Learn the hidden secrets of the Don't Hug Me I'm Scared tv series, and hear the greatest jokes of all time while you do so. Red walks into a bar. He says, "-ow". Classic.
But what you don't know is that Owen Wilson walked into the same bar only seconds before. And he said "ka-ch--". Classic.

I'm 99% sure that the guy Yellow finds in the road is his uncle. He looks like Roy because we know that uncles are like fathers, but cheekier and further away.
I did not think of that, it would be very interesting if that were the case

fun fact!! in the second episode when yg shows the shepherd's pie list you can read "rat egg" which then in the fifth episode it shows that "rat" is the way leslie refers to birds, I think it's funny XDXD
And then theirs Yellow’s maiden name, which is “Rat eyes”.

It's definitely oil. He says it's "forged far beneath the earth, with the last remnants of the ancient ones". So you know, oil comes from dinosaurs.
You bringing up that yellow seems to not want to do things on his own really made me realize I relate to this character a lot more then I thought I did. I grow and mature at a very slow rate, and because of this I rely heavily on the people around me. I would like a job, I want to have a family. But I can't do that when I'm still at the mental age of a preteen, and it sucks. I'm perfectly content with people telling me what I should do and what decisions I should make. I'm also happy with staying in my house with my family and not leaving. So I really feel for yellow in this episode, he's uncomfortable and he wants to go back to his safe space.
All of these characters are neurodivergent in some way, this is law
Yes this is because I relate to and absolutely *adore* Red Guy. And yes this means we have to find our Duck kinnie to complete the trio /j
yeah this hit me like a truck ngl. i grew up pretty neglected emotionally and undiagnosed autistic and it affects me now to this day as a 27-year-old who is woefully unprepared for the world around him. :( my wife has helped me a lot, we've known each other for a decade now and she's helped me try and get up to speed better about Adult Stuff and social norms but it's an uphill battle for me internally sometimes. but like, left to my own devices i am utterly LOST and it feels like there was some sort of instruction manual for Doing Stuff Alone that i definitely didn't read

@@AoiUsagiOtoko yellow guy cult
nothing like being emotionally neglected as a child so you comfort yourself by imagining people who love you instead of dealing with the outside world!
Damn, you guys too, huh?
It hadn't occurred to me before, but I think there is a connection between the black drinks.
Yellow is the only one offered the drink in Jobs, he drinks it from the flask in Transport, and in Electricity we see he's battery-powered. It's possible that he's totally mechanical, hence why he's offered the black drink which is believed to be oil or petrol given it's forged from the remains of the ancient ones (fossil fuels).
This could play into a lot of other stuff. Maybe the real Yellow did die, hit by a car, and this is a recreation of him...a recreation of Lesley's son.
If I recall correctly (I might not), there are no extras of Yellow shown outside of the animated sequence. I don't remember him having any spares in Lesley's draw. It's possible that unlike the others, he's not replaced. He remembers things, he's not reset. He can't be replaced, not again.
In fact in "Jobs" Duck is also offered "hot black water" after he returns from his visit to the Carehound, great theory though.
I love episode 5. The looming sense of dread that slowly builds up throughout the episode and reaches its peak in the mulhoven section and the aftermath of it is climaxed in a way I never would have expected. I remember first watching it in its entirety, and seeing red guy finally break down and snap is something I never knew I needed to see.
i think probably the deepest that the bird gift at the end of the daydream goes is like, birds cliche-ly represent freedom, lesley dismisses and tries to convince yellow its worthless, but yellow chases it and it gets him killed
ok this is gonna sound weird but stay w me for a sec.
maybe leslie doesn't replace yellow not just bc he's her 'favorite,' - she trusts the old batteries to do their job in holding back his knowledge enough to prevent him from understanding the world around him. Bc she knows that even if he does remember these things, he won't be able to tell his friends. I think its kind of a metaphor of being a child, which is what yellow represents - u see these horrific things and aren't able to tell anyone bc u don't have the words to explain them, so u end up supressing ur memories abt what happened. But in the back of his mind, he always remembers... dundunDUNN
HOLY FUCK great theory. the depending on the old batteries thing makes sense. it’s pretty obvious in the webseries that he at least somewhat remembers the past lessons, while in the show its like there was.. nothing. nothing before, nothing after, other than a few small things. (like how he remembered duck telling him that soldiers are immortal etc etc) i imagine that batteries definitely get worse in a span of 6 years.
I think that the hot black waters are different
In the first episode I think it's a coffee gag, akin to grolton and hovris hearing up some water as a celebration (a play on putting the kettle on), whereas we know that the black liquid drunk by the train is forged from the remnants of the ancient ones, and coffee isn't really that old...

@@Yosef1952 Exactly! :)
I think Yellow's gift is a reference to ep 3 of the original series, bc when the butterfly shows up Yellow says "a little baby pigeon" and that's his actual gift. Thus, the episode being about love and the voiceover (Leslie) turning bored and calling it a rat, could be undermining Yellow and neglecting mother's love, which lead to David dying somehow. (?)
I always believed what Yellow guy was saying at the start of the episode wasn't a future event but rather the events of episode 4 where he jumped into his sub consciousness where he internally witnesses "another one of himself" and the other guys (that being his imaginary friends) and the lumpy one being the lump on the ground yellow receives an award for jumping over
How did I never think of this? It's genius!
@the man the whiny little one is duck

I honestly can't tell if MatPat is actually making terrible theories out of literally nothing and considering them fact because he genuinely believes them or if he's leaning into that as his brand ironically. I'd like to believe it's the former
I think sometimes they just need to keep things on schedule and will make something half baked, which is totally fine everything on the theory channels is just speculation. As much as I might riff on them, I do like a lot of their videos. Another thing to consider is that matpat is just a figurehead for a channel that has a team of multiple writers, so it would make sense if there were some inaccuracies or contradictions.
But yeah, they made a 15 minute series dissertation of a 50 second trailer that ended up being at least a little off the mark. Or a lot lol.
@@danielprofeta Yeah that's 100% fair. I like his theory video's too! He brings up loads of interesting points and I agree with him on a lot, particularly with dhmis. I hadn't really considered how scheduling/using a whole team of researchers would factor into that
I think that some of the dhmis trailer theories were inaccurate because the original series is much more of a metaphor for something. There's different ideas as to what it represents, but most of the theories I've seen about it see it as some sort of metaphor. But the new series is much more about the characters and their story, so any theory made with the assumption that the new series would be like the old series would be false because the format of the story is different.
I think his videos are just interesting thought experiments. Like it’s enjoyable for him to take an idea and expand on it.
I think it’s more that if you’re making an assertion, you say it like it’s fact. I think if you challenged matpat on the discrepancies he wouldn’t stand by some of the theories, maybe correcting them in a future video with more information. I don’t think he would get as many views if he didn’t say his thoughts with confidence. As long as it evolves with new information I think it’s a good jumping off point for conversations and rebuttals.
Your impressions just never fail
I’m here for the Pandora’s box reference. :)

I think red guy finally came to the same conclusion duck came to from episode 5 in the original video series, duck tried to leave but died and didn’t come back until the show so now he has accepted how everything is, and now red has came to accept it too
I’ve always thought that the pastor character who gives Yellow the bird looks a lot like the coffin teacher. Idk, his nose is similar, his goatee reminds me of the structure of the coffin’s mouth, and they have similar “cheery & eerie” vibes. It would make sense for the character that is essentially the grim reaper to give Yellow the animal that leads him to his death.
Good alliteration, and good observation
4:07 the liquid is definitely oil. The only people who drink it are yellow guy, who we later see uses batteries, the machine people in jobs such as Duncan, and the train, a machine. Also the description he gives of the drink makes sense with oil if you substitute "the ancient ones" with dinosaurs/prehistoric trees

My pet theory on why the characters don't remember pproperly between episodes is that something abt their world makes their memories fuzzy or inconsistent. We see Duck being replaced in episode 6 and then once we meet back up with him he still remembers what was happening before. I think they have the memories, but they either get very fuzzy between episodes or they are harder to remember🍊
The time child costume looks like it took so long to make just for that short gag.
the amount of flashbacks ive had to DHMIS 5 is actually scary
The way you described Yellows ability to process what’s around him makes me think this show is actually Eldritch horror. Not like great monsters and crap- but like being able to understand and then losing that variable of consciousness into fragments instead of a whole picture.
Best way I’ve heard Eldritch described is like… you’re an ant. And you’re on a computer circuit and crud, and all you see is like shapes that don’t need understanding. It’s a shape. (Writing this gave me small flashbacks to ducks cube thing in the workplace)
But then in Eldritch terms you suddenly go from being an ant, to being a human. Gaining full understanding of your surroundings, what the circuit means, it’s use, all that’s in it. And then suddenly you’re an ant again, and echos of your memory of what it all meant but none of it is as full or clear as it used to be. It’s practically gone. It’s not just a shape, but what is it again?
HUGELY important detail, the pills are also in their bathroom during the big day song (alongside what is totally battery fluid, a real thing for sure)
If I remember correctly the You're Blocked tweet was a reference to the computer episode and they tweeted at the guy again saying he would get something.
“Whats inside the house is far more terrifying and isolated than anything he knew inside the house” perfect just perfect

"Deep beneath the earth, made from the remains of the ancient ones."
Yay, petroleum.
My brain made an observation that has 0 to do with the plot and was certainly not intended and it's likely that I'm just very stupid. Anyways, the idea is that since Lesley referred to a bird as a rat, it could be likely that yellow guy also thinks that birds are rats. Going back to his maiden name, rat-eyes, I saw a bit of a funky detail. If you replace rat with bird, you get bird-eyes. Like bird's-eye? As in bird's-eye view?? 🤨
It is pretty cool that it kinda lines up. Also that bird's-eye view is, straight from Google, *an elevated view of an object or location from a very steep viewing angle, creating a perspective as if the observer were a bird in flight looking downwards.* So observing something from a tilted view that's like you're looking down on something?? Seems kinda familiar- 😱
This is a joke observation. Everything is /j. Unless this is a good observation in which case it is /srs.
I actually really like this

Absolutely love how much you lambast matpat in these. Dude loves him dogmas way too much

I am mainly just kidding around though, I don't hate him or anything, just thought that video dissecting the trailer was funny in retrospect
Ok so this is a stretch but the map says dead horse as it's being thrown out. I was going to make a joke about it saying the name of my favourite sea shanty but I noticed some parallels.
Dead horse is about the singers robbing an old man and describing how they're going to ride his horse until it dies, then they detail what parts of the horse are going to be used in maintaining their ship.
This is weirdly similar to what happens to Mr Choo-Choo, an old man who is ridden to his death then used as fuel for a fire.
It probably doesn't mean anything, bit I think it's cool.
That's interesting, I did not know it was a sea shanty! I mainly thought of the saying "beating a dead horse" cause the gps was repeating itself
I don't think Lesley is losing control, I think them "escaping" was orchestrated by her. It's not like there was any danger of them truly escaping, since as she says, "the journey always leads back home" plus it's rather convenient that the teacher dies just as he's a car with them inside. I think she could see Red going stir crazy and thought this would be a good lesson for him, see what's out there, see that their prison is so much better.

Whereas in this one, all the down time just made me more anxious for when things would get ruined for Red Guy, because you can just tell they're not going to really escape, especially when they start drawing parallels to the Wallace and Gromit parody
Also the meandering bits are filled with jokes whereas in the friends one the meandering bits are *between* jokes, with Warren being a creep and me just waiting for it to get funny/scary again
