      There is no stronger expression in regards to Art being absurdly unappreciated that it's not even funny. It may be reckoned due to their fictionalized executions instead of what one considers as actual corporate casual work impacts, the same with that worser narrow minded of reasoning that favors animation as just a genre or "for kids"... Even though Art, while it does come in different forms these days, is worth some admirable praise and within the qualms of jobs... All of the effort, only to not deliver so well in currency or promising occupation as is, has not ceased that frustration within me as well, when in reality it's something worth noting:
      Art can be as FUN as it's INNOVATIVE, meet allies who understand you or how to better approach this or that... Instead of having that insidious lobotomy to the soul in some dubious job that not everyone likes to do at times...
      I mean there will be those to argue against the bigger picture of what art achieves... Things that coordinate with art today, are the blueprints one uses for the building grounds for it all... Who knows what other Innovations or fortunate strengths of wills can be weaved for this dreary timeline these days, something that's actually good in purpose for everyone too, rather then deceiving promises... Things we once considered sheerly impossible or not even once thought of, to be but the norm as much as cherishing of a Laptop, Cellphone, or Console would.
      Sometimes it is hard to tell these days, an improbabilty foolish to be said so bluntly... But: So as long as there are no implicating shady intentions, not become another abruptly tiring cupcake snatcher or worser scums in the waste... You promise me this, you all can still be square in the cataloging book.
      Although even then, not everything is black and white sadly. Regardless of the event in one's life, you'll unfortunately be hit with the burnout stage for the passion too... Which I don't like to think about too often due to my severe wariness, but can happen so unpredictably.

    My main issue with the series is that it’s supposed to take place in the 60’s, but all of the analog aesthetics are heavily inspired by VHS analog from the 80’s and 90’s. If you watch the Superman analog horror video on the same channel, they used a heavily pitched down version of Starman by David Bowie, which came out in 1972, even though the video is meant to take place in 1962.

    • @BreathtakingBoredom
      @BreathtakingBoredom  2 месяца назад +183

      You bring up a good point; Siltrics said in a community post if I remember correctly, that this world is significantly more technologically advanced than our world at the time of the 60s, and as such it’s assumed that the technology to create this music and VHS advancement was made much sooner, allowing popular media from our time to come out much earlier in this universe.
      But I do agree, that does create a bit of time warping and it does get a little confusing.

    • @ebynbell6408
      @ebynbell6408 2 месяца назад +43

      Yeah, the scary face trope is definitely a bit overused, even the originators of the trope have mostly left it behind, which is good, like the Walten files leaning more into animation and storytelling, and the Mandela catalogue experimenting with styles, using 3d animation or claymation for stuff instead of, just creepy distorted, they’re not always bad, but they’ve definitely been a over saturated.

    The idea is decent, but the execution is pretty meh. The entire thing looks like it's a student presentation instead of a real documentary, which I think is the style the creator is trying to aim. It also has a lot of typo error.
    I think the creator is trying too hard to emulate the style of other analog horror, which isn't bad, but they forgot to take an inspiration from real life, especially with the Arkham announcement. Which is why I think the whole thing is just simply not believable, unlike the other analog horror. The whole idea of analog horror is interesting because it blurs the line between reality and fiction, which this didn't do at all.
    Gotham 1919-1939 is probably the closest you'll get on Batman's analog horror.

    • @mensatico
      @mensatico 2 месяца назад +15

      This is just really unrealistic as far as analog horror goes. Even considering analog horror like Local58 and Mandela Effect - where the tapes being watched are manipulated -, the concept of multiple people making entire tape recordings full of editing, text transitions, suspenseful pauses between sentences and full transcripts of their thoughts just seems like simplistic writing to make something analog horror just for the sake of it. Not even mentioning batman intersecting every single VHS to put corny jumpscares and red text all over them. That alone throws immersion out the window.
      Not throwing shade at the creator, this definitely just seems like a teen's fanfiction about a Batman horror story, but the way this video uses hyperbolic terms to make this sound like the greatest thing to have ever exist is very intellectually dishonest. Especially with the title of the video, and the video itself trying to exhaust as many extreme words for quality as it can, like this somehow beats multiple products that cost millions to make.
      No matter how much one likes this story, it's just a very simple narrative that uses the simplest canon from Batman stories, and one that would benefit from being in another format.

      @@iamnobody350 my headcannon of how this is an analog horror at all is that it's V.H.S. conversions of old super 35 film, since super 8 film released at most 3 years after the events of this series takes place. Still doesn't explain how the batman was able to modify the contents of the super 35 film, since it's just a deranged batman and not an unknowable eldritch being that has the ability to affect our media for it's goals, but I shouldn't think about things like that too hard.

    A nice horror interpretation, but honestly... I find the motivation behind Bruce Wayne turning into a monster really dumb:
    1) The state would have provided another tutor for him.
    2) Alfred is very important, but it's not because of him that Bruce is "sane".
    3) Bruce Wayne has a strong rational mind by nature.
    4) The moral sense of justice of Bruce is not just a product of Alfred behaviour.
    I think that a more realistic version of Batman without kindness and love in his youth is a dark Pulp hero like the Spider, the Shadow or.... The Bat: Always ready to kill their enemies, always with their guns ready, but not psycho monsters.

      Right? I think the first murders are done weirdly too. I feel like one would have been enough and got the point across that we’re starting the story with Batman breaking his usual rule immediately. The almost tacked on “oh and he skinned them and made them all bat shaped and removed all of Ivy’s hair” felt very urbanspook too. Didn’t really add anything, didn’t feel necessary… was just kinda silly to me. Felt almost like it was just a shock factor thing, which is a shame because I think the whole concept for this is really interesting. Also I feel it was a bit of a shame to immediately get rid of a bunch of super compelling villains right off the Bat (pun intended) because Man Bat and Ivy in particular could have been SO interesting in this format. I was curious to see what the take on them would have been in this twisted universe and then they were just immediately snuffed out. Hopefully the creator focuses more on the strengths of this series because they are really strong!

    The thing with Analog Horror is it tends to work best in two specific circumstances
    Discovery and Exploration.
    Discovery is the case of someone stumbling upon archived media, or a recording or something that awakens or exposes a underlying horror that ends up targeting them.
    Exploration is the ongoing exploration of a anomalous phenmenon in a time period where these analog effects make sense (70s/80s).
    You have to pick and choose which one you want it to be. It doesn't make sense for random people to be making VHS tapes in the middle of a ongoing story, who will the tapes even be for? Who is even watching them?
    The issue with Analog Horror is people think it's some new catch-all brand to horror, it's not. It's a hyper specific niche of horror that needs specific circumstances to work as intended. It's like Lost Media, but if the Lost Media was covering up something larger and something you have no control over.

    I really enjoy Siltrics' work. The DC analog horror he produces is great. It's so detached from what we know from the characters, but at the same time, is really in line with what the characters could have been if circumstances were different. I've never really watched analog horror series themselves, often just watching recap videos much like this one. Except for Siltric's work. I love all things comics, and this just hits the right cord with me. Enough so that I actually keep up with the series outside of the summary videos.
    I know Siltrics is experiencing a lack of motivation and discouragement from all the analog horror gatekeepers saying "Ughm acktually this cannot be analog horror because [insert reason here]" and "this isn't the Walten files/Mandela catalogue". But it's not supposed to be. It's something different. Something just as interesting and fascinating, with just as much heart and soul poured into it.
    I sincerely hope he continues making these for as long as he's enjoying doing so. They're well made and tell a fascinating spin on already beloved characters.

      My new favorite thing to do is watching a video I fundamentally disagree with, then sorting the comments by new. That way I'm reminded sane people like you still exist.

      @@theprimordiallogic2917 i didnt even feel this strongly abt analog horror until i saw like 100 videos glazing man in the suit when its literally just an even more basic nuclear war bad message than the actual fucking movies not 2 mention how mid the visuals are

      @@joycongirl man in the suit is so ass, thank you for being like the only other person who thinks this, ive had this gripe for a lot of analog horror that it really is just the new age version of "insert fan-favourite child-like cartoon character but as a gruesome killer with edge"

      @@irfanithink its quickly becoming that, but the thing about old creepypastas is that 95% of the time it was written by like. 12 year olds who were just finding out how to write stories. Almost all of these new age stories are made by adults who really should know better

      Wile man in the suit is not exactally a masterpiece but i would't considere nontheless.
      It falls in some cliches, specially in presentation, but overall it does more things good or atleasr decent then straight up bad. The narrativer makes you want to know what happens next and it's easy to follow, the concept is interesting, some visuals do work decentlly well, and for something made by an teenager in an mobile editing software it's all well put togheter.
      Even tought people can overrate it a litlle to much it has a lot of potential and according to an interview the creator gave in an video the prudction vallue will only rise for her on out so i guess only time will really tell.
      Nothing wrong with disliking the series tought, just my opinion :P

    I dunno, this literally just feels like “if ‘x’ character was evil” because the fact that Joker is made even more insane just because of gruesome murders (the same guy who tore his own face off in several comics and started wearing it as a mask and has done a lot of insane stuff) just makes him seem like a regular crazy patient, as well as the others (Croc, Ivy, Manbat) as just patients in an asylum. It makes the world much more realistic, in that they don’t feel like “criminally insane super villains”, and detaches it from the DC universe (even though it continuously tries to attach itself to in-universe lore). Personally I’d like it more if it didn’t try to attach itself to DC lore so much, because it creates a lot of plot holes (him somehow acquiring Bane’s Venom and Scarecrows Fear Toxin with no Batman training).

    Hold on a second. The reason Bruce wanted to stop crime in the first place was because crime took his family from him. As in he made that decision then and there upon looking at his parents dead in the alley. With Alfred dying due to a stroke, wouldn't logic dictate that Bruce would wanna become the world's greatest doctor or whatever? Not to mention how lame it is that Bruce went crazy because of Alfred dying instead of him being messed up in the head

      Its a stupid crappy analog horror series man. I wouldnt expect much of it. I dont even like it just based on moral factor tbh. Batman is supposed to be a good guy who doesnt kill anyone. They already did something like this and it was the dark metal series with the batman who laughs. Honestly this just sucks. It ruins it.

    A VHS tape from 1959... I love how it immediately starts with an anachronistic error that bad.
