I have aphantasia and 90% of the time i just don't have dream or they are really short. But when i do dream i just wake up feeling a certain way (happy, sad, scared, ect) i can hear and feel stuff in my dreams but i never see anything. It's just pitch black then i wake up. And as an artist this is really difficult, because I'll have an idea but i won't know how it looks. It really sucks. I also have snow vision syndrome and it doesn't effect me too much, beside my pretty bad night vision, but it's manageable
I suffered the borderline disorder for over 23 years, with so much anxiety not until I came across psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment actually saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Germany. Really need
There’s this syndrome called “Alice and wonderland syndrome” it’s basically an alteration of visual perception and seeing sizes of a body part or external object as an incorrect size than it actually is.
I know it's not technically a "disorder" but nobody really talks about Maladaptive Daydreaming and I think it's pretty cool (I have it myself). It's basically daydreaming elaborate and realistic fantasies (daydreams) and doing this for hours a day. It's also common to do it with music playing or pacing around on the floor. For example, I'll put on my headphones with music and walk in circles for hours daydreaming about characters I've built up over the years and specific plots. It's really cool, unless it begins to become distracting and causes you to loose focus on important tasks. Otherwise it's a great thing to do when you're bored :D
omg i do it all tfing time. i thought i was just very imaginative 👁️👄👁️ but the con abt this is that u usually lose touch with reality and often get distracted.
Lol i do that every time i go to bed because thats the time i get to be alone by myself and im actually able to snuggle up in my bed and daydream for an hour or two at midnight before actually trying to sleep X3
I wanted to take my time and thank you, because of you I could notice I wasnt okay and got professional help. Turns out I was dianosed with hiperfunctioning depression in a severe grade and anxiety dissorders. I just need to let you know that because of your videos I feel understood in a way. I'm so thankful to have found out about it as soon as I felt identified with some of the symptoms. You are working hard for this videos and many more may appreciate your work in the same way I do.❤
things I learned that were not normal: 1. seeing static over everything 2. associating colors with things like months, grades, etc edit: oh my gosh I was not expecting this many likes thank you
Same, I thought everyone sees static over everything- I asked my dad about this when I was four or so, pretty sure he didnt understand what I meant back then :(
i have visual snow syndrome and basically all the symptoms that come with it and let me tell you, it's a pain to deal with. i'm forever disassociating because of it and i will often walk into things as my depth perception is terrible. not to mention, the photophobia that can come with it is physically painful. thankfully most people only have it mild, but it can impact your daily life a LOT for some of us edit: i also am autistic and have sensory issues ontop of that, so when one plays up, the other starts playing up too. it's so irritating lmao
I have visual snow syndrome too and I will sometimes see figured (more vivid at night) that take form using the static I see around me and sometimes it freaks me out 😅
Maladaptive daydreaming needs more recognition 💔 imagine going to your therapist and she tells you to "not be in your head too much" it's heartbreaking
Y e s . I’m trying so hard to not constantly daydream. It’s hard when you have a busy schedule outside of the house, then when you’re home and should be taking care of yourself (personal hygiene/sleep) or doing homework, you end up staring at the wall for hours daydreaming instead. I want to do something with my life and quit daydreaming about being someone else in different sorts of situations but it’s so difficult to try to resist.
Not sure I have this wait no I do this in school in the bathroom every when play games or watching tv its fun when doing homework oh yeah in the showers and in bed and laying in bed and in the store everywhere ha yeah fun..........
Wait what I used to be able to do that but now i barely do it. I always just blamed school, as they changed it to make factory workers during WW2 and that meant no being distracted, so they made it get rid of your imagination. They havent changed it since. That is why the US education system sucks.
Hey, I know you probably won't see this but I just had to say THANK YOU!!! Watching this video is what let me find out I had visual snow syndrome and because of it we were better able to treat my visual disturbances and I've gone from migraines that left me stuck in my room for weeks to only getting a bad migraine once a fortnight. While to most that wouldn't seem all that great it has had such a huge impact on my life! I've been able to actually go out and do things regularly for the first time in years and I just can't thank you enough for helping me discover this!
My girlfriend has Synesthesia. She has explained to me that the colors she hears are colors out of the color wheel, they don'texist. She once told me: "I recently been listening to songs that sound like red." One color She heard is a mix of green and red, And sometimes she can't hear the same color
I'm not sure if I have that I don't really understand it but I do see days of the weeks as colours and letters and numbers as colours 1 is blue,2is orange,3 is pink, 4 is blue,5 is blue, six is orange, seven is yellow, 8 is pink, nine is purple or green and ten is yellow- it's strange but cool.
My mom has Erotomania and I feel so bad for her :( we have tried everything but she deeply believes that he's waiting for her and that he loves her. when we try to talk to her she starts to cry and tells us that we are trying to bring bad luck to her and that when that happens we will regret having said it. She even stalk him on his social media, she texts him every day but obviously he never answers and doesn't even know about her but she deeply thinks that he has read everything and he does not answer because his wife is jealous and control him. Mom i hope that one day you'll forget him and get better. I love you...
When I squint my eyes forcefully at night I notice static or shapes in different colors that just look like static I feel like this is in everyone it just effect people differently
What???? Seriously???? I thought it was normal. When I close my eyes I even see vague imprints of the last thing I saw, does anyone else have this too???
BRO THIS VIDEO MADE ME REALIZE IT WASN'T NORMAL Since I saw the video, I looked it up and researched it. I've been talking over the symptoms I've had with my parents and researching it more, hopefully gonna meet with a doctor about it soon on my youtube deep dives on it, I found a video called "visual snow relief" which is basically a video of static, where watching is supposed to help relieve the symptoms. I stared at it for a bit, then looked at another screen, and nearly cried because for a SPLIT SECOND everything was clear - then it got "fuzzy" again :P video for those who are interested (if it lets me share the link) ruclips.net/video/800f9UNiF4Y/видео.html im gonna experiment with it to see if i staring at it for various periods of time will help at all
DKKLSDLKDLKSDLKDS SAME- I used to talk about it a lot with the kids at my bus stop like "do you see static, like tiny changing pixels when you're looking around?" and they were always like "no wtf" so I kinda shrugged it off but knowing it's not normal kinda makes me laugh, 2020 has been my year for figuring out that there are 3592389297902334982 things wrong with me and I can't fix any of em lmaooo
I have factitious disorder and and I’m glad you have mentioned it. I suffer from anxiety and overthink a lot so this video explains it well. I try to prove myself by doing this stuff so I seem somewhat convincing. I finally got diagnosed at 9 because they thought it was a typical thing for kids to do.
I had a teacher with synesthesia! It was super cool bc she would always know who was talking out of turn. She was going to give us paint chips with the color of our voices on them at the end of the year but then covid happened :(
@Steps Thanks! Yeah, she was my favorite teacher that I've had - we were her first ever real class! (She had just graduated) Surprisingly, she was awesome!
@Steps She was! We haven't really talked much or anything now that I'm not in her class, but she was definitely great! A lot of it was that she was so enthusiastic. She visited everybody's house and talked with them and gave them each a card-type thing that was written in fancy calligraphy and must have taken hours. The dedication!
legit when i was like 8 i was with my friends and i was like: do you guys see those tiny snowflakes? they looked at me like i was crazy, it was summer tho lol
Her: Erotomania is when someone believes someone loves them even though they don't. Sansfangirls: 👁️👄👁️ Edit: I won't say thank-you for the likes. It will just ruin the whole fresh vibe of this comment. I would just like to say that I made this comment a while ago when I got into a weird edgy phase. I don't use this account anymore. I'm just editing almost every comment I've made. That being said, have a good day. - 11/3/21
OMG THX SO MUCH FOR BRING ANPHANTASIA INTO THIS! I actually have it surprisingly despite being an artist. I actually avoid doing mental image exercises and meditation because of it. I feel so weird knowing that what others see I can’t and I draw as a way to get it out onto something I can see!
I can usually picture something with my eyes open or picture how I would look my art to look like, but if I close my eyes and try to picture it, it’s just darkness...
Same here! Kinda, for me its like i just really know how it looks or how I want it to look like but i can never get a real picture of it in my head, it’s more just nothing but many things at the same time, it’s hard to expalin😅.
I have always have a thing associated with a specific colour: people, friend groups, numbers, grades and scores, subjects, songs, foods especially weekdays!! Monday is blue, Tuesday is yellow, Wednesday is dark green / purple, Thursday is lime green, Friday is Red, Saturday is light blue, Sunday is Orange. I've never really thought about it before, but when i think about it now , it's just always been that way since I can remember :o
i died inside when they showed the blue wednesday!! monday is light blue tuesday is dark blue wednesday is red thursday is green friday is orange saturday is dark purple and sunday is yellow i also have it for states, countries, numbers, letters and most words recently new words havent been giving me colors to associate them with and its so weird lol
monday is red like the number one and tuesday is yellowish brown and wednesday is green and thursday is brown like the number 8 and friday is light blue/yellow and sunday is yellow/orange lol I never actually realized until now that I actually think of some numbers and days as colors- I think they have to do with the letters which make up the word, the way it sounds, and things that sound like other words (Like SUN-day, making me think yellow like the sun). IDK if I actually have this condition but I definitely do often think of numbers as colors, and sometimes days of the week, mostly thursday which is brown, and tuesday which is lighter brown.
I have synesthesia. I can taste food whenever I hear about one or see one, even if i haven't even tasted it before. I once saw a Pao de lo cake, which my Portuguese friend brought to me and it tasted exactly like i expected it to. and like Amanda says, I associate words, songs, days of the week etc to colors. pretty cool.
Same! I only figured out I was different from other people when I was 12 or something. Since I graduated college I’ve met a lot of people with it too. It’s numbers and letters for me and taste. Music is so beautiful to me because of it
For me it's very common for me to see static in the dark. Sometimes if I got up and went somewhere static fully covered my whole vision for a few seconds which I didn't know the reason till now.
I used to see static and strange colourful patterns in the dark when I was a child but I've grown out of it. My brother used to have it too and we'd sometimes talk about all the patterns we could see before we went to sleep. We always thought it was normal.
@@snuggies1826 happens to me, it happens because you stay in a certain position for too long, then suddenly changing your position into another position, happens a lot to me
Finally someone brought up visual snow, it’s soooo annoying. I just see very fine colorful static with floaters and when I close my eyes I see these colorful, flashing, static-like, moving images wherever I look. I want my friends to understand it more. On another note, you described it pretty well!
How I see time: Second: Blue Minute: Red Hour: Black Day: Yellow Week: Green Month: Also yellow Year: Purple Days of the week: Monday: Red Tuesday: Green Wednesday: Yellow and grey D: Thursday: Dark green or orange Friday: Aqua blue Saturday: White Sunday: Pink
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought I was seeing some sort of "static". Thanks for the term Visual Snow Syndrome, would've never been able to describe this to anyone.
i tried describing it to my mom one time and said i was seeing air 🤦🏻♀️😂 i didn’t know that this disorder existed, or that i most likely have it (not saying that I do bc I don’t want to assume)
theres this thing called hypochondria and it is basically health anxiety, aka worrying so much about your health that you start to gain symptoms and have intense anxiety. i actually am a hypochondriac and ive been trying to treat this by myself and it’s working well
story time, when i was 7, 5 years ago, someone in my class had a crazy harry potter obsession. a draco malfoy obsession to be exact. they highly believed that draco malfoy's actor ( tom felton ) was in love with them. one time, someone said "he doesnt even know you exist." she got really mad and threw the person's backpack across the room.. i think she has the first disorder.
DUDE, that second one happens to me. I'll either have a sentence stuck in my head that'll replay itself over and over again or a random song. Sometimes its so loud, I cant hear or focus on anything else
Visual snow sufferer here. I was diagnosed around a month ago and when I first started showing symptoms, I thought I was going blind so it caused me horrible distress and it was extremely concerning that no doctor seemed to have any idea what was causing it until I went into the hospital and did various tests for a week, and even now, every doctor I've spoken to said they've never heard of it before my case, I'm so glad awareness is being brought to it but I will say, for many people, it isn't mild and very much affects daily life. It comes with a whole host of symptoms besides the visuals, and there are varying presentations of the visual affects beyond the static. I have floaters, palinopsia, double vision, random colored spots in my peripheral vision, afterimages, and really bad light sensitivity, I cannot see outside without sunglasses. If I'm indoors I can forget about it depending on the light conditions, other times I have to wear sunglasses indoors. VSS is highly linked to migraines, I had debilitating ones every other day for a while. I also get frequent pain in the upper corners of my eyes toward my nose and my eyes get strained and fatigued easy. I have brain fog and memory issues. I also have tinnitus and insomnia, all of which I didn't have before my symptoms appeared. It causes a lot of abnormal effects that you wouldn't think it would cause, but neurological conditions tend to affect many parts of the body. It really sucks to live with, but I'm just glad this isn't something progressive, and I recently started treatment and I'm hoping for the best! Thank you for listening to my story!
@pwqshiiv. I have the same problem! Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder is another common comorbidity. I've heard some people say that fasting can help this symptom, so I'm gonna try it!
me: *doesnt wanna self diagnose and be ignorant and rude to someone who has aphantasia but I've literally never been able to visualize something in my head my whole life, I'm 15 now.*
i can, but its supper hard for me to do, it doesnt last to long, and if i am, once i notice i am its gone and then i cant get it back its like it only seems to happen if im inbetween being awake and alseep
i have aphantasisa, and if you think you have it then go for it! there’s different levels of aphantasisa and it’s severity, so knock yourself out, it doesn’t hurt to mess around with a label like that :)
I never knew everyone can't see random statics in the dark or when they close their eyes. I've had it for so long but it still scares me. I actually ended up crying once after seeing the disturbing static once, it really got on my nerves. I also use to see this very bright static, which I would say was circular and looked kind of like a shooting star, every night while walking towards outside at this particular spot, and even though it was always at this particular spot I still got jump scares from it
@@moni8908 You’re describing a head rush which is caused by a rapid drop in your blood pressure when you stand up. They’re completely normal and most people experience them now and again -You probably don’t have visual snow syndrome if this is the only time you experience it because that’s just what head rushes do Head rushes make people dizzy, light headed, confused and can cause cause vision to blur -When I have head rushes I go temporarily blind
@@ladylemon202 uh, im not an expert at this stuff so correct me if im wrong but that doesnt sound right qvq it happens nearly every time i stand up and it causes me to not be able to stand up properly unless i lean against some form of support, it also pretty much blacks out my vision too, ive had head rushes before and they feel... different? Idk its kind of hard for me to describe. Sorry if i sound rude Im just honestly confused-
@@moni8908 I don’t think you sound rude at all. Some potential causes of head rushes are: -Nervous system disorders -Dehydration (That’s all I could really find) I’d suggest: (after doing some research) -checking your medication (if you’re on any) because it could be causing low blood pressure -making sure you’re staying hydrated -standing up slowly (apparently clenching your leg muscles before standing up helps because it pushes blood around more) -if you get really dizzy after meals then it’s advised you eat smaller portions more regularly -apparently getting some exercise can help as well Please seek medical advise! I’m not an expert on any of this but I really do think you would benefit from a visit to the doctors.
I have synesthesia and I can see numbers, people, words, sounds and days of the week as colours or textures. Although, I wouldn't describe the colours as flashing at me. It's more like a connection in my mind that makes me automatically see them as a certain colour/texture.
@@Tobiyolo48 haha same! i used to describe things as colours, assuming that other people saw the same things i did, and everyone kind of just looked at me like i was talking nonsense.
This is interesting, I actually just learned I’ve had aphantasia all my life, and never knew until this video. It’s amazing how the internet can be used to learn such fascinating things.
Exactly. I can't complain about anything without someone saying that people have it worse, which is one of the worst possible mindsets ever. It could keep people in abusive relationships and have people not speak out about their problems because "others have it worse", as if the grey area doesn't exist. There's a spectrum, people.

Anytime someone says a letter or number in front me, I almost always subconsciously picture that letter or number as a color in my mind. Like the letter N being purple or the number 2 being blue and now I mostly know why. Thank Psych2Go for such wonderful and informational content😊
There's a Korean movie named "One Step" featuring a girl with Synesthesia and I actually forgot the title but because of this video, I was able to find it by looking up "Korean movie synesthesia" on RUclips lol Thanks Psych2Go
And also, in tw show called Heroes, there's a girl (or a boy, I can't remember) having synesthesia. This disorder is presented as superpower. I thought it was nice.
There are other mental illnesses with that as one of the symptoms. For one of my mental illnesses it is a symptom but it can come in different levels. Mine is low so I can kind of imagine it but not that clearly like other people can ^^
@@brainrot368 same here! I'm not diagnosed, but I can't imagine faces. Maybe like, eyes, a mouth, etc. but when trying to piece them all together they either fade away or move around trying to find where they fit (they never do). I don't know if this makes sence, but it is what it is- I can't really picture anything that clearly tho, it might be worse or better depending on what it is
yeah true one day i told my teacher i cant imagine something that bitch said "Just think about it and visualize" like huh?! bitch if i told you i cant imagine then that means i cant visualize ether she must have been on drugs that day or something i swear
I know someone that might have erotomania. He pass 3 years of his life thinking that his straight friend loved him. He was violent and possessive with every one who tried to have a relationship with him, he was like the ghost of this boy. Then, one day, my straight friend started to hangout with a girl and they became a couple. That was the end of world for him. They started to arguing, talked bad things about each with me. Then I talked them and they decided to don't be friends anymore. That's really stressful and sad. Have an yandere friend in your life isn't that cool
Small fact about aphantasia: most people with aphantasia are self diagnosed (such as me). I’m not sure how to explain why, but you can search it up and find good articles on it

fun fact: there is a disorder similar to factitious disorder where one believes they are dead, and also taking it way to seriously (asks to be buried, etc.)
It's not a factitious disorder, it's a delusional disorder. It's called Cotard's Delusion. The person suffering from Cotard's Delusion may believe they are dead, or in a state of decomposition. They may say this and behave oddly because of it- such as requesting burial, a funeral service, saying they have no need for sustenance or sleep, etc. A delusion differs from a factitious disorder in that the factitious disorder is something someone knows they are doing to themself, yet doesn't recognize as truly wrong and doesn't really understand themself why they are doing it. A delusion is something someone believes as truth, no matter how nonsensical it is, and even if it's proven to be untrue- such as "I am being followed/watched", "There are demons trying to attack my loved ones", or "People are trying to poison me". These are not something the person is purposefully doing. Anyway yeah just a mental health lesson :]
Thank you for raising awareness to Visual Snow Syndrome, a cure hasn't been found yet but if youtube videos of visual snow relief can actually relieve the symptoms for a few seconds i believe it's possible to have a cure
Wait, wait, wait. So you're telling me, that not everyone sees colors when they listen to music? Or as overtime, people you know have a color associated with their personality? Or that Wednesday IS blue, but a dark blue, and the other days of the week have colors? AND NUMBERS DON'T HAVE COLORS?? Explains why my siblings think I'm pshychotic when I tell them. I thought everyone had it.
Here's another one: Stendhal Syndrome People affected with Stendhal Syndrome experience hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, and other symptoms when exposed to art.
Dude, thank you so much.. I thought I was just stressed out because of school but no.... I looked into Factitious Disorder and I have done many things that my brain tell me to do. One time I even broke my leg just to stay home school. More things like this involve me not eating, drinking, and even cutting myself just to stay home. Thank you for making this video, this might just be what wrong with me.
This should be pinned. Lack of satiation within relationships is the root to most of our emotional woes. We (or many people) underestimate how important transparency and vulnerability are.
Ive had visual snow syndrome my whole life and when I asked my dad why I saw “a bunch of dots everywhere all the time” and why I “could see atoms” 😭 (I WAS LIKE 7 OK?) he told me they were probably just floaters. Now I know what it is! :)
I've always thought that "forming a picture in one's mind" was a sort of idiom. Like, you don't actually see the image, you just focus on that concept in your head. O.o
@HanHanPlayz soo, you might not understand this either, but have you ever seen a tv that isn't working that has static? It's like that, but in whatever colour it is your looking at. At least that's what happens for me so I think so
@HanHanPlayz wait what don’t you understand? I think I can explain. I don’t know if this answers your question but the “snow” in the name “visual snow” is the statics, I think it got that name because it’s kinda like tiny white dots moving around, like snow.

Otherwise it's a great thing to do when you're bored :D
omg i do it all tfing time. i thought i was just very imaginative 👁️👄👁️
but the con abt this is that u usually lose touch with reality and often get distracted.
Lol i do that every time i go to bed because thats the time i get to be alone by myself and im actually able to snuggle up in my bed and daydream for an hour or two at midnight before actually trying to sleep X3
That happens with me but when I’m reading a book and drawing a new character it sometimes happen when I listen to music though

It causes a lot of abnormal effects that you wouldn't think it would cause, but neurological conditions tend to affect many parts of the body. @@moni8908 I don’t think you sound rude at all.
Some potential causes of head rushes are:
-Nervous system disorders
-Dehydration
(That’s all I could really find)
I’d suggest: (after doing some research)
-checking your medication (if you’re on any) because it could be causing low blood pressure
-making sure you’re staying hydrated
-standing up slowly (apparently clenching your leg muscles before standing up helps because it pushes blood around more)
-if you get really dizzy after meals then it’s advised you eat smaller portions more regularly
-apparently getting some exercise can help as well
Please seek medical advise! I’m not an expert on any of this but I really do think you would benefit from a visit to the doctors.

The thing is, theres so many mental disorders, it’s difficult for somebody not to have one. Even if people claim they don’t they might have one
True tbh.
The problem with having problems is that 'someone' always has it worse.

There's a Korean movie named "One Step" featuring a girl with Synesthesia and I actually forgot the title but because of this video, I was able to find it by looking up "Korean movie synesthesia" on RUclips lol
Thanks Psych2Go
What's the movie?
And also, in tw show called Heroes, there's a girl (or a boy, I can't remember) having synesthesia. This disorder is presented as superpower. I thought it was nice.
Yess I've watched it before, the lead role was played by Sandara/Dara Park of 2NE1.
The girl who sees scents?
What are the movies about?
Oh i guess I have aphantasia, that’s why in school as a wee lad it always pissed me off getting told to “use my imagination, and visualize”
There are other mental illnesses with that as one of the symptoms. For one of my mental illnesses it is a symptom but it can come in different levels. Mine is low so I can kind of imagine it but not that clearly like other people can ^^
i think i have it too, just not the object part, more face part. I really cannot imagine a real face, when i try to i only see a blanked out head
@@brainrot368 same here! I'm not diagnosed, but I can't imagine faces. Maybe like, eyes, a mouth, etc. but when trying to piece them all together they either fade away or move around trying to find where they fit (they never do). I don't know if this makes sence, but it is what it is-
I can't really picture anything that clearly tho, it might be worse or better depending on what it is
yeah true one day i told my teacher i cant imagine something that bitch said "Just think about it and visualize" like huh?! bitch if i told you i cant imagine then that means i cant visualize ether she must have been on drugs that day or something i swear
I remember that too.
'Imagine a safe place..."
Well I can't, and I didn't know it was weird up until 2 years back.

Yeah... Not even in Animes.
I feel so bad for that to happen
Small fact about aphantasia: most people with aphantasia are self diagnosed (such as me). I’m not sure how to explain why, but you can search it up and find good articles on it

fun fact: there is a disorder similar to factitious disorder where one believes they are dead, and also taking it way to seriously (asks to be buried, etc.)
oh no
oh no
*ohnonononono*
Walking into the funeral directors like "hey, man. I died on tuesday. How much is that nice red coffin over there?"
It’s called zombie impact disorder I think

I thought everyone had it.
wait does it feel like disco lights when u see colours while listening to music I'm curious

Here's another one: Stendhal Syndrome
People affected with Stendhal Syndrome experience hallucinations, rapid heartbeat, and other symptoms when exposed to art.
@Amariana Matthews Good question, I didn't look into that. I suppose it's all types of art.
Is this similar to/related to over stimulation?
everything is art if you really think about it

What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.
This should be pinned. Lack of satiation within relationships is the root to most of our emotional woes. We (or many people) underestimate how important transparency and vulnerability are.
What is "candor"?

@HanHanPlayz wait what don’t you understand? I think I can explain. I don’t know if this answers your question but the “snow” in the name “visual snow” is the statics, I think it got that name because it’s kinda like tiny white dots moving around, like snow.
