Best episode in the series. The tension the pending duel creates. The drinking with the enemy bar scene. Gene not dealing with rejection well, and Melfina still discovering her own emotions. And the fact the Leilong could have merced the whole crew, but faked his own death to retire from the Onten. Magnificent.
@asian dude Everyone in this thread felt the same way i did. It was because Gene wasn't suppose to win. The guy lost on purpose. He had better weapons than Gene and he could fight better than Gene. This battle Gene actually didn't win. Lei Long let Gene think he won. It's a ton of elements to this fight that made it memorable.
@asian dude The guy single handedly took out Gene's whole crew. That's not an easy task. I'm not sure what else you want me to say about this episode.lol
Outlaw Star is vastly underrated. This anime deserves awards for its cleverness, creativity, and just how much fun it was to watch and experience among other things. I'm happy that many people aren't aware of this show. It's just one of those hidden gems that only a select few lucky/tasteful people know about.
I love how Lei Long shimi faked his death here. He wanted out of the Onten Seven and pretended his gun misfired and "died" in front of them haha. What a badass. Skill and an arsenal of weapons makes him a capable fighter.
Likely because Hazanko and the Anten Seven does not allowed any retirements unless they all discussed and made a mutual agreement. Likely Lei Long request a resignation but Hazanko denied it do they still search for the Galactic Leyline. Take that if Lei Long just quit all of a sudden, the 108 Stars and the Anten Seven would hunt him down until either to take him back or to kill him right on the spot. As Lei Long falsify his death, the pirates will not even think much to search for someone that was consider to be dead. Makes me wonder what kind of retirement Lei Long have.
Arguably my favorite fight of the entire series. Shimi was a one-man army. Remember getting up late at night and watching this on Toonami's midnight run. Incredible anime and extremely underrated when compared to others.
Not quite. Hazanko is far more powerful and the Emperor of the Kei Pirates is said to be in another league entirely. Shimi however is the undisputed strongest of the Anten Seven, which considering their ranks include a werewolf MMA fighter, a humanoid tornado, and a scarecrow master samurai, a guy whose just really good with weapons says a lot.
The thing is Ron Mcdoogle seemed to carry a lot more caster shells than gene, and gene was always contemplating if he really needed to use his shells in every situation
Gene’s luck was otherworldly! Most of the people /things he fought was much stronger than he was but he found a way to win either thru his wits, luck, grit, caster shells or his friends! Yes I know he was injured here but still this man was a beast, easily took down Sazuka and Aisha!
@@thefanwithoutaface8105 Nah, Suzuka won that fight without much of a problem on her part. She allowed herself to be hurt to experience the pain that her friends and family did at Hitoriga's hands. She would have been practically unscathed otherwise.

Cause he doesn’t want to kill him. He fakes his death to get out of the pirates guild and let Gene and the crew live. The duel is just a setup to his faking it. He could have easily won.
Gene actually won this fight surprisingly quickly. Most other characters in the series like Ron, for example, would've pulled the trigger at 1:27 and that would've been the end of it. Gene only struggled because...he's a good guy.
@@outlawkai Well that and Gene isn't some wet behind the ears slouch, he's a legit good bounty hunter and gun fighter, his morality just has a tendency to bite him in the ass a lot.

Suzuka does seem like a more skilled fighter. I imagine how easily she fell surprised a lot of viewers until they learned that Aisha's nasty stew did a number on her insides!

Take Leilong faking his death very complicated just so the Anten 7 wouldn't be suspicious. And I take Leilong didn't request Lord Hazonko for a retirement mainly because Hazonko already assigned and committed to find the galactic layline and Melfina already been found which makes a retirement out of the question until the Leyland is found. As I take it's very likely if Leilong turns away and leave without Hazanko's permission or permission from the Tendo King, the pirates of the 117 Star Systems and the Anten 7 themselves will hunt Leilong all over the galaxy and execute him for desertion. As faking his own death from combat just made Lord Hazanko and the Anten 7 believe Leilong dies like a warrior and will not bother or even care to search for someone that's considered dead and see as nothing but a casualty.
Yes, kind of. There's an art book called SW that's been translated into English on lasagne.moe That book describes Bandai's plans for a second season of Outlaw Star which features Shimi. Another approach to a sequel is the Sword of Wind OVA plan by the manga creator, Takehiko Ito. Without making this comment too long, I don't think it's as good as the season two idea.
