      Hi,
As always thank you for taking the time to reply. The update is very good.
The problem turns out I think is compositor cannot feed into to VSE.
Blender Frenzy give a good explanation of blender processing.
      ruclips.net/user/attribution_link?a=rGY9FGHnp-cVyljD&u=/watch%3Fv%3DK1DTr0Nt39g%26feature%3Dem-comments
I do not know if I have found the best answer as it a little messy.
Have a blend for each part that needs compositoring -> out to pngs RGBA
Finally have a blend as a vse project, this can have a scene for each of the previously processed blends / pngs ) and bring each of the components into a final video.
Ive created shell scripts to process each blend which reduces human error and makes everything repeatable and runs blender in batch mode. Another reason for this is for some reason my pc has problems processing a clip >> 7000 ( dont know why, it has 80G of Ram, losts of ssd etc etc, blender 3.1.2 -which seems a bit buggy so may go back to 3.0.1 ). Using a script lets me cut the processing into 5000 frame chunks. Also it lets me use unix background etc etc.
It is messy but so far seems to work. It would be nice to just have a single blend for everything but I cant make that work.
Thank you again, your help is greatly appreciated.
      Jessica

Nice! Very clear and easy to follow. Just the right level for someone like me who has some experience with paid FX software, but wants to go to an open-source pipeline. This is a hobby for me, so my financial manager (wife) appreciates it when I can spend less! :-)
If I could add to the discussion, here are a couple of additional things that have worked for me, when shooting green screen:
If you have enough lights and room to put the screen further back, you can light the screen separately, which can really help in making it even. Also, it allows you to use more dramatic or shadowed lighting on the subject (if it works for your scene) without also causing shadows on the green screen.
For the high frame rate - some cameras allow you to change the amount of time each frame is exposed independently of the frame rate. Kind of an advanced topic, but there is information out there on how to do it if your camera is capable. By making the exposure time on each frame shorter, you get the same effect (sharpness during movement).
Finally - you can get some cheap spring clamps from a hardware store and use them to clamp the green fabric to something rigid at the edges in order to smooth out the wrinkles. You can, for example, drape the cloth over a wide bookshelf if you have one, and then clamp the edges to the sides of the shelving. I actually have three loaded bookshelves I can line up for the purpose. Just make sure they are weighed down with actual books so they can keep the tension on the screen.
Anyway, great video! I look forward to more!

And what I keep reading from fairly rational people on these forums, confirms how I feel. Looks like a lot of work to learn something that is glitchy, takes s-loads of time to render small segments, and is basically a matrix full of dead ends. This is the first time since I started into Linux OS's years ago that I'll say this, "I can't wait to log onto windows and do my project in MAGIX. I thought I'd give Blender a try but I don't have the effen time.

Thank you very much! As a complete beginner to green screen in Blender, this was the only tutorial out there that I could really follow. Learned a lot about nodes too ^^ The only problem I have is that a somewhat yellowish outline around me stays, no matter what I do. It also stays when I follow tutorials about keying in After Effects, so I think it's maybe just a problem with the footage? I filmed with a somewhat "old" DSLR, a Canon 70D, which can only do FullHD, no 4k, and wore a red hoodie. Even in the untouched footage you can already see that there is this yellowish outline around the edge of the red before it goes into the green. Is it possible that a slightly noisy FullHD is just not good enough to work? ISO was up to 640, which is not too bad, maybe I need to somehow get more lighting to be able to put the ISO down. Any experiences?

Something that I am having a hard time understanding when I watch the Blender tutorials is all the extra steps/running around it takes to do something. Other software allows you to key a video right on the timeline and drop something below it and its done. It is always required in blender to isolate a clip, bring it into a new workspace or .blend, perform the edits, render it out, then bring it back? I would rather just edit it in the current timeline and keep moving. Are the workspaces connected? I am so confused

    • @RyanKingArt
      @RyanKingArt  3 года назад +1

Hmm yeah. You might be mixing up Blenders Compositor, with its Video Editor. The Video Editor is completely different then the Compositor. I have not used other Visual Effects software so I don't have anything to compare with Blender. I don't know how other VFX programs work. As far as I know, Blender's Video Editor does not have any features to key out a green screen. So you have to use the compositor for that. Hope this helps.

If the subscribe button has a transparent background, you can add it in at the end with an alpha over node, and mix it together with the final video. You could also just add it in the video editor.

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for the video, it's really easy for me to follow it with no real editing knowledge.
I've been following your tutorial for a timer with a transparent background I want to put on top of a video. I followed you until 11:53, after which I skipped to the saving the images part. When I click on render animation, it just shows me a cube, and I wanted to know where I went wrong. Could you help me out?

@@RyanKingArt I do have a compositing node (which is the one already given with the render layer node), but it's not connected to anything after adding the "Keying" node which makes the background transparent. I tried deleting the Render Layer node, but after clicking Render Animation the output changes from a cube to just a black screen. Also, the used nodes button is checked when I render. Perhaps I'm messing up with how I've connected the nodes?

But now, when I add it as an image strip when video editing, it ends up playing it backwards. I've made sure that I'm not accidentally playing it backwards. Do you know how to fix that? I'd also like to mention that the images are being stored in the correct order, so 0001 is the first one, and 0100 is the last one.

Thanks a ton sir, you've helped out a lot! Most youtubers don't do this, so I'm grateful you've taken the extra effort to teach beginners like us some editing. Thanks once again :)

Sorry I didn't see your reply! RUclips didn't notify me. If your using the images as planes, your going to need to go into the material nodes, and set it up with a transparency. Add a Transparent Shader, and plug it up with the principled BSDF with a mix shader. Then plug the Alpha of the Image, into the factor on the mix shader. Also, are you using Eevee? With Eevee, there are a few Settings your going to have to change to make the transparency work. Let me know if you need any more help, and I will try to help you.

    Hi
I have created a few scenes
    1 - movie
2 - Intro - which is a scene containing an image seq and a bg colour
    3
    - Presentation - Which is a compositor of image seq plus various
filters, green screen removal , colour correct a couple of tracked masks
    etc.
When I play Presentation Scene in Compositor all looks good.
I change to movie scene and and Video Editing.
I add the Intro scene it works no problem.
So now the movie scene is vse and has the intro scene added.
I add the Presentation scene to the movie scene in video seo and get a black screen .
I have selected sequencer as the scene input.
It is set to alpha over , everything else is defaults and also look to have the same values as the intro.
The only difference between into and presentation, is intro is a vse the Presentation scene is compositor. It has viewer and composite as outputs.
The layout, default cube removed. Cam set to origin, with alt R alt S etc then a g Z to move it above the base.
As a test, I rendered out the Presentation scene as pngs and it works file.
Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong ?

OMG do if you're going to use Windows 10 or greater why on earth use Blender Video Editor for anything. I've had MAGIX video editor for 20 years and taught myself on it to do things that are a real pain-in-the-ass struggle with Blender Video Editor. How can this be better? I'm spoiled with what I have I guess. The Chroma Key is about 1000 times more complicating and harder to master, with many more moving parts and functions to make the same thing happen. Why do so many people Linux experts advocate this?? I feel it must be because they really have never had a passion for making actual video stories, at least like short films or something, and just make it work enough to do a few simple strips on a timeline and go, "COOL!!" They probably never use the Chroma features or other more in depth. things. MAGIX was not a struggle to learn and with ease I can do more than this pile of crap. This thing is just one small step above writing it all in code to get what I want instead of pointing and clicking. Terrible tutorials. Oh yeah, like Eclipse IDE, same kind of brute force learn, it's free. Thank god I didn't completely give up Windows and I can still fall back on MAGIX to get the job done. It would have been worth the $96.00 that Fry's wanted two years ago and yet I got it for $15.00 before they closed for good. Works great. I don't sell for MAGIX. I wish I did though.
