Welp, I was incredibly nervous about this one, and not just because Shepard's Pie made my teeth turn grey.
I've never had this type of response to my videos before, and I never really thought I would. So this is crazy. Thank you guys for being so cool, I know the production quality of this stuff is not on the same level as many other channels who do this type of thing, but maybe one day we'll get there.
In the meantime, I can't thank you enough. After 200 videos and five years, this channel just hit 3k subscribers. Most of that was over the past 2 weeks.
Anyways, I'll shut up:) hopefully I'll see you for the family analysis vid. Have a great weekend! If you haven't already, check out the other DHMIS videos.

My grandmother died within the last year and she was chronically dehydrated because she'd "forget to grab water". It felt like the episode was targeted at us almost.
    Some additional things to add:
When someone you're close to dies, it can be hard to realize they're actually gone. They're dead, but you always expect them to call randomly or come around a corner. That was how the beginning of the episode felt to me, maybe as a coincidence.
At the funeral, i was asked to read some poems my grandmother liked and even though my immediate family was the closest to her at the end of her life, i still felt like i should not have been the one to be up in front of everyone saying things about her. Like i "knew which one (she) was".
For sure, there's the part where these people who didn't even know duck that well were there crying and giving platitudes, but also the fact that these strangers *invaded their space*, which is something you might feel when distraut. They'll give platitudes and offer pointless help (a napkin, a sandwich, a sandwich on a napkin).
Also the fact that yellow guy brought up all these memories of duck that weren't that flattering to him, like how when someone's gone sometimes you miss even the bad things about them.
All in all, every single moment of that episode was so incredibly well thought out and so packed full of meaning in multiple ways. I felt the same way with the job episode where i had to seriously take a look at my own job where we repeat the same jokes, talking to managers are like greeting npcs, where the idea of you can be what you want isn't real...

Thanks, but i don't believe in heaven. I just know she isn't struggling or suffering anymore. My immediate family were with her for her last week (i took some time off work and even worked remote there) and it was really hard to see how much she struggled at the end. How everything was too much effort and at times terrifying like when she'd wake up in the night and not recognize anyone.
I find my solice in the fact that she left a legacy and memories. We have her diaries, her prized posessions, and most importantly the stories we tell.
I relate to the memory song since we even look back at her working herself up into needing to go to urgent care every holiday with a surprising fondness. How we'd sit down to the meal with our phones half expecting a call to have to go to the hospital to meet her.

Personally, I think this episode perfectly discusses and satirizes character death in TV shows (Sitcoms specifically) that happened because an actor left the show or was fired.
When the duck dies it's sudden and unexpected, It doesn't feel like something that was planned to happen but needed to happen.
At the funeral they play his memorial montage full of things that us as the audience had never seen duck do or known existed to try and flesh out the character and make the viewer experience more emotion when watching.
The mourners feel like characters put into the show to try and make it seem like they had a life out of the show and to add more characters to sympathize with.
Stain Edwards the Forever Boy feels like the character they put into the show after the death to fill the void. Stain originally was his own character with his own motivations and personality but over time just became a copy of the dead character.
Duck coming back feels like the actor had to return to the show for some reason or another and they revealed that the character indeed was not dead.
Duck/Stain (whoever it was) getting killed feels like the writers realizing that these two characters fill the same spot in the cast and removing one of them to balance it back out.
At least that is how I read this episode. I also feel like that concept as a whole references episode 5 of the original series where duck tries to leave and gets killed off. Thats just my opinion though, sorry for the long comment LOL. Love the series keep it up!

Another couple of things that kind of discredits the "real duck dies" theory is that
    1) Real duck is more in line to kill Stain than the other way round
    2) Yellow guy was standing in a different position than where he was before they cut to the song, so positioning wouldn't really matter

    • @danielprofeta

I personally disagree with the idea that Stain Edwards the Forever Boy would be incapable of killing the duck (which is not what you said specifically, but it's an idea I've seen a couple times online). Most of the original malicious teachers like the clock from time or the journal from creativity seemed kind at the beginning, then they started to reveal their true nature.

There's also a hint Stain was killed by Duck. You see Stain in the Bigger Boys room as the experiment. Even Duck mentions Stain ''turned into him'' and Red Guy talks about ''the experiment'' after. My theory is that Stain wasn't killed, but was reverted back into his clay form and ''tried to travel the house because it's full of adventure'' but was forever trapped by the Bigger Boys.

His personal seat is a rocking chair, he served in the military most likey in the mid-20th century judging by his uniform and he makes "Man yells at cloud" energy level statements about his surroundings. He's also hilariously abusive to Yellow Guy, which might get overlooked due to his age.

Duck is pretty cruel in this series, meanwhile the replacament they tried for Duck, doesn't do any harm to others, so, most likely, Old Duck killed the "New" one. Her personality didn't seem change when it turned to duck, she even said to red guy that he might have some issues to work with, and felt uncofortable.
She reappears in the last episode of the series, being electrocuted by duck in the second floor, and in the scene yellow was walking towards the stairs, red guy and duck were talking with small volume about what they were doing in the second floor. I think the one who survived is definetly old duck.

A new vista of lunacy lies before me. I will enter it BOLDLY! If I do not return, speak well of me! And speaking of death, I want to be buried in a burlap sack in a forest so my remains become part of that forest. In preparation for this, I recently buried myself in a burlap sack in order to begin the decomposition process. One cannot begin these things too early.

Duck dying because he didn't drink water goes hand-in-hand with him having rabies (per the family episode) since end-stage rabies causes hydrophobia.
    Edit: fixed some typos

Wow, daniel's analysis of this show - especially things like the lamp's monologue about what happens when we die - is eerily close to mine, and I think a lot closer to target than most competing theories. Glad to see I'm not the only one who has been thinking about a connection to the reincarnated objects, the "pound" that Duck got at the end of "Jobs", and so on! I think I'm detecting a weird undercurrent of "Eastern Mysticism" in the vein of Theosophy running through the TV episodes at least, including hints of the characters reincarnating on different planes of reality (in allegory as the different floors of the house) to perfect their lives, a reference to a Shambhala-like city of "ascended masters" at the center of the earth, gurus and yogis offering spiritual enlightenment (with mixed results), and so on. In the finale, Yellow Guy effectively makes an astral journey to speak with an alien intelligence in a dream-quest, and brings back advanced wisdom from a sort of Akashic record, though its meaning is forgotten shortly upon waking up from his trance, and it's shredded as the characters return to the routine of their stunted spiritual development... I really ought to try re-watching the web series with that in mind, to see whether it holds up even in the earlier episodes....

“A common complaint I’ve seen online about the new series is that the songs aren’t as good.”
I think they’re all either fun, catchy, or interesting, but sometimes they don’t even rhyme, and that seems like a big oversight…unless that was the creator’s intentions. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the songs weren’t meant to rhyme as a way to make people like me mildly upset.

My personal interpretation of this episode is that it is a commentary on how the entertainment industry and us, the viewers, responds to the death of a famous actor :
Duck's grave reading "David" despite it not being his name could be seen as a metaphor of how people remember the actors that have passed for who they played rather than who they were, a recent example being Robbie Coltrane's death, mainly attributed to "the death of Hagrid" on social medias, so in Duck's case David could be the name of his main role. Stains Edward the Forever Boy replacing Duck represents the producers finding a new actor to replace the previous one if he had been part of an ongoing series, with the new actor not meeting up with the expectations of the public eye and falling flat at being himself, being forced to become a soulless duplicate of the original, meanwhile, Yellow digging out Duck can be seen as the industry using archived footage to "revive" a dead actor for commercials or releasing works post-mortem, desecrating their grave long after their death

My only argument that the original duck killed stain, is that even right up until meeting og duck, stain still hadn't learned anything about duck's personality and was overall really innocent. Stain having the whole "there can only be one" mentality is odd, in contrast to the og duck where that action would make perfect sense.

the show is about a little boy his bird and toy ragdoll, as told by his mother. the green one can die and come back because parents replace kids dead animals all the time. Either the boys is dead and this is his grief stricken mother creating adventures for her long gone son, or he's the victim of some sort of head trauma which prevents him from remembering anything.

I only made the realization here (possibly incorrectly) that the newspaper Opinoin, is a nod to the many typos made by the actual newspaper The Guardian, (The Grauniad, which was constantly mentioned in the actual publication Private Eye.
Also, did anyone else think the song yellow guy was singing on his way to dig up duck, sounded like an unreleased track by Joy Division?
Ah, theories. They provide much entertainment for us all.

People think that Yellow Guy is David not just because he has a D on his shirt and the grave is for David, there is also the fact that Lesley says that Yellow Guy is not her real son, the fact he gets hit by a car in the dream sequence, and the car has the license plate go to Lesley, also yes I am putting in lore, I do not know why

While you made some extra observations that give a little credit to Duck being the one to die, like the maggots in the blood, I personally believe it’s clear Stain is the one that dies. Stain as Duck has a slightly rounder, fluffier looking head and melds transition from head to neck/torso is less defined. If you compare the shot of Stain Duck with the shot the Duck right before decapitation, it matches him better than Original Duck
