It’s the living end, a fancy-dress ball for blood fiends in Count Von Krolock’s Transylvanian castle. Surely no mortal would be foolish enough to infiltrate this hemogobbling horror of a soiree. But partygoers notice something in the ballroom mirrors: the reflections of humans - vampire killers - dancing among them. Director/cowriter Roman Polanski (The Pianist, Rosemary’s Baby, Chinatown) spoofs vampire movies with this droll balancing act of shocks and laughs. He also portrays Alfred, mousy apprentice to a doddering researcher of vampirism (Jack MacGowran)...and the lovestruck defender of gorgeous Sarah (Sharon Tate) when the Count (Ferdy Mayne) tries to make her the ghoul of his dreams. It’s all fang-tastic fun!
Special Features: Vintage Making of Featurette "The Fearless Vampire Killers: Vampires 101; Alternate Animated Title Sequence; Theatrical Trailer (HD).
Directed By Roman Polanski

This opening was added only in a US release of the film, by producer Marty Ransohoff. It was only one of numerous other changes made by Ransohoff without Roman Polański's knowledge - and those included changing the film's real title, "Dance of the Vampires". When Polański learned of the changes and saw them, he hated them to the point of attempting to remove his name from the US release of the film. Fortunately, all European releases had preserved Polański's version, although, somewhat curiously, the actual title disappeared and was replaced by a translation of "The Fearless Vampire Killers" in most markets.
The German, French, Belarussian, Russian, Ukrainian, Croatian, Serbocroat and Hungarian title all preserve a translation of "Dance of the Vampires", while the Danish and Swedish title change it to "Night of the Vampires" and the Italian version went with the other part of the title, "Would you kindly not bite my neck".
This opening was erased from the DVD edition. Thanks for sharing it. I've been looking for it since the 80's when I saw it in the TV in my country Chile.
For those who grew up with the US version, we really need an authoritative bluray release of both US and UK films.
Looks like Pink Panther mixed with the Peanuts specials.
😄 True, but the movie itself is great.
@ Paul Mantell and a little bit of Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley DoRight, and other Jay Ward cartoons.
The animation opening was also produced by David H. DePatie and Friz Freleng.
In my opinion its my felling that animation of Gene Deitch is back.
For some reason, it makes me think of school house rock animation than pink panther or peanuts
Наконец то нашёл этот мультик перед фильмом Бал Вампиров. 1967 года. Пару раз его только показывали.
Anybody know who did the animation? Looks a lot like Jay Ward's style.
This is art!!!
Finally. Restored
I assume Rankin/Bass teamed up with MGM to animate the opening sequence.
No.
When that Vampire’s Eyes SHRINK, DOES ANYONE ELSE GET NIGHT TERRORS?!?
Looks like gene deitch (1924-2020) and genndy tartakovsky teamed up to create some tom and jerry shorts.
Genndy Tartakovsky created dexter's laboratory.
@Edward Hitchcock I know. I was just stating my opinion. I would like tom and Jerry in Genndy Tartakovsky’s art style too.
For some people, Gene Deitch is famous for "ruining" Tom and Jerry in the late 60s (when the studio had a much smaller budget) and ruining Popeye (Late 60s, too) syndicated (when that studio's budget also shrank). But I always loved Deitch's unique, minimalist style as a kid watching the reruns in the early 1980s.
@@juniorjames7076 To Me, He didn't ruin Tom And Jerry. I think he did his own style of the series. Also, His Tom And Jerry Cartoons were from 1960-1962.
@@bardthenascarfanaticdragon That "style" was actually very....EUROPEAN at the time. I grew up in the early 1980s with cousins who at the time were living in France and Belgium (they all moved to America by the early 1990s). When I visited them ('79 and '82), the cartoons on French/Belgium television and the comic books my cousins owned seemed in the style of Deitch. New Wave, minimalist, abstract, even the music was very post-WW2 mordern. Have you ever watched a Jacques Tati film? Its like a live action Gene Deitch cartoon!!
@@juniorjames7076 Genndy Tartakovsky is Russian, and he joined Cartoon Network in the 90's at CalArts. And, No. I've never heard of Jacques Tati. But, I HAVE heard of Robert Shaye. He was the founder of New Line Cinema (A.K.A.: The House That Freddy Built). Do you even know how they got that Nickname?
Why did you cut out the part where the MGM lion grows fangs and the cartoon hunters run away?
I dunno.
@@Vvtheampolo It was the LOGO!!!
is it even possible to watch somewhere this short slapstick version??????
Over the Garden Wall pink panther version LOL.
PLEASE! REALISE THIS VERSION ON BLURAY OR DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bought it last month..great in Blueray format...so clear...great sound...👍
Is this animated opening on the new Blu Ray release a standalone bonus feature, or does it also play like an actual alternate opening of the full movie?
nope. this is actual openning sequence from first version for usa market. the movie was (i think) little shorter and with funny slapstick cartoonish sound effects in entire film. maybe it was not better version than the best known, polanski's final cut but still is unique and rare :( and im looking for this version, btw
@General Grievous The Galactic Hero ... and how should i know? i'm not WB. and i don't know their plans. but i'm pointing: its not "alternate opening" because whole movie version was "alternate". different cut, different, dubbed audio. i hope WB has some plans to realise this.
@General Grievous The Galactic Hero which version of it??? because i know the movie was released on dvd and blu ray.. but only the other, official, longer, european polanski's (the director's) version. this cartoon here is from early usa version, edited under producer (martin ransohoff) demands and tastes. i have seen usa-version only once in tv, MANY years ago. i live in poland and polish television probably still have that previous version in their archivs. but i never came across any dvd or bluray version of it.
@General Grievous The Galactic Hero well... look... we are talking about two variations of the same movie. cinematic animated intro is no big deal, but... by IMDb: "This film was originally released in the United States in an edited version. This version was shortened by approx. 20 minutes, all actors voices redubbed to make them more American-sounding (most notably that of Abronsius), the music was slightly altered and a cartoon prologue featuring Abronsius & Alfred was added. This was done by producer Martin Ransohoff without Roman Polanski's approval. Other edits included the shortening of the trip to Krolock's castle, the shots of Shagal watching the maid cleaning the floor as he stomps the sauerkraut, and Alfred searching for the mysterious voice in the castle corridors. Ransohoff also tried to have the American version distributed under the title "The Fearless Vampire Killers: or, Pardon Me But Your Teeth are in my Neck". Upon seeing this American version, Polanski tried to have his name removed from the credits. The prints that are currently being used have been restored to their original British length of 107 minutes and carry the title of simply "The Fearless Vampire Killers". "
There is another cartoon in which the MGM lion turns into some kind of green goon.
It's Like Pink Panther
This is funniest art, but I even wondering what if there's a new HD SFX for this one?
Très amusant,très bien conçus
5***** pour cette vidéo très sympathique
Does anybody know the name of the song used on the animated sequence? Couldn't even find on the official soundtrack
This sounds exactly like the music from the midnight ball part of the movie.
Tanz Der Vampire...(Dance of the Vampires)...Ball room scene on The Fearless Vampire Killers
I believe movies like *Catalina Caper* and *Moon Zero Two* had an opening sequence like this.
It’s s pitty the soundtrack of the movie left this music out, the ball music!
Amazing how everyone else is getting away with uploading licensed shit on YT and YT let's it pass. I upload something and I get blocked for "copyright claim". Fuck YT.
ЧТО ЭТО БЫЛО?
This is really awful. American Producers really screwed the film up.
Bro it's just a 2 minute animation that's not part of the movie
I agree. This was part of the US's attempt to dumb down the movie, change its nature. I think the film is a great blend of dark comedy and eeriness which is quite a rare mixture to get right. I never minded the fanged face that appeared with the blood dripping down the credits, but this whole animation just doesnt fit with the film.
