You need to throw a 100k subscriber party, a biker meet in a large field near Ipswich - a couple of bands, stalls, biker gear and bikes, call it 'Dobbs' and make it an annual event.
I'd travel from Ipswich to see it. I had the pleasure of bumping into Freddie and Monica at the Copdock Motorcycle Show last summer. They are just as lovely in person.
I'm relatively new to bike riding. At 63, I chose to buy a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 to start my riding obsession. This clip caught my attention by the title, and I have to say, I have not been so impressed with a "Scientific Research" video in ALL the thousands of videos I've watched over 18 months. I don't know if it's because I've just come back from England, so it brought back memories of an amazing holiday, visiting pubs and walking the lane ways of seaside villages, or it could have been your delivery of the video, and you're not too hard on the eye (I might be 63, but I'm not blind!) It was so informative and an absolute delight to watch. Needless to say, I am now an avid follower (bordering on obsessive 😅 ) Thankyou, just THANKYOU!
Harley's are a stage in everyone's life that you go through if you can afford it. I owned 5 in my lifetime and now happily bumbling around on a Classic. A different format to the usual and a pleasent change. Listening to 2 guys just chatting unscripted; perfect 👍
Was smitten with Enfield at 20 after driving around India on one. Finally got one at 45... Zero desire to ever have a Harley... Rather have another Enfield 🎉
That's the thing that's kept me away from Harleys, the price! I absolutely love the Low Rider ST, but I just can't justify buying a bike that costs as much as a car lol
Plenty of Harley's in the part of Australia where I live. Riding a Royal Enfield is something a bit different to the Boomer-Harley parade here. I am absolutely loving my Classic 350; it's a keeper.
12:55 That gesture never fails to make me giggle. It's amazing how simple things in life make the whole difference. The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Black Tribute is truly a stunner. Cheers.
Great to see you on a Harley, Freddie. I have a 48 and travel a lot. Great reports from you, the ideas, the commitment, the love of good company, gear and coffee shops
That classic exahust sound sent me back to the days we used to call the classic as the bullet😅. Danny seems chilled gentleman with whom you can ride any given day.
Hi Freddie , thanks again for another relaxing video you are mine and my daughters favourite watch 😊 - will there be a party when the bonneville returns!
Very nice Freddie...I really like the way you have cool jazz playing over your riding and about town scenes... no uneccessary chatter ruining the view. Keep up the great work!
I definitely hear you about the nostalgia thing. I get way more attention on my Bonneville than I ever have on my previous bikes. Quite a few people reminisce about their first Triumphs and what not. Pretty cool machines to be sure.
Just to make you feel better . I had a RE Bullet 500 which had a seperate lock on the forks . At least three times i rode of forggetting it and falling off. One time in front of a police van who put it in the back and gave me a lift home . Safe riding Rich
Once you've tried the lot, choose the bike that brings you the most joy. That's the right bike "for you". Concern yourself not of what others think is better. If you're having the most fun you're doing it the best. 😊
Nothing better than listening to knowledgable, genuine enthusiasts talk about bikes and not all the other crap going on in the world, great stuff Freddie and Danny.
Good video Freddie. I got to say looking at the side by side comparison of the Enfield to the Harley is totally apples to oranges. There’s no comparison. The Enfield is a nice little bike with old school nostalgia. The hog is a beast. I’m totally sure you could have the same amount of fun on both bikes, and on the Enfield it would a lot cheaper. But you just can’t beat the Harley power and style. And life’s to short to run around on a 500.
Life too short to run around on an RE 500 Classic but I think it would be fine on one of their 650s. I was always disappointed that they went with the 350 to replace the Bullets - 500 single with another 10-15 hp that could easily hold 70 two up would have been a lot more versatile.
Test rode a Sportglide a couple of years ago and its a superb Harley, very impressed. I actually bought a 2020 107ci Deluxe with a stage 2, as they have stopped making this model and just love the 50’s timeless classic looks, would gladly have a Sportsglide as well as such a versatile bike.
Wonderful video! Danny is quietly enjoying that sprung saddle. Being forced to change riding styles to a more pleasant and enjoyable pace with the Enfield must be one of motorcycling's great secrets. The Harley does that too but it seems the Enfield more so.
Really enjoyed that Freddie 👍there both beautiful bikes i believe it comes down to the smile factor if a bike makes you feel good then its the bike for you👍👍
Ohh Freddie, great to hear Monika being with you👌 Great to catch up with KTM/RE Dani too? If you’re not used to doing something, don’t try to change it because it can cause grief & unbalance until you get used to it. Have fun for the remainder of summer & stay cool👌⭐️
Hi Freddie, good to see you and Monica back on the bike, plus you're on a Harley looking good bike and fashion go together in my book, and you do it well, dobbs 👊🏽👏🏽✅️
A little love-letter to Felixstowe there. Love it down at the Ferry and Mannings at the pier is a proper landmark. (My wife’s from there, in-laws and family still there, love our visits)
these things happen to us all Freddie at some time ,years ago turning in a road in the Peak District as we had took a wrong turning i dropped our Honda st1100 onto the pod that covers the small engine protector . your friend with the Enfield is a really nice person . best wishes to you both . good viewing .
I have to say the Harley does suit you and I'm glad I owned one, well two. Like Danny you move on, but have fond memories. It didn't bother me no one nodded when I had a Harley, I was smiling at the time 😁 and was riding for me not other people. Great video and love Danny's bike
Looks like the perfect Monday morning to me..Lovely Bike, lovely company, decent weather, breakfast & good coffee..Top Man ( & Woman )!love your passion for 2 wheels!!!
Freddie, It wasn't the Harley that made me watch this. The Royal Enfield 500 classic is a beautiful machine. Could be said it is the last real classic 'British' motorcycle ever to be produced by my reckoning. I have a Meteor which I love, which will be replaced when I retire by an Interceptor, though a Classic Reborn might be the interim. I'm not anti-Harley they just don't spark with me, and I just couldn't justify the financial outlay. They seem to look out of place on gritty English roads, despite being beautiful in their own right. They get a lot attention from on-lookers, whereas the Enfield seems to be more joy for the actual person on the seat? Smiles per mile winner goes to ......RE! Another great video.
Nice video again Freddie and thanks for the heads up on the food hall! I shall get there! 'Not a new bike pretending to be a classic' is exactly how I feel about my Bullet 500 - compared to an Interceptor or even the Himmy (which I know you love but as said, I find a bit soulless), the Bullet just has so much character. It is the bike that's captured my heart, despite it being not at all capable. I just love bimbling around on it. All the best mate
What a brilliant video Freddie just loved the Classic 500 alongside the Harley proper chalk & cheese lol Danny came over really well & you tell by he’s Huge grin he was falling in love with he’s 500 lol, Would love to see you 2 guys(& of course Monica) out on a ride out with a 500 & a Classic 350! Now that would be great👍🏻
I wish Royal Enfield made colour coded panniers for the Super Meteor like the Harley's ones. They look good and keep the bike narrow for filtering. Beautiful bike and an enjoyable watch with you and Danny.
Great show. I have been riding the same Harley Davidson Heritage Softail (in Canada) for 36 years but if I ever picked up a new motorcycle, no doubt in my mind, it will be a new retro British classic. Love the Enfield.
Aw man the proportions on that limited edition! there may not be many alive in this day and age who would really appreciate that timeless design!!! my eyes...
Dont worry Freddie Ive done the same thing outside the George in Mumbles on a steep sloped carpark, lost my footing one side had to hop off to save the cbr, but meant i twisted the throttle wide open, red lining and it was outside the pub window with everyone inside stopping their meal to stare at the short legged berk ham fisting to redline struggling to keep the bike up lol.
Was putting along on a 2 lane, about 50mph on my Desert Sand Signals 350 and was passed by a 1980s HD bagger. He turned and gave me a thumbs up. Pulled up next to him at a light, and he was almost gushing about my bike, using the word ‘badass’. The Classic is special, the intangible is palpable, the appeal is universal.
OMG I had a look at a R.E Tribute here in Tasmania on Tuesday, absolutely gorgeous machine, going back on the weekend for a test ride. This one is number #0875, 400kms price is $8500. I am very keen to see how they ride.🖤🖤🖤
I had a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 for one year. I sold it this spring and bought a Harley Davidson 883 Sporster Iron. I like the HD more. The weight is closer to the road and the bike is more steady. The quality of the bike, some parts of it, also feels better, but the RE Interceptor are more comfortable for long distance riding.
I am so fortunate I have a 2017 Triumph Trophy and a 2022 Triumph T120. Having a touring bike and the Sunday ride bike is a perfect combination. I often think of the new Triumph Tiger 1200 but I’m too old to travel to South America so maybe keep that $30K in the bank account. Great addition with Danny, very well, spoken and obviously a wise guy. Love his little,Enfield such a smashing looking old school bike 👍👍👍👍👍
Here in the states, I've been riding a custom HD Nightster for a couple years. I was given an Indian market ,iron barrel, 500 Bullet, a few months ago, By an Indian Utuber. Now it's hard to swing a leg over the Harley. My '08 black Bullet was hand painted by the Kumar brothers😊.
Both of those motorcycles are nice. Until I have cash in hand I will have to stay with my 2003 Sportster. I finally got a Quad lock for the bike and my Jeep Liberty. Waiting for one for the house
5 years ago my RE classic 500 Reditch stole my heart. All the sports bikes before it have all but been forgotten but the little Royal Enfield will never be sold
It's also, on larger bikes, the smart move because if that parking spot slopes inward, pushing a 400 kilo bike back out ass first is *not* a fun exercise. Ask me how I know.
I got a 1990 fat boy,had it nearly 10 years, never missed a beat,..Evo 1340 imported it from California, still immaculate, i was in a London club so got used a lot ,not so much last 4 years I'm getting old 😢
I do love that RE....beautiful bike....I never have used my fork lock exactly for the reason that you almost dropped the Harley...LOL..great video as always buddy...
I wonder.... given how easy it is to make that mistake, and no happy ending can be guaranteed... why can't they incorporate something that would not allow a gear to engage, or maybe even a starter lock out, until the fork lock is released?? For that kind of cash..... it should be standard right? Come on HD.....
What a fun episode. Maybe keyless bikes shouldn't be able to start with the steering lock on. I think I'd be prone to forgetting that as well. It's why disc locks have the brake lever cable.
Problem with HD is their lack of attention of detail and update their technology if you have a key fob, similar on my Multistrada V4S you can lock the handlebars but with the fob in your pocket and turn on the power switch it automatically unlocks the handlebars again and your good to go, common sense technology.
@@FreddieDobbs Oh yes, I do enjoy your videos. Thank you again. And again I'm sorry about your bike, 6 week's is ridiculous time to wait. Hopefully you and Monica can enjoy the Harley. Thank you again and thank you for the reply, it means the world. Ride safe.
Love the videos! If you're ever up Birmingham way again I have a 23 plate Mash 650 you'd be more than welcome to have a spin on! Great bikes for those on a budget.
Dont worry about advertising the broken steering lock as they're simple to break in a couple of seconds. Crazy how much better the bike looks without the faring and paniers.
If you want a genuinely old-school bike (i.e. with a basic architecture that goes back 50 years) but with enough grunt to manage modern road conditions, I recommend checking out a Guzzi 850 V7. It has its roots in the late-70s Guzzi V50 and still has air-cooling, shaft-drive and a pushrod / overhead valve motor, but I surprised myself on a single carriageway A road this afternoon to see I was doing 75 mph with no stress at all. I think you tested a 750 V7 on Tenerife a while back but the 850's a jump up in capability while still retaining that old-school feel.
To be fair, it was a spin on my son’s FatBob 114 that got me back on a bike after a 20 year break. I loved riding again, but the HD was a lot of everything. I started looking, and it was love at first sight on the Desert Sand Classic. Puts a grin on my face every time. My son tried it. He said it was interesting to be on a motorcycle that wasn’t trying to say anything about him, he was just a guy who happened to be on a motorcycle.
Ha Freddie great show. Sorry to say it is good to see you look comfortable on a bike. Your own one makes you look like. Sorry to say a spidermonkey on a kids toy bike. Only saying as a tall person my self 6.6foot it is hard to find a bike that fits. Saying that just bought the Honda transalp and waiting for delivery hopefully September. Anyway enjoy have a great summer. Regards to you and Monika hope that is spelt Wright. Regards Martin
Ahhhh I know there’s at least an element of truth here Martin, as quite a few others have said I’m a bit too tall for the Bonneville too. Great shout on a new TRANSALP and I hope it fits you well- 6’6 is a serious height and much harder to pick bikes at that height (it’s a very good problem to have!🙂). Monika spelt spot on👌🏻🙋🏻♀️
I understand why you like this bike. You look right on it. Do they do a 114 version of this? I like it with the small fairing. My favourite Harley is the 114 Fat Bob. Not only would I have taken my helmet with you, I'd put a disc lock on any bike anywhere in GB. Great panniers on this 107. I agree. I hate soft luggage. It looks nice around the Ipswich area. Long time since I've been there, but as I'm moving back to England from Portugal, I may ride down from Yorkshire. 1990 [Nick J]
Freddie, I have very similar quick release hard panniers (leather covered) for my 2022 Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. They also pop right off two bolts, and lock back on. I got them from Viking Bags in the US, but I'm not sure whether they will ship to UK. They are awesome and only cost about $300.
The Harley will always be a 10 out of 10 for ‘pose’ value and the one you have there is great to look at….. but, you’re right about bikes like the Royal Enfield, everyone will come up to you and want to talk about the bike. The same happens on my 40yr old BMW R100RS, I get more attention than I would ever get riding any modern BMW ….
Great video, as always. I have a Tribute Black (ordered it within minutes of it being orderable!) and I in run the Tribute Black FB group. Interestingly there are 2000 on them, not 1000. 1000 for Europeean market numbered x of 1000, and another 1000 for the other rest of world market, simply numbered x (not of 1000). Cheers fellas.
I'm not sure what a HD experience is. Every time I do a demo ride, I'm surprised by how different one model's ride is to the next. If you rode that SPort Glide, then a Fat Bob, then a Heritage, then a Fat Boy, and you couldn't look at them, I bet you'd never consider they were from the same mfg let alone the same platform. They do all share a heap of weight if you don't hold them upright at stops though.
You need to throw a 100k subscriber party, a biker meet in a large field near Ipswich - a couple of bands, stalls, biker gear and bikes, call it 'Dobbs' and make it an annual event.
Sounds like a plan, I would travel from Edinburgh for it.
I'd travel from Ipswich to see it. I had the pleasure of bumping into Freddie and Monica at the Copdock Motorcycle Show last summer. They are just as lovely in person.
Nice idea. I'm in Brazil, but I would love to get there.
I would travel from the Netherlands for it, on my interceptor

Cool episode! Please invite Danny again to the show
Yes. Danny is such a nice person and a good ambassador for bikers.
Great to see you on a Harley, Freddie. I have a 48 and travel a lot. Great reports from you, the ideas, the commitment, the love of good company, gear and coffee shops
You have my dreambike
I rented a 48 in Hawaii last February. It's really cool bike I've always liked them!
Yep! That's a lovely looking Harley Freddie! The panniers are also beautifully sculptured and look amazing too! Great content, thank you!

I'm getting a classic 350 and I'm super excited for it
I would also pick the 350 over the 500. You lose some of the 500’s old school charm, but it’s easier to live with🙂👌🏻
Well done! Enjoy!😊👍
Really like the video but especially the final chat. The setting, those clouds, little huts, the bikes, nice flowing conversation. Great

For that kind of cash..... it should be standard right? Come on HD.....
I always forget to unlock steering on my Heritage 😮.
Thanks to you three.
What a fun episode. Maybe keyless bikes shouldn't be able to start with the steering lock on. I think I'd be prone to forgetting that as well. It's why disc locks have the brake lever cable.
I agree with this👌🏻
Problem with HD is their lack of attention of detail and update their technology if you have a key fob, similar on my Multistrada V4S you can lock the handlebars but with the fob in your pocket and turn on the power switch it automatically unlocks the handlebars again and your good to go, common sense technology.
Fantastic video. I dream of the day that i ride my motorbike in the UK and visit the Ace cafe. I hope your bike gets fixed ASAP.
Really glad you enjoyed the video. And thank you- six weeks and still no progress with the Bonneville🏍️😳
Ace Cafe is a cliche. There's lots of better biker cafes to visit.
Ride safe.
Keyless ignition, but you need a key for the steering lock 🤔. What were Harley thinking?
Welcome to the world of proper riding Danny 👍
Love the videos! If you're ever up Birmingham way again I have a 23 plate Mash 650 you'd be more than welcome to have a spin on! Great bikes for those on a budget.
Dont worry about advertising the broken steering lock as they're simple to break in a couple of seconds. Crazy how much better the bike looks without the faring and paniers.
A natural interviewer
FYI HD has magnetic caps to cover the bolts on the sides. Then it will look even cleaner. Good job😎
Hi Freddie, greetings from Vienna. Love to watch your videos, really really good. Cheers from Vienna, Goran.
The Royal Enfield is a beauty. Economically, a very good “hedge” to retain the value of your assets whilst having a lot of fun.
Love your channel. Just such relaxing to watch. Keep it up 👍🏼. Love it when the Fiat gets to show its face too 😊
If you want a genuinely old-school bike (i.e. with a basic architecture that goes back 50 years) but with enough grunt to manage modern road conditions, I recommend checking out a Guzzi 850 V7.
The dealer network where I am is utter rubbish. Couldnt give a fig for what to me is a beautiful machine
Danny will own a Harley before the year is out.😂
Ha Freddie great show.
Monika is spelled right, "spelt Wright" is not. LOL
Monika spelt spot on👌🏻🙋🏻♀️
You should ride a street glide special, or a road glide!
Your Meteor review is still the best out there 2 years later.
Another great video! thanks
Spot on Danny, had mine 2 years now - best bike I’ve ever owned, long honeymoon 😍😅👌
1990 [Nick J]
the new improved softail harleys are such a mature design, power and weight.
Looks very cool, both bikes. Harley riders often don't greet back. Don't know why.
Can't be arsed.
I always greet back. Cheers!
You should do a Coffee with Dobbs clip, where you Talk to an owner with an interesting bike or Adventure. It would Be interesting.
beautiful Royal Enfield !
"Another glorious day in Ipswich"...words you rarely hear.
Love the content Stu, think the Bullet 350 is a lot of bike for the money!
This a conversation between inthusiasts ❤
Another great video, I’ve only found you recently but love the content. Just sold my Harley to buy a Bonneville, no regrets.
Delighted you found the channel, Robert. Very interesting to hear you’ve made the switch!
@@FreddieDobbs I had a Road King and just found it too big. Swapped for a T120.
@@Bonnie_robbie78 Well, you did buy a bike called the "Road King." Sounds like it must have lived up to the name. Lol
@@kenbowlus2995 I had it for 5 years and loved it. I now enjoy riding b roads and smaller roads, it’s not built for that.
Your Art Director has been hard at work here !
Not a fan of HD, but that is an absolute beauty 😂
We'd be there from across the other ditch, may need a month or 2 notice
