My alltime favourite album! I will never get tired of listening. A very good friend of mine, a music journalist, once wrote that the Stones were revealing the DNA of rock music in an ingenious way. It's all there: country, rock, rock 'n' roll and soul.
A great eclectic album that stands up today. I have always thought Mic Taylor's contribution was a major component w/Keith's guitar work defining R&R on this album. My favorite and I would argue the best rock album ever. Thanks.
The album came out in 1972 backed up by a tour. To get tickets was literally a riot. The music perfectly fit the time. That doesn't happen often..we were introduced to Stevie Wonder at that concert. I've been a Stones fan ever since . It wasn't just a bunch of songs it was a revolution.
Thank-you; I really enjoyed this. I just purchased 'Exile' on vinyl the other day via Discogs; a German release from '77 - sounds great to me. I also still love dipping into Keith Richards auto-bio as he talks of this period, etc. I'd love to visit the place it was recorded; not sure if the present owners would be up for it. Keep up the great work!
I used a VT- 22 for a while and yes they are unbelievably heavy. I am glad I sold it before I needed to do any work on it. One look inside the back of it and seeing how everything was jammed in there and all the switches was enough to scare me away.
I've always been fascinated by their "Rolling studio". It seems to keep coming up in videos. Where did it come from? How many things did it record? Was it the only one of its kind? Who used it and where is it now? Anyway, cool video!
The Who used it for the production of "Who's Next", Deep Purple for "Machine Head", Led Zeppelin for "Physical Graffiti" and many more. Deep Purple mentioned it in "Smoke On The Water"...
One would have thought with Exile being a double album that Mick and Keith would have allowed Bill Wyman to contribute at least one song. It was around that time Bill was recording solo albums that proved he was a capable writer and singer.
I've always wondered why more wasn't made of the mixes, especially the vocals. I mean I was a 15-yr. old kid listening to the thing and wondering, 'What in the world is the deal with the vocals?'
There's a decent book specifically devoted to the recording of this record - Exile on Main St: A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones by Robert Greenfield.
Not my favorite Stones album, but it surely stands out and is an important step Stone(!) on their way further… The Stones in the rehearsing studio, what could be more charming? What could be more Rock’n Roll? Dirty!
Exile sounds like it was recorded on a Sears Roebuck $25.00 reel to reel recorder. The bass is nearly impossible to hear and the horns sound like kazoos. I love it love it love it.
Depending on the day, it gets my vote for being the best album in modern popular music. Alternately, I consider Love's Forever Changes to be its equal. Won't listen to anything by The Stones now, of course, as they have become a wonky constantly traveling performance and parody pestilence that simply will not cease and desist. Absolutely killed my interest in their entire catalogue.
Yeah, its tricky to find photo's that exactly correspond to the script sometimes. I try my best to provide information about the recording process and few good stories.
If Keith wasn’t the cool guy I thought he was, I probably wouldn’t have lost my leg. 🦿🤔 It’s only now that I realise how much I wanted to be like him. 😅
@ : No, the effects of smoking and the use of cocaine. I quit 15 years ago, but 10 years ago it still happened. They couldn’t save my leg. Unlucky I guess. The only musician I know that had to amputate something because of his way of living (which was way worse than mine) was Waylon Jennings. I don’t know of anyone else. But yes, when people ask me about it, often I just say I’ve been bitten by a shark, or it just accidentally fell off one day, or something else. They usually understand I’m joking.
Exile is one of the greatest albums ever made. The fact that Keith loves it and Mick hates it makes me love it all the more. 😂

Best album ever ❤🎶🎸
Thank you for posting this one, great!
Thank you!
The sound of this album has always fascinated me almost as much as the songs themselves

It was a magic time and the results are magic - lightning bottle,a joint and a needle 🥳
Special sound on this record

Thank you! I’d love to have a look too. It’s not that far from where I live but like you said, the new owners probably wouldn’t be too pleased.
BTW the guitar circled at 3.22 and in various other photos, is a Gibson ES-355, not a 335 - I know, because I've always wanted one...
Correct.
The 345 has the varitone dial…
@@SuperJayfive As does the ES-355, but the 345 has the split neck inlays and the plain headstock! (Mind you, I'd have one of those too...)
BEST ALBUM THEY EVER DID
Very enjoyabel, thanx !
Thank you!
You know I liked it 🤙
At 1:53 Bobby Keys on Sax, Jim Price was on Trumpet.
It's AMAZING you were able to tell the story of Nellcôte and Exile without mentioning heroin even once. 😆
He didn't say the word, but it's mentioned.
Thank you
Maybe include that Sunset Sound’s Sound Techniques console was used for mixing and overdubs.. Great video!
Thank you! Good point 👍
Great video. Nice details. Still my fave LP of all time.
Thank you!
Got an Ampeg VT-22 on the bench
They're a pain to repair with the oddball 6AN8 and 12DW7 preamp tubes.
Not to mention how heavy they are
I used a VT- 22 for a while and yes they are unbelievably heavy. I am glad I sold it before I needed to do any work on it. One look inside the back of it and seeing how everything was jammed in there and all the switches was enough to scare me away.

Thank you! The truck definitely got about a bit. A bit of a legend itself.
The Rolling Stones Mobile is now fully restored and located in Calgary Alberta, Canada at The National Music Center.
The Who used it for the production of "Who's Next", Deep Purple for "Machine Head", Led Zeppelin for "Physical Graffiti" and many more. Deep Purple mentioned it in "Smoke On The Water"...

As The Glimmer Twins would say in unison, "Bill who?"
Exile On Main Street came out as I graduated High School. Not my favorite Stones LP but included some truly great songs.
I've always wondered why more wasn't made of the mixes, especially the vocals. I mean I was a 15-yr. old kid listening to the thing and wondering, 'What in the world is the deal with the vocals?'

Ventilator Blues 😎

whats the deal with that Bigsby bridge, anyone know ?
At 2:44 that's an Ampeg B-15 amp
Also, this was a great video. Would have been even better at around 45 minutes longer. 😂❤
Thank you!
Can you do Van Halen 1 please? Great sounding record
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it 👍
Yes ! Good suggestion !
Especially on vinyl, sounds very good on this medium!
Wait. Stop.. I havent seen this??? Hang on.........im not ready

At 1:53 Bobby Keys on Sax, Jim Price was on Trumpet. At 5:57 you say Bobby Keys on Baritone Sax and then show him with a Tenor Sax. Lame.
Yeah, its tricky to find photo's that exactly correspond to the script sometimes. I try my best to provide information about the recording process and few good stories.
@mixingmasteringonline Well, that's kind of funny because there's a picture of Bobby Keys and a Baritone Sax in you're video at 4:54.
😂
Saxophones not my strong point it seems.😂
It would have been a good single album . A lot of it is trash .
NONE OF IT IS TRASH..THE WHOLE ALBUM IS DYNOMITE..THE BEST ALBUM THEY EVER DID..IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE YOURE OUT OF YOUR MIND
What tracks would you consider 'trash'?
There are 2 Bands with the Name "The Rolling Stones". The only one until the Departure of Brian Jones. After that it was something else.
BRIAN JONES WAS WORTHLESS..THE MICK TAYLOR ERA WAS THE BEST
If Keith wasn’t the cool guy I thought he was, I probably wouldn’t have lost my leg. 🦿🤔

What happened to your leg? Was it eaten by a shark?

Every normal guy wants to be Keith Richards... you are not special.
