Brian, your videos are clearly the best. Trust me, I watch'em all. Nobody does RC like you and your wife. Your format is perfect. Flight at the beginning, then the build & tech. Best of all is the length! Several hours is what we want - brilliant! Hope through viewer support you can do it full-time. Your videos make my day.
I agree
I'm so glad you enjoy them long, Ron! This is something that makes RUclips hate us, but I know our core audience really likes it ;)
I agree 100%
Just got my Twin Otter and setup, first bind had no issues with the ESCs. I then added differential thrust and when I bound again, ESCs did not want to arm, turned out to be throttle settings and my throttle cut combination...all working good now. AS3X and SAFE was working, sort of, my OFF setting was good and my SAFE setting was good, but no AS3X. On the second bind, AS3X started working except for the rudder movements. My latest bind, AS3X is working except for the elevator movements. The learning continues, oh yea, I really enjoy your video's. Happy to see the recent one for the FMS F-18.
Thanks!
Why were you setting up differential thrust? It's managed by the DUAL ESC. I don't even remember setting that part up...did you have a PNP???
@@BrianPhillipsRC I got the BNF. Thought the differential thrust would help during water taxi. I have no intention of using it during flight. The manual shows nothing for differential thrust, I found another guy did a radio setup for differential thrust. I would like reverse, but need smart ESCs for that...maybe another time I will switch out the eflite ESCs.
This was my #2 plane at the field today. And you are very correct on keeping the speed up. Definitely watch low speed with flaps on aileron turns.
Yes! Keep the nose pointed down!!!
For my really tight EC3 connectors I use a snap ring pliers or tool, it has 2 small pins at the end, when you squeeze the handles, it works the opposite of regular pliers and the small pins move outward. The pins I use are small enough, they are together, insert into EC3 gap, squeeze the handles and it pulls the EC3 apart. It's a delicate tool, pins part held on by springs, used gently it works great for stuck together EC3's.
nice! good idea!
Dude.. that is a picture perfect sunset! Careful,.. those are the sunsets planes ride off into 😅
Thanks, they sure are!!! I took a picture from behind the pond, facing the sunset the other day, it was AMAZING...wish I could share pictures here, but guess you'll have to wait for the next few videos over there ;)
Stunning cinematography!
Thanks!!!! Mother Nature was being VERY HELPFUL!!!
I just unboxed and built this plane. I had the same issue with the esc. Your video helped me solve the problem. I can't thank you enough. Keep up the fantastic work and great videos. Great job camera crew!
Glad we could help. Thanks for stopping in Lewis!
The new mics are perfect. No more of the fading and echo off the house. You get the full Brian.
AWESOME!!!
Flew the maiden flight of the twin otter tonight, was amazed how great it flew.😁
AWESOME!!! Did your tail have the bend like mine??? This was my only complaint on this beauty!
Go-to skydiving jump plane. You make flying look effortless.
Thanks, and agreed. A buddy of mine just jumped out of one the other day. He said their airspeed was 20mph FORWARD and only 10mph DOWN...so strange!!??!?!
I have found it helps to put a small spot of FOAM TAC at BALANCE point very easy to find.
Okay, then you have a bump to feel. I've done with with tape and CA, and hot glue alike, but anymore, I just stab the wing with a sharpie ;)
I love this plane and I love the new mics
We do to, thanks Lionel!!!
Brain where is the 90mm Viper? The wait is killing me :)
It's killing YOU?!!!? Coming hopefully this week.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Like a solenoglyphous to the neck.
If you notice the bobbing around while taxiing, it is cause by the foam tires are out of round.
True, this can happen too. I don't think I had flat spot YET, but totally agree.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Out of three sets of stock tires, 6 mains and 3 nose, I ended up with a single matched set that spin true. The manufacturing of the wheel tires is very poor quality control. And I am aware I'm picking nits.
Good job camera crew I guess. Look at 2:22. The stripes on the props makes me cry it's so good.
YES!!!!
Watching this makes me want to bring my twin otter out......of course I don't have the new smart receiver. Absolutely a great flyer. I feel like it's pretty easy to fly.
Still good, get it out!!!
Yes, it happened to my home on July 28th 2015, Lipo fire took out my home! I now charge on a fireproof surface. Have not had another issue with a Lipo battery! I was told that in the summer, 5 homes a week have a Lipo fire. Lets hope it's less now that people are more well informed!
The audio quality is great! Didn’t even notice anything till you mentioned the new mics 👍
AWESOME! That's what we're going for!!!
The fins on the wing you refer to are called (Wing Fences). They are different from Strakes. Cheers!
OHHHHH, AWESOME - Thanks! I've heard that before, now that you mention it, but I totally forgot.
Great plane sir sooo nice
I agree - it is amazing!
Looks like a sweet little plane. Reminds me a little of Bob Hoover and his Shrike Commander. I should add it to my list for sure! New Mics sound great! awesome work by the camera crew as usual.
I like it a lot!!!
Once again thank you to you and your wife for the time send entertaining us...a nother superb video...you videos makes my day
You're welcome Chris! Thanks for watching ;)
Sound is excellent! Thanks for the upgrade.
Glad you like it! We've been enjoying the easier time with our new mics too. They are a lot nicer, and we have FEEDBACK on the little Rode Receiver display!!! This is so helpful for us to KNOW we're getting signal.
Wow AMAZING LOOKING BACKGROUND SIR. LOVELY CAMERA WORK AS ALWAYS THANKS TO YOU BOTH 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ♥️💯👍🌞
Thanks Mike!
Wow. That plane is a beauty! So was that sunset 🌅
Thanks Keith, and AGREED!
Along with the scale arresting gear you'll inevitably install for those pretty warbirds, I can see some scale EMAS (engineered material arresting system) at the end of your driveway. I mean it would make the pilot look SOOOOOO much better. Kidding of course, thanks for the video. :)
LOL Then I can dig it out of the 6 foot snow pile ;) LOL
Yay! Great audio again to match the great video. That plane is on my list, but I'm not buying any more planes until I at least have time to maiden the several planes I already have assembled. 🛩
Not a bad plan Jack! Good news for you, the 3 or so "early" releases will be pre-order anyway when you first see them, coming any time now ;) LOL - sorry, I know - poking the bear ;) LOL
Good luck Jack! Get them out and fly them!!! It'll be winter before you know it!!!!!!!!!!!
I love that plane!! And the first landing was so smooth.
Thanks! It is a beauty, and flies the part very nicely!
It's not hard to tell your instruction, performance n video is well put together. Thanks for sharing:)
Thanks!
The United States Air force Academy uses this plane for parachute jumping training. It look great with Airforce markings.
Sure does! My friend just jumped out of one the other day ;)
We used to call those wing fences, when I was in the military. Others may know more though.
Nice!
Try some dry lube spray on your EC connectors. I use hornady dry gun lube but wd40 offers some that should work. It makes all the difference in the world
Will that break your connection? Isn't it Silicone?!??!! I'd be super careful if you're not 100% sure...and I'm NOT...so don't hear me wrong, but if you got the connector coated JUST right, you could be making a CAPACITOR out of your connector - that might be a very HOT connector if you're not careful ;)
Again, I'm not sure I'm even right, so might be talking out of turn here....
Silicone or petroleum products would be a huge concern so no apologies needed. I can't speak personally about the wd40 variant but the hornady one shot lube is non conductive, silicone free and polymer safe. Over 2 years using it with no issues whatsoever.
Great mike wonderful audio. Love the plane. Love the LEDs. Like you slip to landing.
Awesome Tim, thanks!
Awesome video thanks Brian and camera crew from South Africa
Thanks!!!!
Fantastic flying Brian. I want one of these very nice. Love the navigation lights. Absolutely awsome.
I agree!!!
Great looking plane
Agreed! Flies pretty good too ;)
THE SOUND IS PERFECT 👍
AWESOME! We're so glad to hear. You guys deserve the BEST, and we're trying HARD to deliver improvements to make the viewer experience better.
Awesome plane Love the Twin Otter
Nice flying Brian 🔥👍
Great job as always Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Thanks - we appreciate you Erric!
@@BrianPhillipsRC 🔥👍✌️
Always enjoy your videos Brian, must be nice to have a camera crew, She does a great job.
It is a blessing and a curse. I need her for "other things" too...so when I really need her for filming, sometimes I have to negotiate - LOL
I love my Twotter. Great scale plane and relaxing flights with it. But will fall out of the sky with full flaps.
It sure will! Gotta keep in the POWA ;)
I dislike Horizon's EC connectors. I'm transitioning all of mine to XT, as they're so much easier to plug & unplug.
IC's are AMAZING, EC's SUCK BADLY.
Now thats a thorough well done video .
Thanks!
Hallo Brian Great review, like always! I had the sane problem regarding the ESC Setup , you solved it perfect 👍🏻a huge thank you! I have a wrong aileron once as3s is active it over corrects into the wrong direction, plane goes to the left and as3x pushes the plane even harder to the left. Any ideas?
Did you get a BNF???? If so, then you need to hit up HORIZON HOBBY for a replacement...
If it's a PNP, and you went through FORWARD PROGRAMMING, then all you need to do is figure out what position the Receiver is showing up in you profile, and FIX IT. It's flipped in the wrong position. Go back through "FIRST TIME SETUP" for AS3X and SAFE, and you'll likely see your issue.
GREAT SKY
totally!
Nice video Is great channel Started watching your videos Couple months ago Was Into RC gas planes found them to much of Payne took the fun Out of RC flying now with the electric Hopefully going to be more enjoyable With batteries Have my private pilot's license don't fly much Is anymore purchased a horizon apprentice s thanks to you don't understand the battery concept yet nice property need strip ln back great place to fly 👍
Thanks Gene! Glad you're here with us, and hope you'll be with us for a while. Electric planes are awesome, since the lipo is so powerful, and so much less of a mess and trouble compared to gas.
New microphones sound great! 👍
AWESOME - So glad the HEAR this ;) It was a relief to be able to get the audio quality back up. Wish we wouldn't have been SOOOOOOOOO busy right when we started having issues!!!
Thanks for hanging in there while we fixed the issue.
lights are very bright, plane looks awesome. Video was awesome good job to both of you you make it look great. Would have loved to see some lightning lol. Maybe a 3rd plane waiting on the EVO along with upgraded battery for NX8 lol cant have it all hit bank account at once.
I agree -lightning would have been so cool!
I have this plane two.
AWESOME!
Your mikes are perfect another informative video keep up the good work you two.
Thanks Kelvin!
Hey Brian, I hope all is well. I was wondering if you were going to do a review of the Xfly Twin Otter?
We would like to do it, but haven't yet figured out the details with XFly and one of their distributors. I WANT to cover this plane and other XFly offerings, as we HAD been in the past, but our previous relationship more or less got blown up by XFly making a move to another distributor, and we ended up unwittingly being cut out of that. This all happened a while back, so it's pretty frustrating. We like the XFly brand, but we're pretty disappointment in some of their corporate decisions, and hope they come to their senses, since our audience wants to see our reviews too... What a bummer!
Yea that does suck. I really want that plane but i want to help support your channel, so i'll try to wait for your review. And just a friendly heads up, that fly alpha looks awsome with a afterburner kit.@BrianPhillipsRC
Excellent
Agreed!!!! Thanks ;)
Good stick!
Thanks!
Hey Brian, have you ever built either a B1 Lancer Bomber or a B2 Spirit Bomber those would be really cool to see
I haven't done either, but would LOVE to do a B1 - used to see them at air shows as a kid, and SOOOOO COOL would that be!!!
Good stuff as usual!
The mics are sounding great.
Thanks, we've been hearing this feedback. Huge relief
Have you looked into the umx yak-54? I just got it and it’s really great for aerobatics and is suuuuper slow.
I haven't got it on my list, but I'm aware of it.
Between this and the cirrus sr22t which one in your opinion is better. Scale wise the sr22t I think is but flying
This plane is very different in many ways. Twin, and smaller to scale, but they are both excellent planes!
bprc.me/TwinOtter
bprc.me/CirrusSR22T
If you want a more simple plane, the Cirrus SR22T would be the one for you, but both are excellent! If you need another "tie breaker" what about water ops? The Twin will do floats, while the Cirrus will not.
Great review, as always! We love our E-flite Twin Otter too!
Nice flying
Thanks!
Nice flying
Thanks Frank!
Nice aircraft…..great job Brian.
Thanks!
I know because it can fly on water, but when flying with landing gear there are no ventilation holes to keep battery and esc cooler. Am I just being picky about the warmth or has someone else experienced this and fixed it?
I haven't had any issues, but if in doubt, just make a few holes and then you don't have to worry. You could also use one of those lazer thermometers that you can get for the kitchen, and see how hot things are getting....
...something like this... amzn.to/3JtEu2c ...then you can make a decision before cutting up the plane.
nice on water 2
Can't wait to see this!
Hello Brian master is return😁🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Master Steel!!! Long time, no see - Welcome home ;)
I'm looking to get back into the hobby and flying more seriously with a club this year. 15 years ago I was a teenager and just flew a powered glider around my school football field.
Is there any thoughts you have about a beginner getting a twin engine plane as their first plane? My reasons for this are:
1: straight up, I do not have the $ to buy multiple $300 CAD planes lol. But also
2. equally important, I like the twin otter because the motors are raised vs single engines which are right at the nose. Less chance for damage is what my thought process is.
That being said, is a 2 engine more variable/ unpredictable for a beginner to handle? I can't imagine it would be much different than a single engine but would like to know your thoughts as you seem to be very knowledgeable here! Cheers! Happy new subscriber here
If you were flying 15 years ago, can I suggest you just get a RTF (Ready to Fly) and see what you think of it, given there's so many great RTF options these days, and when and if you agree that it's amazing (which you will), then you can get a proper programmable transmitter (you can use it for all your planes now...unlike 15 years ago).
Here's my suggestions for RTF planes...

Bigfoot 1.3m RTF - bit.ly/30mYdOq - ruclips.net/p/PLXTH0DstRDc7elVLLXihkLRs_J4QQ0Hm-
Pioneer 620mm RTF - bit.ly/2YotgbY - ruclips.net/p/PLXTH0DstRDc5DZarP-qgPO3IEliNvnPuP
If you want to skip the "RTF" and go straight to the Twin Otter, I must warn you, you could pick a lot easier to fly plane. It's not a bad flying plane, but it's not the easiest plane form Horizon Hobby.
Twin Otter bit.ly/2OnOuBQ
Tx bit.ly/3f4JhZl (Get the NX8 without the receiver....you won't want that style that comes in the package deal)
3S Lipos bit.ly/3jacVj8
S2200 bit.ly/398ohO6
Good luck, and we're here for you if you decide to take the plunge, but you will thank me later if you go with one of the RTF choices from above first.
Where's your video of this plane in the water?
We don't have one yet - sorry!!!
Hey Brian, I see HH released a UMX Twin Otter, I'm surprised y'all didn't get one to review?
We sure did! If you missed the notification, you can check out the video here...

Great plane!
Hey I have a question. So I have the Horizon Carbon Cub S ready to fly kit. And I’ve been looking at buying the twin otter. If I bought just the twin otter, could I bind the controller and use the battery and charger that came with the Carbon Cub S?
You can, but won't have all the features. I would VERY HIGHLY recommend getting an NX8 if you plan to get more than a couple planes. You CAN do some cool things with the DXS, but it's a lot harder, and many features you'll want just don't exist....like EXPO, Dual Rates, Flaps to Elevator Correction, mixing, etc....
I have a question for you, my esc is fast beeping and will not run the motors
Get your throttle well below -100%...sometimes they won't arm without -130%. Might need to setup the throttle cut by the book to -130%... sorry for my super slow replay...behind right now bad!
Hello Brian, great video. I hope you can help. When I turn safe mode on the controls are all reversed. Engaging SAFE. Just makes the situation worse. Any ideas to help. Thank you in advance. Wayne
The v1 Verona was the first video I scared form you, a long time since
Did auto-correct strike again, or am I missing something...
@@BrianPhillipsRC yep
@@BrianPhillipsRC what I said was that the v1 version was the first video I watched form u guys a lot has come hasn’t it.
Great PLANE BRIAN.
totally!
Hey I have the DX6e and having some troubles. After hours of trying to bind and set up my tx to my otter, I finally got it after contacting the company I bought it from. Seemed to be setup correctly and taxi’d straight. Took off (mild breeze) and it just rolled right and crashed. Now I have a real loud fan noise and it seems to be coming from my rudder servo. Could a small crash (low speed low altitude) cause servo damage enough to do this? If so I guess I just need to replace the servo?
Great video. What camera do you use for the video?
Samsung Galaxy S9 Cell Phone...
...formerly, S7, S5, S3
I have this plane and i absolutly love it.
However, i have an issue with the flaps and since the manual talks about adjusting after different spectrum radio's, it becomes somewhat different when i'm using a Hitec radio.
It litterary nosedives when i put on the flaps, so would i be right in having less flaps and mixing in some elevator when activating flaps?
If so, about how much you think?
Didn't buy the BNF package but the one where you have to provide your own Rx and Tx.
Flap to elevator mix is a must on many plane. Go for it. Also, a longer delay in flap deployment can help with the transition in wing shape, thus allowing the plane to slow down to an appropriate speed so as not to balloon or dive quite as bad.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks man, I'll give it a shot
Can the floats be used in snow. We get about a foot of snow. Thanx
yes, very fun!
Thank you. This is my next plane. I am ordering it next week. Can not wait. I live in the high Colorado mountains and we have daily constant winds. I do get a little time at dusk when the winds calm. I do like the night flying with the lights. I watch your videos all the time. Great info you give. Makes choosing next planes a lot easier. For some reason the links you state for us to click on so you can get credit does not show up. Seams like utube changed thier format. The comment section moved to the area where you had the links. Thank you again.
It looks good when you fly next to the moon I like the night timber X better then this because it has beautiful light when you fly at Night.
Sounds like you need to get one ;)

Oh thank you
How do I tell if I’m buying version 2? Or old stock?
Buy from my link and then there's no question.

yes, sorry Luis!
Hi Brian. After watching this video last night, I decided to take my new Twin Otter out for the second time this morning. Unfortunately, on the second flight of the day (and fourth overall), the rudder servo locked up while full left. I attempted to land it, but failed and crashed. I contacted Horizon Hobby and they said to send it back and they will evaluate if it was defective out of the box. If so, then they will repair or replace it for free. But I have a bad feeling about this. I'm worried that I am going to have to pay for expensive shipping (at least $100) only for them to tell me I am on the hook for the repairs given that I'd flown it before. So, as an experienced pilot, I wanted to get your opinion. Do you think HH will do the right thing here or could I be up [excrement] creek?
I would never accept such terrible terms. I've gone round and round with them, and I almost always got what I needed... Nowadays, I can't say I'm in the same situation, so when I call, if I need too (which I HAVE, btw) they pretty much take care of us. This is a tough one. If you had 3 good flight, why on the 4th?
I get the YAW was terrible, with full LEFT. Too bad you couldn't slip it in at near full throttle ;(
Either way, sounds like they want YOU to roll the dice. I can't say what I would do... I totally KNOW the feeling.
You could just call again? Hope for a better experience??? If they have your information already down, you're probably screwed ;/
Sorry Mark - I absolutely HATE when this happens.
P.S. On the brighter side, if it were Hobbyking, we'd know what the answer would be - LOL ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I will try calling them again. But like you said, this is going to be a roll of the dice. I'm not much of a gambler, so I'll probably just repair it myself. Already found a replacement nose gear with its own dedicate servo that I would like to install. Thank you for the advice!
Does it have reverse thruste
The V2 has it. bprc.me/TwinOtter
Hey Brian can I use a 4s battery on this llane
Sorry, looks like only 3S as I understand.
I run a 2600 3s from admiral 7 min easy , flys better with a slight amount of flaps
True.
