DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent. I just like examining popular tournament formats.

@@barn6606 Jeez, calm down Satan
I'm surprised you didn't mention the calm mind Mega Sableye set. That dude was a monster back in ORAS.
The problem with that set was that the obnoxiously overused meta physical Fire types destroyed it due to WoW immunity. It wasn't as universally annoying as most of its other sets for that reason.
The reason for that is because mega evolution was slightly bugged in gen 6. Upon first turn of evolving, the pokémon would still have its previous ability, but also gain the mega's stats. So when Sableye evolved, it would gain mega Sableye's stats, but also have prankster the same turn giving it a free calm mind, ensuring its survival. This was fixed in Sun and Moon.
I used to abuse that back in gen 6 competitive back when competitive was actually fun, before gen 7 came in and fucked everything up.

Sableye was actually my first ghost type ever back in Sapphire. Felt so good to use it recently in an Emerald playthrough
mm, it's great on gen 3 in game teams, makes a playthrough much easier with what it covers
Broadbull, Enabler of Uncounted Combos Exactly. It’s a go to check for things the rest of the team struggles with thanks to hard countering psychic and other ghosts and having zero weaknesses. Pairs well with things that hate those.
Besides it's morvepool it was great!
Libra The beautiful War Monk Feint Attack as it’s strongest dark move lmao
There's also the fact that you can defeat Norman's (the 5th gym leader, forgot if that's his name) entire gym only using a sableye, since im pretty sure all of the pokemon only have normal type damaging moves, making the darn gremlin immune to all of it.

Love how you’ve been pulling through with these uploads at even earlier times each week now. You’ve gotta be one of the most consistent and quality RUclipsrs on this platform. And one of my all time favs for this reason. Keep up the good work FSG!
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I’m a big fan of regular Sableye’s design, and not so much the mega’s.
Na honestly i'm the same the Normal Design is realy great and even the mega makes sense, i prefer the normal Design.
Another unpopular opinion : I like Sableye's 5th gen sprite the most. The way he just bounces slightly and twitches his head occassionally is so cool.
I thought its mega evo makes it a slow, priority dependant sweeper pokemon like scizor
Tho still GF does its job quite well for exploiting its good typing...
But yeah...those *fairy godparents* -_-
Sneer I think I share that opinion as well. The other one I really like is it’s Battle Revolution sprite because of the grin it makes when it gets hit by an attack.
@@scorn9018 The gen 5 sprites overall were amazing imo. I honestly prefrr them to the 6 and 7th gen models
Brief nitpick: It wasn't just Arena Trap Dugtrio that was banned; Arena Trap was banned _as a whole_ , since Diglett and Trapinch performed with similar consistency on those stall teams (they weren't as effective on offense, but they were still comparable much like Gothita/Gothorita were to Gothitelle).
Honestly, Trapinch is insane with it's base 100 attack
In hindsight, there are a few interesting things that were overlooked here:
From Gen 4 onward, the Zoom Lens came on the scene. And combined with Stall guaranteeing you go last, this means a huge x0.20 Accuracy buff unless you lose the Item. Between Swagger, Rock Tomb, Will o Wisp, Toxic, and even Zen Headbutt, you have a good way to guarantee your sabotage methods.
From Gen 5 onward, Sableye got access for Metal Burst via Egg Moves. Besides only a Fairy weakness, a Normal, Fighting and Psychic Immunity could help make Mega Sableye be even more difficult to take out. Not to mention really surprise anyone trying to dead force it's defeat. Base 50 HP isn't high, but given some of the stuff Bastiodon's 60 was still able to pull with max investment, you could still make some decent strides with Sableye.
If Sableye had 85 HP, wide guard/crafty shield, would be much better
Mawile could use that hp boost too honestly
@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283 ability huge life effect 2 doubles hp stat

ahh
Ah Sableye one of Stall's best mons, although it had a rough beginning. Once megas came, it quickly became a powerful wall and a great hazard and status stopper.
it wasnt actually a wall. he cant tank too much neutral hits
he is more of a backbone pressure against taunts and hazards, that could also wall the main anti staller (m medichan), and cripple physical switches. forcing the other team to play much more methodically and punished predictions when coupled with trappers
but he wasnt really a wall, a strong neutral hitter like heatran can pummel through his recovers
@@CheesyCore My bad, I completely missed that detail in the video
@@alexandermcmillan8056 well, its a role very similar to a wall, in that it can put a dead stop to some mons and force them out

Through just these videos I went from having zero clue what this dude is talking about to him saying "Gengar was better because of Levitate" and me going "oh, yes, so it counters Dugdrio" as if I knew what I am talking about when it comes to Gen 3 competitive.

My all time favorite Pokemon finally gets the False Swipe treatment. Thank you for the vid!
I love how sableye, my favorite pokemon, shines in vgc and singles, as its typing goes
Its dark, evil, therefore its crippling its opponents, by priority statusing, passively, hench its ghost typing, unsee but game-changing.
Upon its mega evo, it gained magic bounce and being a defensive mon with only one weaknesses, laughing those who wants so badly set up hazard, lacks fairy offensive, and teams that susceptible to statuses
Overall, its the little gem-carrying diamond eyes goblin who manipulates the game behind the stage, evil-ly

Always wanted to see this fella ^^
Fantastic delivery.
5:03 Wow. Bold choice going for an unown there.
The unown means that the player never revealed their 6th Pokemon
One big thing I feel like you really missed here is the power of calm mind mega sableye, particularly the set of calm mind, will'o'wisp, dark pulse, recover. This set in gen 6 was unkillable for most pokemon if it could get off even one calm mind, since will'o'wisp could cripple physical attackers, calm mind could stop special attackers from koing it, and recover could make sure that it was never killed by chip damage. Magic bounce prevents any stall pokemon from draining its hp with toxic or leech seed, and no pokemon was immune to dark pulse, meaning at +6, Sableye could hit everything hard. It even had prankster before it mega evolved, which in gen 6 mechanics activated the turn you mega evolved, which means you could get priority will o wisp or calm mind off while megaing.
To beat this sableye you either needed a really strong physical fire type (immune to burn), a calm mind setter of your own that could stall it out, or an absurdly strong special attacker (usually specs) that could deal over 50% to sableye even after one calm mind were set up. Nothing else really worked, and if your team didn't have a very specific sableye counter, it would absolutely get 6-0'd by this monstrosity. It was an absurd set back then, and still is a very good one today, I don't think Sableye gets anywhere near as good as it is in singles without calm mind.
And till this day, at S/M randbats, that set is quite hell tho, even if there are fairy offensive (exclude tapus and legends) in your team
@@Dz73zxxx Yeah, various mechanics changes (prankster nerf and mega mechanics change) along with additional strong fairies (tapus mostly) in the game makes this set a fair bit weaker than it used to be, but its still extremely strong, and can absolutely wreck an unprepared team.
@@redwings13400 i had those sets

14:05
This
Man
Is
INSANE
How do you even pull a team like that off invgc?
far too passive
No that's just a slot of a mon that wasn't shown yet
I have a soft spot for this Pokemon. In Gen 5 I had the good fortune to get a pair of these Pokemon with prankster, and ran an admittedly suboptimal team with the two of them that I had a lot of fun with. They both utilized quite different movesets, as well as different EVs which resulted in one being a surprisingly effective physical wall while the other was a special wall. Having the two of them, and me not using nicknames, it was fun playing mind games with people on switch ins with them.
I had stubbornly tried to keep using this weird core in X and Y, but it didn't really work anymore since instead of me trying to mind game with two of the same Pokemon that required different strategies to counter, I was just messing around with two Pokemon both shut down by Fairy types. When Sableye got its mega evolution in ORAS, however, I was very excited. I stopped using the both of them in the same team and would instead switch between them depending on what my team at the time needed more defensively, which, while a bit unfortunate given how much I enjoyed those weird strats, was probably for the best.
I love how they always reference PMD2 and pretty much no other spin offs bc it really is the best Pokémon spin off
Extremely ironic that Mega Sableye was the god of stall and it's secondary ability is literally "Stall"
Sableye's best ability before Mega Evolution is "Prankster", fitting for it's "trickery" and gimmicks that the narrator describes.

In AS I had a Zubat, a Ralts and the event Beldum. He was cake
@@librathebeautifulwarmonk1283 Tbh the game became extremely easy with that event Beldum, considering just how broken that evolution line is on a casual playthrough. Not complaining though, i love Metagross, and having it as a member of my team from the very beginning as opposed to a post-game mon is very nice.
Yeah Zubat kinda destroys his entire team. Don't know about Ralts, but i had a Kadabra once on Emerald and Brawly got completely shafted.
