Thanks for watching everyone! I spent a lot of time and effort on this video, and it's one of my favorite videos I've ever made! Outlaw Star is such a classic and I hope this video either inspires you to watch it, or even rewatch it!
Im still made that Outlaw Star only got one season. Also, Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo was my first crush, and I remember sneaking down stairs at 6am just to watch the show on tv.
Outlaw Star is one of the best sci fi anime of all time due to its characters and setting. Seeing the character designs are works of art… yes ff vii is a good game along with toonami and without toonami I wouldn’t been an anime fan. I enjoyed this video I cannot wait to see more anime related videos soon. Anyways outlaw star reminds me of firefly (people don’t hang me please) all of those nice scenes and atmosphere is all thanks to cell shaded animation if wanted to know.
Thanks for making this. I just recently got back into Outlaw Star. I remember digging this as a kid but was more in awe of Cowboy Bebop at the time because it was more adult and mature. Funny enough now I’m 32 and I find myself rewatching Outlaw Star more than Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. It has that underdog vibe, some of the best atmosphere and mood, lots of fun, a sense of optimism, and can be just as thought provoking and mature as Cowboy Bebop when it wanted to be. The ultimate cult classic anime named after it’s spaceship with a great cast of characters and amazing soundtrack which sounds awfully similar to the most popular similar anime classic lol
Thanks for watching it! Yeah I’ve for sure watched this more than Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. It’s hard to put into words sometimes, but this really is a special show. People also think that OS copied Bebop, but they’re two completely different tones and OS came out before it lmao glad you’re rewatching it!
@@Soldier1stClass was just watching my old blu ray and they include a 'pilot episode" which is basically 5 minutes long but sets up the mood and tone of the show and that was produced all the way back in 1996! So you're correct, OS came out before way before not even counting the manga! Glad to see Outlaw come out of Cowboy Bebop's shadow in the last few years. It's finally slowly getting the recognition it deserved decades ago.
@@berserk4souls yeah I’ve always loved both but OS gets the edge for me. It’s just a really fun show but still knows when to employ its themes and antics.
When I was a kid in the early 2000s I first watched Outlaw Star on a cable channel called M-Net. It was this Kino's Journey, Haruhi Suzumiya's Brigade, Patlabor, Eureka Seven, My-HiME, Kids on the Slope, K-On!, and Escaflowne
Leylines? Magical guns? Space western aesthetic? You know what else came out around this time with similar themes? Wild Arms. Even the art direction in the openings have a very Outlaw Star vibe to it. If you like Outlaw Star/Cowboy Bebop I highly recommend the Wild Arms series. At least 2, 3, and 5. One is rough af so I would recommend the Remake Alter Code F and I never played 4, but I hear 5 is just objectively better combat wise and the atmosphere of 4 is way off "model" for Wild Arms. This era of anime was certainly something else.
Great video! This is one of my top 5 favorite classic anime. I was lucky enough to have seen in on DVD for my first time as I was buying them for my collection, so I didn't know about all the edits there were. You are right, Fred is awesome and I don't care who says what about it! As a table top roleplayer, I have had friends roleplay as Aisha and Susuka and I am about to roleplay as Gene Starwind this summer, caster gun and all. There is no other anime that has inspired my group of friends more than Outlaw Star.
That’s awesome!! It would be cool as hell to role play in table top as them. We used to play a Star Wars D20 game, and it would be really cool to do a Gene build.
Great coverage of this incredible show. I loved the meta messaging in this series. I almost named my cat after Aisha but she wasn't whiny enough and very playful so I went with Ryo-Ohki. I always saw the scene of Melfina holding Gene with the wings as a sign of finally hitting that level of maturity they were both working towards. In regards to censorship, I'm surprised you didn't talk about the tip toeing Cartoon Network did back in the day in regards to Hamushi. I use her death as an example of what we got away with in that generation lol.
Great name for a cat! Tenchi Muyo is another great anime! The Hamushi thing honestly felt like a non issue since Rocko’s Modern Life showed limbs exploding all the time lmao so I guess stuff like that doesn’t stick out to me as much. Thanks for watching btw!
What’s funny is, I didn’t realize how graphic that show was until I watched the very first episode a few months back and there was literally someone’s arms exploding with a bone sticking out. I couldn’t believe that shit lmao
Late nights in my parents basement watching this, Yu Yu Hakusho, Tenchi Muyo, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Lupin the Third, NGE and so many more are peak nostalgia for me.* (*that’s not a green light to butcher them Netflix, leave my nostalgia alone)
Wow, I had watched this so long time ago that I had forgotten about it. Too be honest, it gotten over shadowed by other better anime released around that time and the manga also run for 3 volume. I do like it as it have great space fights but some of the story feel not so new during then I guess. For those interested, there is a spin off from the same universe as Outlaw Star called Angel Links, 星方天使エンジェルリンクス.
Yeah it’s funny that it came before all the others because people tend to have this idea that Outlaw Star ripped off of Trigun and Bebop, but in reality, that’s not the case at all
@Soldier1stClass yeah. Although they all seem very similar but I don't really find them all the same. I do enjoy each on its own but the story for outlaw star isn't that good in my opinion. It's still a nice anime to watch but isn't one that have a lasting impression on me like Eva or Tenchi muyo which I enjoy for it's lore.
Great video dude! I tried watching this after Cowboy Bebop but it was so different and definitely didn’t rescratch that itch, so I kinda gave up on it.
@@Soldier1stClass Thanks to your video telling me the entire plot, characters, and their developments; I no longer need to watch it. MWAAHAHAHAHAHHAAAA! THIS IS ALL YOUR DOING!
Even straight guys love dudes like Fred lol. A guy that constantly gives you compliments and money? You don't have to kiss him or anything! It's not ghay lol. Why not use that to your benefit?!?! Just sayin lol

This is an amazing video to the point I think you should expand to anime series that you like and enjoy.
Thank you!
Let's go!!
Ya, I might have to rewatch.... Suddenly wanna go back for some nostalgia, either gonna be OS, tenchi, or el hazard....
My votes for Outlaw Star! But Tenchi is also fantastic!
Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Big-O was my introduction to anime. I quickly also fell in love with Sailor Moon 😊
Yeah Toonami was one of the best inventions ever lmao

This one was for sure a labor of love
Do you want an anime that mixes fantasy, sci-fi and Treasure Island / Treasure Planet? Then #OutlawStar is for you!!

And another one called Fantastic Children
I have only one thing to say: I have the box set. That is all. 😘
Nice! I need to grab it sometime. It’s on Amazon
Legend has it that the McDougal Brothers are still out there…leaving not so well thought out comments at the expense of content creators
Yes, legend does have it…
Seriously everything you exposed in the early minutes is exactly how i lived in my early years. Great video
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
i was thinking of rewatching this show lately & this video confirms that I have to rewatch it again
Yes! Glad I could help! Lmao

Yeah it definitely was. I’ll have to check those out. I’ve always heard good things about the wild arms series
Bro i loved this Show on Toonami
It's so much better uncensored. I didn't realize how many differences there were. It's on Hulu uncensored!

I’ve been meaning to give this show another shot!
It's so good! And it's uncensored if you have Hulu!
Damn bro you put in work on this one.

It’s such a fantastic show. Totally agree with you!
I swear on everything, i saw ep23 on Toonami. Just heavily sensored.

It's better than Cowboy Bebop. There, saved you a half hour. Just go watch it.
