As a former Bridgeport CT resident, I can say that the city still pays homage to Barnum. There are streets called Tom Thumb St and Iranistan St (the name of his mansion), the Barnum Museum is very active, and a larger than life statue of him sits at the beach, looking across the Long Island Sound. No one here pretends that he was a saint, but his contributions to entertainment and advertising concepts are undeniable.

I grew up in Bridgeport, too. You couldn’t escape PT. I always enjoyed the Barnum Festival during the summer, and the Barnum Museum. Last I heard, they hadn’t reopened yet after sustaining wind damage a few years ago.

That is exactly why the turd-set's disturbing destruction of historical monuments is SO horrendous. To try to erase history because it hurts feelings, is not anything approaching logic. We keep history as accurately as possible for two reasons: to remember the greatness of the person's great accomplishments, and to determine if such accomplishments warrant repeating. Some do, some can not be, and some should not be. I'm glad that instigators around the nation have not entered your fair city. The first time one does, exile them immediately and with purpose. History is on the chopping block. I hope to visit your town as my parents lived there for a time and I have wonderful pictures of my mother and her friends on the Boardwalk, circa 1945.

PT Barnum’s story feels like the ultimate rollercoaster-he went from conning people with fake mermaids to losing everything, only to come back even bigger and become the king of entertainment. So the RUclips algorithm started showing me some of your videos not too long ago. I may be weird in this, but I'm not the type of person that just subscribes to every channel I come across. I can't really say I do it often or lightly.
But I've gotta say I really like your videos Man!! Always an interesting topic, always well-researched, and you have a great voice for this type of thing!!! I'm gonna go ahead and subscribe!!! Can't wait to check out the content you come out with next!!!

I love your videos, I think an absolute masterpiece of a video that might take awhile too make and could be a documentary series about. Major entity’s like BlackRock, Vanguard & Statestreet. I understand there could be risk involved, I just selfishly know you could absolutely hit this one out the park.

Good vid. Was waiting to see his connection to Tony Pastor, the father of Vaudeville. He performed at the museum as a kid and was taught entertainment by P.T. If you have never looked at the history of vaudeville it would several good videos for you. The book "The Vaudeville Wars" is a great resource.

Barnum got a mention in the novel, Dragonwyck by Anya Seton (c. 1940s). Nicholas takes Miranda to see his freak show and, when sated, they get ready to leave. Miranda wanted to see, "the egress". Nicholas tells her he wants to see that most of all. The door to the display opens onto the street. Miranda is confused and nicholas tells her that is Barnum's way of getting rid of the "stupid" crowds.

There was a good biographical movie about him on A&E network quite a few years ago. It seemed to be pretty fairly balanced - he was not a good man, but considering the time in which he lived, he could have been much worse.

18:35 as much as this guy was a con man, the fact that he gave the 6 year old 50-50 of the profits shows that he was not evil. He didn't need to do that...
Well, assuming that this information is correct.

I grew up in bethel Ct and my great grandfather purchased the home that his father owned and ran a tavern and hotel. He and his acts would stay there when he traveled to bethel. My parents now own the home and has been in our family for over 100 years. Im sure I will end up there at some point. Great history and I often feel if these walls could talk. I am there often

Lesson learned: It's not bad to reward yourself atleast once a year like buying for yourself or taking a break every year which Barnum rarely did according to his biography.
