One of the BETTER videos on RUclips! I appreciate the 'white board' diagram, too. I need to know HOW things work! Thanks!
That was absolutely marvelous RUclips video. Unfortunately it informed me that in all likelihood the Rack Pinon is shot. However you got my Sub!
Dude! I bought an 05 Dakota a couple weeks ago and I've been putting back money to replace the power steering pump due to the noise. Watched your video and ran out to turn the wheel back and forth a dozen times and the noise literally disappeared! Just air in the lines! Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!!
love this video clear and concise wonderful demonstration & drawing
Just finished watching this video. My toyota sequoia fluid reservoir is full and doesn’t appear to leak. As I have not needed to add any fluid. Yet it still squeals. And is hard to turn at low speeds. I will be trying the turning to get air out and then the rack and pinion test. And I will be back. Great video. Simple and easy to understand. Love the white board explanation for us non-pros.
Finally someone tht explains with drawings ,so helpful
100% best. Video. I've been having a power steering leak for over a year now and just have put off replacing power steering pump because I wasn't sure if it was something else that could be damaged on the vehicle. This help me diagnose exactly what was wrong and I am going to be replacing the power steering pump tomorrow thanks so much. I also do appreciate the Whiteboard drawing it kind of taught me more about power steering than I originally knew
So detailed! Girlfriends camry is having exact same issues and this helped so much!
Amazingly easy to understand for me, thank you! I LOVE YOUR SIMPLE DIAGRAMS
Very Helpful! Thank you for the actual sound of the engine/steering noises as well as the demonstrations.
I like your simplicity in your explanation of difficult items. Excellent teacher!
Thank you! your video was nice and clear and really helped me know just what to look for on my son Focus that is making a whining noise when turning. The fluid is full but it makes a noise and seems to get power steering back when he hits the gas but looses it when he isn't hitting the gas.
This 1 of the best videos I have seen!! ❤ Thank you for keeping this posted ..Canada
Great videos man! Very good explanations and very detailed. The HOW it all works together really helps ppl understand each components job and where to look for problems.
Keep up the good videos! You should be a mechanic.
This happened to my Infiniti m45. I left the car to sit in the cold weather for almost a week while using my very reliable Honda. I would start the car daily but never drove it. When i did decide to drive it, a loud noise was heard from the power steering pump/reservoir. The steering wheel was hard. I shut the car off and noticed the power steering fluid was oozing from the top of the reservoir. The tire pressure had gone really low so I went to add air to my tires. Steering was slightly hard so I added some synthetic power steering fluid. $2 for the fix minus the fluid which I already carried in my car.
Like the white board diagrams - they are a great help.
+DJ R cool, I like the white board too. You'll be seeing more of it.
Love these diagnosing videos. Nice job amigo..
+beyond2600 Glad to hear, more coming up. cheers
Great video, and complete with a diagram, so very easy to understand - thanks :)
You are the king of Diagnosis .. simple explain thank you
thanks for this video this helped me last night my van was making bad noise and was hard to turn and then I put some steering fluid in the van and it kept being loud. so I looked it up and found this video. and I did that and the noise stopped. all it needed was power steering fluid
My car was making the same exact same noise! I thought it was a faulty power steering pump but it was only a pinched power steering hose. Thank goodness 😅! (Had just had a pump installed)
Love the 2x4 hood stop lol. Great simple and easy to understand information.
Very easy to understand the process as you explain it. Well done.
love this channel, always helpful
Swap reservoir or clean filter in reservoir it’s often just clogged if it’s high mileage. Was the case in my Honda swapped the reservoir and filter and runs better than ever
Should be over million subs
Subscribed. Learning a lot from your videos. Greetings from Australia
Great video. Good stuff to know!
I laughed at first when you went full teacher mode with the board, complete with pointer, but that was actually super helpful. Thanks!
So quick Q: a repair place wants to replace my rack and pinion because I have a leak. I've recently started getting that whining/growling noise, but the car still turns fine. The wheel still tries to go back to its normal position after turning, just like you showed in the video. I'm thinking it might be the pump instead.
Problem: the car is almost 15 years old and has over 200K miles. Is it worth the fix, or should I just keep putting fluid in it (since it's a small leak) until I'm ready to ditch the car here in the next few months or so?
try using power steering stop leak
Depends on whether it will significantly up the re sell value
Cara from then we're still built simple and easier to fix. Plus your insurance can only go down with age. I say do the hard fix.
Very nice video, I learned a lot and very straight forward.
really helpful video, now i know why oil ps always drain, thanks for video.
Thank you for making this so simple
Thanks for sharing! So informative!
Some cars have a filter in the reservoir and mostly making the problem by blocking the oil to the pump ,in my case a Toyota
The power steering fluid for that Camry is ATF Dextron II, I know because I was using the wrong fluid also
good info
Thanks man - well explained
Great video, thanks so much.
I hear and feel absolutely nothing wrong when I do these test. But when I did a routine inspection at Honda they claim I need the whole rack replaced.
Great job. Super informative video.
Great tip thanks for sharing your knowledge my friend. 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
+mijame thach no problem, thanks for commenting. cheers
killer video man
So what do you recommend, to replace the rack for a new one or repair the current? I have been told the repaired racks never work correctly as new. Thank you, awesome video.
yes, replace.
excellent, thank you.
I got a new pump and 24 hours later it started making noise like at the start of the video, but plenty of fluid, no leaks.
While turning left and right to bleed the air, do we leave the power steering reservoir cap open and off the reservoir?
J My4js leave it off it allows the air to escape the system
Great vid my man. THANKS.
Good video can I use a 4x4 instead of a 2x4 to hold my hood up?
Good day. What would be the problem if that kind of noise will only happen after a few hours using the car? Would the problem be with the pump?
How much would a HONEST mechanic charge for this ,opposed to what I would pay to do this myself? Thanks for the video sir .
My 2002 honda civic, making that same excact noise, how the car in video was making,. But no leaking, barley outta my reservoir, & 4 the very first time today, when turning around the corner, steering wheel got stuck,,kinda, but not horrible..but bad enough.. but still making that whining noise..
U think its my pump? Or rack? Or maybe inner tie rods??
Great video . Thanks
My Ford Falcon 2000au was making noise like a growling when I drove. I noticed that my power steering rack was leaking and I decided to put a new one including the tie rod end. After everything was done, I did all the procedure to take the air out of the system. The fluid was perfect, there was no air bubbles and the steering wheel was running perfectly. As soon as I put the wheels on the ground and turned the steering wheel from side to side I noticed that the noise is still there. not as bad as before. I need to know what can be or what I need to do.
Thank you video help me a lot 🧔🏻👍🏼
what are some signs that the power steering wheel pump is bad ? my steering wheels gets kinda hard to turn but it has fluid any and it gets hard
where is the steering box comes? in ur steering fluid diagram I didn't see steering box.... pls explain
On cold days my power steering pump is noise but goes away quick once the engine bay is warm
Me too!!! Renault Logan
Hello Ratchets and Wrenches,
You just made a new subscriber. Just a couple days ago my car started making this noise you described in the video. The noise started really slow but later escalated. While I was getting back home from the store like two days ago; I saw some smoke coming out from the hood. So I parked the car and the next day when I tried starting the car the noise disappeared but the steering became stiff/ strong.
What would you recommend in this instance?
Thanks
Good video. Thank you !
great video thanks
great! that helps me to diagnose my bmw =))
I have issue with my Toyota Camry v6 1999.
I put front car on jak both sides and I turn the tyer by my hand left and right more than 8 times and Suddenly the fiuld come out from power steering Reservoir.
Can you please explain what's the problem is??
Hi. I have a 2008 Mercedes’ r350z. I replaced the rack and pinion with a remanufactured maval unit. It was done by a Mercedes’ specialist who replaced the resovoir and fluid as well.
While it doesn’t leak anymore I find that every now and then it gets sticky while parking. Like I need to give it some gas. During this time I can hear the pump making the noise in this video.
Do you think the pump could be bad?
While the old tack has a small leak, it worked really smoothly and never heard the pump.
Thanks!
I have toyota yaris 2016. EPS light is ON. Fault code is C1544 and C1545. i am a lot trouble in this car, How can i fix it?
My Toyota hiace starts knocking on full lock and the belt looks a bit slack, any thoughts thanks
exelente video
Should there be any play in the power steering pulley?
Thx. Great video!
+Jok Joksson np, thanks for watching.
I have a question how would you look at your racket pinion do you have to remove it completely or can you just look under the hood at it
Thanks i learn alot but i have a questionmy power staring is not going well when i turn right nor left it will get better if i do it with fast speed what is the problem of my car?
I replaced the power steering pump and the power steering pressure hose . After it has a loud noise ! Went I turn or crank it up it eidle up high
Just out of curiosity, did you actually repair the Camry? You dont show that in the video?
Ok I replaced my power steering pump because it was leaking and now after replacing it I started to have that very same annoying noise. My question is how do I bleed the air do I open the power steering fluid reservoir and turn it like you did dozens of times and it should it go away?
Hi. My car just started making that noise yesterday in extremely cold weather. Plenty of fluid so no leaks. If it's the pump and car still steers fine, would you think I'd have some time to replace the pump? Thank you for any info.
Thank you
How do you check fluid level on a electric steering pump
thank you bro
nothing says high tech like a 2x4 holding the hood up.
X-Man gotta keep it old school
a stick holding up the hood is fine with me when someone KNOWS what they are talking about and USES A DRY ERASE BOARD to show it even better!
@Shawana Washington Not for brushing your teeth. LoL
Trust me, I've used a 2x4 many times also.
Yeah but this guy really knows what he's talking about. LOTS of great information here! Great video. Thank God for RUclips
@@sassylrhg The 2x4 is more of a dis on the vehicle. I've used a number of things to hold hood up in my time.
My power steering rattles and grind when you turn it all the way to the right or left and its REALLY hard to turn. I just changed the ball joints.
My power steering is lose and far to easy to steer. In other words it feels to lose. Sometimes it even steers by itself one way or the other. Idk how to explain it. Any recommendation? Tia
Do big wheels mess up the power steering ?????
It can but more likely to effect brakes. More rotating mass is harder to stop. If you go up more than 2" from stock wheel size, you need to upgrade your brakes, particularly on trucks or if you tow anything.
At 2:20 what that hissing sound? is it normal? I have the same noise at my car and how to solve it id it is an issue? Thanks in advance
Ive got a 2003 w211, according to benz the steering is okay, but i once changed a tierod and the steering is heavy, sticking in every position i put it in, also not fully coming back to neutral position, well it wants to but is clunky and trying but failing. Got a new rack but still the same problem. Any ideas? ( car had been parked in our garage for 4 year unused.)
Just like that sound i have in my car audi 80 i spend 3L hydraulic oil to think if i change be can be good but not i get out oil for 3 time and same bad sound is come but in this video if i change that part •---------• I can be repair ?
hello good sir! I have an A6 1.8t aeb and i recently changed and flushed out the power steering pump and lines + clean the screen in the reservoir.. but i have alot of squealing noise from the inside of the pump. is it anything you have heard of? is there any filters? (i use the audi dealer fluid)
That is "i changed pump (New but not org part)"
Mine makes noise when I turn left. Will that still be a bad power steering pump???
what are your thoughts on adding seafoam hydra trans tune as a conditioner for the psf?
Would a bad rack lead to a bad pump later on in time
when you turn the steering wheel lock to lock to free the air that might be in the system do you that with the power steering cap on the reservoir off or on?thanks for the video.
I keep mine fully unscrewed and just resting on the reservoir. Using power steering conditioner mixed in works wonders to
@@MrThorMNFinest mine is making this noise, and just earlier I was turning right, around the corner, first time,, it kinda got stuck, but then , came back,, a cold start. But no leaking ,barley, outta reservoir, and added Lucas, power steering stop leak,, but noise is still there.. but not leaking from reservoir, & still making that same noise, when he was turning.
U think its my pump? Or my rack? Or maybe inner tie rods??
@@stackinchedda8538 what do you mean by: it got stuck stuck ?
when I turn steering full on right or left, my engine tries to die and I hear a grinding sound. What can be the reason?
Yes
@@theragingcreeper9040 great answer...it definitely helped the person asking a question
NGl, extremely good looking
Hi I have an Dodge Charger 14 with noise coming from steering when turning left/right. I did changed the full fluid of the same but still there is some noise?! Plz advise....
What about if the power steering fluid is foaming? and making that noise
How much is cost for the Rack n pinion to replace. I any idea?
My problem temporarily goes away when i turn the wheel in both directions, then the wheel will turn slighty to the right while driving by approximately 3 degrees
How to put together aspire breeze
2:00 I just replace my rack and pinion new ( not OEM) . The steering wheel really soft when it turn but wheel never come back by itself after turn. Oh I have new steering pump-line-reservoir and bleed air few time. never better . Hope you can help me thru this .Thank you
