    This is a great UMX plane. You can fly it crazy or tame. You really can't go wrong. To hand launch, just hold it out of front of you into the wind and go full power and simple release! No pitching a fast ball needed! Another great video you two!

    Brian, I was told if you put 85% expo on the Rudder it’s not so jerky on the ground and you’re able to fly it more like a real four channel plane! Stall Turns, Hammer Heads. Try it, I think you’ll like it a lot better. 😃👍

    This one is interesting to me because I had been waiting for them to use the power system from the ultrix on another plane. I remember when I first unboxed the ultrix and I saw the little motors I knew Horizon was gonna take advantage of the smaller power system to make some smaller UMXs. The old twin engine UMX aero commander I have runs on a 2s 800 and it is pretty big for a UMX, 700 mm wingspan.

    Brian, it's on my wish list! On a side note, I notice that you are storing your Li-Po's in that metal bucket, My question is when the smart Li-Po's discharge they get warm, and also if one of them blows are you worried tat you will destroy the other ones? Thank you in advance Brian!😃

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Год назад

      They get warm primarily on the end, where the chip is (by the Main Discharge lead - and P.S. Gen2 get hotter FYI), so you can figure on where the heat MAY be generated. This is a minor issue, and well, many multiples below the flash point of any of the materials...assuming there hasn't been a failure of some sort of course ;)
      We do the metal container for looks, and a small sort of "fire break" but it'll probably make a giant fire ball straight up, if we ever had a fire. The good news, I'm not concerned, only so much as I have a few fire extinguishers on either side, and safe, ready access to a door for exit, should the worst case ever happen, and windows for my kids to leave at "ground level" if there were a fire...but let's hope that doesn't ever come into play.

    Don't change the nosewheel. Look at pictures of a real Twin Otter. All three wheels are the same diameter. It's a utility type plane and the larger nosewheel goes with that for rough surfaces.

    • @rackmasterh

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Год назад +1

      That's what I was thinking too....just something that can pivot a tiny bit would be HUGE, but MIGHT also cause some strange drag issues too. I wonder if I could make a brass collar and allow it to pivot that way OR just get a steerable plastic bushing like from the Habu UMX or similar???

    • @engineerahmed7248
      @engineerahmed7248 Год назад

      Exactly "if it can pivot a tiny bit would be HUGE". It should be Castor wheel in principle only ie Providing a vertical hinge just ahead of the wheel pin.
      The longer the vertical hinge like a door hinge the better it will perform. ie the vertical vivor points should be apart by at least5mm
      Since u gonna put small wheel surface area will end up being almost same as it is now & hence drag will stay same.

    Same floats different hardware for each plane. The hardware that comes with the twin otter is different than the hardware that comes with the floats set. I tried putting the floats on today and the planes plastic red connector that’s probably glued inside the bottom of the fuselage came loose as I tried to push in the float frame on the rear one and the other side cracked the foam slightly so I gave up on the floats for now. Might try to rig it to my Qidi 560 cross country because I don’t want to cause anymore damage to my twin otter. Why doesn’t eflite use stronger foam on their UMX planes! That’s my only complaint with their lineup.

      So did you use the right set? I can't tell from your explanation. Sorry, just not familiar with the floats on this one.

      At first I put the hardware that came with the floats together and it didn’t line up to the slots so I didn’t even try to push them in to the slots on the plane. So then I got the parts that came with the twin otter and put those on the floats and it lined up for my fail. I was able to use a bamboo skewer and put some foam-cure on the tip and get it inside to the loose float slot. It’s curing now. I’ll give it another go in a couple days.

    Don't you ever get worried that HH/E-flight are moving over to these little UMX aircraft for the sake of what will be happening in the future regarding airspace for RC flying in the USA ?? Also is it like the F14 in that they have made it so only the Smart battery will fit so you are forced to purchase your battery from HH ? - I do hope not as I would like one to join the Blue larger on I already have...

    I hope it's better than the twin Aero Commander. That thing would glitch all over the place in flight. Lots of them crashed right out of the box. Mine did. Took me three tries to get one that wouldn't kill itself inside of five flights. I love scale planes like this, but I won't be getting one. Horizon discontinues shit all the time and WAAAAYYYY too quickly. Just watch. This plane won't even be around in a year or even less, just like the Aero Commander and all the others. Think of all the scale UMX planes like this Horizon has had. I'll bet it's 50+. Right now they have six. It's always like that. They only have 5-10 in rotation for sale at a given time and when one is discontinued? Good luck on spare parts because they dry up very quickly. Forever.

      I sure wish they still had the two Bipes. The Beast and the Waco. It's the nature of the beast. Buy em, collect em, love em. They won't be around for long.

      @@nsbob70 Problem is you'll always need parts if they actually get flown. And, when those are gone? Especially the model specific parts like these props. It just wouldn't look right with some generic three bladed quad prop or whatever on it. Same goes for all the other "specialty" pieces. Same ol' story over and over.

      It was discontinued within hours of my purchase! I missed out on a couple due to procrastination! I'd love to have this plane...but just ordered a Voodoo....which is already on backorder! Even the micros are starting to stress my budget pricewise!

    • @whoknows8678
      @whoknows8678 Год назад +1

      @@stevenbaker9327 Absolutely and things like this is why Horizon hasn't been my #1 go to for anything in the hobby for many years. You should have seen the bullshit they pulled with Blade and helis/quads. That's getting into some real money there and the parts supply is even more critical since helis are generally much more maintenance intensive than airplanes, even with models. Every time I needed something, it was on backorder and then I'd check the overall model...discontinued... Many parts never became available again. Since around 2015, I've never bought another Horizon/Blade rotary winged anything again and I never will.
