- In this week’s video we continue our Atlantic crossing.
Here is a link to the great guided meditations that got me through the passage! I highly recommend. They are a great way to set the tone for a great day 👍

This Channel just gets better and better. Eva does an excellent job with her portion of the videos. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
Love how Ava took over in this episode! Cheers!
Glad you liked it :)
One of the best episodes ever...loved it. Ava's humour is just brilliant and adds an entertainment factor that cannot be underestimated. Great video 👍🙂
Thank you :)
What a team. The perfect balance between Mads' attention to boat technical detail, and Ava's super sense of humour and ability to get to the heart of the matter. Sail Life just gets better and better.
Love it. The culmination of all those years, and how perfect it all turned out with fun wife and everything.
Showering every day on a passage!!!! Next level of sailing!!! Well done!!!!
Haha! We were pretty impressed with ourselves!
Eva's part was great! Mads, please also show us Athena sailing, let us feel how she glides along. You guys are awesome
It's hard. It used to be a DIY channel, we'll give them some time to adjust :-) Maybe next week we'll see more winch action and sail trim action. 😁
👍🏼
This was one of my favorite of your videos. After all the (somewhat extensive) refitting, finally you are out at sea and making a crossing. I've seen a lot of sailing videos, but this one really showed me what it's like. I liked all the details: how you sleep, how you make food, and what happens when. I know it's repetitive, but don't underestimate how interesting a day-in-the-life montage can be for those of us on land. In other words, consider more videos showing how a day goes on board. It's interesting to see that there's both "work" and free time. And fortunately time for humor! Keep it up!
Ava is always so entertaining. She’s very special.
Your boat refit has been hugely impressive and the finished article is so well thought out and integrated. My big trip is years away but your channel is a goldmine of ideas and experiences. Great to see you had such a calm (overall) Atlantic crossing.
Congrats on the crossing, it is great to watch your adventures. I am curious why you ran the engine to charge batteries, and not the little Fisher Panda you installed?
I simply love your videos, showing the aspects of a long journey on a small boat, and always with a smile on your faces. Stay safe and enjoy the journey.
Thank you :)
you are my newest favorite couple to watch who Sail the ocean....so happy to see you sail
It is always a wonderful surprise to get to watch one of your new videos!
Love the banter between you two. I can only imagine the off camera laughter. Thanks for sharing your day
I watched most of the re-fit videos and really enjoyed them.. I drifted away for a while and came back. I'm so impressed Ava!!!
Best video yet, thanks for giving DIY a rest for at least an episode.
Wow a 5 star passage thanks to Eva and all the modern features Matts installed during the refit. Great video thank you. This is a bonus video right? ☠⛵🌞🌛
So glad to see you're both doing well at sea! Great Video. Thank You!!
I see you made it to Barbados a few days ago on MarineTraffic. Looking forward to that episode.
A guess you meant a few weeks ago. They finished their crossing the 13th of april.
The cut with “I need to find a way to get revenge” and the next shot being with the shower in the background, was perfect timing 🎉
Pre-cooking meals reminds me of the old-fashioned TV dinners and the TV tray. This is back in the 1950s when the TV dinner would be in a tin container and cooked in the oven. Yeah, back in the day there was no microwave, no computer or copy machine, no color tv, 3 channels on the B&W tv, and no whole house air conditioner. Yeah baby, you've come a long way with a rice cooker and frozen pre-made entrees in big "burpable" (or not) plastic containers! You even have a lovely wood table/tray in the cockpit. Bon Appetite for the next month! :¬) Webhead USA
This is a great video! Seems like you guys are doing pretty well. I would recommend you clip in your harness when you are alone in the cockpit. Or really any time you are above decks. Clip somewhere where you can't even fall overboard. You don't want to be towed along in the water by your harness. I do like those AIS MOB beacons, too. But the key thing is not to go overboard in the first place.
We usually do try to clip in if we are in the cockpit on our own. We especially always do on our night watch 👍
I had to laugh thinking about how you were worried about transitioning to sailing videos vs pure DIY...its fun to see you as a sailing couple and your channel is better and more enjoyable than ever!
Respect. Probably one of three RUclips sailors who have even heard of the COLREGS.
Great to see you both save and well and you distance to shore is reducing each day. Well done with your routine and planning. Cheers Ian
Loved the cake bake, fair winds.
I love the red lighting under the cabinets in the salon! It looks like it makes for good visibility, and stylish looking too!
Great watching the day in the life of a passage maker . The cake looked so good , Eva's really a good shipmate your very lucky skipper !
you kids are having a blast! Enjoyed your status report.
Keep the technical updates coming - what is working, what is not working and the maybe next time I would fit something different!! Every sail boat sings a quiet song when progressing and Athena is no exception - Take care.
"Love you" are the two words people hardly use as apart from loving and caring it's important saying it too. The keep fit has to be a must for "everyone" as it keeps you healthy physically and mentally epically when it only takes so little time in the day. Love you guys and nice one as always. Thank you.
Great to see you both enjoying the passage
Ava is a natural on screen. As if she did that forever
My wife knitted one of those, it was named Squidly.
Great sailing, I am envious.
Take care.
What a great adventure!! You are awesome, thanks for sharing your experiences!
Awesome job y'all. Glad to see it's going well. May the winds be in your favor. 👍👍👍👍👍
Safety First! Love that you use MOBs!
Love to see the two of you back together and the great content you share. Thanks for making us enjoy the passage with you, from the comfort of our sofas 😉😁
So neat. Thank you for sharing your voyage.
l like it, Ava your such a Hoot. 😂 Mads thinks ahead to keep things nice and safe.
Safe passage for Ava
Sea-Fever
BY JOHN MASEFIELD
I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.Sea-Fever

Good stuff guys, enjoying the reports and for sure the pre-cooked on a sail boat is a must i reckon.
Great documentary video of a long journey. Wish you fair wind and smooth sailing.
Ava your octopus is adorable!
Ava's bit was great this week!
love these videos thanks for sharing your time afloat
Hey! The freezer top works! Yay!
Such a great couple!
Great video guys. I agree the rice cooker is a game changer for sailing :))
It´s great to see you guys are OK! Stay safe!
25 years ago i did have a very nice holiday on Barbados with my then 3 year old daughter, who kept calling the Island ..Barbasie, ani it has stuck...remember Barbasie. Hope that you arrive safe and enjoy Barbasie...lots if love
Aw, thats very cute. Ava loves it!
We have an AIS mob on one side of our inflatables and the personal epirb on the other. The AIS is automatic, and you can trigger the epirb in case the boat doesn't come back.
Next up is to install an AIS in the inflatable DAN bouy.
Great to see the results of all your preparations working smoothly. Well done!
So amazing to see you finally crossing the Atlantic after all that fun DIY stuff! I really can't decide what I like more. 😄😍
Is there already anything in detail on all that pre cooking? Maybe some recipes on the blog? Fair winds and happy sailing! David
Love the octopus!
Have never crossed an Ocean but sailing up and down the East Coast, as a couple, we found an 8 hr watch rotation worked great. One watch alone , one watch shared. Having spent many years working a four to midnight shift, Ok was very comfortable with a sunset watch. My wife loved a sunup watch. We then shared a sort of normal day together. 16 hours awake, 8 hours sleep. A normal rythme for most folks.
Brilliant! That's the result of a ton of hard work and preparation!
Thank you for taking me on your adventure. I look forward to your next video.
the best show on youtube !!! you guy are adorable :)
Excellent, thanks!
You guys love your show thank you so much for including us in this great adventure hope to see you in the Gulf of Mexico no one ever goes to Louisiana but it’s a beautiful place. Also the American Gulf of Mexico is a very wonderful place.
Try going to soft blue night lighting instead of red. That's what some folks like the US Navy have done for over 20 years after much research.
Suitably dim white or LED amber light also works, but the strength of the light becomes more important. Blue will not affect your night vision.
Rice cookers are great! I purchased a $9 one from Walgreen's. The guy who rang up the sale told me to keep track of the receipt because the cheap ones won't last. Well, after eight years of weekly use, it is still working just fine.
It’s really not difficult making rice in the old school way with a saucepan…less storage required that way.
We eat a lot of rice, and since purchasing our rice cooker it makes making perfect rice so easy. From a guy who can burn water being able to put a cup of rice in the rice cooker add the water and push a button then 15 minutes later the alarm sounds and I've got perfectly cooked rice is a miracle.
@@bob_the_bomb4508 We like how much safer it is underway with the rice maker. No boiling water that could accidentally spill out with the tight locked lid 👍
@@SailLife makes sense :)
what the heck am I going to watch with my Sunday morning coffee now???
Sail Life Re-runs? ;)
Nice episode. Great progress!🎉
Dude u got her so trained...I'm jealous in ways....hope yall enjoy trip...God bless yall
Amazing thank you!
did I have a stroke? Why is it dark on Sunday afternoon when I watch Sail Life? Maybe we get 2 episodes this week!
We've messed with the space time continuum again ;)
Great team.
As an evening trucker & hopefully former one. Seeing morning emerge was delightful!
Watch rotation between two folks (or groups/teams) ...
We call that "Port & Re-Port" in the USN.
Great video. It’s fun to watch you guys take that project boat out to sea after all the hard work! It keeps me going!😊
Wow! This is a surprise guys. Now I'll have to sleep in Sunday morning. Thank you for sharing. And Ava, try the crispy part of the cake in the bottom of the pan with the batter over it like a pineapple upside down cake. You can also add butter and brown sugar to the crumble to make it gooey and sticky. Take care and have a great week ahead.
That is a great idea! Wish I would have thought of that at the time. I'm for sure going to try it now!
Good luck guys 😀
Coming to relieve you 😂 best ever intro Madds
What a joy! You two are a sweet couple. Ava's parts are so joyful. Barbados. I don't think that I've seen any other YT channel go there. Looking forward to it.
So great to see you guys underway and everything is going smoothly. I love my rice cooker, but my best appliance is a Brava; cooks with light, just a bit bigger than a rice cooker. Smooth sailing!
I love to see how you've made your life onboard so homey.
Great Teamwork...
Lovin it!!
if you want to drill into stainless steel buy drill bits made of cobalt, get a set of all sizes, and a bunch of 1/8"bits for starters. they are more expensive but cut into stainless steel like butter, do not use titanium or black oxide only cobalt cobalt cobalt.
Wow you guys got this nailed down perfect. Well done. Fair winds to Barbados.
Looking good guys, almost there. 👍👍⛵
Much luck u guys, love the octo mas.... and im a truck driver, been doing the pre made meals for years makes life simpler by far.
I'm surprised that after all the electronic doo-dads and toys Mads installed into Athena using a red headlamp inside is necessary. Every work area inside the boat has red task lights and there are also overhead red lights that illuminate the entire area of the belowdeck cabin areas as well as the cockpit including task lights over the cockpit nav station.
Perhaps it is just a personal preference to use a headlight so as not to disturb a sleeper but red task lighting over the stove, the galley countertop, the sink, the fridge area, and the interior nav desk like we have seems easier and more convenient when doing chores.
Love the “cake dust” moment. Would like the details on the rice cooker pls! Well done on the fatigue management!
I enjoy watching your channel safe travels
Awesome
you guys are awesome
7 years of sailing around the world and yes, the "gusts" are usually the reality of the wind when you are off shore. My other general rule, is if the forecast is 10 kts or more add 5 kts. If 10 kts or less, subtract 5kts. The higher the wind forecast the more you should add. 30 kts will be closer to 40kts in reality.
Looking forward to your experience with the heavier weather ahead.
It must be like being in a space pod. Such a good idea to have fitness regime. Stay safe
Always look forward to your videos. great insight into long distance sailing. thank you
You guys look a bit tired but ok. I'm sure as soon as you get close to Barbado's the excitement level will come back. The sea state looks perfect, well what you showed us. See you next week...thanks John
It's so nice when one is shorter than 6.43 foot or 6.03 as me and my partner its so nice seeing how comfy you are with the space given on your boat. When Eva is sitting totally relaxed on this tiny little cockpit cushion and I try to imagine us being unable after a few minutes to find a relaxed seating position on it somehow I guess if we would be on that boat our followers would do so cause it would look like a comedy show which we should name "anchovies afloat"
Haha, you are completely right!
You came a long way! That must feel fantastic. Not just the journey, but also the rebuilt. If you were to do that again, would you just buy a new boat or at least a empty hull?
Using your life vests even on nice days is probably the smartest thing I've seen all the sailing channels I watch do. I wish some of the younger folks that seem to love to take risks while sailing would start doing this. I don't know if it's being younger and thinking nothing bad can happen or thinking they are bullet proof.
I wish some of these young sailors would just practice trying to Manuver a boat to be able to turn around and find someone in moderate rolling seas and then how hard it is to get back on board a moving rolling boat . Without a floatation device thier chances of survival in warm water is very slim but in cold hyperthermic water Temps it's next to impossible to survive very long an is next to impossible after being in cold water for any length of time to be able to physically be able to help someone who's trying to get them back on board. A very wise responsible thing to do while sailing alone on your watch.
cheers!
Very nice video! Looking forward to landfall.
