    „This noise that comes out of out mouth means something, for example sit means I want you to display the behaviour of putting your bum on the floor“. As a linguist I would argue this is the essence of language for humans too. If I enter your office and you say „have a seat“ I understand that you want me to put my bum down on the chair you are offering. Same with names. My name is a particular pattern of sounds made by the tongue, lips, and airways, and when I hear that pattern I know someone wants my attention. We teach babies to recognize their name in the same way. Sounds represent objects and ideas. My philosophical argument would then be that dogs do acquire a knowledge of human language although they can’t express themselves in our language. Just think how smart that makes them. We often have difficulty acquiring more than one variety of language within our species but dogs are able to learn cross species communication! 🎓🐶

    As children, we never thought about teaching a name to a puppy. Playing with children was a pleasant activity for a puppy. We called the name and the puppy reacted to it in no time. It was that simple. Now I have an 8-week old staffy at home and I search videos on how to teach him his name. Thank you for this video.

    I recently rescued a Staffy. He is 1 year old and still a puppy. He came from an environment where he was left outside all the time and not cared for. This is my 1st Staffy. He is rambunctious and full of personality. It's just me and him in my household. My adult children all have various dogs. Where and do I begin to socialize him? Its only been 2 days and I am noticing behaviors from jumping on furniture and people to pulling hard when leashed. I am enjoying his lovable nature. He will accompany to work and other places often so I want to know how we can start on a good foot.

    Great video will, fenrir is fast becoming one of my favourite dog channels!
    Question: You don't touch upon mis-using or over-using a dog's name, for example "Hello Benny!" or "I love you Benny!" or any one of a million examples of people simply 'chatting' at their dogs - something that people just seem to do in my experience! Surely this would be confusing to the animal and should be advised against..?

    • @willathertonstaffyshow6068
      @willathertonstaffyshow6068  3 года назад +2

      So glad to hear you've enjoyed our course. We often have people buy the course ahead of bringing their puppy home, this give them time to watch all the videos and learn what is needed then go over it again when the puppy is home. It's completely up to you how early on you might want to start this process or if you want to just wait until you bring your new puppy home.

    Really trying to find something to help my 6 month old staff learn to share. She with my American bulldog and she's great with him except with sharing toys and treats because she's come from a home with other dogs that she's had to almost learn to fight her way to get fed and toys. I refuse to re-home her she just needs time but I can't find anything on helping her learn it's ok because she don't have to fight for things anymore. Do u have any videos?

    Love your videos. How long for would you train a puppy it’s name before he can recognise it? In terms of weeks ? My staffy puppy respond to the food lure but when doing her own thing she may look at me 1/2 of the time if I call her from a bit of distance without lure. Should I go to her and give her a treat as a reward for looking ? Would she understand she got treat for looking at me ? This training business it’s so much fun but can be frustrating too. Also, if you don’t mind, could you tell me how I can stop my husband from winding the puppie up? He things is funny and my puppy does have lots of fun, or it looks that way anyway. But she gets so hyper and he doesn’t know how to calm her down when she gets nippy . Thank you .

We also offer a free puppy taster training course you might find helpful which gives more detail than we're able to go into on our video here, you can find out more details on our website: leader.fenrircanineleaders.co.uk/ppp1624230184001
      Sadly with regards to your husband it might be you need to chat it through with him and maybe watch the training videos together so you're both on the same page when it comes to how best to train your new pup. Good luck with training!
