That steamed bun is called *siopao* (see-yaw-pow), and the paper at the bottom is not supposed to be eaten. It's there to protect the bottom of the bun from sticking to the steaming plate because the dough is really sticky when raw.

A year late, but concerning the pronunciation of siopao, are you sure that is correct? I'm not a native, or even partway fluent, but my girlfriend and her family are, and they all pronounce it as show-paw. Shopow. Siopao. It may be different, depending on the area, I guess. Though, "see-yaw-paw" sounds really backwards to me. I'm not trying to be a language Nazi, just want people to learn proper pronunciation, in case they ever venture to the Pilipinas at want some siopao.

The trikshaw you called @ 9:48 is called TRICICLE in the PHILIPPINES or TRIKES for short. The RICE thing you ate is called SUMAN. In different PROVINCES of the PHILIPPINES they have different names and style of cooking some are cooked in coconut milk some are just plain sticky rice and you dip it in sugar and some are garnish with roasted shredded sweetened coconut on top.

Yes Banaue..Yes Sagada both been there the rice terraces it's like facing a huge painting of God right in front of your face @ the viewdeck and Sagada I underestimated on what would be our itinerary then but I was wrong our 4-day trip was not enough to complete the activities and fully explore the place..The 3-wheeled vehicle is a tricycle, riding on top of the jeepney is a topload..sagada specialty is the pinikpikan..The pork bun you ate is siopao (of chinese steamed pork buns)The view and the place is worth the travel though you will realize afterwards when you're back in the city that it was quite a risky travel ;)

Great intros to life in the PI, my wife is a native. Love your photography...you are keeping the camera very still in general. Kudos. Good edits too. I want to die in the Philippines, if I were ever to die.... it is just a wonderful paradise. We were in Palawan and Cebu a couple weeks ago. I hope you do a lot more videos, you guys are SO cool, realistic and you tell a great story about everything you do. Love it. - You like Japan any better? We have been all over the world including the orient. Hope we bump into you guys some day. Ha, fun stuff. :-)

I agree. I guess it is the people that make if for me, having been to most Asian countries. Yes there are good points to all of course, great people and good food. - Emily and I especially like the way you immerse yourselves into each culture and give us the details ....it is all in the details. Nice job, you make us feel like we are right there with you. Your camera work is good too, no shaking but still enough to make it like a movie. Sweet.

Ooohhh Sagada! Good food, friendly people, nature adventure, fresh and chilly air that I don't get here in Manila. Its awesome that you two got to experience this gem. Besides the caving and hanging coffin spotting, our guide also took us to hike the mountains where there's beautiful falls in it, as well as Kiltipan where you can view perfect sunrises.

Loved the video, another great series. We were in a day behind you in Manila and then we went to Palawan. Woke up super early the 3rd morning and noticed the weather looked like it was gonna suck. We'd booked an island tour that day and asked the woman at the guesthouse if it would be cancelled. She nodded and said 'Typhoon coming' almost as an aside. Holy crap!, we were about 50m from the sea. This can't be a good thing I thought. We stayed put and watched the storm and in the end everything turned out OK.
E, I also got super sick in Myanmar and spent 4 days shaking and sweating in bed. The next year we did the golden triangle in northern Thailand and crossed into Myanmar for lunch one day. I wanted to get the monkey of my back so I ate at some sketchy food carts and I was just fine. I haven't worried about getting sick since.
    Anyway, good work as always.

Haha, I can't believe this video almost slipped past me. I didn't see it under my subscriptions because another person uploaded videos 2 days in a row that had very similar thumbnails and I thought no one had new videos.
Having said that, I think this is one of my favorite videos you guys have posted in a long while. I think the reason is coupled by the fact that you guys seemed to genuinely enjoy every aspect of the trip and that carried through to me. I really enjoyed all the random tidbits (kyde bleating like a goat was illuminating) and the majestic vistas and views. I think it adds so much more to the video when you have footage of what you're looking at while you're describing them (not that I don't enjoy your beautiful faces).
Lastly, thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me, I greatly appreciate them, and have definitely given me an appreciation for the little places and things in life, and I definitely want to travel once I graduate/have the money.

I don't know what it is about this particular video, but Kyde is super cute, moreso than usual. Maybe it's her facial expressions or weight loss or something. And Eric, you're totally getting carried away with the creative cinematography, haha. It's great to see your shit-eating grin every time the camera pans to you (especially when you're about to eat!). Extreme Goat Action:
Man, I just walked back into the bedroom with my coffee, took a sip and heard you say “extreme goat action”. I looked up at the TV and saw you zooming in and out and for a moment I didn’t know what was happening, then you rotated the camera and made that sound effect…dude I legit spit the coffee out of my mouth and almost spilled the whole cup! pinikpikan is best served fresh really with some slices of etag..pinikpikan is a chicken stew prepared by slowly beating the chicken, and singe the feathers over a fire..that actually gives a different taste to the broth..pinikpikan is quite similar to tinola but with a different preparation....ETAG, on the other hand, is pork meat rubbed with lots of salt and fermented on a jar...

You guys should have trekked the rice terraces in Batad all the way down to Tappiya Waterfalls. The view, the climb, the steps & the balancing act on the terrace fields are actually the best parts of the whole rice terraces experience, plus a bonus of Tappiya Waterfalls, haha! It's actually the "RICE TERRACES OF THE PHILIPPINE CORDILLERAS" that are the ones inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List & not the Banaue Rice Terraces contrary to popular belief. There are five sites included on this UNESCO inscription namely the Batad Rice Terraces, Bangaan Rice Terraces (both are in Banaue), Mayoyao Rice Terraces (in Mayoyao), Hungduan Rice Terraces (in Hungduan) & Nagacadan Rice Terraces (in Kiangan), all in the Province of Ifugao. Have you actually seen any one of the five cluster sites or just the ones in Banaue? The Banaue Rice Terraces however, refer to the cluster close to the Banaue Poblacion as seen from the viewpoint. They're not included though in the UNESCO inscription.

We call the bike/sidecar vehicle a Tricycle. The Flintstones mobile is a traditional Ifugao vehicle, there's a yearly downhill race that is being celebrated there where grown men in traditional clothes ride them down the hill.

+Kyde and Eric By they way, I noticed that when you guys are eating rice with toppings, you guys eat them separately like adobo with rice and beef steak with rice. Its supposed to be eaten together, with the adobo or beef steak sauce poured on top of the rice, although they don't served it that way, Filipinos normally combined them before they eat those foods. They taste better that way.

Well I briefly checked all 490 ish comments from years back and could not see an answer to Kyde's question on what the warm remnants of a fire are called. Well here in England we call them embers i.e. hot ashes.
