==========================
A new world of drive.
Riverside is the culmination of a thorough analysis of numerous analog and vacuum tube circuits. Our goal? To deliver a new world of harmonically rich, incredibly versatile, tube-inspired drive sounds. We didn't want to build just another distortion or overdrive. We knew we must examine what has been done, and bring a new approach to the world of drive sounds.
Discover your amp's potential.
Riverside's cascading gain stages create harmonically rich tones that are immensely musical and natural-from silky clean overdrive to colossal distortion, and all points between. Our analog JFET front-end ensures that Riverside responds to your guitar with uncompromised dynamics and feel. The precision crafted DSP generates dynamic complexity and pleasing harmonics at every stage, letting your amp shine at any gain level. Riverside takes your amp to places you never knew it could go.
Infinite sweet spot.
Riverside's continuously variable circuit tuning dynamically tweaks multiple parameters under the hood so that the sweet spot follows you at any gain setting. As you turn the Drive knob, Riverside makes continuous adjustments, tuning the circuit for optimum tone. This results in an incredibly versatile drive pedal that is equally capable of providing sparking cleans, mild overdrives, high-gain leads, and heavy saturated distortions.
Flexibility to adapt to any amp.
Your amp choice has a large influence on the sound of any drive pedal connected to it. Riverside's musical 3-band EQ, with independent Bass, Middle and Treble knobs, is designed to complement your amp's tone with the flexibility needed to dial in your sound effectively and efficiently. The three-position Presence switch tailors the highest frequencies, allowing Riverside to integrate perfectly with any amp or setup, no matter how dark or bright.
Digital or analog? We chose both.
The first stage of Riverside’s custom multistage drive topology is an all-analog, ultra low noise, discrete, class-A JFET circuit. This gain stage is digitally controlled to maximize headroom while adding as much as 20dB of pure analog gain, with tight integration to the subsequent DSP gain stages. With our hybrid approach you get the best of both analog and digital worlds: The JFET stage provides exceptional touch sensitivity and dynamic interaction with your guitar, while the incredibly powerful SHARC DSP facilitates the great level of detailed complexity and responsiveness you'll want to hear. I bought a Riverside today and Oh Lord is it the greatest sounding overdrive I have ever played. This is the benchmark for truly transparent drive. I have expanded my custom princeton reverb to the point where I don't miss the mini Jubilee anymore. Last overdrive I will get.
Thank you so much!!
Came here to say this. I got mine today and it immediately made me forget about all my other drive pedals. Well worth the price.
Still the last overdrive you've got?
@Roberto Parisi Yes! Even though the honeymoon period is long over I still haven't taken it off my board.
Strymon, you should do all in one , 'boost - amp - drive - distortion - fuzz' pedal with Midi. I'll put my money on it.
When strymon publishes a new effect you can be sure this is allways one of the best products in the industry. And they know how to demo a product.
Well done, as always. Will definitely want to take one of these for a spin
Thank you!
Very versatile pedal and great demo. I have to go try one out. Thanks.
The bass control sounds more like cabinet thump from a 4x12. Neat!
Ben Asar
Now that my dreams have been realized, I now hope my prays can be answered by affording it! Great job strymon!
Sounds amazing!
Top-notch! Love the sound at 12:15 , best for 60s and 70s Prog-Rock stuff! Must buy it, i can hardly wait! :-)
Thank you Peter for another excellent demo. I was specifically interested in dynamics and pick attack. Also I have found with some amps you need to zero the bass and the treble and keep the mids or you get too much mush! Watching Timeline demo helped me buy won rather than the Dig which I did not like the user interface! Look forward to trying the Riverside when it arrives in Thailand!
Amazing. I love all of my strymon stuff. I can't wait to get my hands on this, and to try it on on my multiple amps
Thank you. Looking forward to when you get to try it out!
this piece of gear sounds astoundingly good. I really think what you did with the analogue and digital dsp circuitry is really pushing technology to the limits
When will they come available
Sounds great! planing on getting it.
Hope there will be reviews pretty soon!
We have had a couple review units go out, so there should be some very soon. Joe King did a really nice video when he got his Riverside here > ruclips.net/video/DBE-xS2HtyM/видео.html
This looks amazing!
I got a Riverside unit last week and gave it a few good runs over the past few days and it's a winner: very rich and organic sounding with nice clarity as well as versatility and flexibility. Loving it. My two other OD pedals are the Ibanez HW TS808 and the Wampler Euphoria (along with the Xotic RC Booster V2) and the Riverside complements them really well. In the high-gain mode it's a great distortion pedal, which is not all that easy to find.
I've only tried it through the clean channel of my Friedman BE100 but will soon see how it works with the OD channel. It'd also be good to see a demo of how this pedal does with cranked Marshall type amps. I primarily use the HW TS808 with the amp's OD channel to give it more "hair" and cut and am curious to check out how the Riverside does in that realm.
Thanks so much for sharing that with us. That's great to hear. If you post any videos please let us know. I'll pass along your suggestion to our demo person :) We are definitely going to be making more demos. Thanks!
There were a few lovely 'sweet spots' in every setting, the kind that reminds you of when you hear a top pro playing and say to yourself 'how does he get that tone?" I know the pedal isn't cheap, but there's obviously a lot of technology, a lot of expertise and a lot of 'heart' gone into it. This demo will obviously cost me money, but I'm quite happy about that!
Thank you for such a kind comment. This is so nice to receive :)
What is wrong with people? How could ANYONE thumbs down this innovative product?????
Easily, this isn’t very useful for lead guitar. From what I heard it’s all rhythm and no solo guitar tones
@@CraigularjJoeWoodworks what is a good one for solo tones?
Nice work!
Strymon, you're killing me! You folks continue to do amazing work. I'm hoping to get my views up on my channel so I too - one day - can afford your entire line. Great work.
Nice Demo Walter, Saul will be proud of you
I love this guys terminology when describing this pedal that alone makes me want one a thinking mans overdrive for someone who can't think very well if you know what I mean
Probably the best gain box I've heard demo'd.... I've bought and returned a dozen boxes and after not liking anything decided to just stick with my tube amp gain but, may buy this box.
Thanks :) Please share with us if you end up getting Riverside.
I own one, paired it with a deco and it just sounds incredible. Just realised you need another pedal to 'unlock' a 6db boost so I'll have to look into that. So many different sounds in one overdrive.
The pedals both sound incredible, I don't regret spending what I did on them, they will stay with me till I can't physically play anymore.
Why? It sounds like a Boss DS1. Just buy a couple of Boss DS1 and you'll save 200 bucks on top of it.
@@mike1967sam Yeah, um...no.
@@mike1967sam no way dude
I love that modern sound.
Great sound is great sound. Digital, analog or .... hybrid. This sounds great.
Oh, for crying out loud I love Strymon! Damage Control LIVES AGAIN!!!
Completely awesome, want
Strymon, a melhor marca de pedais e fontes!
This pedal with my Mesa California Tweed is glorious! A really good match.
Sir, i love Your demos and this is no exception :-) I just wish it had MIDI to work with BigSky and TimeLine :-(
I’m very seriously considering buying one of these. It seems like one of those pedals that makes it very difficult to find a sound that isn’t incredibly usable. The price is a little bit steep but from what I’m seeing, it seems pretty well justified.
Thanks Kyle. If you have any questions about Riverside please just let us know at support@strymon.net
with the EV5 and the boost pedal you can get about 9 sounds and you can even set it up as a volume pedal or even a wah wah, it's mental, or you can blend between your 4 saved sounds for near limitless gain combinations or add gain as the note fades.
I own 5 different Strymon pedals. Every one of them is excellent, and among the best pedals I own. If you have the money, get a Strymon! You can’t lose.
just ordered mine up. i love strymon. blue sky is a joy the more i use. i cant wait to plug this into my OR 100 clean. hehe :)
Hi Scott, Love hearing that you are enjoying your blueSky and can't wait to hear when you get your Riverside. Please share with us if you post any videos :)
That’s why that’s a perfect amp. I’ll never part with it, after all the ones that came before and just weren’t quite right. I hope I can get a Riverside someday, saving my pennies!
IMO this is the best sounding overdrive/distortion on the market.
Thank you!
FINALLY picked up mine yesterday, merry Christmas indeed.. its only been a couple days but this is the last link in my chain.. now im thinking the custom 22 watt Purdy from those amazing fellas from edmonton.. seriously. i dont need my OR 100 for gain anymore. . and i like cornflakes. lol
Awesome pedal.
have have mine for a week now.. first thing I stopped needing was my Maxon 808. i got the boost switch and this is also my departure from dual channel amps.. thankyou strymon. thankyou thankyou thankyou. . my chain is now tuner, riverside, mxr delay and phase, blue sky. soo very complete :) yes i have vid software now!! examples to link soon.. just wanted to say thanks .. and igot mine on christmas eve :)
Look forward to seeing your clips :) Thanks for the kind words!
4:04 LOVE the overdub!!!!
This pedal is sick for hardcore music. Best you can get.
50% of my pedalboard is Strymon, it wasn't intentional it just happened that way. Timeline, Mobius, Flint and Riverside, all powered by Zuma. Really great quality products!
Love the rich saturation in HG...I was aiming for the Boiling Point... Now Riverside's in the mix.
Heisenberg!
Are you alive? :O
I like it!!
Pete needs to wear a white lab coat with beakers and Bunsen burners cooking.
I hope you send one to Dan and Mick from (That Pedal Show) I believe after they review it.....you won't be able to keep up production ! as always Strymon....another award winning, wallet emptying product.and ya of course.....I want one too!
TPS !
I agree. I think Dan would lose his mind.
Robert Carper people really buy after Mick and Dan review them? Or should I say play them and explain what they do... sometimes they have absolutely no clue what a pedal does... I love their show, for fun, but man, I feel sorry for people that buy pedals because it's on that show... they are kind of clowns... although Dan is a very knowledgeable clown
Two of the biggest idiot clowns on the webz..wouldn't buy crap that those two morons recommend..
Larry Bird Lol neurotic much? To consider Dan the biggest moron on the internet is pretty.. well.. moronic.
Wow! This thing sounds really good with the Roland amp in this demo!
Damn this guitar is really beautiful
Awesome. Want.
I’ve tried this and a bogner lagrange and like the sound and feel of the bogner better in a band setting.
SOLD! \m/
I don't know man! I sounds pretty good! I don't think Strymon is trying to trick you with these sounds! This is probably what it actually sounds like! I bet it's hard to get a bad sound out of it! I keep putting exclamation points at the end of my sentences just to annoy you! Good night!
This is a must have pedal if you run passive himbuckers in Gibsons You get that overloaded 70s tone down to the nail. Huge variants in sound you can dail in anything
Also killer with a strat and a univibe
Second Strymon pedal I bought I will be buying more in the future worth every damnpenny I paid and then some
Thank you so much for this kind comment! Makes our day to read it :)
You so smart Pete👨🎓👨🔬‼️
Can we get a demo of the Riverside into the cabinet filter of the Big Sky and hear the direct tones? Would love to see how the two work together as a direct-in solution. Would be especially cool to see pedal used in context, perhaps in a live setting, with other instruments and utilize the 6db solo boost and the fav switch to switch from cleaner sounds to higher gain.
Jake Stewart Music n
We will definitely be making more demos, I will pass this suggestion to the team for demo consideration! Thanks :)
Thanks so much!
Easy to buy it and then he'll see..mmmm or hear how it sounds...no? :)
Jeff, there is a reason they do demos in the first place. Maybe you have money growing out of your ears, but buying a 300 dollar pedal and *then* you get to *find out*hat it sounds like? No, this guy is probably looking to hear the direct tones because he records direct often, and he would like to know what this pedal sounds like in this application BEFORE he commits to buying it.
Been waiting a long time for Strymon to step into the OD realm. My only slight apprehension is that they'll release a larger form factor like the big sky, timeline, möbius which will have so much more options and I'll be annoyed if went with the smaller one.
Peter Danner completely agree. I want to wait until they have the larger version with a million options. I hope they're working on it!
MIDI support and patch storage would be very nice...
@@techguy1230 - Both Riverside AND Sunset have MIDI support and 300 savable presets.
Is this the alternate version of Breaking Bad? The one where Walter White decides to build amazing guitar pedals instead of cooking meth?
Lol, He's still the danger!
Yeah! And instead of cancer, this guy has an aggressive form of gear acquisition syndrome(G.A.S.)
Explains the prices
When you choose physics instead of chemistry!
Idiots !
Strymon incursionando en el mundo de los overdrive
Please do a demo with synth lead sounds. Thnx.
Sounds just as good as many other high end pedals, if it would have had MIDI control it would have been killer. Now it's just one of the many good overdrive pedals.
I haven’t known Heisenberg‘s doin Pedal rewiews🤔
Beautiful sounds totally working musicians gear! 299.00 a lot for regular joes and Jane's.
Complimenti strymon pedal overdrive superbo
Hey folks from Strymon, I've just ordered this pedal and am curious to know if it's possible to get the "brown-sound" tone from this. Thanks.
+Do Hwan Kim - With the Riverside, we did not aim to provide a particular type of sound, like Van Halen's "Brown Sound", however, it can provide you a very wide range of high gain sounds that some could consider to sound like the "Brown Sound."
pedal isn't engaged at 12:15?
Nice demo by Walter White, dude can cook awesome tones! Great pedal too.
What pickups do you have in the agile? Also the pedal sounds great as always!
Hi :) The Agile has a Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck, and a GFS Fat Pat in the bridge.
I wasn't really feeling it in the lower gain stages (I think it may have been the settings though. sounded a bit too flat for me) but once it was pushed a little farther I think it got a lot better. I don't plan on getting one, but it looks like a cool pedal.
Hi Jacob! are you the Hartman from the Hartman fx pedals builder?
jeff wackenthal No, that just happens to be my last name.
oh Ok! Thx!
also.. about price 405 canadian for my reverb and same for the riverside. for the quaility and durability i think the price is spot on. my blue sky is rock solid and i dont expect ill need to replace in my lifetime (barring theft or disaster)
It would be nice to see how it reacts to guitar volume
Pretty damn well, but it cleans up just slightly less than a valve amp ( traynor ycv 50 )
But the pot roll off sound with my prs is awesome, you can go from a Malcolm Young sorta sound to Dirty.
It sounds great, nothing like say... a line six where when you lower the pots and it sounds garbage, it responds really well.
If you use the expression out and the favourite on board switch, will you have both able to utilise simultaneous?
+thomas golden - Yes, you can use both an expression pedal and the on-board Favorite switch at the same time on the Riverside.
thank you! I just used it like you said...
damn nice pedal, the only problem with it is the Friedman Be-od and the Wampler pinnacle deluxe2
Literally just shit my pants seeing this video. all I'm missing now is a Strymon Volume and tuner pedal and the dream is complete!
Is that a JC - 40 amp in the background when you are using the Suhr, Pete? Best, Pete.
Hi Pete! That is a JC-40 indeed :)
I just bought this drive pedal....you will want two of these on your pedal board! I realize its not the newest on the market but damn does it sound good and have the real-world features for gigging! Nothing newer in my opinion is as good.YMMV.
I feel like I just got a PhD in how to dial in any gain tone.
Love that JC sound.
wow that's it, I've been watching this for three days. Guess who is ordering this right now.........lol
Is it me?
Sounds good, and I don't mean to be negative, but £300? He explains the complexity of the circuits and the technology/design seems extremely intuitive but the actual sound doesn't seem as good as what I was expecting.
Me and a friend made some bets on ya'll making an overdrive. Did ya'll do any behind the scenes videos when you were working on it? I'd like to hear some thoughts behind the design process.
That would be a really fun blog to do. Going to pass that along to the team :D
That would be awesome! Keep up the good work!!
Hey guys, would you say the riverside will work well for some really heavy rock music? Thanks!!
Totally! Riverside can achieve great high gain tones :)
I need to ask as they are one of my favourite bands... Was this named in tribute to the band of the same name, whom lost their guitarist Piotr Grudzinski last year?
Hi Serris, We didn't, we named it after a street here in Los Angeles, Riverside Drive, but we do have fans here... Mark, who does Product Development here, played at a show that Riverside also played at in Mexico some years ago!
strymon hah, I get it! Riverside Drive it is! well you got brownie points from me, anyway!
Can I plug this directly into powerstage 170 like a preamp pedal?
Yes! Riverside works well as a preamp circuit feeding into any power amp.
Can you tell me what pickups are in the LP style guitar please.
Hi, That is Pete's Agile. It has a Seymour Duncan '59 in the neck, and a GFS Fat Pat in the bridge.
I cranked it up all the way on my tube blackstar 20 12 speake sounds like a a high end mesa boogie from C level to A level... amazing on y PRS ( Korea 2001) the pedal kills the Klon like a world class gain that is organic.. a push ... thrust a sweet metal sound ....the best sound I had in 35 years,,, the best overdrive pedal ever,,,,, so beautiful.... makes me sound like a pro
Am I correct that you can only switch between low gain and high gain by hand?????
Riverside responds to MIDI, so everything is controllable externally, no problem!
That guy is a cool nerd 🤟🏼
Str-eisenburg on guitar!
One day people will figure out when you want the BEST overdriven sound, you'll buy an AMP that sounds great overdriven. Marshall anyone? lol
Im trying to learn Jazz Guitar. What are the essential pedals to get? What do I not need?
Hey there! It really depends on what sounds you specifically want to get, and it also depends on other parts of your rig, like your guitar and amp. Jazz is also such a broad genre - someone trying to nail jazz fusion tones is going to need different gear than someone trying to get Grant Green or Wes Montgomery tones.
Once you've settled on a guitar and amp, a good starting point is usually a reverb of some type and a drive pedal, assuming that your amp doesn't have a reverb you want to use, and you're not getting overdriven tones from your amp.
If you have specific songs you're trying to replicate the tone to, we're always happy to offer some suggestions if you'd like to email us at support@strymon.net.
Hope this helps!
Great tone Walter White!
hi :) i was wondering if you could give me the brand of the strat style guitar. Thank you God bless you
Hi, That is Suhr Classic Antique :)
strymon thanks men
ordered one..and now we wait :-P
whats the dif between overdrive and distortion?
This is kinda subjective as the line between the two can blur a bit, but, generally, an overdrive pedal produces lower gain and less breakup (like a vintage tube amplifier) than a distortion pedal that produces more gain and much more breakup in the tone. There are many varieties for the two types with some being able to cover both low and high gain sounds, but, typically, overdrive pedals produce lower gain than distortion pedals.
Or you could buy about 8 reasonably priced overdrive pedals, and have more sound options than you could ever want, or maybe a side by side comparison with an AMT SS11a? Something of equal price range..
What make? model of guitar?
Can you do a fuzz?
id like one given to me in a squirrels bonnet, presented on a tray made from Cleopatras old sandals
Will this make my ss amp sound like a tube amp?
Riverside adds harmonic complexity that will truly shine in front of any amplifier. We haven't found an amplifier yet that does not benefit from the tones Riverside adds! Pete has a JC40 at home, which is solid state, and did a lot of testing in front of it. We definitely think you will be pleased if you try one out =)
I find them peculiar all these videos. This is absolutely not only a
major gaffe by Strymon only, but shares this with the - say - new Seymour
Duncan Palladium pedal demoes too. While they work perfectly, and sounds
awesome, I have yet to see or hear any video where they actually BACK OFF
THE VOLUME ON THE GUITAR while playing, to show the pedals traits.
Yet, on their specs, and web sites, and features, they hype that trait to the moon and back, and just SAYS
it is capable of handling the diming of the volume knob on the guitar while playing through it. Not showing it at all in any soundcloud file, or demo on the YT.
Up the ante now, please Strymon!
Otherwise it's still just a high gain - tax-it-to-the-max pedal - that there's already dime a dozens of!
Cool! How does it stack with other overdrives?
Its a brand new product, I doubt they have much data on that as of today - but if the Deco Drive is an indicator, it stacks just fine.
+BluesLicks101 Agreed! I am dying to pair this with my DECO!! Linking via the boost will be great for dual rhythm/lead sounds.
For sure - one of the things I really like about the Deco that I think I am hearing (or NOT hearing as the case may be) in the Riverside vids is the pedals run really quiet when they are not being played, probably some advanced DSP noise filtering in there. Strymon is a great company.
You can get 8 sounds if you use the Expression and boost, actually more with blended sounds...I only pair it with Fuzz
I’m the one who rocks!!
