair shake doing 'Pop', while it's easier for 'Pop' Artists to go 'Soul'......

This type of power ballad was different from Patti's usual style, and yet it's probably my favorite song of hers. I actually like it *because* she held back on the "Patti-isms" just a little bit, and let the song speak for itself. I think it has more soul than Celine's version. Of course Celine really belted hers out, but that's just what Celine does...

I really prefer Celine's vocal on this one. Maybe it's the key that Patti is singing it in? It seemed like it was too high, at least verse one. I liked it more as the song progressed.

Probably going to get cancelled for this one. Patty is a master vocalist and so is Celine. I thought Patty would be stronger on this, but I have to give the win to Celine as she really soars with the vocals in her version. This almost felt safe for what we know Patty is capable of delivering.

To be fair, Patti was told to tone down her vocals often in the 80s to be more radio friendly. Plus, Celine wasn't very original. She copied a lot of Patti's phrasing
