The show is held in La Grande-Motte France, which was just a day’s drive from where we were in Italy. And with our new boat being so close to being finished, we couldn’t deny the opportunity to do some last-minute idea shopping. To see which catamaran builders were being innovative, thinking modular, and getting creative with how to best use these tiny spaces. Because we sailors are a varied bunch with different needs, jobs, passions, and hobbies. One size does not fit all.

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

The Windelo 50 and 54 are incredible boats. A bit of an Ikea interior, but that forward cockpit, fully enclosed and all lines leaving to it, is absolutely genius. And right there next to the mast!!!

No need to apologize for attending this boat show. You are professionals now especially when it comes to multi hulls and sailing now. And you are driving the industry toward electric drive, solar, generation off water current while underway and rain water capture. I love your show. I am patiently waiting to see you take delivery. And this type of show between boats is great.

I love love LOVE the Windelo line. People knock it for having a bit of an "IKEA touch" on the inside, but I think it's more than made up for with how convertible that boat really is. I too love the deep wood look as much as the traditionalists, but having a boat with sort of blend between outside/inside means those wood materials will be subject to the elements more than perhaps, a fully closed interior might be. As far as the electric drive/diesel range extender idea? I LOVE THAT! Everyone should be doing that. Sailboats tend to be hard on their main engines since you tend to heat cycle them a lot.. Short runs for 5-15 mins to leave the marina, then shut them off. Then just to restart them for another 5-15 mins to moor up or to get into the marina or whatever your situation is. Short runs on engines shortens their lives. This boat on the other hand, will do up to 4 hours at 6kts if my research serves, and only then would run the generator to assist, and the range on the hybrid system alone is incredible. I love the idea of a generator that will run for a few hours to top off batteries and then shut down once no longer needed, and it'll run at a more or less constant RPM and probably last 3-5x longer than most main engines will because it's so controlled, and only occasionally used. The electric motors themselves? It's one moving part vs many on a ICE engine. Reliability shouldn't be much of an issue at all with such a simple design, and Bell, who make the motors/controllers, is a company that is everywhere which means serviceability should be no issue and I'm sure they can "remote in" and solve any software issues as long as you have internet. All that for the 50' version which is a bargain compared to many others of similar size IMHO, starting under 1.5M. I'd do mine with the U shaped galley, the office with dual pullmans forward port, and the bunks on the starboard cabins just like the one shown as well. My only small issue would be the laundry situation is a bit lacking for a live aboard. That tiny washer/dryer would need a lot of runs to do a load of laundry for one person, let alone any guests you might have onboard. I suppose one can customize and add a larger one somewhere if needed. Small potatoes for what is otherwise an amazing concept! Having the forward cockpit is a plus for visibility too, though might prove a bit challenging for docking purposes due to being low/inwards on the boat. Nothing that some practice can't solve!

Windelo is my new lotto boat. The central helms are such a great idea, and I'm sure they make the boat feel smaller and easier to sail compared to 'traditional' cat helms or especially aft helms. 54 foot boat with only about 27 feet in front of you. Outremer definitely has the best 'traditional' cat helms and it's great that closing off the cockpit isn't an afterthought either.

At sea the windelo handles like a sports cat balanced but super safe and dry...even in those sort of conditions...going into the wind in a severe Med chopper sea.
They have already had one do an 8 month circuit of the N Adlantic. Home via Newfoundland and Iceland the Faroes and Irish sea.
Even using aircon and full familly house mode then heating on the Northern return ... They only used 800L in eight months.
The Windelo is not only green hybrid drive the hulls insulated and skinned in Basalt... So its light...
It has three basic versions and two hull lengths. The early ones were 48... 50s and later ones added an extra 5-6 feet.
Good show tour... and good to see multihulls.

I'd never seen a forward cockpit before until I saw it on your channel and now suddenly it's the ony thing that makes sense to me! Single handed sailing would be so much afer and easier when you have everything that close at all times! Sensational boat!
The Outremer is also beautiful, but the 3 position helm just seems an inferior solution to the forward one too me!

The down side to a forward cockpit is that the helm is separated from everything happening in the aft cockpit. The ideal is probably to put a forward cockpit, and then have aft wing stations on each side, but that raises the expense. It is all about picking among the myriad different tradeoffs.

Intetesting! But there is no stop on continuing development. My priorities would be 1) Safety, seaworthiness and robustness. Huge windows and square portholes is a nono 2)Sailability, stability, performance, ease of use of winches etc. 3) Practicality of interior. A bed in the main cabin is out if the question, what about privacy when you are in the harbour 4) No unnecessary heavy finishings of the interior

I have looked at the aft helm boats you discuss at 16 minutes in. I think that would be great if you're in a colder climate, but in a hot climate, the exposed position would be hot, IMHO.
I sort of like the idea of the helm right up front (I think it was the Windelo boat). But I have never actually seen one in person. And you're correct that as you sail and learn more, you'll develop a preference that works for you and the type of sailing you like to do.

After Rosie Swales travels on a Catamaran, I got intrigued, but rapidly discovered they have a really weird Corkscrew motion which really messed me up, in far from uncommon wave heights and frequencies. Thanks to half a Stugeron anti Seasick tablet before going aboard (I always take half a tablet as a Preventative ) I wasn't Seasick, but tbh, there's no way I could be comfortable living with that. I did try a Trimaran though, and was so impressed, I nearly bought one, but costs of Haulout, Maintenance, plus Marina erths if you can even get one, all added up to way beyond what I could afford. So I've stuck with Monohulls ever since. So Try a Catamaran first would be my advice, just to check if the motion is going to mess you up ? Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob. 👍⛵️✨️

Jason, I've been meaning to send this for a long time. A lot of your audience use subwoofers. Because you don't, you don't hear the low frequencies that sabotage your sound anytime the wind's blowing or there is low end info at sea. The bass frequencies envelop high end, resulting in difficult-to-distinguish speech. I suggest rolling it off with a steep curve at around 60 to 80 hertz. Still loving your show, buddy!

After a visit from Ft Lauderdale, we still sweep up " sand " for weeks afterward, Hands to Cleaning Stations.

Thanks for sharing all this fun. I’m clear that I will never get a sailboat or yacht.
    I had a canoe once.

Would love to see what you think of the serial hybrid setup of the Windelo. Given that you reduce the number of diesel engines you need to maintain by 1 (compared to your HH parallel setup), with weight savings to boot.
