    I'm in my late twenties, I'm not married and I don't have any kids yet I still find this minivan attractive. It's reliable and practical, it can be a great camper van. Am I weird to like this at this age?

      Mikael Borhzka nooo way bro it’s what you like :), I’m glad that Toyota keep a V6 in this van😃, but it’s kinda how that I’m only 19 but I’ve always loved the LS400 from Lexus😄

      You not the only one. I’m 24, not married, don’t have kids yet and I do love this minivan. I rather get this over luxury car.
      Why? This van is super comfortable, smooth on road or highway, good MPG, massive cargo area that you can easily fit a big fridge and the acceleration is great for minivan.

      Completely agree, back in my late teens when I was surfing a lot I drooled over some of the vans on shore near the lineup. For camping nothing beats the Chrysler/Dodge vans though with the stow and go seats that make a nice flat floor, too bad about the reliability though.

      The Odyssey is still the best looking among minivans to me. It has that interesting styling (that yet works) which makes it's design stand out from the crowd. The Sienna is still handsome (heck it does look pretty good in the SE trim at least), but it just looks like a regular minivan. Not that it's ugly... but just nothing special.
      Toyota might amp up the swag with the next generation of its "swagger wagon" hopefully coming ASAP. When it comes to reliability however, Toyota still has you covered of course (as usual).

I take naps in my car so I don't have to drive home twice. That cargo space in the back looks like first class nap time to me!

    We have had our 2018 XLE Sienna for over a year now, and love it. We had to have it modified for a wheelchair user (my son) before delivery. That gave it the power kneel feature, which raises the whole van about 10" higher than normal. Now it looks like a massive SUV. It drives beautifully. It is so much more secure and solid than the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan that we had for 16 years (also modified for wheelchair). You really feel that you are driving a SUV, and with the almost 300 hp, it has all the power you need. Toyota's safety features are a bonus, and should be mandatory on all vehicles.

    Lol Sofyan I appreciate the effort on the intro, but there’s only so much you can do to make the cargo room and folded seats of a minivan sexy. Nice try though bro.
    When my mother in law came to visit she rented a Sienna Limited. I was actually blown away by the level of refinement, technology, and space. We used it to haul some 4’x8’ tables and it swallowed them just fine. The Sienna also doesn’t rattle as much as the Odyssey does. The Odyssey’s cargo area is annoyingly loud. Overall, the Sienna is old, but thanks to a new V6 and transmission and standard autonomous safety features, it’s not outdated. If I was shopping for a minivan, a loaded Limited with AWD would beat all the competition.

    Hoping for the next generation Sienna to come out soon. While this generation is still quite competitive (heck, the only AWD minivan?) and has aged well, I still think it's getting quite old..
    ..I mean, Toyota gave us latest redesigns like the new Avalon that was almost perfect, the new RAV4 that was interesting, the new Camry that was impressive, and the new Corolla (both sedan and hatchback) that was surprising.. heck so far even the new Supra that seems badass... Toyota should bless the "swagger wagon" to amp up its swag within this segment.
    Responding to the insane SUV craze though: Even compared to the largest SUVs on sale, minivans are still more family-friendly than any SUV you can think of... :3

    Back in the day when the world (and I) were young and dinosaurs roamed the highways, I owned a 1989 Mazda MPV minivan with AWD. It was a great van and its AWD once got me out of a ditch in deep snow on a logging road in the Cascade mountains. Might have saved my life, in fact. As I understand it, the Sienna is the only minivan to offer AWD and with a 300 hp engine it looks like a very good option, especially in harsh winter conditions and even in the messy winters we see in the Pacific Northwest. Would probably have avoided the wheel spin demonstrated in the review, in fact. Though I think the Odyssey is an overall superior choice, the AWD would be a major plus for me if I were in the market for a minivan.

Neither Ford nor GM makes one. The Pacifica has done well. The Sienna is getting long in the tooth. The Odyssey makeover is two years old now and Kia has a decent unit. I just don't see much of a future for them with the popularity of the CUV segment ( think CRV, NX300 , RAV4 etc) . I know I would enjoy the current Honda Odyssey over the current Sienna. But, something to consider, the Sienna has a timing chain while the Odyssey has a timing belt that has to be replaced every hundred K. The Honda Odyssey transmissions rarely lasts past 200k, while with the Sienna, you can possibly get 250 to 300k out of your original transmission. The lower trim levels of the Odyssey use the same 9 speed transmission that is in the Chrysler Pacifica which is more reliable than a genuine Honda Odyssey transmission. The upper trim level of he Honda Odyssey comes with a 10-speed genuine Honda transmission that drives better but may have the poor reliability that has plagued Honda Odyssey transmissions in he past. My heart wants the Odyssey but my desire for reliability with no timing belt replacements make me want the Sienna over the Odyssey, the Pacifica, and the Caravan.

    Really surprised that Toyota hasn't upgraded the platform. Remembered that I rented a then brand new 2011LE v6 8 seater in late 2010 for a 2 week, 1500 mile family road trip from San Francisco, Anaheim, Grand Canyon and Vegas.
    Was quite impressed how it tackled the curves at Yosemite and curvier sections of Pacific Coast Highway 1. Nothing beats the convenience, load and people capacity and comfort of a minivan for a family road trip.
    Didn't like the really cheap looking interior though...seems like the later refresh didn't improve on it much.

    One thing I love about Toyota - they don't update parts (line the steering wheel and its switchgear) just to make it look more modern or sporty. If something works well, they just keep using it.
    This can make the car look a bit dated, but it has some major benefits. If a piece of equipment has proven itself to be functional and reliable, keeping it means it will contribute to the overall functionality and reliability of the car.
    Also, if you have ever driven a Toyota and get into a new one, you will be instantly familiar with the way things work - and if you are new to Toyota, you don't have to have an engineering degree to figure it out.
    Lastly, by using the same parts for years, Toyota can keep costs lower. Simplicity and a conservative approach to change, also helps Toyotas remain drive-able years after other cars have fallen apart.

    This Sienna is definitely due for a next gen but this generation to me is great looking especially in this sporty trim. Toyota make a sporty cool looking van and he complains about the looks.. make it look normal they complain it’s boring.. the fuck. What puzzles me is the can actually looks cool.

    • @SilverstoneGC
      @SilverstoneGC 5 лет назад

      My thoughts exactly lol. Love his reviews but this was a bit painful. We have a 2017 SE and bought it over the competition. The interior is a bit dated, but the engine/transmission, exterior design, and deptite what this review says the handling was far superior to the Odyssey. My parents have a 2016 Odyssey Touring, so we had extensive time with it behind the wheel.

    • @Toyota4Life
      @Toyota4Life 5 лет назад +1

      SilverstoneGC The interior being “dated” is natural its has aged very well and this is very useful and ergonomic. That should be his conclusion not “dated”. This Seinna is the only sport minded van in its class you think he would give it credit for that but he seems to bash it. Good on Toyota for offering a sport option and in this sport trim to me it’s the best looking van hands down. Sporty looks and 300hp what’s not to like? But these journalists love to nit pick when it comes to Toyota while on the other Spectrum of things OVER praising other brands.

    • @SilverstoneGC
      @SilverstoneGC 5 лет назад

      Agreed! I'll be honest im lowering it with a nice set of wheels this summer. It looks awesome. I don't hate the interior by any means. Has the easiest access 3rd row, easiest fold down seats, and I find the second row comfortable and wouldn't trade that for stow and go. My only complaint is for the price of the SE premium, I want a better stereo. The speakers are terrible. Other then that I wouldn't change a thing

    • @SilverstoneGC
      @SilverstoneGC 5 лет назад

      And I think they are still doing something right. In my city, you see a tons of SE Siennas around. Usually driven by younger families. Older generations seem to opt for the LE/XLE/LIMITED. I think Toyota appealed 100% to the demographic they targeted with the SE

It sounds as if you're struggling for a term to articulate your opinion but failing to recall one, so you end up with "crap." It's just a little weird because your overall presentation is actually really prestigious by comparison to most reviewers. Why do so many cars these days have the Hideous door handles like the ones on this Siena? They are a blight and a carbuncle on the side of so many vehicles. The way to do it is the way the Range Rover Velar does it, or the Aston Martin DB9. Even my old 1988 Honda Accord that I had when I was a kid had beautifully flush door handles.

    Ah, the slow lingering death of the minivan. Every time I see a minivan review I hear the reviewer note how much more practical the vehicle is than a comparable SUV/CUV. Yet the message seems to be largely ignored by most consumers. What's the deal?
    Is it because male consumers have lost their taste for them? Not likely. "Real men" never took to minivans. The "cab forward" design didn't appeal to males who want a long, long hood stretching out before them. It suggests a BIG powerful and "potent" engine. Even better if it has a protruding grill (Lookin' at you CX-9) that makes the point even more obvious. From the beginning minivans acquired the reputation (and the stigma) of being "mom-mobiles." And when CUV's came along to replace a "truck" feel with the driving dynamics of a car, it was the best of both worlds for men who never took their vehicles off-road but wanted them to feel "tough."
    No, the declining popularity of minivans stems from the fact that females (who have a major voice in the purchase of "family" vehicles) increasingly rejected them. How come? First, it's difficult to avoid the fact that younger generations of women increasingly reject the stigma of being "just a housewife" and accurate or fair or not, minivans project that vibe. But that's not all.
    Females may not find the same appeal as males in a massive hood in front of the driver but it does suggest strength and security in the event of an accident. And safety, real or perceived, is especially important to female drivers. Further, as highways filled with SUV's/CUV's all drivers, but especially women, feel overmatched in terms of visibility from a driver's seat. A "command" (i.e. taller) driving position gives them a better chance to see what's going on around them. Of course it's a vicious circle with more bigger and taller vehicles making the problem worse. But like nuclear deterrence individual purchasers may see no alternative.
    Minivans still appeal to those with large families to haul around, especially if extended family trips (or a family with multiple hockey players) are a priority. But large families are a smaller and smaller portion of the population (except perhaps in Utah.) Bottom line is that the few manufacturers who offer minivans (Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, and Kia) seem to be fighting a long term losing battle.
