Yes but he had the knowledge on how to work it. An expert battlefield tactician and a master of transpositional thinking, Gene has not only done this before but pondered combat deeply
Nathaniel Johnson that’s because unlike most protagonists in anime nowadays, he’s actually street smart instead of below average/average/stupid/idiotic beyond all logical reasoning. Older shows and manga had a tendency to have more trickster heroes with vibrant personalities than the parade of idiot heroes with few exceptions we have nowadays.
@@animefan77 very well said. A lot of it becomes predictable when you see a protagonists first interaction with women. Fortunately for us, Gene’s first scenes both showed his romantic prowess and combat skills creating high intrigue with his effectiveness in both areas.
Technically Outlaw Star has already been remastered twice. In 2006 when a much cleaner DVD (like the Blu-ray but at standard definition) was released in Japan, and also the Blu-ray, originally released in 2014. It's also been available for purchase on sites such as Amazon in the USA and UK for quite some time.
The thing I loved about outlaw star was that Gene always had to work his ass off to win fights.

this was his best fight in the series I thought - no casters - just patience, wit, craftiness, some gadgets and his classic sarcasm lol.

The action scenes in OS were the best when they did occur.
They all exploded. Happy?
This needs to be remade. Or at least re-released, or re-mastered.
