Just dropped on Madrid, and on the strength of this video we ignored the centre of town and spent the day around Ibiza and the park ... and Wow what a park! Love your passion for Spanish food James..wonderful presentation..you and Yoli a great team! Have just started to learn about sherrys..its a whole new world!. We are drooling here watching this..Thank you guys!!😀
Went to Spain in 2014 and yet Madrid was the best city in Europe so far, way better than Barcelona...Been to quite a few in the EU, but Madrid es el numero uno. The food was amazing, the people helpful and friendly as no other and the historical parts just out of sight. Best wishes from Arizona y Que Viva Madrid. Will get in touch for next time in La madre patria. Ciao!
Excellent as Always. Visiting in October from HOT Texas. Flying to Madrid, then to Lisbon, followed by cruise to Gibraltar, Malaga, Cartegena, Valencia, Ibiza and Barcelona. Worked in Rota in the Navy. First time back in 18 years. Went to culinary school part time while working. Enjoy cooking, viticulture & eonology, can't wait. Trying various areas in Madrid this time. Spanish grapes making it in Texas wine country after many years.
Always have enjoyed watching your content. Your videos are what first made me explore Spain which I can definitely say is my happy place and am now always looking forward to returning each year! Thank you!
First I have to mention, that I love your enthusiasm in your videos and knowledge of the bars and their history! I will be vising Madrid in May for the first time and was just a bit confused with how tapas work, do you need to get a drink? And the tapas that does come with a drink, is it your choice of tapas?thank you if you can answer!
Entre Caceres y Badajoz is brilliant as tapas goes... but this video was more raciones than it was tapas...tapas are free and raciones you pay... though it is true that we'll still say going out for tapas even if we are getting raciones at the end.
Thanks for this and other excellent videos about tapas. Just returned from Spain and this video got me over to the Retiro area. Thank you for guiding me out of the tourist center. We took a Devour tour in Sevilla as well and had a great time on that. Thanks a million to your generosity sharing these great spots!
You two have such great videos covering so many topics of Spain. Headed to Spain next week and booked Devour Tapas tours in both Barcelona and Madrid. With so many tour companies to choose from, the passion & knowledge in your videos gave me confidence to choose this company. Can’t wait to hit the town!
Thank you for the heads up, I am in love with Casa Toni, the Sweat Breads with the Paprika Salsa (usually served with the Pigs Ears) is my new favourite food!!! My wife and I watched all of your videos for Madrid and found them brilliant and so insightful. Thank you!!!! Ohhhh we are defiantly going back
Just landed on your channel. It's only 5:50 am and you made me feel so hungry already! :0) Congratulations for the fantastic work here. ¡Que aproveche!
This was wonderful to watch. Thank you! I took 3 of your tours in Madrid when I was there and loved them. It's nice to be reminded of that special time in Madrid after coming back to the reality here in Chicago. My favorite spot that left a lasting impression on me was La Bola. I just had the broth but will be back for the stew itself soon!
Thank you for your comment Aimee! And for taking the tours with us - I’m so glad you enjoyed them. You’ll have to come back for the whole cocido at La Bola!!!
.. Fantastic video James and Yolanda! You guys are amazing! Thank you for the heads up and tips and showing us where to go in Madrid. Lookin forward to see Spain next year with my wife and i cant wait to taste spains delicious dishes specially the Snails boil wih pork shins, chorizo and spices, QUE RICO!!! Cheers Mate!! Saluteee!!!
Wow another great show, you are doing a great service to Madrid with these features, it will definitely make people decide to come , visit and enjoy the culinary offerings of this great city.
Just watched this video today and I have been trying to find more info about Cadiz where we are visiting. Looking forward to the fried shrimp you mentioned.
With the current events in my country (USA) I am giving serious thought of moving to Spain. These videos are becoming the tipping point, I'm so hungry now.
I am going to Madrid in September and I can't wait! I think September will be a great time of the year to visit. Your videos are wonderful. Yoli, I want to see a flamenco performance too! Can't visit Spain without seeing flamenco! I am traveling alone and look forward to making new friends and eating lots of tapas and drinking cañas and sherry. Venga!
OMG Guys, only just came across your channel a few days ago and I'm loving it, Spanish food is waaay at the top of my love list and this vid has me drooling, sat at home in the UK (Lancashire) on a drizzly miserable day and you've brought sunshine and warmth in the way of all those fabulous Tapas, not to mention the sherry's and wine. Thanks for a great vid and lots of information!! Happy New Year to you both :)
Awesome video's! You make me wanna pack my suitcase and take the next flight to Madrid!! Spaniards know how to live; we Americans are doing it ALL wrong!! LOL
Hi James, Fantastic videos!! My wife and I are in Spain, arrived yesterday. We are doing this crawl tonight. Will let you know our highlights. Cheers!!
Spain Revealed - James Blick We ended up at La Catapa and La Castela. My wife made a small mistake ordering a full racion of Croquetas de Trufa at La Catapa (She's the Spanish speaker in the family), we had a bunch and gave some away to a nice young couple next to us. They were excellent! We took your advice and had the Garbanzos con Langostine at La Castela. Wow! Truly one of the most flavorful and wonderful dishes I've ever had. We were so full that we didn't make it to the others on your list. Rookie mistake! I am so glad that I stumbled upon your videos before we came to Spain. I am posting up a storm on Facebook and sharing our trip. I will make sure that my friends back in California see your videos. They are all a little bit jealous right now. Cheers!! David
Aeesome! You should head to La Casa Del Abuelo on Calle Victoria. See my gambas recipe video. It’s not in Chueca, but not far walking and they’re the cities’ best. Ask for “extra ajo”!
So glad you went to those two places. They’re fabulous. And those langostinos are amazing. Don’t worry about rookie mistakes - there are no mistakes when you’re in a great bar :) thank you for telling you friends about my channel. I really appreciate that!
LITERALLY YOU KILL ME WITH EVERY VIDEO!!!!!...... HAVING BEEN IN MADRID SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST, LAST TIME WAS 2001 AND NOT BEEN ABLE TO GO FOR THE TIME BEEN IT'S SUCH A REFRESHING SIGHT AND AMAZING LOOK TO THE CITY THAT I ALWAYS DREAM TO VISIT ONE MORE TIME AND YOU WITH YOUR DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF HOW EVERY THING TASTE MAKE IT VERY HARD FOR ME.... BUT HARD IN A GOOD WAY. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS AND COMMENTS.
Hi James, saw you on Ainsley Eats The Streets: Madrid - had to check out your RUclips channel for an upcoming trip in May. Great video and recommendations! We're excited to visit and eat our way through the city.
My wife and I were in Madrid about 7 or 8 years ago but two of our favorite tapas bars were Casa Julio (great croquetas) and Juana La Loca (great frittata).
I'm walking the Camino Norte in May and meeting my wife in Madrid for the last week of June. I really enjoy watching your videos and cannot wait to try some bulls tail! If we see you in a tapas bar I'll buy you uno vino o dos!
Great video, appreciate the tips on where to go, made it easy to figure out how to spend our 1 day in Madrid. We went to Kulto and La Castela and they blew our minds, La Castela especially. A few things.. most places don't serve any food between 4ish and 8, only drinks - this was a surprise to us. Also, we felt very unwelcomed at Taberna Laredo.. they serves pinchos to locals but not us, even after they started serving tapas again. Also, we witnessed the bartenders refilling the bags of biscuits from un-eaten guest plates. La Castela is definitely worth spending a few hours and eating the whole menu. The chickpeas and langostinos was delicious!!!
Glad you had a great time! And yeah Castela is my favorite. That’s a shame about Laredo... places like that don’t usually treat tourists differently. Did you order food with your drinks? Sometimes if you do that they won’t give a free tapa
You've really upped the game here - some of the most beautiful looking and interesting combinations; it's tapa, it's Spanish - but they've used many 'fusion' ingredients! I'm off to Andalusia soon (flying to Malaga and staying in Estepona). I shall seek out tapa when I go! Thanks to you and your wife for the video. Gracias. Tony
James blick saw your videos on Madrid long time ago and really enjoyed my trip based upon your advice. Hope you make more. Also please cover Barcelona.
Thank you for that comment! I'm glad my advice helped! And yes, living in Madrid it's tough to cover other cities. But I've got it planned! I do have a video on my favourite tapas bars in Barcelona - check it out here: ruclips.net/video/IqFHyZn1Kyw/видео.html
Buenisimo amigos. Love the videos. As someone who studies wines and loves spanish wine, im a huge fan of wines of Madrid. Caminos de Navaherros is a great little grenache.
Gracias por la información. Mi esposa y yo vamos a visitar Madrid pronto.
James, I can't thank you and Yolanda enough for your recommendations! I had a chance to go to La Castela and we had the Garbanzos salteados con langostinos, and also Arroz meloso con Pulpo y Calamar. Both dishes were insanely tasty and were a culinary highlight for us on our Madrid visit. I am so grateful for this video as I would have missed out on La Castela entirely. You were both right about the chickpea dish! Sending you guys a big hug and well wishes from NYC!
Thanks James! I took my gf to Taberna Laredo -we loved it! (The dishes you recommended were not on a menu, perhaps they were seasonal). One thing that would help is writing the names of the dishes in Spanish in your videos. Keep it up guys, we’re thankful for your scouting work!
You have some great advice, James and Yoly, and Casa Lucas really delivered great croquetas. Unfortunately, I felt ripped off at La Casa de Abuelo. But your videos are the best thing I've run across in my extensive research on our trip to Spain, where we are on a journey to get married in Frigiliana on Tuesday.
Holy moly!!! Those Tapas!! ,my idea of Tapas was bread with different toppings, that Venison, and the Bulls tail with the mash, and the Prawns,i can't bloody wait to get there in September now.
Thanks James! Great work!! I am watching your videos religiously for my upcoming trip to Barcelona and Madrid. Are there any traditional music/dance spots you would like to recommend? Maybe that can be your next list :)
Even as a non-meat eater, these all look fantastic. Do you happen to have any recommendations for tapas bars or restaurants in Madrid with vegetarian-friendly options? Thank you for making these videos.
Wow - excellent tapas! I've only been to Madrid once but I was struck by how all the offices close in the afternoon and everyone goes off to eat. I thought being the capital things might be a bit more 'sandwich at the desk', but no - it's all very civilized!
Fun video; my wife and I also watched the video of ordering in a bar. We might visit again Madrid in October of 2019 and visit your Tapas Bar Recommendations.
Hi James, great videos! I’m travelling to madrid with my wife for our honeymoon. Have you get a list of eats we can go to in a 4/5 day trip please? Any info would be great. Cheers James
Hello! On your tours we don't go to these particular tapas bars. But you'll go to fantastic ones and learn all about tapas. Of course, you can also visit these bars on your own.
Love this so much! We live within walking distance from this area, so I think we might have to recreate this tapas crawl. Our favorite tapas bar in Madrid is pretty impossible to choose (so many great spots), but we do love El Rincón de Jaén c/Don Ramón de la Cruz. Had to go with an Andalusian spot even if we are in the capital ;)
hola yo voy a visitar el aria de Chamartin, C. Luis Vives, Chamartín, 28002 Madrid, Spain, any recomendations for good places to eat Tapas or Paella in that area etc? i remember when i lived there in the 1980s, there was a Restaurant that Served Horse meat as well. Thanks
Hi Jim! Thanks for watching! Not far at all. Couple of Metro stops or a walk through the Retiro park. There's info in the RUclips description about how to get there. Enjoy - let us know how you get on!
hey mate, an aussie here, I am off to madrid and spain in 3 weeks. Just was wondering, do the menus have the meals written in english as well as spanish cos if they dont it will make it bloody hard to know what one is ordering
Hi James, thank you for the nice tour! We are visiting Madrid in a couple of weeks and your videos are super helpful! I want to eat at La Catapa sometime during our stay. Can you tell us what those dishes are called in Spanish so we can see the menu and know which one they are? I found a blurry menu online and I think I know the first two, but having hard time finding “Fresh Stingray in escabeche” on their menu! I really want to try that. Thank you so much in advance!
Hi Linda! Thanks for your message. I believe the stingray (raya) was a special that day - so not on the normal menu. But I'm sure you'll have a delicious time there. The other dishes were croquetas and also the ceviche (which will be written as ceviche on the menu). I hope you have a great trip. I'd love to hear how it goes!
You could say, ¿Qué vino marida bien con este plato?. The word for pairing is "maridaje", and so that is where that verb "marida" comes from. Though you'll find in many simpler bars that you won't get a particularly complex answer - but I'm sure they'll steer you in the right direction. Enjoy!
First, hola Yoli! James, tapas, Angel’s drooling! By the way, I agree with you on Sherry. Amontillado is amazing, nutty on the finish, thank you for the recommendation. Any ideas for the Southern Spain area, Seville, Huelva, Málaga vicinity? I can’t wait to visit la Frontera de Jerez.
Hola Angel! Welcome back! And Yoly says hi! Lots of ideas for southern Spain - Google "gastro guide Seville" and "gastro guide Cadiz" and check out my partner in Devour Tours' blog (called Spanish Sabores). She has a great food guide to each city!
When ever I am in M a like to travel outside M as well, for example Alcala de Hanares, history and day to day life in contrast to for example Toledo. Perhaps you would like to turn towards those great outskirts of M? Love the channel btw!
Hi, any tapas bar recommendations for the Chamberi neighbourhood? My wife & I are visiting next month, 3rd time in Madrid, 1st time staying in Chamberi (after, heading off to Segovia & then Avila, staying in each for a couple of nights).

Awesome, thanks Jose Antonio!
Just dropped on Madrid, and on the strength of this video we ignored the centre of town and spent the day around Ibiza and the park ... and Wow what a park! We then punched weight at Kulto, with some sort of amazing Oxtail stew dish ... with an amazing cocktail to boot. 2nd visit was to La Monteria for cheap but great red wine. The tiny Chocolate donoughts were top draw. Many thanks buddy ... you made our day with your recommendations! Nuns and cookies tomorrow ...
Awesome - so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the message!
80 Grados... by far my favorite Tapas bar.
Of all the videos you've made so far, this is my favourite one ;) Great casting!

Went to Spain in 2014 and yet Madrid was the best city in Europe so far, way better than Barcelona...Been to quite a few in the EU, but Madrid es el numero uno.

Bay scallops as appetizer and bull tail as main is a dream meal !! Disfruta que tus vídeos nos encantan !

All of that wonderful food. Wow.

Been hanging on memories during lockdown, keeping in touch via your channel, I’m back in Spain on 23rd, first time to Madrid, and can’t wait.
In Madrid on our honeymoon, doing this route today! Looks amazing.
Enjoy it!!!! You might find a few places closed because it’s August. But enjoy what is ole!
I mean, enjoy what is open!
First I have to mention, that I love your enthusiasm in your videos and knowledge of the bars and their history! The mini shrimp dish looked so good. I will keep that one in mind for when going to Madrid.

My wife and I watched all of your videos for Madrid and found them brilliant and so insightful. Thank you!!!! Ohhhh we are defiantly going back
Yes! Their salsa brava is fab. Made in house while so many places just do dodgy combos of ketchup and tobacco etc
Just landed on your channel. It's only 5:50 am and you made me feel so hungry already! :0) Congratulations for the fantastic work here. ¡Que aproveche!

We're traveling to Madrid this summer! Great find!
Have an amazing time!
Haha exciting!!
Im finally here and about to hit a bunch of spots you recommend.
Enjoy!!! Let me know how you get on!!
One of my favorites is perretxico on Rafael Calvo. I miss it so much. I lived above it for several months.
Increíble el video!!
Y más gracias!
Thanks James! Great work!! I am watching your videos religiously for my upcoming trip to Barcelona and Madrid. Are there any traditional music/dance spots you would like to recommend? Maybe that can be your next list :)
Great advise for Tapas hunting!
Great video just found out we stopping in Madrid on the way home for 2 nights Saturday the 8th June after leaving javea
Have a great time!
We certainly know how to eat in this city! Thanks for watching :)
Love those food you introduced
Thanks for watching!!
Fun video; my wife and I also watched the video of ordering in a bar. We might visit again Madrid in October of 2019 and visit your Tapas Bar
Recommendations.
Awesome - glad you found them helpful!
You should try:Los Gatos o La Dolores in Huertas or revoltosa in calle Del Prado,a good one
I am going to do that next week.
Enjoy!
Thanks Jolanda and James, this was awesome! Too bad, KultO was closed over easter. These places are terrific.
Thanks for your message! Glad you enjoyed the bars. KultO next time!
Hi James ! (Hola Jaime!) , LOL . Vas a flipar!! Great job , tu y Yoli. Gracias.
OK!!!!
Going to Madrid on April 15th, second time. Any suggestions on Tapa bars close to Palace Hotel
Yes! Hit up Taberna Los Gatos and Cervecería Cervantes (in that order!)
Hi James, great videos! I’m travelling to madrid with my wife for our honeymoon.
Have you get a list of eats we can go to in a 4/5 day trip please?
Any info would be great.
Cheers
James
Another great vid!
Looks delicious! - Laura
Very delicious! Can’t wait to take you to these tapas bars Laura! It’s going to be so much fun!!!
I agree with that about artichokes you said, James :D
If I book one of your tours how do I ensure to replicate this experience?
I have been to El Eincón de Jaén once, and loved it must go back. When you do this route, let me know your favourite spot!
You should also try comunitat valenciana food, James ;)
Love it there!
Please make videos on northern Spain like Asturias and Galicia
Will do! Need to find time to get up there and make a video or two!
hola yo voy a visitar el aria de Chamartin, C. Luis Vives, Chamartín, 28002 Madrid, Spain, any recomendations for good places to eat Tapas or Paella in that area etc? i remember when i lived there in the 1980s, there was a Restaurant that Served Horse meat as well. Thanks
Great video. Any recomendation for tapas in the Chamberi neighborhood?
I'm afraid I don't Arturo - it's next on my list :)
@@spainrevealed what about Salamanca?
Great video guys mouth was watering my simple question is the area Ibiza is this a distance from the city center?
Hi Jim! Thanks for watching! Not far at all. Couple of Metro stops or a walk through the Retiro park. There's info in the RUclips description about how to get there. Enjoy - let us know how you get on!
hi there, watched many of your vlogs....have you done any in Ibiza, ibiza town for example?
hey mate, an aussie here, I am off to madrid and spain in 3 weeks.
Thank you so much James! We are very excited to visit Madrid!
Anytime!
Spain Revealed - James Blick .
How would you ask for recommendations for drink pairings with the tapas?
You could say, ¿Qué vino marida bien con este plato?. The word for pairing is "maridaje", and so that is where that verb "marida" comes from. Though you'll find in many simpler bars that you won't get a particularly complex answer - but I'm sure they'll steer you in the right direction. Enjoy!
Great video, I see that you are putting the prices for each dish, are these raciones instead of tapas that you are paying on top of your drinks?
My favorite place in Madrid is "Meson del Champinon" just outside Plaza Major el Arco.
Affected cuisine... charming
We're planning a Toledo day trip video soon!!! Thank you!
Hi, any tapas bar recommendations for the Chamberi neighbourhood? My wife & I are visiting next month, 3rd time in Madrid, 1st time staying in Chamberi (after, heading off to Segovia & then Avila, staying in each for a couple of nights).
