The story of Link Wray meeting John Lennon is amazing. Was an article about Link a few years ago in Uncut. I dare not misquote it. But basic thumbnail is John Lennon and Yoko were on an elevator with their secretary who recognized Link and said “hi Link” . To which John wheeled around and exclaimed “you’re Link Wray, I love you man!” Well you get the gist of it. Respect to the great old musicians.

Hearing this I can understand how Neil Young cites Link Wray as an influence of his music. Nothing like straight up rock. This band is tight!

As Shayne says, thank you so much for posting. Link thought the world of John and i was trying to find the Winterland Video where i danced with Link when he played Jack the Ripper... was awesome to see this. Thanks

To be a 3 piece band you all have to be exceptional..
This man right here.. the reason I picked up a guitar..
They beat the recorder into me with a stick in school.. I wanted revenge.. and I got it with a battered Rickenbacker 340 and a beaten up old Sound City stack..
    Long Live Link !!!

Such swagger. I imagine this guy at a party, back in the days, and some guy saying, 'see that dude? Don't mess with that dude.' Man was a complete boss. Elvis's delinquent cousin. Link and Iggy, us old punks will love you 'til we are no more.

InfoScholar, I actually had the honor seeing Mr. Link Wray perform at the 5 Points Music Hall in Birmingham Alabama. I caught the last few of songs in his act by accident and I'm glad I did because he passed away not too long after, and I didn't even know that he was in town, that day. I knew who he was and what impact he had on rock n roll, but I wasn't familiar with a lot of his music at the time, but I was very fortunate to have been there for the short time I was. I'm a lot more familiar with his stuff now. I just wish that I could have been at the 5 Points Music Hall a lot earlier.

    • @spottedsaint957

Yes, I Also caught Iggy Pop twice, let's see... The Cramps I've seen once ,unfortunately. The Ramones, I got to see twice, then Reverend Horton Heat , I saw twice. Southern Culture on the Skids ,about 4 to 6 times, I'm not too because there were a lot of great shows and I was pretty loaded at a lot of them when I was a lot younger. Yeah I'm from Alabama but I was born in Seattle, but I couldn't tell you anything about that part of the country other than there's a lot of flannel shirts and coffee houses over there.

Link personified a man’s maximization of his God given gift. A Korean War hero and casualty, one can’t help but wonder if his sparse and intermittent vocals can be attributed to the breathing he lost with a lung in combat. Providentially, unlike his collection of unmistakable power cords, the “less is better” style he is known for only makes him that much greater.
