  • The pace of inflation has slowed in recent months, but that doesn’t mean that sticker shock has stopped for Canadians.
New Ipsos polling done exclusively for Global News shows 83 per cent of people across Canada say their weekly grocery bill has increased in the last six months.
More than a third say their weekly grocery bill has increased by up to $50 in the last six months. A quarter say it has increased between $51 and $100.
    Global’s Anne Gaviola has more.

I have to cash myself out at the grocery store, bag my own groceries - with bags I had to bring from home - and return my buggy to a usually inconvenient spot just to get my coin back from it... All while paying increased prices everywhere I shop. And all these grocers say they're not gouging or falsely inflating anything. Don't tell me you're making up for COVID sales losses, because you were one of the only kind of shops allowed to be open through the whole thing! Even when supply was delayed or low - you were earning.
Canadian food stores banked *six billion* dollars profit in 2023, all while claiming they were offering fair prices and hadn't fixed the market.
You've laid off cashiers, but didn't hire me to do it, yet still I am. I think every self-checkout should come with at least a 5% discount for you doing the work yourself. After all Metro, Loblaws/Superstore, No Frills (remember when they were the cheap one???), Sobeys, Longo's, Food Basics, et al - you have $6,000,000,000 lying around.

People skip meals daily, some goes days without eating. People are going to food banks in record numbers never seen before. Security guards patrol grocery stores because of people stealing. Yet in Trudeau’s mind Canada isn’t broken. People shouldn’t have to go without meals, food is a basic human right. It’s a necessity. All the grocery stores care about is how much they can gouge consumers for everyday items. I don’t know how those ceos sleep at night. They should be ashamed of themselves. Resign Trudeau, even a whipped dog knows when it’s not wanted. Canada is broken Trudeau, and you’re the one who broke it.
