I like the touch that in the original youtube series, the computer takes over the lesson when it seems like it's supposed to be the globe, and then in this episode you think the computer is going to be the teacher and then Warren takes over.
@HypnoSpace Outlaw Yeah it's also pretty notable that in both situations the potential teacher gets replaced with some more actively malicious characters. The briefcase, coffin, train, and electricity all seem like they were meant to be there by *someone* (maybe the puppeteer) but the twins and warren seemed out of place for one reason or another and both seemed to replace another figure. Makes me wonder if they were inserted by someone else.
@@KalinTheZolaWell there is only really two people (maybe more) who have been seen controlling the show, Roy and Leslie. I think anytime its taken over Roy is the one who caused it. Through out the entirety of the web series (where roy is supposed to be in full control) Every episode something bad happens to yellow guy, the only two episodes where he is hurt by the teachers is in the family and friendship episodes. where it gets highjacked. This also goes back to that interview where roy says he wants to punish his son. According to the theory that yellow guy is a stand in for Leslie’s son it makes sense that her teachers aren’t directly hurting him.
@@waterwaveybaby It might have been censored by Warren as he appeared just after the incident, it probably wasn't even all that 'bad', possibly similar to the insults Warren got from the group. As soon as Warren got killed duck called yellow guy an idiot which in return have yellow guy giving a similar yet more angry reaction when they did insult yellow guy in the beginning.
Warren feels uncomfortably familiar. The ignoring your boundaries, being bossy, the failing attempts at acting confident. I can't say I've ever met a Warren, but I've certainly met people with those aspects.
Whenever I try to have personal space or do things I like such as drawing at school, I get very annoyed with having to deal with a group of girls and classmates especially that I used to have in the past that are now in lower sets that act like my "friends" who behave like Warrens with ignoring boundaries and discomfort (discomfort especially with names or doing things you don't like doing). I only talk with people I feel comfortable with, who I trust, their understanding with other's boundaries or help me with anything calming whenever I feel sad.
Fun fact: the computer mentor who returns in this episode, actually has a completely different puppet unlike other past teachers who got cameos , this is because the original computer puppet got ruined by the paint they used in that singular scene where he had a freak out over being touched in dhmis 4 .
@@Mikescool444 yeah they poured oil out of his eyes and mouth and some seams which ruined his puppet. the oil-covered colin puppet can be seen in a, i think, series rolecall picture. idk what to call it, like on of those things where every cast member from a show takes a group photo.
Given that warren insisted on that “restaurant style meal”, I like to think he’d be the kind of guy Who shows up , gets the most expensive thing on the menu and expects his “friends” to pick up the tab for him. Guilt tripping them all the while.
The only thing I'd workshop about this is that Warren orders the salmon, says something about how he needs it because he's an eagle, implies that you're racist for not believing he's an eagle who needs salmon, then expects you to split the check evenly even though you got chicken fingers
Warren The Eagle getting killed at the end was very unexpected and I was startled at how revolting he became, but that's what happens when a worm invites itself in your brain...it begins to rot.
Naw maybe it's Other way around Ya here the Worm is like the Devil If you invite the Devil in It will Take control of you Make you do things That you'll Regret Sooner Or Later Eventually it will Happen to Any of us Prevention Is worth Pounds of Cure......
Warren didn't JUST try and make himself out to be a hero. If he wasn't the hero, he was the victim, and it was EVERYONE ELSE that was the problem, they were "bad friends" and _clearly_ Warren didn't do anything wrong to earn his "mistreatment" despite it clear he's intolerable to be around. It's such clever writing!
kinda like the guy from my school that SA'd me and suddenly he's a victim cause everyone hates him for "no reason" :) (lmfao sorry for just dropping that like that but it does REALLY remind me of that kind of person)
this episode is my favourite because it depicts the type of emotionally abusive people who pass disrespecting boundaries as “closeness” then play victim
hate to take it this way, but that really reminds me of the guy that SA'd me.. he doesn't respect ANYONES personal space or any boundaries, but no, he's the victim because "everyone hates him for no reason"
@@thine. your perspective is absolutely valid and i’m so sorry you had to endure such horrible things. Creepy narcissistic men act just like this and you are correct in seeing Warren this way. i am proud of you for persevering ❤️
This is a really good representation of my last relationship. The guy was definitely like Warren, but I stuck around for three years bc I loved him. Until he left bc he was cheating on me and didn't tell me til after he dumped me.
I had a friend exactly like Warren who basically abused me and ruined a lot of things for me until she started grooming a teen. It's weird how she's semi internet famous too now, if anyone knew how terrible she was behind the "awww she's annoying but so sweet!" facade, all you have is a foul monster.
Fun fact: In much of North America, Earthworms (like Warren) are an invasive species and cause a lot of harm to native populations, especially in forests and national parks. In undergrad, I did a pretty long project that involved counting and cataloging Earthworms and their effects on areas surrounding Lake Michigan. Earthworms alter the quality and composition of soil while breaking down the leaf litter that is so important to the health of a forest. They were initially wipped out by the advancing glaciers in the last ice age. So forest ecosystems in Canada and the northern US evolved for over 10,000 years without them. Many insects and even some vertebrates spend part or all of their lives in the leaf litter. Earthworms are destroying their habitat. The choice of making Warren an Earthworm is more deliberate than many may realize. Much like his real-world counterparts, Warren has shown up in a place where he isn't supposed to be and starts hurting the group dynamic. **Edit** OK Yes, the UK thing has been pointed out a while back. We agreed that even though I was way over analyzing things, it is still a funny coincidence.
@@SleMels135 In some regions, like how Goldfish are originated from China, it's good in that country but when it's in America it's considered Invasive because it's not in their Natural Habitat.

i actually kinda love the cgi animation stylized to look like stopmotion it’s uncanny (which i do think was intentional) and it’s a concept i’ve literally never seen before which makes it so unique
@@waffler-yz3gw LOL Hell no! It was computer animation that just so happened to look and feel like stop motion. If you want more info, I recommend checking out the video "How fan films shaped The Lego Movie" by Vox. It's really good and insightful.
I personally think Red and Duck actually didn't say anything absolutely terrible, it just sounds horrible to Yellow because he's already feeling vulnerable. It's bleeped after all so we don't hear it and we all know bleeping something innocuous in a sentence makes the whole thing sound really bad. This also works with the lesson at the end where the problem is concluded to be a worm in his brain making everything seem worse because that's representing the negative voice in our own head. To me this is the episode that actually teaches something, then at the very end subverts the expectation and showing they learned nothing.
It could also be Warren being the one bleeping out the words, given his strange ability to literally video edit the situations, like pausing and rewinding or plastering his mouth onto others. Using said abilities to make Duck and Red look more rotten than they actually are.
Watching The scene, it's likely, The way The phrase is structured there aren't many curse words that deserve a bleep that would fit there, they could say dumbass or something like that but The bleep would end too soon, and they could say cunt but It doesn't fit The moment, so i agree with you
The format is just like the usual old shows where all the characters just go back to status quo as the punchline, so the next episode can start with a clean plate again.
It's kind of funny because I've been trying to live under that quote "Good friendship is about respecting what everyone wants to do", especially in a recent series I started doing. But a friend of mine was saying "That worm has a toxic mindset." And I realize that, but I just meant when taking the quote out of the context of the scene
That’s what I find interesting is that If you look at all of his lessons they actually are good lessons but it’s just he doesn’t follow any of them haha
He's toxic but he's right at least in his words. The issue with his toxicity is not what his advice says, which he likely got from the Ok Stop group he was from. The issue is that he doesn't practice what he preaches. He reinterprets the message as other people needing to respect what *he* wants to do whether or not he realizes that's what he's doing.
@@KalinTheZola Thats... honestly a problem that I fear I have myself. That I don't respect what my friends want enough of the time. I really hope I don't

video just came out but i must say something: i feel like it's the smaller creepy and unusual things that provide a big chunk of the creepiness for the tv series, like the briefcase guy eating extremely fast, red guy's teeth, warren getting those bloodshot, k. rool-like eyes, red guy mashing the keyboard to type yellow's name, etc.
@@jawaboi9698 to be honest i can't really explain why i found the scene so unusual, i mean it's not a creepy scene on its own but it definitely contributes to the overall feeling of weirdness
when I saw this episode, I always had this feeling that Warren was more of those narcissistic friends (the ones that makes other people's problems about themselves, only help if things like money is promised, etc. ) don't know if narcissist is the right word to call Warren, but he gives off a similar feeling of one
I think it applies. Warren, despite being lonely, is still very self centered and never takes responsibility for his part in his relationships falling apart; in his eyes, it’s always the other person who was wrong, and he is blameless. He’s so selfish that he can’t even process the idea that, perhaps, his loneliness is because his personality drives others away.
@@gregjayonnaise8314 I think the older brother is a perfect example of Warrens narcissism. The older brother is shy, and gets yelled at by Warren for being too quiet, and instead of snapping back, he just takes it. This culminates in the older brother cutting his own throat open using a piece of glass, an example of how toxic friends can drive you to dark places.
I noticed warren was definitely much more open and “active” when he enters the brain friends world, and I believe it’s because that’s how his own behavior looks like. On the outside, he seems like some loner with bad social skills and common sense, desperate for any chance at a friendship, while on the inside, he is aggressive and abrasive, wanting full control of the situation and wanting only the admiration of those below him.
@@Mikescool444 I consider him a covert narcissist with some grandiose tendencies. NPD is really complicated and looks different to everyone with NPD but he fits the criteria. With his bad social skills there is a theory that he is also autistic and autistic people can comorbid with PDs due to social trauma with being Autistic.
"And the worm in my brain tells me that the documents I've been forging have resulted in many deaths. But I know that's just silly." Probably my favorite line from the series.
I used to have friends like Warren and it took me a while to realize how toxic it was, they were exactly like him, getting mad when I told them off about them doing something wrong even threatend me when I cut them off, they manpiulated me so much in the friendship it twisted my view of friends. I had a friend just like Warren, who i cut off at the start of this year. That friendship has genuinely traumatized me. Watching this episode, was a crazy experience because i saw my ex friend in Warren. While i feel bad for my ex friend- they were toxic and honestly abusive.

I had a friend like him too who creeped me out because he got very obsessive with me to almost a sexual degree. The last time I saw him after I cut him off, he called me racial slurs (I'm a brown mexican)
It seems like Warren is trying to get Yellow guy to trust him, "defending" him from his "bad friends", saying that they're wrong for hurting him, wich, they are, but we see how Warren's intentions aren't to "protect" the yellow kid, he's trying to get control over him. The moment the brain friends call him an eagle, showing that yellow tries to welcome him at least a little bit, Warren sees the perfect oportunity to take control, they think he's a cool wonderful eagle, not as the others that see him as a simple worm. Also, we see that he doesn't really believe he's an eagle, when the brain friends call him "Mr eagle" he says "I'M NOT AN EA-" until he realizes what's happening and continues with his lie, and also does this when he says "How can a confident handsome wor- EAGLE", like he doesn't remember who he is supposed to be, he forgets his own lie for a moment. This is probably also for control, he lies abt being an eagle to trick ppl into thinking he's more powerful than he actually is. Btw, i'm saying all of this because I had a friend like Warren, who did all of the things I mentioned, and even more than that, he made me almost kms, and he knew what he was doing at all times, the things he did weren't harmless mistakes, they we're harmful actions that made me suffer even a year after ending that "friendship". I know how this type of person is, and that's also why I hate Warren so much, and I can't have empathy for him, he doesn't want friends, he want's puppets that make everything he wants and never disagree with him.
You hit the nail on the head. This episode is extremely underrated with all of the commentary it has on these types of people that are never called out (as you mentioned). I also think there might be lore implications with the “imaginary” older brother coming to the felt puppet world right at the end of the episode, shocking yellow in the process. Perhaps yellow really did have an older brother who was shy and reserved and committed suicide due to someone like warren. Yellow is reminded of what caused his older brothers’ death in his own mind (the brain friends land). Maybe that’s another reason Leslie is totally insane and grieving for the entire series.
I think it's more about what it means for the general psychology of Yellow Guy. In general I found it both sweet and really sad that some of his "favorite thoughts" were things as mundane as his first tooth and him taking bubble baths--what does that say about his life if those are some of the happiest things he can think of? The "shy imaginary older brother" is, imo, him trying to replace the deficit in his own family--from what we've seen, all he really has is a cannibalistic, greedy abusive dad who doesn't care about his safety. And if Lesley is his mom, that might mean his family situation is even worse. An "older brother" fills the role of 'protector' that his dad doesn't live up to, without directly replacing his dad, who he loves. The shyness means that he's gentle, not threatening, and generally a sensitive, nice guy--all things that his father is not, and that Yellow Guy doesn't get very often from other relationships in his life.
@@zaynab-to-a I think the shy older brother is actually Yellow just wanting someone underneath him as in the DMIS universe, he's pretty much at the bottom of any pecking order. However, Yellow seems to want to protect the younger brother rather than order him around, which suggests he's altruistic, but powerless to act on those impulses.
@@connordarvall8482 that sounds mostly true, except he never really seems to care all that much that he's at the bottom of the totem pole, since as Smart Yellow Guy, he pretty much admits to Normal Yellow Guy that before becoming Smart, he saw them as "in charge of him" and seemed to never have questioned that arrangement before ("does this mean they aren't in charge of us anymore?" "maybe they never were"). Imo the "someone under him" theory would make more sense if it was a little brother, since part of the dynamic he experiences in real life comes from his (mental?) age being younger than the other two.
What I liked about this episode was the dual lesson being taught, mainly how the worm simultaneously represents annoying friends that abuse their friendships for personal gain, with the suffering of everyone else, AND the worm being the inner monologue in out own head, our ego always wanting to make ourselves be above everyone else, making up arguments where we immediately win and our opponents immediately feel ashamed. I love it when a creator can teach 2 ideas in one.
Legit used to have a warren in my brain that I always had to “suppress” by simply being very chill and unoffended. Thankfully managed to get rid of that one.
I know episode 4 is like the least liked by the fandom, but it’s always been my favorite because of its message and themes about anxiety and dealing with toxic friends. Plus the ending is fucking hilarious 😂
I was genuinely surprised that this episode was so polarizing, cause I felt like it probably had the most clear message and one that anybody can relate to, every one knows a Warren
@@princeblackelf4265 I think it was disliked because the main trio broke character a few times, like when Red and Duck cussed Yellow Guy out. We weren't surprised when Duck did it, but me and a lot of others didn't like Red doing it because he's usually a likable character.
@@CMBGAMER2018TV I wondered if they didn't actually cuss Yellow guy out, but it was just the censorship (by Warren breaking the 4th wall) that caused Yellow to think his friends said something horrible to him.
This episode has always felt like a thematic sequel to yellow’s story in the “love” episode of the RUclips series to me. With yellow getting upset at his friend’s seeming cruelty and trying to find a place where he feels supported in both, except this time he and his friends seem to actually make some progress reconciling at the end, before the all out brawl of course lol
Yes. I have met someone like that, and was stuck in a possessive gaslighting friendship for 2 years. Everyone I know thinks they're harmless and friendly, and I thought the same thing till I was declared a best friend five months into the friendship. The thing was, they caught me in the most vulnerable I've ever been in my life, when I'd just lost two past friends that I've had since third grade and lost my grandmother.
They probably started worming their way inside your friendship circle because you currently were vonurable and meeker than usual. Narcissists can smell pray from miles away...
@@maximillian1109Well, not all toxic friends are narcissistic (by that I mean NPD). People with NPD can actually live a happy life with therapy and medication. Also, People make mistakes and I realized I was a toxic friend at one point, but I’m not narcissistic at all
I feel like the trio are in separate states of awareness of their situation. Duck was very aware of the situation in ep 1, in ep 2 Yellow guy rejects the entire lesson, in ep 3 red guy rejects the very notion of their group. They are continually reset, but never at the same time because if they were all able to work together they may just be able to escape.
What I notice is Duck is the quickest to notice anything out of place, but is too narrow-minded to do anything with the information, Red has definite goals, but isn't aware enough of his surroundings to know how to achieve them and Yellow technically has the knowledge to help them both, but has been intentionally altered to be clueless as he is the least able to resist the show's denizens. All three of them have the pieces needed to escape, but are trapped by their own flaws.
That is interesting that that seems to go with each of their respective meanings, where Duck is meant to show old where he catches on stuff little slow but is too comfortable to change it or is adamant on changing it because he doesn't like it, Red Guy meaning to represent adolescent where he catches on faster and wants to change but is still gullible enough and stubborn where that's his downfall, and Yellow Guy youth where he's not exactly fast and not exactly slow, but he does have the capacity to change it but is the most gullible and vulnerable to things. It's very interesting indeed...
I don't believe Warren actually paused the trio in the beginning. Later in the episode you can see him talking to the "audience" but from the trio's perspective. And they aren't frozen. I think more likely is that Warren is making that all up in his head and only pretending he's stopping time to talk to an audience
I think another reason this episode is controversial is I see a lot of people trying to slot the puppets into a bit of a found family dynamic, or at least want to see these characters find solace in their bonds to make it through the "absolute nightmare" that is their situation. However, the Friendship episode is by far where they're the meanest with each other, with even the one moment of solace being cut off with an actual physical fight. It makes sense the creators would do that, as it's quite ironic and very funny (this is my favorite episode because of how often it makes me laugh), but I've seen a lot of people get put off by how meanspirited it is when they want to see the characters take care of each other.
I think some of it might be people have had experiences of people being suddenly mean to them and don’t like some characters they like doing that, or don’t like it happening to characters they like.
I think what I like most of this episode is the interpretation (I don't know how popular this is, it's just how I view the episode) that Warren represents mental affliction/anxiety. One may attempt to escape into their mind when their life is full of trauma, and we can certainly say that applies to Yellow. The worm in his brain, his anxiety represented by Warren, appears after his friends insult him and convinces him that Red Guy and Duck aren't his real friends. He tries to escape into his mind to protect himself and disassociate from his real life situation, but inevitably that worm in his brain continues to wreak havoc and turn his happy place into just another place full of misery. The place he once escaped to no longer works no matter how much he tries to avoid Warrenn/his anxious feelings, and inevitably all his imaginary friends get to where they can't stand to be around YELLOW due to the behavior of the worm in his brain. As someone who's dealt with a ton of anxiety over my lifetime, it sometimes results in my second guessing all my friendships and relationships. Surely my friends secretly hate me and want nothing to do with me. If you really believe that like I did (and sometimes still struggle with) that the people in my life hate me, I would start to get desperate and more forceful to try and keep my friends around which only resulted in pushing them away further. In the end though, Red Guy and Duck came through for him showing that to an extent they really *do* love and care for Yellow as a friend. Granted they all try to kill each other at the end, but you get what I mean. Also noteworthy they needed advice from the doctor on the computer to get help with Yellow.
Howdy, Happy holidays! So this was supposed to be out 2 weeks ago but got sick with Warren’s cooties and it ended up being wayy longer than originally intended, I wrote this one 2 months after the others so hopefully it doesn’t feel too different from the other vids, but yeee thanks for watching! Its really been hard for me overall to have my own personal “worst” episode of this season of DHMIS, because I feel like all six of them just have so much fantastic writing, set design, surreal horror/humor, etc. put into them that I’ve found so much to enjoy about all of them. And that DEFINITELY extends to this episode as well. I love how its perhaps the most message-oriented episodes of the show, because the type of toxic friendships that Warren represents are all to common in the real world. And it was so fun watching the DHMIS writers/crew put such a surreal spin on this idea. I also LOVE the fairly large role that they give to Colin, as he’s probably the Original Series teacher they they give the MOST lines to in this show. And he also actually joins in the three of them on insulting Warren/calling out his lies. That “Freelancers deserve to die” line is also one of the funniest lines of the series, and I find it interesting how this is the only episode where the Teacher for them is ready to leave, but its Red Guy who actually gets him to stay. Overall, I feel like this is an over-hated episode as well.
Watching warren is awkward and painful because we’re actually really similar and seeing him desperately trying to look impressive and make ‘friends’ while also being ridiculed constantly is just uncomfortable. It reminds me of why I never socialize with people. Luckily if you’re like warren but you’re aware of it you can stop yourself from harming or manipulating others. On another subject, I love the transformation of warren and the metaphors being used with the hyper realism at the end being connected with coming to the realization of how threatening and potentially dangerous he actually is. Bit random for me to comment here but I felt like I wanted to say something so here I am- aaaa-
You’ve obviously got the self reflectiveness and thoughtfulness to be impressive. Why do you feel the need to “try” to be?? And if you are capable of “admitting” that you’re like him, then you probably aren’t so like him. I don’t know 🤷♂️ though
@@ofmonadsandnomads9500 I think it's the thought process of being like him. The urges (?) if that makes any sense to ignore ur friends so it's about you. Or at least that's my perspective
i love how this episode portrays a different kind of toxic friendship, no verbal or physical abuse, but a friend who is selfish and only thinks of themselves and forces everyone to do what they want without considering everyone else's feelings.
I don't know how often this gets noticed but if you listen to their little argument (which is difficut when they're shouting over eachother) they do try to do better, even taking good parts of Warrens advice before the whole thing decends into madness lol. First Red tries to calmly tell Duck not to be so mean: 'we said we wern't going to talk to him like that anymore'. Then yellow stands up for himself: 'Hey you can't talk to me like that!'. I tend to lose track of it after Reds 'I'm dealing with it' but from transcrpts other people made it seems to stop making sense after that point.
As someone who just got out of a 10 year long toxic friendship it is nice but also sad to see how accurate Warren is Representation like this is nice to see and really helps to cope with stuff like this
I feel Warren's childhood experiences of perceived rejection have been clouded by bitterness and loneliness. I believe yellow (as the childlike member) during his descent into disassociation is getting further into becoming like Warren. If yellow felt duck/red guy were just mean friends, saw his brain friends as abandoning him then he could very well become bitter and toxic like Warren, reflected by the void with nothing but the two left, yellow guy looking like himself again but on the cusp of being consumed in it all. I also feel Warren being generally disliked, breaking the 3rd wall and creating a sense of grandeur is all to confront the audience with the edifices we create to feel loved and worthy to others and how it ends up driving people away. There's a grain of sympathy in Warren because we're all vulnerable to feelings of isolation and the disgust is used to find lessons in his flaws.
in middle school I had a "friend" a lot like that worm. He was extremely toxic. He expected to be able to to whatever he wanted to to me and if I did anything to tease him back he'd stop talking to me completely. The last straw was when he decided to make a public video about me. I wasnt taking his usual "im sorry" after that.
Same here I had someone like that as a friend that I no longer consider to be my friend because basically he was one of those people that love to trash talk people while also getting mad whenever you do it back to him. Complete hypocrite.
as unhappy and fucked up as this episode's ending is, i think it's quite sweet that red defended yellow when duck berated him after they all agreed to be nicer
I grew up with an extremely abusive, overbearing mom and this episode felt so intimate and accurate to some of the way I’ve coped with that experience. I kind of felt violated…
I've been looking forward to this video for weeks, and its absolutely one of my favorite episodes in the series. It helps if you've experienced a "warren" in your life before, which makes the themes pop out more. And people are like "waah its not scawy" like? Not every episode is going to be shit your pants terrifying, and I rather they try to get a message across through a lighter horror lense than to force Scary for the sake of Scary, yknow? I also love the fake CGI Stop motion style, it sits comfortably between "real" stop motion and early 2000s CGI that ring nostalgic for me.
Friendship is my second favorite episode, but I have a real vendetta against Warren. I've had really horrible friends like him before. Hell, one of them tore apart our long-time friend group by attacking another friend over an issue that was multiple years old at that point, and no one outside them and one other person even knew it was such a massive deal. It's not fun to feel like you're walking on glass around someone who's supposed to care about you.
If you’re worried about being a Warren, you are not Warren. Warren’s cannot perceive the possibility that they are the problem. Bad people don’t worry about being bad.
Idk if there is two replies or my RUclips is acting weird, but if there is. I'm sorry I can't see them. I try looking in the replies and I don't see them. I am truly sorry. I don't know why I can't see the replies. I really don't know.
I think Warren is supposed to symbolize self doubt, insecurities, and maybe even depression. Cus no matter where you are in your mind, trying to escape this inner demon through whatever coping mechanisms that make you happy, he’ll always be there to take that away from you. Tell you that your not good enough, or that no one really cares about you. Near the end of the episode, we see Red in full on denim & he says “The worm in my brain tells me that I don’t have the body type to pull off denim, but I just tell it to pipe down.” This could’ve been a subtle message saying that if you have a Warren in your brain that’s beating you down, just tell him to shut up because you are good enough, you can pull off denim, and your friends really do care about you.
Warren also reminds me of those PSAs we had to watch in elementary school, we had a acting troupe come and they'd have two people act out a scenario (like bullying) then a third person would say "Okay stop, say/do this instead!" To teach kids how to act in stressful situations.
I genuinely remember being in middle school and making characters/ a story with one of my friends, the thing is my friend made their “character” the victim of everything and making everyone love them 🗿 it got annoying and I stopped helping them with the story
The worst thing about this episode was finding out Warren has an entry on the Sexypedia. That aside, this was actually my favorite episode of the series. Thanks for giving it an open minded assessment.
Regarding his “funny JoJo timestop”, he can’t actually stop time, that’s entirely within his own head, as we cut to the trio looking at him during it, confused at his behavior.
I feel the reason warren names himself eagle due to how he acts a bug, bugging and being a controll freak. Cause you can tell his a human but slowly turn to what his use to be friends slowly see him just bugging them to do what warren wants. And became what his friends see him as, a worm.
For me this episode touched a nerve only because I've had friendships that I didn't ask for pushed on me when I was in school. I could be enjoying alone time and here comes a teacher saying "this person is alone so be friends!" This "friendship" was one of the most exhausting things I ever experienced with them never wanting to do anything even confessing that when they met me they thought I was violent because I wasn't "nice enough" and it was either we did what she wanted or we did nothing at all and I felt obligated to stick around because it's what my parents and school expected of me. Even when I formed my own circle of honest friends I still felt obligated to take care of her while she emotionally leeched off of me.
4:52 No, they are not flickbring back-and-forth between 2 frames because they're having a seizure, They're flickering back-and-forth between 2 different frames because it's supposed to look like a paused VHS tape and some video tape pausings look like this
This episode really connected with me as someone who’s been in a toxic friendship. Warren reminded me alot of my old best friend, and I’m glad I got to see Warren getting YEETED!!🌱 Love your videos, by the way. They’re entertaining to watch💕💕💕🌱🌱
I'm currently trying to calm my anxiety as I was dumb and had some caffeine and this video is really helping. Your voice is oddly calming and the video topic is very interesting so it distracts my mind. So thanks for uploading this and I hope you have a great Christmas tomorrow!☺️
Thank you so much for covering this episode! It's strange, you don't go in expecting to relate to anything in DHMIS - it's just a weird, creepy show with puppets, maybe some "lore" if you can find it. I related to this episode so much, though. Those feelings poor Yellow has - I'm so stupid, I let my friends down, no one wants to be my friend, etc - those are the kind of thoughts I've struggled with for years, and still do to some extent. The urge to retreat into your imagination (where no one can hurt you) is so strong... and the fear that you might be like Warren and go out of your way to please people so they don't hate you... It gets to you. =/ I thought the DHMIS team not only handled this topic well, but in a way only they really could - with creepy puppets and subtle jabs at Anti-Bullying PSAs! XD I'm surprised you didn't talk much about what Red and Duck were doing while Yellow was dealing with Warren. Remember, Computer Day only comes once a year for them; if they didn't care, as Warren suggested, they could have just left Yellow to sit in that chair while having the computer all to themselves. But no - they stopped what they were doing as soon as Yellow went all wonky, recruited Warren to "get him out," and spent their precious limited computer time specifically trying to help Yellow. Duck REALLY wanted to see that skeleton on the dark web - but Yellow was more important. =) THAT is what I loved most about this episode. Instead of shoving message down your throat like a kid's show would about the same topic, they did the creepy puppet shenanigans with Warren and demonstrated how Red and Duck really do think of Yellow as their friend and care about his well-being.
Heck, I didn't even know this made it to TV, so I haven't watched the show in years, but it was such a terrifying episode. I know exactly what you mean, feeling like you're annoying everyone. I'll have to check out this show.
This episode is honestly my favorite and one I rewatch the most. I’ve been struggling a lot with depression lately, and it’s so easy for me to believe my friends actually hate me and all I do is inconvenience or hurt people. That’s why I love having Warren, a character I can despise that represents all my negative thoughts. The end song with reassurance helps calm me down sometimes, and remember that people do care and we all have a worm in our brain. The ending credits just mainly makes me laugh since it sounds like some of the bickering(although it’s playful) I have with my friends as well so it doesn’t take away from the happy comforting ending. So TLDR: I very much struggle with a variety of mental illnesses and this episode helps me cope, making it my favorite
A lot of people say that the near end for this episode, the part where Warren becomes that disgusting monster, was forced as a way to add in that horror aspect that matches the whole show. But I think it fits perfectly as it depicts what a toxic friend truly is
Wildly, this is the episode I individually rewatch the most! Precisely for the catharsis and it having the only in-universe actually good and relevant moral lesson (about the worm in your brain, etc.) plus the hysterical hyperviolent offscreen coda.
Although Warren is an annoying selfish ass, I do to a certain extent think red guy and duck are bad friends. In the episode where yellow guy got smart, they were upset and said "your wrong" they could've been proud of him and happy for him but instead they got angry at him. Almost like they enjoyed bringing him down. Just my pov tho. "Maybe...they're not in charge of us anymore. Maybe they never were"-yellow guy
I agree. Like the have enough self-awareness to realize that they're kinda rude, but it's like they can't be bothered to do better. It also often feels like they look down on Yellow.
reminds me of my toxic "friend". people told me to "give him a chance" and GUESS WHAT?! he s*xually assaulted me and constantly threatens me. if your "friend" doesn't respect you, leave.
@@Lianna_Is_Me i technically didn't leave, he psychically left and i never saw him again. i told my family about it. all my siblings were surprised. my brothers were hurt by the fact that i didn't tell them but they comforted me and told me to tell them about stuff like that (so they can "talk" to the person who did that to me). My brothers insisted that i tell mom about what happened so she can take me out of school and put me somewhere else my mom wasn't so calm about it though, she was upset that i didn't tell her and she let me know that, my brother had to step in because she was making me feel uncomfortable unfortunately, i had this weird smiling thing that i do when i bring up something traumatic so.... THAT DIDN'T help my brother and my mom end up fighting and i run upstairs. my oldest brother and my older sister comfort me during this. some days later she bought it up again in a passive aggressive tone. then she said she "cared" about my well being, but in all honesty, i feel like she was just mad that i told my siblings before her because she's always mean to me. sorry if this was too much.
Idk if somebody already said this but I have two theories for Yumperdinker's design having a lot of eyes: 1: A representation that Yellow knows that he is being watched albeit subconciously 2: Yumperdinker is the protector of the mind, since she can see anything from any direction
Man that episode hit the hardest in the feels for me, because at one point in time, I meet someone like Warren. Although I didn't interact with them much, they ALWAYS liked to come talk with me or my sister, so we often pretend to be interested in their conversations. Not to mention they were a huge narcissist and often used their disability as a shield to avoid criticism 😔💔
This episode is actually one of my favorites because it points out the toxic people irl that no one talks about. Like you said at 41:30 people just shrug it off
I love how these videos continue to get longer! I have a personal theory that when yellow got insulted by the other two, whatever they said wasn't actually bad. Hell, it might have not even been negative, it might have been them tryong to segway into the lesson of the episode, about friendship and loving yourself, despite your flaws and the pesky worm in your brain. However, i think that warren (or someone, im leaning closer to warren) intentionally bleeped them out to make it seem worse, as an entryway for HIS version of the lesson. And yellow, being portrayed as childlike and naive, could easily see bleeped out language as the worst possible thing you could say to someone!
15:52 bro was he implying that his friends are bad friends because they wanted to hold a bunny and he's jealous that the bunny is getting all the attention for five minutes? 😂
Something I find interesting is how in the original YT series, Red seemed to be the most aware out of the group. He was the one who actually "escaped" in some way. Yet in the show he always ends up encompassed by each episode's focus. In episode one he disliked the idea of working and stayed away, but after the phone call was sucked in immediately. In episode two he wanted to be dead, he wanted to be the focus of the episode, but by the time passed and Duck was in the grave, he kept reminding Yellow "No he's gone, let's keep things moving with this new guy now." And in Family he fully backed away from Yellow and Duck, fully encapsulated by the idea of family. Makes me wonder ig something happened to him after the YT series ended (if it fits into the canon at all)
Apart of the ususal apreciación of the message, aesthethic and great visual simbolism. This chapter brokes my hearth bro. I never fell so bad for yellow guy, even when he was about to die or at least convinced of that before, he never was so convinced it was all his fault or seemed so tired like here. Maybe is a bit more personal, but inception part where he goes even deeper into his mind almost makes me cry. I fortuantelly can't say I was neglected or that I doubt the people responsable for me at chilhood loved me , but even tought, that felling is very familiar.
To be honest when I saw this episode, it made me look into myself alot. Like I just questioned myself if I was a worm and it opened my eyes a little. Great episode
23:38 fun fact: the guy in the painting is actually screaming because of a thing the painter did, he went crazy and yelled, the guy had an reaction and the painter painted it.
I had toxic friends in high school, girls that only kept me around to bully me and make them feel better about their sad lives. When i tell you this episode resonated with me and just made me upset in the best way possible.
This episode hurts me because I recently realized that I have been a Warren to some of my former friends. I'm trying to get better but watching Warren makes me nervous that I may never learn
I'm halfway through the video atm and you mentioned Yellow dissociation and I'm happy I'm not alone when seeing that. The first time I saw this episode I felt deeply unsettled - I struggle with dissociation whenever things become overwhelming to me. It became a daily occurrence to me during a period of my life that was extremely bad and I dealt with people like Warren. At some point I stopped expressing my thoughts and feelings with them because it hurt less that I was ignored for something I didn't say than getting brushed aside for something I did say. The circumstances obviously were more complicated than that, but in the end the effects were that I deal with anxiety and big stressors pretty quickly cause me to dissociate. Another point from your video that I wanted to highlight, because it meant a lot to me, is 21:18 - Mentioning how internalizing pain can cause you to hurt others or yourself. The acknowledgment that you can end up causing yourself harm by repressing your emotions made me smile, because it is not something I heard a lot growing up. I did not grow up where anyone outright demanded that I hide my emotions, but showing my emotions did become a "weird thing" at some point and I can definitely feel the effects it has had on my life. Seeing others acknowledge it makes me hopeful that people will take it to heart and understand - Or realize if it's something that has happened to them. If you ever reach a point where you wonder if your videos do anything besides entertain I tell you now, yes they do. Keep talking about the human experience and at every turn you're going to run into someone who can relate as strongly as I do to this, and keep showing them the compassion and understand you show your audience in this video and they will know they're not alone. (Alright I'll finish the rest of the video now!)
" I did not grow up where anyone outright demanded that I hide my emotions, but showing my emotions did become a "weird thing" at some point and I can definitely feel the effects it has had on my life" YES, exactly this is what I have realized in recent years. It really ends up eating at you, it's horrible.
@@user-is7xs1mr9y It really hits hard when you realize how long you've spent not being true to yourself. I'm still in the process of untangling myself from bad expectations I didn't want. I don't know where you are in your own process, but a big help for me was learning about CPTSD and losing your identity, forgiving yourself when you aren't at your best and tuning out the world when I need to. I hope the new year is good to you and you have good people around you who will listen and support you :)
One of my best friends treated me horribly for over two years. She manipulated my emotions, used me as her therapist (while knowing I was struggling mentally), and never talked to me as just a friend. She always wanted something. I was scared to tell her because she was just so fragile. I felt like a bad person. She would get mad at me over nothing, leave me on read for days, and then come back to trauma dump. It really impacted my health. Then, out of nowhere, she blocked me and two other close friends. She had found a new friend group. She didn’t need me anymore. I think I’m still grieving. I miss being needed, as toxic as it was for both of us. I miss the love bombing and “you keep me alive, I love you”. I miss her, even though I shouldn’t. No one tells you how to get your own closure when you didn’t even get to leave.
I know I'm just a passing stranger on the internet, but I want to say, once you find more functional and non-toxic friends, and be a good friend yourself, people generally tend to open up and lean on one another for support. One day you'll find people who will tell you "I love you and you make my life better." with no strings attached.
@@nicolasnamed thank you, I appreciate that. I’ve met people who truly care about me as a person, and allow me to be vulnerable too. I’m learning about boundaries and trust. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m figuring it out.
Incoherent relationships like this are unfortunately not always black and white like warren. Some people are stumbling through a fog of confusion and that's what makes them the way they are. And unfortunately, what divides "trauma dumping" and venting is repetition and the receptivity of the person being spoken to. Some people don't mind if you vent. Some find it draining. Others feel productive when they get to listen. I do. Maybe she'll learn healthier habits. Some day. Though if you ask me, the best way to deal with some of these people is to occupy and engage. ie: "wow that sucks. Wanna do something? Get your mind off it?". Most of these people just have no positive social interactions in their daily life and don't know the appropriate way to act anymore. The kick of consistent positive interactions robs them of the social haze they're in and makes them stop. Usually. Unless they're warren.
Great video, it's a good analysis of this episode that I feel is really layered, so I'm glad you could cover this! To also give personal input about the comment at 38:44, I didn't find the "realization" weird because I see that it has more meaning than just being literal. Since Red and Duck had many negative and probably personal comments towards Yellow's capability earlier in the episode, and the diagnosis being emphasized by the "worm in your brain" song at the end, I think the meaning on the diagnosis isn't just about Warren being inside Yellow's brain, but also about how negative and demeaning comments can "worm" its way into your mind, attacking your confidence and happiness. The "worm" described by the doctor and the reaction of the remaining 2 puppets may reflect how they realize what they had said had heavily affected Yellow and sent him into the dissociative state. Pulling out Warren with the tools and Yellow becoming significantly better may be a physical representation of "getting rid" of the negative thoughts. I hope my take makes sense, can't explain my words well but still, nice video!
Ive been obsessed with this episode and all its little details. The dialogue/voice of Warren is really interesting in how much it tells us about him and what he’s been through. Its a really well done portrayal of insecurity and how it can influence our relatioships. Great dissection!
"in most worm pictues, people like cute. simplified..." *looks at his front cover of WORMS, gritted teach, personal nuke launchers, napalm in the background....* I seem to be doing it wrong?
I like the touch that in the original youtube series, the computer takes over the lesson when it seems like it's supposed to be the globe, and then in this episode you think the computer is going to be the teacher and then Warren takes over.
That’s a great detail, the bug in the web series episode kinda looks like Warren as well
@HypnoSpace Outlaw Yeah it's also pretty notable that in both situations the potential teacher gets replaced with some more actively malicious characters. The briefcase, coffin, train, and electricity all seem like they were meant to be there by *someone* (maybe the puppeteer) but the twins and warren seemed out of place for one reason or another and both seemed to replace another figure. Makes me wonder if they were inserted by someone else.
i love colin’s change of heart from the web series to now and how he essentially joins the trio
Oh woops I meant to send the message I just sent on a different video lol

Warren feels uncomfortably familiar.
The ignoring your boundaries, being bossy, the failing attempts at acting confident. I can't say I've ever met a Warren, but I've certainly met people with those aspects.
I think I’ve met one.
definitely not a good thing I was friends with them.
Demanding that you call him an eagle even though he’s a worm
Whenever I try to have personal space or do things I like such as drawing at school, I get very annoyed with having to deal with a group of girls and classmates especially that I used to have in the past that are now in lower sets that act like my "friends" who behave like Warrens with ignoring boundaries and discomfort (discomfort especially with names or doing things you don't like doing). I only talk with people I feel comfortable with, who I trust, their understanding with other's boundaries or help me with anything calming whenever I feel sad.

I dated a guy like that for 2 years. It sucked
Fun fact: the computer mentor who returns in this episode, actually has a completely different puppet unlike other past teachers who got cameos , this is because the original computer puppet got ruined by the paint they used in that singular scene where he had a freak out over being touched in dhmis 4 .
Wasn’t that oil?

Your brain is an apple basically, it's inedible/unusable when a worm is in it.

It's like one of those mindless youtubekids videos that teaches nothing but colors. The eye straining brightness just screams youtubekids to me
I personally think Red and Duck actually didn't say anything absolutely terrible, it just sounds horrible to Yellow because he's already feeling vulnerable.
Awesome take!
Wow that’s actually really good to know sometimes we end up misinterpreting them. Our insecurities or even our own perspective skews what is said.
It's kind of funny because I've been trying to live under that quote "Good friendship is about respecting what everyone wants to do", especially in a recent series I started doing. But a friend of mine was saying "That worm has a toxic mindset." And I realize that, but I just meant when taking the quote out of the context of the scene

@@waterwaveybaby Yeah exactly. If you just take the lesson out of context of what you're watching, they make sense.
He's toxic but he's right at least in his words. The issue with his toxicity is not what his advice says, which he likely got from the Ok Stop group he was from. The issue is that he doesn't practice what he preaches. He reinterprets the message as other people needing to respect what *he* wants to do whether or not he realizes that's what he's doing.

don't know if narcissist is the right word to call Warren, but he gives off a similar feeling of one

This culminates in the older brother cutting his own throat open using a piece of glass, an example of how toxic friends can drive you to dark places.
As somone who is getting therapy for NPD, Warren definitely have traits of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Now thats a good theory
I do think Shy imaginary Older Brother has some sort of significance in some way considering what footage we have of the lost pilot has him in it.
Legit was always afraid of being known as exactly like that, because I don’t want to live a fake reality where I can only see what I want to see.
@@CMBGAMER2018TV
I wondered if they didn't actually cuss Yellow guy out, but it was just the censorship (by Warren breaking the 4th wall) that caused Yellow to think his friends said something horrible to him.
@@darth_autismo That would make sense
@@connordarvall8482 which could be interesting down the line
*"OK Stop!" *
Its ironic since the show is kinda forcing the three into being a "family", but they're really just prisoners trapped together
Damn that's a good interpretation
Warren can totally be a representation of anxiety over that

What did you think of episode 5
Bit random for me to comment here but I felt like I wanted to say something so here I am- aaaa-
I’m proud of you.
real, but never talked abt.
As someone who just got out of a 10 year long toxic friendship it is nice but also sad to see how accurate Warren is
Representation like this is nice to see and really helps to cope with stuff like this
I feel Warren's childhood experiences of perceived rejection have been clouded by bitterness and loneliness.
I kind of felt violated…

my headcanon for Warren is that he was given to a nest of eagle chicks,
but he was so gross that he stayed in the nest until he was raised as an eagle
You know what? I like that headcanon. I'mma borrow that because there's no way he decided that he was gonna be an eagle all on his own.

Warren absolutely posts the most unsavory takes about women on Twitter you have ever seen
He calls women 'females' by the looks of it.
I've been through the exact same thing word for word bro.
God that reminds me of a dude named Sam I was stuck with...
This episode always gave me a bad feeling because I always think Warren is how people perceive me.
If you’re worried about being a Warren, you are not Warren. Warren’s cannot perceive the possibility that they are the problem. Bad people don’t worry about being bad.

Don't forget that those papers you forged? They totally didn't consign people to their deaths.
Thank you, Father Christmas, for more psychoanalysis of our favorite murder-puppets
The worst thing about this episode was finding out Warren has an entry on the Sexypedia.
That aside, this was actually my favorite episode of the series. Thanks for giving it an open minded assessment.
I can't help but feel sick when I see him tagged with the likes of Red Guy and Tony
*yo wtf*
Dude, Yellow guy is so relatable, like the imaginary friends and stuff, I still have them tbh lol!
I liked this episode the most just because of how relatable it was to me personally.
29:36 I think this means Yellow Guy actually believed Warren when he said he's an eagle, so the brain friend just repeated what he heard and believed.
I could be enjoying alone time and here comes a teacher saying "this person is alone so be friends!"
This "friendship" was one of the most exhausting things I ever experienced with them never wanting to do anything even confessing that when they met me they thought I was violent because I wasn't "nice enough" and it was either we did what she wanted or we did nothing at all and I felt obligated to stick around because it's what my parents and school expected of me. Even when I formed my own circle of honest friends I still felt obligated to take care of her while she emotionally leeched off of me.

I thought the DHMIS team not only handled this topic well, but in a way only they really could - with creepy puppets and subtle jabs at Anti-Bullying PSAs! XD
I'm surprised you didn't talk much about what Red and Duck were doing while Yellow was dealing with Warren. =)
THAT is what I loved most about this episode.
But I think it fits perfectly as it depicts what a toxic friend truly is
I think this episode was the start of removing myself from a bad friendship
I dont think they're actual friends? More like people stuck together and held prisoners
why does this whole show have the type of logic of a dream that makes sense when youre dreaming but when you wake up when you're really confused
reminds me of my toxic "friend". people told me to "give him a chance" and GUESS WHAT?! he s*xually assaulted me and constantly threatens me.
if your "friend" doesn't respect you, leave.
I'm so sorry that happened to you I hope you left that situation and find better freinds!
I have a toxic freind
@@Lianna_Is_Me i technically didn't leave, he psychically left and i never saw him again.
i told my family about it. all my siblings were surprised. my brothers were hurt by the fact that i didn't tell them but they comforted me and told me to tell them about stuff like that (so they can "talk" to the person who did that to me).
My brothers insisted that i tell mom about what happened so she can take me out of school and put me somewhere else
my mom wasn't so calm about it though, she was upset that i didn't tell her and she let me know that, my brother had to step in because she was making me feel uncomfortable
unfortunately, i had this weird smiling thing that i do when i bring up something traumatic so.... THAT DIDN'T help
my brother and my mom end up fighting and i run upstairs.
my oldest brother and my older sister comfort me during this.
some days later she bought it up again in a passive aggressive tone. then she said she "cared" about my well being, but in all honesty, i feel like she was just mad that i told my siblings before her because she's always mean to me.
sorry if this was too much.
@@Lianna_Is_Me on my shoulder
Idk if somebody already said this but I have two theories for Yumperdinker's design having a lot of eyes:
1: A representation that Yellow knows that he is being watched albeit subconciously
2: Yumperdinker is the protector of the mind, since she can see anything from any direction
I thought she looked like that because she represented Yellow's imagination. (thus rending her made of numerous parts)
16:29 Warren as Megamind is *cursed* and I love it.
I honestly don't think there is a bad episode in the bunch, and if there is, it certainly isn't this one
I just saw this come out, I haven’t watched it yet but I am so excited to as I always love these DHMIS videos. Keep up the good work man.

It's one of my favourite episodes! I don't know why people didn't like it
A missing lore detail that may or may not be a joke: Yellow having a maiden name (Rat Eyes) implies that he is either married or used to be married.
remember in episode one, Jobs? He got married there. Mayhaps that's a detail they remembered from the continuity reset?
Warren is a really strange teacher, mainly because he has a backstory. It feels wrong, so his death is *_all the more SATISFYING._*
If it wasn’t for comedy sake, I’d imagine the uncensored line be something about how forgetful or airheaded Yellow is.
"It's not your fault. You're just a bit forgetful."
I always thought the R slur was probably what was said, but I actually like your interpretation way more!
In episode two he wanted to be dead, he wanted to be the focus of the episode, but by the time passed and Duck was in the grave, he kept reminding Yellow "No he's gone, let's keep things moving with this new guy now."
And in Family he fully backed away from Yellow and Duck, fully encapsulated by the idea of family.
Makes me wonder ig something happened to him after the YT series ended (if it fits into the canon at all)
Interestingly, there's some concept art suggesting Red Guy was supposed to be the one who got victimized by Lilly and Todney instead of Yellow Guy...
A honest enemy is better then a fake friend
as uncomfortable and disturbing this episode can get, you can't deny it has the most HILARIOUS ending out of the whole season!
To be honest when I saw this episode, it made me look into myself alot. Like I just questioned myself if I was a worm and it opened my eyes a little. Great episode
"Mr PC" one moment of silence for this man after dying from the fandom for not knowing Collins name
23:38 fun fact: the guy in the painting is actually screaming because of a thing the painter did, he went crazy and yelled, the guy had an reaction and the painter painted it.
Did the painter jumpscared his model?
@@crack4184 basically, yes.
When you have a fear of worms watching this video; This is fine.
When it becomes realistic: OH F-
One of my best friends treated me horribly for over two years.
I like this episode the best actually because I really like the humor in it. It gets me every time
I’m glad you have brought us to this information, we will try to recover those 3s friendship right away!
"in most worm pictues, people like cute. simplified..."
*looks at his front cover of WORMS, gritted teach, personal nuke launchers, napalm in the background....*
I seem to be doing it wrong?
Is warren a metaphor for how a toxic friend can worm their way into the deepest parts of your mind and affect you for a long time? Maybe.
I don't get why people hate this episode it's hilarious
Adam Sandler?? What are you doing here?
The “smoke crak” killed me 💀💀
