    Debt collectors can collect more than what is owed. That is a violation also.

    What about debt parking? Is that unfair and unconscionable?

    I have had recent times when they are sending emails and making it look like it came from a Lawyer. But if you look at the header of the email they are sending from their email to their email and use a gmail server which I firmly believe not a practice of a legitimate Attorney.

      Hi @CTSNC sometimes the collection agencies will pose as attorneys or have company names that 'suggest' they are attorneys.

    M “Missie”
    A couple of years ago, I got an offer from Discover in the mail for a credit card. They had given me 18 mths with no interest to pay it and that sounded just great! So, I called them about 20 days in and tried to set up automatic payments of a small amount and they said it was too soon to pay, to call back at 27 days. Then I called back at 7 days and they put me on hold. Someone came on the line and said that they could not accept payment from me because I had been somehow "flagged" in their system. I said, WHAT? Of course. They said I would have to show them 3 years of back taxes and 3 years of my banking activity.. I said NO! Why did they give me the credit in the first place if they were going to do this??
    That went on a couple of months with them adding late fees and I called and told them they better not add any of those because it wasn't my fault they wouldn't take my money. They called me every day, sometimes 6 or 7 times wanting all that paperwork and I refused over and over again. I finally started just not answering the phone. One time in two weeks it was 37 times! Finally about 6-8 months in, they decided they would take my money. By that time, I was so pissed at them and literally sick to my stomach to even talk to them that I just ignored them . Last week the Sheriff came to my house and served me with a lawsuit. I owe just over $3k. Did they break laws?

    The annual town report lists the delinquent taxes then distributes it to all town inhabitants

      Hi @Awesome. Write everything out in date order - list any witnesses- gather your paperwork and then please meet with an attorney.

    So, I was served a summons thru my grandfather. My grandfather received the papers while I was at work and handed them to me when I returned home. He is not involved at ALL. Is that not publication?

      Interesting take- I see why you asked. However, if you live with your grandfather then that could be considered residential service on you, depending upon your local laws.

    If a debt collector sent a debt collection settlement agreement for me to sign and return, to my ex boyfriend's mother's house, would that be a violation? I tried to contact the person at the debt collection agency who was handling my case, left a message on the phone explaining everything in specific detail as to what they did. I never received a return phone call or letter or email which they have access too. This was over a year ago. I now am receiving letters from different attorneys stating their is a judgement against me and I should contact them if I want to file bankruptcy. The amount I owe isn't enough to claim bankruptcy. Also I've contacted several attorneys who don't want to take make case. I feel like I'm in gridlock! Can you advise me of the next best thing to do?

      Wow. yeah, I was going to subscribe. I feel like the person you replied to here, could now use an ice pack to cool the burn from your reply. It felt like to me to come across almost as a snub. I could be wrong, but that is what it seemed and felt like to me, and I wasn't even the one aaking the question.

      @FinelyRevealed  2 года назад

      HI Darrius. There are attorneys who pursue these cases and may do that on a contingency fee- they get paid out of what you are able to get from the debt collector. Contact any attorney in your area that you or someone knows and has dealt with- ask them for a referral.
