    The trap speed tells the whole story. I recall after digging into it a few years ago that the quickest trap speed recorded back in the day was 108 out of a 427 corvette if I remember right, the best Hemi trap speed by Car and Driver was 107MPH, same for the mightly LS6 454 chevelle. This "stock" Coronet went 126mph lol come on. A 3,700lb car would need 600+ crank HP to trap 126, so either it has a ton of weight reduction, or it's making a lot more power than stock.

    • @mocharger06
      @mocharger06 2 года назад +7

      NHRA factored the 426 Hemi at well over 535 HP. Thats how Chevy got the NHRA to keep adding weight to Hemi cars until they were no longer competitive. NASCAR made Hemi teams destroke them to a 5 liter maximum displacement.

    392s pull hard on the top end, their weakness is in the launch, getting a car that's over 2 tons moving without spinning is a problem. It's fairly evident from the video, the crusty old salt with decades of experience and a thorough understanding of his car's abilities, made his lighter, higher geared car launch about as well as it possibly could have, the 392 didn't have enough time/distance to overtake him by the time he got his car up to the point it started to pull hard.

    Why no mention of the year model of the Scat Pack? There is no way that's not intentional. I see no one in the stands so I'm guessing this is not an "official" race where the rules apply? That's obviously not a pre-1980 Scat Pack Dodge, (as per the rules). Almost as obvious is the sound of that cam in the '67 R/T...I could be wrong, (I usually am)...but it doesn't sound like stock duration to me. Anyway, who cares. That is one badass 426 hemi R/T!!! Fun to see it run! Even more fun seeing old school beating new school! Thanks to the owner for keeping it doing what it was built to do and thanks C&Z for sharing this with us! (Miss the jokes, btw. Please bring them back.)

  • @FullTimeGT
    @FullTimeGT 2 года назад +1

    To acheive 11.01s 1/4 mile the R/T has lot more power than 425HP, maybe with also weight reduction, numbers not match up. To achieve the 11.01s with 425hp the car's weight should be around 2600lbs. Also it is mentionned that the 426 had 425 "Gross Horsepower", meaning that the measurement was done engine on a stand without any accessories, ie ideal conditions. The R/T's engine was surely modified.
    Nevertheless 11s @125mph for a 1967 car with most of it's original mechanical components is badass. Much respect for the driver of this car, hope he had enough brakes to stop by the end of the runaway!

    Would be cool to see stock vs stock instead of stock vs modified. Ruined the race. Would’ve been such a nice race if both were stock, as they came from the factory. The trap speed for that car is far too quick for it be of any configuration offered from the factory, it’s actually blatant. It may be abiding by some set of rules but it is not how it rolled off the showroom floor, like that 392 Scat Pack is.

Remove rear seats, replace the fronts with light weight seats, light weight bumper supports, 4.10 gears, light battery, and FBO get these cars into the low 11s. A NSR cam from mmx that just drops in also gains you 30-40whp. Upgrade the valve springs so you can rev higher reliably. That’s about all you can do without going crazy and deleting AC or radio.

With a decent launch, those Scat Packs are 11.70-12.00 cars, while the 67 Hemi R/T was a mid 13 second performer, which was damn good for 1967.
