@@robstoner5873 Hello Rob, I had to Google you to see where you been, well I'm glad your still alive and have to say this is some of the best bass playing Link Wray ever had behind him. I never realized you played on American Pie under your real name, quite a feather in your cap, thanks for the memories bro!
Been following rock bands since the 60's but I was unaware of Link Wray. He's awesome. Thanks for posting. I like the bass player. He keeps the blues moving straight ahead.
Three chords and the truth one BADDASS MUTHAFUKA!!! YOU HERE ME, take that you pentatonic playing, music theorist, playing till your brains bleed lol, its, all about that feeling, and link got that feeling, just look up all the FAMOUS GUITARIST he influenced, the man is a beast on the ax!!!
Dude like this. All the band has to do is stay on key and don't fuck up. Renegade Indian of the highest order. That's the face of a man that doesn't know he created like four genres of music and none of them were as cool as this.
Reminds me of bands like the Cramps, Jon Spenser Blues Explosion and all kinds of gritty, fun bands from the 80s and 90s that ripped off Link Ray with impunity. Even bands like the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop owe him a lot. Good times! I miss that in-your-face-ness and sheer energy level in modern music. There's a lot of great stuff out now. But it comes from a different place.
you can tell its the 70's when these drummers took the bottom heads off their toms. So stupid . put em back on, tune em up, and let them ring out like they're supposed to.
@@recordguy4321 "concert toms" were all the rave back then. I think it may have been easier to mic them inside the drum to get more separation. These were the days before digital gates.
@@Bradwick1 I have no idea what digital gates are, I play vintage drums , WFL Ludwig and Rogers none past 1967 and they sound GREAT with Shure 57's on them and a audio tech bass drum mic. to each his ow. When I saw Robt gordon with Link and Anton in 77 he had a pearl kit with heads on em
@@recordguy4321 Thats awesome! I have a set of Mod Orange 1965 Ludwigs. Unfortunately missing the floor tom. Gates are used to cut off the attack of individual drums so the sound doesn't bleed over into the other mics as much. The gate for each mic has a threshold that keeps the signal off until the drum is hit. The effect is like you hear on Phil Collins Dont care Anymore. In the 70s, and this is speculation, taking the bottom head off would allow the mic inside the drum which would isolate it from the rest of the kit so it could be balanced in the PA easier and have less bleed through from the other drum mics. Robert Gordon would have been great to see live. So many greats are gone and few can fill their shoes.
It incited something more powerful. When you listen to the opening chords of something like Black Sabbath's first record, you're listening to the guitar players who put that single on the turntable and had their minds blown.

Rob, you rock brother! Had the pleasure to hang with Link at club on Sunset blvd. in Hollywood. Around 1999. Best time ever.

I love you both on Robert Gordon's first two albums!
