I wonder what hardcore vocalists sound like when they sing lullabies to their kids at night. Is it like LAY YOUR HEAD UPON THE PILLOW!!! / CAST ASIDE YOUR CONSCIOUS MIND!!! / LET YOUR WEARY THOUGHTS UNWIND NOW!!! / WHILE THE STORMS STILL RAGE OUTSIDE!!! etc. etc.?
I remember listening to this over and over, years ago, in my darkest moment, standing on the precipice of suicide. Clinging to the lyrics for the tiniest shred of comfort and hope, for the feeling of shared understanding and suffering from another human being. I even made a part of it my ringtone and alarm so I would wake to the sound of Dreyer screaming defiantly at me to live, live, live. Some things haven't changed much since then, but some things have changed so much. I turn back to this song now, for hope and comfort again, but it's also, to my relief, something I enjoy but don't NEED anymore. I don't need it to keep breathing anymore. I guess I'm just here to say I kept my head up, that I sat upon the throne of hope and sang a song of trying. So thank you, thank you.
this so .. is a reflection of my failed relationships with the women i have loved.. and been loved by.. i listened to it when it first came out .. and here i am 12 years later.. listening again. I am glad u are here
When you're in your mid 20s drifting aimlessly, so you re listen to nostalgia from your angst teen years such as this, and you're drinking Zinfandel and the memories replay over again, the river of life seems like it has no shore to cast you upon, and the years keep drifting on, a waundering millennial..next year you'll be 26.
Sometimes I yell or scream that section of this song for fun, it's the kind of thing I only ever heard once I was 'good' at it but it makes me think about the loving with which I started, the loving that kept me with it when I was frustrated for wearing out my voice for the '150'th time lol
These guys are easily the most brilliant songwriters I know of. Their lyrics are profound, heartfelt, an carry such intense feeling and depth. I am blown away with every line.
I've just gotten home, 6:30am, after a night of drinking for a mates wake. Second friend I've lost to suicide in 12 months. This song makes things a little easier
@@AgentArmadillo Hey mate, thanks for the kind words and checking in. I'm going good. Only time can heal these things and I'm glad I'm now left with fond memories that I can laugh about instead of being sad. For anyone out there, please do not take this path. Talk to your friends, family or a professional. Every day is a new day and things do get better.
-I'll weave your names into my ribcage, lock your hearts inside my chest -sing for all your friends and family, song for those who didn't make it; but sing not for their final outcome, sing a song of how they tried
the great thing about bands like la dispute is that anyone can relate to the stories they tell and the raw emotion in jordan's voice. but the only bad thing about bands like this is that they tend to just make me even more sad, but i can't stop listening.
that moment when you relate to a song so much it makes you happy and sad at the same time.... the feels are so powerful... and it makes me realise what a reck i am..
“And sing for all your friends and family, Sing for those who didn’t survive, But sing not for the final outcome, Sing a song of how they tried” “We are what’s left of what we once were. We are falling far behind. There’s so much stacking against us, and we’re running out of time. We are but hopeful children, and we’re the last of our kind..” Damn that honestly hits me so hard. Most of my friends and the people I know are giving up. We can’t do anything right, and what we do now has no meaning. What else is there to do? 10:06
it’s been four years since I lost my best friend from high school due to suicide. I still remember when we would play Sonic The Hedgehog late at night, every moment we were together seems to revolve around my head like a record player constantly. I wasn’t even able to tell her how much I cared for her which still sits in my mind til this day, I wish I could show you this song to give you hope, it’s the only thing we can hold onto. Rest easy my dearest friend til we meet again…
This whole song is 'up there' among best recordings, but what I really wanna know is if 2litre bottles occur in countries that use da imperial system of measurement?¿?
And I still hear my friend say, "you know, you wouldn't believe the things I saw when I was stationed overseas." But he somehow keeps smiling in spite of all of that, while I keep finding ways to push the good out for the bad. Oh how selfish of myself, to always say it was more than I could take, Like it was pain I couldn't shake. Like it could break me with its fingers. Throw my body in the lake and I would slowly sink away. But the truth is, it was sorrow that I made and wouldn't face. See, I keep falling for the future after tripping on the past.
And I am always tearing sutures out to make the anguish last Like it defines me. Or reminds me I've found comfort in my suffering And uncertainty in happiness and death, because What's next is such a mystery to me. I am terrified of all the things I feel but cannot see.
My first band covered this song and I was inspired by Jordans vocals so much he showed me other people feel the same as me and if I just write it from the heart and when my heart feels like screaming let it out. All my band members died from overdose I'm the only one left. I need to start doing vocals again
To me it's more about fighting against the selfishness of the world and desperatly trying to be hopeful in spite of this "sickness" that selfishness can be
seen this band for the first time last year. it hurt so bad in the way they only could. I've cried at concerts before but never like that. never so deeply. never so viceral. it was an experience like nothing else.

"We are but hopeful children And we're the last of our kind But if we let our hearts move outward I know we will never..." ... just a bottle in the sea... i am still alive, anyhow, and just thank you to have been a part of my life.
Fuck, I adore this band. What a beautiful mind that contains such lyrics and pours them out to each of us and makes us feel every bit of emotion that's woven into each word

So much power in the words of this man that it almost seems unworldly.....no doubt I owe a great amount of thanks to la dispute for creating music this real.

Kelli Tierney how lovely
Kelli Tierney I remember these guys as a garage band in northern Indiana. They used to play basement shows and it was fucking killer!
Imagine drinking Zinfandel. Like actually picking that as your drink of choice.
I get it, but drink better and get a better job.
Kelli Tierney I think you and I were separated at birth.
I just got a tattoo of the best line in this song in my opinion
"I will give your heart a place to rest, when everything you had has turned and left"
My first tattoo is
"We are the lovers we are the last of our kind."

Thanks bud, I tried to make it as meaningful as possible, its the least the song deserves.
I just saw the movie that the clip is from at the end. The La Dispute music over it makes the scene much more powerful than the movie did ha
7 years later and this song is still super relevant
Super duper relevant
I think it's a bit longer than that, but hell yeah
This song reminds me of the spiritual warfare we deal with and it's like Jesus is talking to us...
