    This video had everything! Travelling, adventure, bad parts, drama, good parts, pizza, pineapple in the pizza, pineapples in the wild, Star Wars, scammers, beggars and bugs, tons of bugs. Loved it! Very curious to see if you guys actually managed to go into that island.

    I am totally loving this series! The edit on the video was perfect.. loved the cliffhangers!
    Next time you take an epic Kyde and Eric adventure, pack a couple of lawn sized trash bags in your backpacks, so when you get to a motel that looks a little shady, you can stick your stuff in the trash bag and seal it up with rubber bands so you can reuse it again. Then when you are done figuring out who gets the dry towel, you place that towel over the tub/shower drainage and set your stuff in the trash bag in the shower. You wont have to worry about bedbugs, spiders and ants taking the epic journey with you and not pitching in for at least Pepto.
    Do us all a favor from now on will you? Next time you decide to venture out on a bus, sit in the middle to the back, don't sit near the front anymore. The sound of the breaks on that bus you guys bought the coconut pies on made my ulcer bleed. You don't want to be sitting in the front when the breaks fail, and those were pretty close to failure.
    That was the best hour and 1/2 I spent all week! Thanks for sharing!!

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 лет назад

      +Emma Crawford Haha, maybe I have been on too many low quality buses, the sound of the breaks didn't even make me flinch. I didn't notice them when I edited it either, haha. -E

    • @emmacrawford7094
      @emmacrawford7094 8 лет назад

      The bright side is the buses are always going to pick you up, never left you down, they wont run off and desert you. They're never going to make you cry when they say good bye and leave you in the bathroom.

    Hi Im from CDO.
    The "armpit" namecalling of the city is basically between CDO and Davao. And that is still going on if you checkout some CDO vs Davao forum.
    The bun with meatball and egg inside the bus at Agora bus terminal is called baked Siopao. There is also steamed Siopao. You can also get Siopao with other fillings like Asado, Pork, Chicken, Beef, Mongo, and even Nutella.The mixture of syrupy sweet potato, banana, sago, etc youve eaten before watching the Starwars is called "Tabirak" others call it "Binignit". Thats good when served warm.The eggplant you ate at the food court next to a bingo was a bit dry and too much flour in it (too commercial). Its more yummy if less flour. Boil the eggplant until its soft then flatten it. Beat some eggs (about 1 egg per eggplant). And some tiny flour. And pour onto the flatten eggplant. Then deep fry. Its very true that the desparity between rich and poor in the Philippines is very wide like youve experienced at the ribs restaurant. Its sad.

    As a final remark I love the fact, that you guys are so adventorous. If someone else want to visit this region and dont fancy a 10-12 hour trip in a bus with leaf spring suspension (you really bump around), it is worth pointing out, that you can actually just take a plane from Davao to Cagayan de Oro instead. Even Camiguin has an airport, so you can just fly there from Cebu. It will cost a bit more of course, but you save yourself from days of land or sea travel.

    • @kydeanderic

    i love your travel video's on philippines. And I've read some comments here that said "you kept complaining" which is not really. I am a filipino but to me you were just describing the things happened on your travel which is true. You can't sugar coat the story or video like this because people see what's happening around you throughout your travel. And the bread stuff with meat i missed those. They are really good.

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks so much! I was a little confused by people saying we were complaining all the time, I didn't feel that way when we were there, haha. Perhaps it's just a bit of a cultural difference, I dunno. Thanks so much for understanding! -E

      +Papyrus I know. It's a little sad.. But honestly, I would be annoyed too, and I'm a local. The initial begging I have no issues with, but when they "force" you and put you in a very awkward position by repeatedly begging, that's when it gets annoying. A lot of beggars usually take the hint after the first "no."

      +zhaquiri The thing is, I don't think that the kid was a beggar. One, he's on the bus(someone bought him a ticket). and two, he's fat(as eric pointed out).

    • @zhaquiri
      @zhaquiri 8 лет назад +6

      +touchmenot films When someone begs to strangers, they're classified as a beggar. It's not like there's a list of criteria to "be a beggar." lol How poor he actually is versus the street beggars (since he was able to get on the bus) is besides the point, because he was still begging to strangers.

    That mixture of taro, ube (purple yam), sweet potato and banana is called "ginataang halo-halo". The lumpia is Lumpiang Sariwa (fresh lumpia with mixed vegetables with either pork or baby shrimp). You should have put some peanut sauce on it for the sauce. ;o)

    I think that the vegetable stew you guys ate is called Pakbet, where the non-sweet melon is actually kabocha squash or kalabasa in tagalog.
    humba is actually pronounced as whome-bah, or ooom-bah depending where you are.
    Oh yeah, on your past eating adventures in the Philippines, when you were served calamansi and maybe some chilli on a small plate, it is meant to be a dipping sauce, where you squeeze the calamansi in the small plate, add your choice of soysauce, fish sauce, onions, garlic, to personalize your dipping sauce. :) Everyone has a different taste on their dipping sauce, so basically you make your own to suit your taste. :)
    Siopao (Sho-pow) - Our version of chinese steam buns or steam dumplings. :)

    I remember in the 90s I had a field assignment in CDO and realizing how very close the island of Camiguin is, our group planned a visit on our last day but a similar thing happened - the ferries were stalled as supposedly there was typhoon though the weather was fine. The reason they gave was that the waves between the islands easily get crazy dangerous since they're too close to each other, so there had been a number of sinking incidences there.

    There is a pizza chain just like that in the states now called Pie Five. Fixed price for a personal pizza with whatever topping you want and about four crust choices. Really good and quick.

    3:33 That guy was very likely drunk, not a beggar. Beggars don't take buses. He was saying "Ma'am, give me some of that," probably thinking he was funny as fuck or something. I'm guessing the "conductor" (actually an inspector) hadn't boarded yet, because in those cases, they would have intervened.
    15:31 That's _tortang talong_ (literally "eggplant omelet"). It's very very easy to make and yes, best eaten when hot and fresh. Just grill whole eggplants a little bit (like enough so they're soft and squishy), peel the skin, mash it really well, beat some some eggs (season it however you like, pepper, salt, etc.), coat the mashed part of the eggplant with the eggs and fry.
    1:00:52 "Sto. Niño" It's Spanish, a contraction of "Santo Niño", literally "Holy Infant [Jesus]."
    1:04:19 That's _binignit._ If you've ever eaten _halo halo_ this is basically the hot version of that. It's just a random mixture of fruits, root crops (sweet potato, taro, ube), and anything jelly-like (either agar, sago, or tapioca pearls/boba) boiled in sweetened coconut milk. And yes, Philippine empanadas are usually savory, not sweet.
    1:19:00 That barrier is security guards. LOL. They just shoo people.

    48:25 Our word for those is "siopao" (see-yaw-pow)
    1:04:38 That is called "binignit" (bee-nig-nit) which we usually have in the afternoon as a warm snack (or _merienda_).
    1:19:30 Re: "collision of two worlds" Never really thought about that, but now that you mention it, I guess some less fortunate people just have an unspoken respect for "flashier" places.
    I'm just glad we don't see this tinyurl.com/z9t2ktz sort of thing around here...

    Nice video guys. My wife has family in a small village called Medina, which is like 35-40 km from the port town Balingoan, so quite familiar with the area. Sucks that the boat to Camiguin was cancelled. That was for sure unlucky. And yeah. Sometimes strangeness is going on in the Philippines. Like authorities cancelling all boats 24 hours before, a typhoon actually hits. I guess, you nailed it though, when you said, they were just being over causious. In 2013 the typhoon Yolanda killed 5.000 people, partly because of ineffective evacuation. So seems likely, that they are over reacting a bit now, every time there is a typhoon warning.

    Starwars cant fill up movie theathers anymore in CDO or in the Philippines in general. Because DVD piracy is rampant. People will just wait for a couple of weeks then voila DVD from cogon market and Divisoria. Movie tickets are more expensive than a Pirated copy.

    The reason they won't let you go out on the boat even though the hurricane is still a way out is just in case the boat had an issue or broke down it then turns into a huge problem of getting everyone safe in limited time.
    BTW that bingo noise at the food court was completely obnoxious to me, you guys didn't seem to be too bothered by it, but would be a total deal breaker to me.

    If your stomach have gone ballistic you should buy a medicine called "diatabs" and locals sometimes sell this in their home stores at a measly price of 5 pesos each but if you wanna be prepared for that kind of thing, then try buying "diatabs" or an "attapulgite" from a medicine store before you go on your travels. Avoid eating anything that has coconut mill or "gata" in local term since it can worsen your stomach thing.
