  • Hey everyone, my name is Cory and I'm a small town artist working bit by bit on my art portfolio. I am really interested in art that is inspired by nature! In this video, I work on a conceptual art idea in which I gather some rocks in the wild and figure out how to get Helvetica text onto them. Rocks are just one of those things that most people, as they've grown older, don't really pay attention to (unless you're a geologist!). Even though they're mundane, I've always been fascinated by how ancient they can really be - especially their relationship to human evolutionary past (think the stone age!). During this art project, I was contemplating those ideas and even asking, "would a distant human civilization even remember what a rock is?" You might be asking, "why didn't you just paint the words on?" My answer is, "doesn't Helvetica look so much cooler! Almost like I ran the rocks through my laser printer!"
For anyone curious, I'm using a Sony ZV-1 for filming and to transfer text to the rocks I used Sunnyscopa Film-free Waterslide Decal Paper (Type B). This work was inspired by Conceptual, Minimalist, and Earth artists.

Thanks for checking out the video!
