2018 Toyota Sienna - Review and Road Test

  • Minivans aren’t cool and the 2018 Toyota Sienna is no exception. Image issues aside there’s arguably no better way to transport people and their gear than the humble minivan. In this video Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio enjoys the honest practicality of the Toyota Sienna. With the rare distinction of being the only minivan offered with all-wheel drive the Sienna is a supremely practical all-weather conveyance with seating for up to 8 passengers, a thoughtfully arranged interior, and a range of family-friendly features.

    I am huge car enthusiast, and I think the Mini Vans are very cool. I would get one over Crossover if I had a family. Sienna has a lot of power, and feel luxurious. I drove one with 200,000 miles, and it felt like it was brand new from a dealer.

    Haha we own a '17 Sienna SE just like this one and LOVE IT! That thing is so comfortable, so much better than the Odyssey. I can't tell you the cars that think they can take me at the light and I just smoke them, this is no slouch in the speed department. We usually drive around with the 3rd row down and just leave the stroller and stuff in the back, excellent van all around! We tried 3 SUVs before hand but the Sienna blew them all around in room and comfort.

      What is your definition of better? If you are interested in long term reliability then Toyotas can rarely be beaten. If you want a minivan that drives like a car then try the Honda. If you are just leasing for a couple of years then take a walk on the wild side with the Chrysler Pacifica which also comes as a Hybrid. It is your money, what is your priority?

      Sienna is sitting on Camry chassis and The Odyssey is sitting on the Pilot and/or MDX chassis, which is safer than a Camry chassis. The Odyssey is lowered than Sienna as well and therefore, it is riding much smoother and sportier.

      This Sienna still rides on a platform introduced for the 2007 Toyota Camry. The Camry we have now is, what, 2 generations ahead while this van is still stuck in the mid-2000s? lol the Odyssey will curbstomp this shitty old van.

    Love KBB reviews; although I’m sure some people don’t get or appreciate Micah’s humor.
    I’m in the market for a minivan right now; like the Pacifica styling and Odyssey functionality, but the AWD system is a winner for me. We get snow and ice where I live; I’d feel better knowing my wife is driving the kids in an AWD vehicle. Perceived peace of mind, of course.

    • @gratefulRed69
      @gratefulRed69 6 лет назад +4

      I love the looks of the new Pacifica and love the "stow and go" features....but based on the fact I keep and drive my cars/vans for a long time and a lot of miles....that eliminates Chrysler as an option for me. Reliability is more important to me than looks/options/pricing. I work for one of the largest auto warranty underwriters and administrators in the country (vehicle service contract provider) and the fact is, Toyota and Honda are just much less likely to fail than their American counterparts. Sucks, but it's an actuarial fact. Now, as a buyer, if you're in and out of autos every 3-5 years and stay under 90k miles or so.....you're probably "ok" with any of them, but if you're like my family that keeps cars up to the very high mileages....you'll regret buying American.

    • @forestgirl4071
      @forestgirl4071 6 лет назад

      Pacifica sucks. They do not have the reliability of Toyota. Chrysler/Fiat was rated the worst in reliability by JD Powers. Chryslers won't make it past 100,000 miles.

    I'm this ' ' close to buying one again. I had a 2006 that I had for 8 years and 336k miles. Not even light bulb went out in it. Sure I did the basic maintenance along with water pump change at 160 k, spark plugs, belt, hoses, battery (or did it have a chain? I forgot) etc. That was by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. I have a 2009 Lexus RX350 & Lexus IS350 that's giving me more problems then that Sienna. It's a hauler, camping sleeper, people mover and long haul swaggon.
    So looking to "upgrade" I recently took a look at the Lexus GX 460. What a JOKE that vehicle is. For the privilege of owning a $60k luxury badge you get to literally crawl as in climb over the second row of seats to get to the third row.
    Unbelievable. I'll pass.

    Just bought a 2019 SE which is pretty much still the same (shocking I know). I ruled out the Chrysler by taking a quick look at their message boards. The amount of problems with that Van is very disconcerting. I previously had a 2005 Odyssey and had quite a few expensive issues with it (motor mounts, sliding door failure, suspension failures, power steering failure, A/C died, have to replace the rear liftgate struts every few months etc). There are lots of unhappy owners with the newer ones - major transmission issues, weak A/C, sliding doors. I judged the Toyota was going to be the more reliable choice for long term ownership. They stuffed quite a bit of tech into the older packaging. The Toyota message boards complain about minor things like lack of adjustable arm rests instead of being stranded on the side of the road because the engine died (i am looking at you pacifica).

    Anybody have problems with the seat tracks on the Sienna? Living in Wisconsin with kids, you get food, dirt, salt and sand on the floor. Trying to buy a minvan, but I kept leaning towards an Odyssey because of it. Use to own 99 Odyssey and 2007 Odyssey. Odyssey's ride quality isn't that comfy, but I have always liked Honda's interior.

    The only reason I would get this is for its AWD.

      I drove my Sienna FWD on a decent snow storm last year from Salem Oregon to San Juan Island in WA I was very impressed how well it handled on the snow. I highly recommend the SE Premium and if you can find a AWD it’s a plus. The only thing I hate is the stupid round reflectors in the back that only come on the SE trims.

      I guess the LE AWD is the most desirable van according a salesman at my local dealership. LE is the trim they sell the most and he told me people go distances to pick one.

      I can't see enough value in AWD to sacrifice fuel economy for it (which costs you more $$$ over time AND more $$$ up front to buy). Front wheel drive minivans are surprising capable in snow (I've never had an issue in my Odyssey's and we go skiing every Feb) and I doubt anyone is using a minivan to go "off road"....so AWD seems a bit unneeded, imo.

      I disagree. They are very common here in California, where it doesn't snow. People need AWD to go up to ski at Lake Tahoe/Reno. Also, you can just buy a spare and replace the run-flats with regular tires.

      I was told the XLE trim is the most popular and has the most value. The LE lacks a moonroof, power liftgate, leather, Driver EasySpeak, blind spot monitor, and rear parking sonar.

    If Chrysler EVER licensees “Stow & Go” to Toyota, I’ll possibly consider going deeper into debt to buy a Sienna with that back saving feature!(Loved the Pacifica, but the Fiat Chrysler folks wanted more than I wanted to pay).

    When the last redesign of the Sienna. I know that the refresh happened 2017 or 2018. I guess the last redesign was 2011 or 2012

    "automatic" high beams? do they automatically switch on when no cars are in front of you?

    • @forestgirl4071

      Yes if you are going faster than 32 mph and no cars are coming towards you. Honda has that feature too on the EX and above.
