Walmart's 4th quarter earnings were better than they forecasted. Yet they are cutting part time worker hours in their stores right now! In states like Massachusetts, where Health insurance is mandatory, these part-time associates have to buy health insurance, or be covered under someone else's. @missingno81 cloth bag 3 packages of meat. I live in California talk about high prices. I guess New York has it beat. Could've been worse. Whole Foods would've been 130.
Prices are going up because of corporate greed. It has nothing to do with inflation whenever they want to control the public they increase the prices, layoff people, and then we have a recession or depression, along with a war.
@Lemons19902010 debt is an illusion, I just file for bankruptcy and use credit cards again, just keep that cycle going and you will be ahead, believe me!
I have a stockpile 4 years worth of toilet paper, papertowel, toothbrushes and 5 years worth glad garbage bag liners. If you know how to coupon, you will only end up paying less and just taxes.
Because we continue to pay the prices. They will lower them when no one pays. But people aren't willing to boycott. Everyone just stop buying processed crap for a couple months and everything will adjust.
FYI. I have relatives who work for grocery stores. Corporate has stated they aren’t going to lower prices. Their wholesale prices have gone down, but they’re planning to keep prices the same or higher and pocket the extra money.
@@nancyadams9228 Hate to burst the bubble but ALDI is feeling the heat, too. I usually always aim for ALDI or even Market Basket (Regional grocery chain) and their prices have gone up, too. @@ryder4508Yep. Which is silly because when you get into the logistics of large food entities, the market and the suppliers...nothing is "simple" about supply and demand.
I was saying this yesterday when only a handful of companies swallow up small to mid size companies, they control production and pricing without competition....we lose as consumers in both quality and higher pricing.
Get serious. The actual reason is there is almost no competition left in the grocery industry. It's as simple as that. But they don't want you to know that.
Want to know the real reason? You might want to sit down for this. I worked at a high tech company that specialized in helping grocery stores increase their profits. They did this by using data they collect from your club card purchases. Using this data, they calculate the optimal price. Gone are the days of 99 cents. Today, it’s $1.03 or $1.12. They know what price you will pay. They know what price you won’t. Even you don’t know what is happening. So yea, we know it’s more expensive than before but we haven’t gotten to the point that we just don’t buy. They won’t let us get there.
Imagine not buying alcohol or cigarettes, not eating out, not paying for streaming services, not buying new clothes and not buying new phones. That's my situation with me and my husband. Hospital bills.
They're not getting creative, they are trying to survive and won't live long with low cost processed food. Why not do a story on why the grocery stores are charging so much when they have had the highest profits in history - talk about greed vs humanity. Smh.
Do you realize how percentages work? The margins are the same, when costs go up profit also goes up to keep the same percentage of profit thus as inflation occurs the flat total number goes up higher than it was before while the margins remain stagnant. Therefore the profits aren't the highest in history the dollars just have the lowest value in history. The problem isn't greed it's the endless printing of money that the government is addicted to that's causing the problem but you expect the providers in our society to fall on their swords so you don't have to deal the consequences of government mismanagement
Yes, what the first person who responded to your comment is correct. Just to add onto it, prices are set by supply and demand. The increased money supply means the demand increases which results in higher prices. This is how prices have always been set. Its not a coincidence that prices have risen greatly as inflation has risen greatly. They go hand in hand.
Exactly. All the “buy three for $” are a trap to get you to spend more money and make ppl feel like they are saving money but not really because you’re paying more and you only came to buy one and now you’ve purchased three. Classic sales trick
I wish more people understood that. If you already don't like buying a bunch of processed stuff, coupons aren't the answer. There's no coupons for fresh foods.
Frankly I need half a box of cold cereal to feel full which cost $2.47 (includes milk). I do better nutrition and cost wise to eat almost any other homemade food. Compare cereal to veg fried rice or baked beans on top of a baked potato, etc.
Agreed, I haven't bought cereal in YEARS....there is practically no nutritional value in it, it's not filling and it has become expensive in my country compare that to oats or eggs which are so much cheaper, satisfying and healthier
The ceo has the audacity to say that even after how dangerous levels of chemicals these cereals contain??!!? For me!! I'm completely avoiding cereals all together!! And advise my friends and fam to do so!! Let them feed all cereals as much they want to their own families!!! And children!!
I've learned to make large quantities of simple casseroles, chili, mac 'n cheese then freezing portions for later meals and even baking my own bread in order to cut the cost of meals. For other things I substitute with less expensive fare, like oatmeal rather than sugary cereals or chocolate chips to snack on rather than chocolate candy bars.

@@p.mckenzie2921I’m a chef. And I have a lot of experience. Two weeks that’s fine. About a month tops for fresh made foods frozen. The better you store it the better it will last.
@@p.mckenzie2921 - I was using the Rubbermaid 'Take-Along' plastic (throw-away) containers with the red plastic lids to freeze then microwave in, but apparently they changed the plastic type because what use to be good for several freeze/microwave cycles now only survives once, so I spent the money and replaced them with Pyrex glass storage (2 & 4-cup) with silicone lids. Much happier with the freeze/microwave results (even the lids microwave well as compared to other brands). - Back to the original question. It takes at least a month to use up the chili batch I freeze. We are also seeing high theft and management turning a blind eye . It's getting out of hand for employees.
@OJGamingYT I get that too. Some people's professions make more than enough to afford food. Other more admirable professions where people save lives, make much less.

What monopoly? You think company's randomly jacked prices up at the exact same time we experienced record levels of monetary expansion? The same top businesses now were the same businesses years ago. If they wanted to jack prices up they'd have done it day 1 of them opening up business. It's because of supply and demand. This is how you get creative: cook rice and beans, add some meat. It's like magic: cheap and nutritious. Pasta with sauce is another thing that works like magic and saves you money.
My husband and I have lived on a fixed income for years due to him being disabled. We hardly ever go out to eat. I cook a lot of meals from scratch and I can usually make a dinner for a family of four for about $10 or less. I keep a pantry socked with non perishable essentials that can keep our family fed for about 6 months. Such as canned goods, rice, pasta, flour and sugar. (This is very helpful in the winter when it's harder to get out) I make lots of casseroles, stir fries, and other recipes where I can cut down on the amount of meat to use in order to save money. I also use powdered milk and buy spices in bulk and make my own spice blends (like taco seasoning and ranch seasoning)
It's just so stupid when people blame food prices on Biden, are you really that isolated that you don't watch any foreign news outlets at all? The price of groceries is up everywhere, there are only a few big corporations that run the food supply chain. Try watching Ion news and get off of Fox.
The real problem is : Wages not keeping up with the rise in cost of living . As The US Dollar decreases in value the prices of everything must rise , but one area of the situation is not following at the same rate and that is wages . The economy would not be as bad if wages went up because people would have money to spend . In the 1950s a family with 2 children could have a nice home and a car plus a pension and benefits with just 1 full time paycheck at a local factory or store , and they could still afford 1-2 weeks vacation every year . Over time , as businesses started getting really big places like Sears lobbied to get part time employment laws changed and BAM !!! pensions in the private sector started to disappear so that Stock Holders could see a higher profit margin , next they went after benefits like health insurance , after that they went after wages . Companies celebrated an employee who stayed with the company for many years back then , now they don't care about you or the service that they give the public just as long as they can show more profit . What they don't understand is : if people don't have money to spend the economy will go right down the tubes just like back in the late 30s .
People will still spend more even if their wages increase. We have to fix our behavior with money first. . Ever heard of little money, little problems and big money, big problems? People need to live on less than they make, get rid of debt ( might have to pick up a side job/ hustle to get it paid off), actual budget and plan. Then when the debt is paid off and you have some extra money please don’t create new debt.

During covid, everything went up, and consumers were paying for it. Why would corporation want to lower the price now if they knew we were paying for the higher price all along.
It's not mere "creativity," it's actually just relying on the old ways of life to survive 😬 Finding cheaper ways to get roughly the same nutrition (rice & beans over meat for protein), keeping a tight thought-out budget (planning meals a month in advance), keeping home gardens, and making sure you don't buy excess ("checking their pantries so they're not buying duplicates" & "they're only buying what they really need") is not some new modern phenomenon.
Breakfast for dinner is a good idea occasionally. There are omelets, scrambled eggs with potatoes, pancakes with fruit and eggs, and french toast. These are still nutritional and are much cheaper than meat. There are also soups and salads eg. a cobb salad is very filling.
Walmart marked down to 50 cents French bread at the back of the store, one carton of eggs 2.75 here. We are all set for dinner, we don't use syrup, if we did we would make our own out of boiled sugar water. We are an older couple we don't worry about nutrition all the time, belly is full go to bed.

Spend money on good quality raw ingredients and make your own meals. Spend on good quality food or spend on doctors, your choice. Cereal, bread, pasta, desserts, soda, high processed foods, packaged foods - none of that is good for you. Don't eat that crap. Your body will thank you. You rarely see coupons for actual food - coupons for a dozen eggs? Nope.
I grew up on the poverty line, and we were dependent on food banks, food stamps, and my mom's disability checks. It's insane to me that I'm 30 and working a salaried position with what should be decent pay, but I still have to ration out my grocery expenses each month. We shouldn't be living like this.
Aldi is NOT, "discount". Used to be, sure...isn't, now. Walmart is, in many cases, less expensive...and I very much do not approve of Walmart, but won't get into why. The best way to keep prices in check is to not buy things...any things...that are becoming too expensive, but it must be done in large numbers and therein lies the problem!
Yep try not to feed the greed. I diy my own stuff as much as possible versus paying high prices I utilize coupons and sales. Make my own dang mayo, pickles, broth, dry mixes, soups, sauces, dressings, and ECT. If it's too much it sets on the shelf or I see who has it cheaper or figure out replacements ECT. We've always shopped around sales utilizing store cards and coupons. I keep a working pantry and when stuff is on sale we stock up as much and as cheaply as possible. As someone else mentioned casseroles, anything to stretch your meal. No aversions to eating or freezing leftovers. We make our own sausage breakfast and Italian with on sale roast or ground meat. Got fruit on sale this past evening five pounds of apples and dehydrated them and four pounds of strawberries also dehydrated half. Last time I got strawberries I made jam twice, to put a dollop in homemade yogurt or my muffin mix. We do a lot of our own baking too. We never eat out. We've cut back on everything well before everyone had to. Heck we were social distancing from people before it even was a thing. It's weird in a way, we were ahead of all this before it happened. Being frugal has kinda been a way of life for us a game almost. Last evenings groceries were a 72% savings. We spent $42.00 at that store we got five 30.6 oz Maxwell house coffees, two 18 count eggs, ten pounds of potatoes, five pounds apples, four pounds strawberries and two Cornish hens. He bought two loaves of bread elsewhere where it was cheaper.
Duh ! This makes news ? It’s how I ,and a lot of my friends, have always shopped. My advice is stay away from prepared and processed foods. Be prepared to make your own meals. Going out to eat - even fast food, should be an occasional treat. Kick the soda and chips - and cereal! ( there’s nothing wrong with oatmeal or peanut butter and banana on toast for breakfast. )…….😊
Majority of people are selfishly throwing food away. The unsustainable food waste also contributes to climate change and inflation on groceries. If people stop wasting food and start being more economical and conscious on what to spend, not to waste, and not to overconsume on material things, this crisis will balance itself.
Cheap crockpot burritos 1 cup dried rice 1 cup dried black beans 1 cup chunky salsa 1 oz package of taco seasoning 2 chicken bouillon cubes 4 cups of water Soak rice and beans overnight and drain and add to the crockpot stir in the other ingredients and cook on high for 4 hours Scoop into large tortillas and top with cheese and roll it up Recipe will make 8 burritos
@farmtoplate123 Sweetheart, my health comes first and foremost. I mix up my own taco seasoning as everyone should who is on a budget and concerned about their health. I also make my own chicken bone broth, which is much more flavorful and healthier, containing protein and collagen. If you are on that tight of a budget and want a versatile complete protein, get yourself some quonia and use it in place of rice. Much higher nutrientional profile. Just make sure to rinse it very well before cooking to get rid of bitterness. I would use cheese wraps in place of tortilla shells to cut carbs, up protein, and save a step with shredding cheese. Very few people in the US have missed a meal.
I do this in the oven ..but black beans , brown rice, corn and mozzarella cheese on a whole wheat tortilla .rolled in burrito. .dipped in salsa after it comes out of the oven
I make the same ones however, I leave out the black beans replace them with red beans, taco seasoning homemade due to salt level, no bouillon cubes. Sometimes I add lentils for extra protein. No salsa, some home grown frozen tomatoes. I don't worry about carbs, I worry about who is going hungry that night. We make them roll them up, freeze them on a cookie sheet and after frozen put them in a zip lock bag.
I prefer to grow as much food as I can for convenience, sustainability, and taste. Almost everyone can grow something, or regrow grocery produce like green onions and romaine lettuce at home near a window sill.
I spent less than $20.00 a couple days ago on groceries. I spend less than $200 a month on groceries and hygiene products. Something not even a $100. What's the secret? I started prepping 2 years ago. When I run low on a item, I get that item. I also get things on sale.
I’m a chef, I used to plan all my meals out ahead of time and buy whatever was on my list. I can’t do that anymore. I have to see what items are on sale and shop accordingly.
True. I quit buying Chobani yogurt when it was nearly doubling in price. Then only buy again when it was back to the near normal price. Get generics in the meantime. I think more folks need to pay attention, not just grab stuff, and vote with their dollars.
People are creatures of habit. They pick up the same 99% of things they always do regardless of price. I now keep a freezer and pantry list and buy on sale. Then I reverse meal plan with the things I already have, adding in items. I definitely notice a change when I’m keeping tabs on my grocery budget versus when I’m not.
I have clipped coupons for 50 years for food and dining out. I check two grocery stores daily for markdown food and non-food items like pet food for 4 cats. This is also something I've done for many years even when I worked. I'm able to buy steaks chicken roast pork chops about anything I want. About 3 months ago I bought 12 jars of 24 oz Ragu spaghetti sauce dated till the end of this year for $.57 a jar /corn chex cereal $.60 a box I don't eat a lot of cereal so bought 3 I could go on and on but the main thing I'm trying to say if people change their shopping habits food can be very affordable. When my children were young we used to have breakfast for supper twice a week just because they didn't have time before school for a big breakfast and they were happy with that ( no vegetables ) so start thinking outside of the box about the type of food you can serve
Some younger people don't know how to shop like this they want processed foods or there fresh fruits and veggies not in season. They have no idea that their mom kept a pantry or had extra food stashed back. They see a sale and believe it's a true sale then buy one, not us we double check to make sure it's a real sale, then buy 12 to 24. We know there are 52 weeks in a year and how many times a week we are going to have that item. We have done the math, we are unashamed to buy cases of veggies while they are on sale. We just filled our freezer with marked down chicken at 77 cents a pound, yep we are eating chicken, but at least we are eating.
Grocery Outlet is THE BEST grocery store to go to. You can get food that is expensive in other places for a small fraction of the price. I always leave Grocery Outlet with a FULL grocery cart of GOOD stuff and I don't even spend $100. They have so many snacks and foods for $1, $1.50 and $2. I really hope they'll continue to keep their low prices.
Took my husband for outpatient surgery an hour away from the house and afterwards when he was able to eat we went to First Watch. We each had eggs, toast, potatoes and coffee. With a tip, almost $40. We could have made the same meal at home literally for $5 for both of us, if even that much. I know they have overhead and they have inventory and employees so I get the price will be higher, but that much higher?
If you have to do that again, make breakfast burritos at home the night before. Get a small insulated bag and reheat them after the surgery. The hospital may have areas with a microwave that you could use.
We need to a few things to voice our concerns. 1. Only buy essentials. That includes no cereals, chips, cookies, etc. your waistline will thank you for it 2. Dine out less and if you do visit your ma and pa shop 3. If you absolutely dont need it, dont buy it. We...have to change how we live and that will "help" change corporations market products and prices to us.
I would never go to the local hospital for food, I used to work as a janitor and cleaned those nasty places. You would think they would be cleaner they are not they are nastier. In states like Massachusetts, where Health insurance is mandatory, these part-time associates have to buy health insurance, or be covered under someone else's.
Those that have to buy it, the cost is about $500.00 a month, just for health insurance!

How is any of that creative? Why can’t these corporations get creative on how to be affordable
When you say breakfast for dinner, I'm not thinking boxed cereal. I'm thinking pancakes or waffles, omelet, biscuit and gravy, bacon, you know, Food!
I spent less than $20.00 a couple days ago on groceries. I spend less than $200 a month on groceries and hygiene products. Something not even a $100. What's the secret? I started prepping 2 years ago. When I run low on a item, I get that item. I also get things on sale.
I live in CA I brought cookies , milk gallon , bread , ham bag of chips and my total came out to be $80 this is crazy out of control
THE ABSOLUTE DISCONNECT is unreal.🤡🤡
Yes to the CEO of Kelloggs I am 59 and work and eat cereal for dinner. But not yours! Yours is too expensive.
I’m a chef, I used to plan all my meals out ahead of time and buy whatever was on my list. I can’t do that anymore. I have to see what items are on sale and shop accordingly.
Too many people are paying the high prices, or else they wouldn't be able to get away with it.
Not like people can grow all their own food or have farms anymore. People have to eat.
Rice, bean, potatoes. Sugar for desert.
I have clipped coupons for 50 years for food and dining out.
I check two grocery stores daily for markdown food and non-food items like pet food for 4 cats. This is also something I've done for many years even when I worked. I'm able to buy steaks chicken roast pork chops about anything I want. About 3 months ago I bought 12 jars of 24 oz Ragu spaghetti sauce dated till the end of this year for $.57 a jar /corn chex
cereal $.60 a box I don't eat a lot of cereal so bought 3 I could go on and on but the main thing I'm trying to say if people change their shopping habits food can be very affordable.
I started shopping at Walmart again the prices at Publix and Kroger is ridiculous.
i wouldnt get tooo excited ...wlmt is not much better.
Is that a chain restaurant?
Look for locally owned when possible
Do a quick goggle search
If you have to do that again, make breakfast burritos at home the night before. Get a small insulated bag and reheat them after the surgery. The hospital may have areas with a microwave that you could use.
Hospital cafeterias will have microwaves for you to use........not only that, but the prices are really good.
I tried doing cereal for dinner but milk was too expensive so yeah not going to do that sticking with white rice and eggs😅
As my wife would say, "We're working for the toilet".
She has a good point
😂😂😂 I hadn't thought of it that way, but it is the truth!
Which is why I eat once a day. Less work for my body, less work for the toilet. And the air 🤣
We need to a few things to voice our concerns.
1. Only buy essentials. That includes no cereals, chips, cookies, etc. your waistline will thank you for it
2. Dine out less and if you do visit your ma and pa shop
3. If you absolutely dont need it, dont buy it.
We...have to change how we live and that will "help" change corporations market products and prices to us.
Instead of going to fast food places and restaurants, go to hospital cafeterias. They have full meals for under $5, sometimes with a drink.☺️
That’s a fact !!
My local hospital does not have cheap meals. You’re going to spend airport prices there.
Not in Central Illinois you're going to pay restaurant prices or higher
Same not affordable
I would never go to the local hospital for food, I used to work as a janitor and cleaned those nasty places. You would think they would be cleaner they are not they are nastier. The health department will not close them down nor, do they fine them. I've been is some that had cockroaches all over the place. This was not an inner city place it's a smaller regional hospital, if I have to go into the hospital people will be bringing me my food from the outside.
Solution: cook more, eat less meat. You can buy a 25lb bag of whole grain for $45, delivered. That's a lot. Buy big bags of frozen veggies.
where are ya shopping? Inquiring minds wanna know. tyia!
*I like to snack on walnuts and almonds. If you buy them in the snack aisle by the jerky and planters peanuts, they are expensive! Go to the baking section! They sell them for half as much! They are usually even better tasting!
many people should think about buying a bread machine..I only use it to mix the dough and bake it in my regular oven..I also use it to make pizza dough and have a few extra in the refrigerator ready to make a pizza for a snack at night..I make bread crumbs and use my left over spices to use them up as a topping on casseroles....or baked pasta.....
You can do a no knead bread ,recipe for Artisan bread, recipe on RUclips, you don't even need a bread machine
I just make steam buns. Really easy and customizable. I use cupcake wrappers to keep them from sticking to the wood
Bread machines are tempting
But every person I know that had one ended up with diabetes
I can’t risk that. I know my family history
Buy a kitchen aid mixer instead. Same function plus several more.
Before buying a NEW breadmaker, check out the local charity shops and food banks. MUCH cheaper and you usually can bargain. The food bank in my town always has about 15 breadmakers for sale. People donate them.
Food inflation is a global phenomenon, not just a US phenomenon.
Just eat cereal for dinner -Kelloggs CEO
Gotti CEO
I work at a thrift store for a living so cereal for dinner is normal not for the middle class.
We need to investigate meat processing plants and dairy post covid Price gouging
Cereal is expensive but unprocessed food like oats and cream of wheat or a piece of toast and fruit are not expensive.
Um , I think fruit is expensive 🥺
This is just out of control…Busting hours …food prices, electric bills rent I could go on and on. I never thought I would see the day where you had to make choices with food.😡 the gift that keeps on giving !
Eggs and cereal are crazy expensive now. Checking the price per ounce (fine print shown in price tags) really help. For cereal, I aim for less than .20 cents per ounce and there are store brand cereals for .11 cents an ounce.
Eggs while expensive are a good source of protein. Cereal no matter how the jazz up the label is not good for you as a occasional treat or a desperation meal yeah but stick with the eggs. I do 2 boiled eggs for breakfast everyday with coffee. I'm a adult but kids might like them scrambled with cheese and a slice of toast and if it's in the budget turkey or regular bacon slices. My husband and I use to do breakfast for dinner every so often just to change things up a little. Anna In Ohio
Our egg prices have come back down to normal (Ohio), but cereal, cheeses, butter, produce - all very high
@@kelleyspears1218 interesting! In CA, the egg prices went back down briefly and then jumped back up again. I used to always get a pack of 60ct medium eggs for 8 dollars and now they are 20 bucks (sometimes 25).
Its sooo funny how farmers warned us this was coming 2 years ago... while they were forced to throw out tons of food..
To those who never had to worry about this and now are… welcome to “the struggle is real” life like the rest of us. I been doing this since I was little so these tactics are nothing new, gotta improvise when you living pay to pay check 🤷🏽♂️
Yep. People complaining now clearly missed a few key points. The tariff war with China that raised prices and hurt the farmers. Supply chain disruption of Covid. Crop failures. Abs good old fashion corporate price gouging.
THIS!
Mac n cheese top ramen valveeta homemade spaghetti homemade hambugers and hot dogs meatloaf my old friends have never left me. 😅😂im 37 and refuse to bow down to greed over laziness
Yup i prep cook clean take trash out but i dont have to tip or use a coupon. saves me lots of money
Most cereals are too sweet. Kids will rampage especially at night. Name brand prices are too high so I go to Aldi LIDL instead of Costco. German Euro brands tend to contain less sugar.
so glad I spent $300 on a 10 foot chest freezer. lots of frozen meals. vegan and frozen veggies.
I've had to cut back significantly on what I'm buying food wise as well. Something has to be done about these rising costs.
The last time they tried to hold companies accountable for the insanely high prices was with oil, abs republicans block the bill that would have helped bring gas prices down
The Kellogg’s CEO really said “LET THEM EAT CAKE “ wow
I’d like to see that CEO eating cereal for his dinner!
Nah he eating big boy filet mignon
I’ve been shopping Aldi’s and I feel like my money goes further shopping there.
Just eat once or twice a day. Intermittent fasting is also good for your health as long as you eat the same portion for each meal.
Shoppers get creative! Can these people be more out of touch!!!!
I get a cardboard tray from the produce section, fill it with only absolute necessities and my bill was like $300 for the month but I also eat gluten free food which is beyond ridiculous to start with.
Dining on a Dime has a from scratch gluten free cookbook. She is very frugal. She has some free you tube recipes too.
Package size is getting smaller. Including cereal. But we aren’t getting any value. Food is becoming more unhealthy.
