The regulator with motor that I got from 1A Auto Parts was the perfect replacement for my 1998 Mercury Sable. The price was way lower than my local auto parts store. The video helped me save about $400. I used 3/4 inch 7/16 bolts to hold on regulator, 1/2 inch would be better. Also I needed to put the bolt by the motor, at approximately 2:00, into the regulator first before I put the regulator where it was suppose to go. Great video! I will use 1A for anything I need. Thanks!
I just want to say thank you for taking the time to make all these videos. This is the 2nd time your videos have been a key factor in my dad and I being able to repair my 05 sable. Thank you very much.
Not looking forward to this but so glad this video was posted. Thank you! Went from a nice new vehicle that I couldn't afford anymore to the cheapest car I could fine that needed "little" work. 12 parts later, I think I'm ready for the luxury of front windows that don't need my help going up and down haha
Priceless info for the auto inept....like myself, thanks so much for sharing this knowledge. I guess I am not totally inept, the old cars that I used to work on in the 80's when I was a teenager were primarily 70's model vehicles. You could open the hood and identify the alternator, the spark plugs, and so on. I open the hood on a newer vehicle and it might as well be a space ship.
Really helpful. Your patient and straight forward style in teaching repair is really good. Great Job. Passenger window tilts forward when trying to roll down and it rattles when closing door. Now I know what to look for. One of those rivets probably failed in the regulator somewhere. My 2005 Taurus thanks you :) Going to try it today. Putting in new front speakers anyway. Thanks for putting in the video time.

Excellent walk through. Greatly appreciated! Perfect! Just discovered the previous owner had removed the return spring trying to replace the motor even though it was the switch that was bad. I guess measuring voltages on those lone two wires was way out of his range of abilities. Now to figure out if this spring can even be mounted again. Soon as I get the entire structure out that is. All this plus an impossible to find source of poor running during the first 30 seconds of a cold start. New plugs, wires, coil, IAV AND mass air flow sensor. Guess ford designed these tauruses to only run correctly the first year of it's life. lol My days off are starting to seriously suck. lol
You may want to see if there's a loose connection to the switch or if it needs to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You may want to take the door panel off and check the window regulator to see if there's anything wrong with it. We carry new window regulators on our website if yours needs to be replaced. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393 FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states.
You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to remove the door panel on your car. Once the door panel is off, you should be able to push the window up into place by hand and hold it into place with a piece of wood or something that will keep it propped up into place. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
If there are cables on the regulator, you may want to check to see if any of them are caught or jammed on anything inside the door. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular repair. You may be able to follow the basic steps and apply them to your application. Some of the tools needed would more than likely be different though.

Hi, when you use drill for window regulator blind rivets be sure that doorvs glass is up not down to avoid drill bit entering inside may break the glass.. Best regards.
I need to know how to remove the whole metal assemble my window shattered and I need to put in my new window so I have to remove the metal assembly but you pretty much given me the idea thanks.
Well, The rear bolt was missing from the regulator frame and the door was full of glass chunks. Little bitty cubes of side window glass from a previous wreck I guess. Shop vac cleaned up. All back together with window working perfectly. Thanks again for the help!
We're glad to hear that this has helped. If any of our viewers need to make this repair, we carry the replacement window regulator shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them, we also offer free shipping goo.gl/e0qetL
No. Contours gl 4cyl 2.0L doc and the v6 are generally the same with a one touch relay in the door. The window will go down or up and stay down or up. This door relay is the problem,NOT the regulator motor, most of the time. Check interior fuse box fuses first
The front post on the regulator is out of the teflon/plastic slider in the rail. If I can put it back in, the window should work. Do you have any idea how to pop it back in while inside the door? I'd hate to drill and remove regulator and window rivets if it is not necessary.
I hear the motor trying to move the window when I use the switch but window doesn't move up and down how can I move the regulator to the positions to remove rivets if window doesn't move? thanks
I have a 96 ford thunderbird 2 Door. I need to rebuikd the window regulator motor, how does it come out, is it the same way you did here or different? Thanks

Great video. Do you happen to know how to replace a window regulator in a 1991 ford tempo? I can't seem to find much information on it, and given the limited visibility I can't tell for sure where the regulator is fastened. I know it is riveted in but so is the motor. Thanks.

No. Contours gl 4cyl 2.0L doc and the v6 are generally the same with a one touch relay in the door. The window will go down or up and stay down or up. This door relay is the problem,NOT the regulator motor, most of the time. Check interior fuse box fuses first, this is the driver door, most used right? However both driver and pass window regulators do fail. Still, check fuses first. The rears I have not seen fail since 96'
Do you have to remove the whole door panel to replace the main switch on the drivers side? I think I have a bad buttons and I wanted to see if they just pop out or do you have to remove whole panel? Also, I love your helpful videos thanks!
+Amanda Pulley Thanks for watching! For this particular vehicle yes, you will have to remove the door panel to change out the main switch. Here is a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/m1CaEXsa0Xg/видео.html
+Kevin Mencer The tool makes it easier, but you can use a plastic putty knife or something that will not damage the door panel or door. Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
If the regulator is ok but rivets have broken off and window is just loose. What then? Do you pull the window up and tape and then position the rail using the switch and then replace? Could it be that simple? I haven't had a chance to check it out. Someone slammed the door hard and the window just fell. Hoping its not the regulator.
question, I have a used window with regulator already attached, can I just slide the whole assembly down in. I'm having trouble drilling the rivet's that hold the window in the track. the rivets wants to spin
+Midnight Chevy Thanks for watching! That may be difficult as you would not have very much clearance to slide it down in. If I were to guess I would say you will not be able to do that. 1aauto.com
I dropped a penny between my window seal, in the crack of my window while i was sitting inside my car on the driver side, and my window isn't going all the way down but falls off track when i put it up, I think the penny is wedge between something, what should i do, oh and i have an 06' taurus by the way
1A Auto Parts well now my problem is I can’t get the rivots out of the top bracket that attaches to the window. I got the center out just can’t break it free from the bracket
How can I tell if the regulator is bad? When I try to roll down the window, I can hear the motor but it makes a loud clicking sound. Is it possibly that the window is somehow off track? It will only roll down about an inch and a half. Probably gonna take the panel off today, but if it could be the regulator I might wanna wait till I just buy a new one before going to the trouble of dismantling everything.
It could be the window regulator that's acting up or the gear on the window motor may have gotten damaged too. You would need to remove the door panel to see what's causing the issue. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You may want to test the power going to and from the window switch to the motor with an ohm meter of a test light. The window switch might be bad. like all fords,10x harder than it needs to be to do maintenance on
Exactly. Why rivets????????
Thank you so much! Happy New Year to you and rest of the crew.
More power to you.
You may want to remove the door panel to see if you can access the penny and remove it from the window regulator track (if it has fallen in there).
We currently do not have an auto repair video on the rear door, but the basic procedures should be similar on the rear door.
Does the new regulator form 1aauto come with the nuts and bolts to replace the rivets?
You may be able to by reaching inside of the door. It may be a little tough though.
You're welcome. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
you guys are life savers! thank you for these videos
@TheeRobc5000 It may be similar but might not be exactly the same as the vehicle shown in the video.
We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this particular repair.
@booone222 It could be faster on the assembly line to use rivets. Not sure though.
Hi, when you use drill for window regulator blind rivets be sure that doorvs glass is up not down to avoid drill bit entering inside may break the glass..

You guys are awesome.
Great info I've used this channel before and also information from the Taurus Car Club

If the rivets broke, you could rivet or bolt it back into place.

What size bolts, nuts and lock nuts do you recommend to replace the rivets that were destroyed to separate the regulator from the door panel?

I just have a couple questions. Is it the same for the driver rear door. And how do you remove the window control cluster. Thanks
