  • Rare and never before seen footage of Link Wray with his Dutch band, Eric 'Danno' Geevers (bass) and Rob Louwers (drums).
Filmed by the late Wim Geevers at LVC, Leiden, the Netherlands, in 1995. Please enjoy. Published here courtesy of Link Elvis Wray and Beth Wray Webb.
Rumble - Raw-Hide - Fire - (tuning up) - Mystery Train/That's Alright Mama/I Got A Woman - Batman - (chat and tuning) - I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You) - Tiger Man - Run Through The Jungle (intro only)
More information will follow soon - I just wanted to put it up here first, and fill in the blanks later! You can see what fun we had, the three us on stage, no holds barred!
Oh and there is a snippet of Betty Page at the end... my dad didn't film that for sure, but I think Link wouldn't mind... :-)

Great show. To bad the sound recording is crappy. Imagine if this show was captured with a good sound recording! Nonetheless, thanks for putting it out.

When you need to signal your sound tech to turn up your mic in the middle of a song it's time for a new sound tech.

First of all: you should know that Link did NOT want his vocals in his monitors on stage. He wanted to hear his voice coming from the FOH and from FOH only. (We sometimes tried cheating with sidefills but still.) Secondly, Link had his amp literally EVERYTHING ALL THE WAY UP except the reverb. Using a Marshall JCM 800, a Fender Twin Reverb and suchlike... this was not negotiable.
And apart form that... Link was pretty deaf ever since his tuberculosis (and years of high volume r'n'r probably did not help either).
So hey, before badmouthing a sound tech...
Oh and Link knew his sound was quite a handful, so he always tried to remember saying 'thank you' to sound tech and other crew after a show. You know?

@@Bietel I did not badmouth any sound techs. I simply said maybe they need a new one because I wrongly thougt it was the tech's fault. You provided me with an excellent detailed explanation and taught me something about sound on stage. Thank you. We don't need to turn every comment into s flaming pissing contest do we? Peace!

@@Bietel One question please. Respectfully, how does he crank everything all the way up without the sound losing cohesion and sounding shitty? I know, cohesion isn't an audio term, but its what I imagine it sounds like. I've never played large venues. Never played anywhere larger than a local bar. I do own a Marshall JCM800 and a couple Fender tube amps and they all sound like a steaming pile of shit with everything cranked all th way up. Maybe I should sell them to Steamy Ray Vaughn, that feller that just shits his bteeches! Them breeches have had enough!!!!🤣

@@JohnHWelch63 Fair question! As to the 'how', well... probably the pickups on his Yamaha SG-2 had something to do with it, maybe his Boss CS-2 (also all the way up, believe it or not) but... Well, his sound WAS crude, loud, unmanageable - as long as he was playing it sounded very Link, but we had feedback problems when he didn't cut his volume inbetween songs.
