I really feel you are doing Ghost Squad a disservice by not mentioning it allows 4-player simultaneous co-op play. I mean that's unheard of, and it is SO much fun when you have four people.
The House of the Dead 2 & 3 collections are also great, and surprisingly cheap now. Shame they couldn't get the arcade version of the first game, but the source code has been lost to time
Brian DuBose the cover pedals would be a problem, though. To counter this, I’d probably make them use the GameCube jacks on top of the Wii corresponding to the player.
Nuke Dukem That could be a good compromise. Maybe the pedals could still be buyable, but unnecessary. Just for people who want the authentic arcade feel (like myself)
Not sure why he didn't mention HotD 2 and 3. It's a great faithful port to the arcade games. Found it more satisfying than the Resident Evil games. I made a bad call with those. Probably more accurate on the PS3.
Great Video. One of my favorite On-Rail shooters was from the Die hard trilogy game Die Hard 2. I especially like how the environment was kind of interactive, how you just could destroy everything and make a complete mess of the whole game. Furthermore I always felt that the whole Die Hard trilogy game was such an underrated game.
FYI Metal Jesus, Darkside Chronicles (2009) and Umbrella Chronicles (2007) are two different games. Both are on the Wii and PS3. Umbrella covers RE: Zero, 1, and Nemesis. Darkside covers RE:2 and Code Veronica. You should get the Darkside one too.
I love that you made this video! I've been obsessed with light gun games for the past year and was even hitting up gamestop grabbing a lot of these light gun shooters for the Wii for 2-3 bucks. Even have the big red buck shot gun to play them, but i still love an actual light gun with a CRT a lot more. Favorite light gun systems were Ps1 and Ps2. You can play Time Crisis games (all of them) and Gunfighter legend of Jesse james with a steering wheel with pedals plugged in the 2nd port and use it as a pedal in the game! Very Satisfying.
Arcade style light gun shooters have been my favorite since I was a kid playing the actually arcade machines with my dad. I agree the wii does have great light gun games!!! This is actually what drew me to the wii in the first place. Another game that I think is a hidden gem is the nerf gun game. My brother and I use to play it over and over and it's great for kids so a plus. The other resident evil, and house of the dead games are great too. Probably my favorite were... Shoot forgot the name... But is was an arcade machine in the late 90s. It was those police games with the real people standing up in the graphics. They made wii games that still had that cheesy was but still fantastic games!!! XD
Speaking of light gun games, the snes and genesis (and maybe nes) emulators that you can run on the wii support the wiimote in place of the light gun. Playing through snatcher on the sega cd emulator on a big modern TV is a total blast!
House of the dead 2-3. Oh I miss playing house of the dead 2 on my dreamcast thanks to not having a crt tv anymore. Thanks to the wii I can play it again in 720p. Happy days.
This video completely hypes me up on those old games I used to love shoving quarters in when I was younger. I'm a beginning collector and most of these will definitely be going on my "Want List". You always bring obscure/underrated games on your videos and that is why I subscribed a while back. Duncadelic P.S. I'm completely jealous of your EarthBound donation. What and awesome gift!
I really like you're hidden gem videos. I found a couple of them real cheap in thrift stores because no one knew about them. Great job, can't wait to see what other gems you have found.
I fondly remember player Gunblades NY in the arcade, it had huge machine gun controllers that vibrated so much that my arms used to go numb after extended play; good times
And here's something interesting about the arcade version, the guns are actually the same guns used in 1993's Alien³: The Gun, albeit without the grenade button. Same deal with LA Machine Guns
I've been saying this exact same thing about the Wii/Rail Shooters forever. We've mentioned in many times on Retro Game Haul/Retro Game Lounge tons of times. I own almost every single one you mentioned. Great video MJR. Couldn't agree more, dude.
Resident Evil had another on rail shooter series called Survivor on the playstation that used the g-cons. They were awesome, they had some really interesting boss fights. Highly recommended.
But the GunCon compatibility only applied to Japan and Europe. The American version had this feature removed because Capcom wanted to avoid bad publicity following the Columbine Massacre which made people accuse violent video games for the shooting
MetalJesus- I got introduced to your channel a couple months ago and have to say it is very entertaining. Great job on all your vids. Can't go wrong with a video game nut like yourself who also likes Dream Theatre.
Darkside chronicles (RE) is actually the sequel to umbrella chronicles and it's also on wii. House of the dead 2 and 3 are classics and also on wii and a little know gem of a game: disaster day of crisis! It mixes some genres but the most used is light gun action.
This video is really old but I'll still comment: A) As many people said, Darkside is actually the sequel to Umbrella Chronicles B) There was a special edition for The House of the Dead Overkill which came with the "Hand Cannon", basically a better version of the Wii Zapper, don't wanna spoil too much, google it. There aren't many vids on youtube about it, so if you ever read this comment and manage to get your hands on one of those, I'd love to see you unboxing/reviewing/toying around with that thing
I really enjoyed the a dead Space on rail game released for the Wii. It was an amazing story, gory, actually great graphics and played well on the Wii system.
Loves these games too. Big part of what I enjoyed the Wii so much. You'll probably like Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles on Wii too, it takes you into the Resident Evil 2 & Code Veronica parts of he story. There is also The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return which gives you both 2 & 3 on the one disc for Wii.
Ghost Squad is really fun! I honestly didn't know that House of The Dead: Overkill was based on "grindhouse" style movies...I love those movies!! I need to track down a copy!
Great video, I was a huge fan of Light Gun games growing up. I loved playing Virtua Cop 1/2, Area 51 and Maximum Force on my Saturn! Will have to check some of these out.
MetalJesusRocks Just an FYI in case someone hasn't already mentioned it. Dead Space Extraction was also included with Dead Space 2 on PS3 :) with PS Move support
Overkill is by far the best console rail shooter I've played but my favorite arcade game is either Time Crisis 2, Crisis zone or Police 24/7. If you ever see the initials JAW in England or France that's me.
Jim Giant My fave arcade games were Time Crisis 2 And HOTD 1 & 4. Home Ports were probably Ghost Squad as well as HOtD 2&3. Besides, there are two new On-Rails Arcade games coming out soon. House Of The Dead: Scarlet Dawn and Halo: Fireteam Raven.
Gunslingers is a fun, breezy on-rail shooter that is a fun multi-player...lots of constant shooting and solid controls. Very easy for the family to pick up and play for a few hours.

Me and my friend always boot up House of the Dead II & III on the Wii. Always a fun time. I'll have to grab some of those On-Rail Shooters, they look fun.
Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles is the sequel to Umbrella Chronicles and it is also on the Wii where it came out first, it features a main original plot (Instead of the original plot in UC being at the end) and sub plots that represent the older games (2 and Code Veronica). It is really good.
Out of the games you mentioned, i only own sin and punishment star successor. I haven't had much of a chance to play many wii games but it still amazes me the amount of arcade compilation that the system has for a variety of different game genres.
One I haven't really seen much of, but definitely a hidden gem is Martian Panic. While it's not graphically impressive, I played a lot of when I had my wii and I definitely had a lot of fun with it.
jason i'm surprised to not see the game Western Hereos in your video, bye the way love your videos you make, keep up the good work happy new year to you all
There was House of the Dead 2 and 3 packaged together on the wii which were solid games. in 3 you reload by cooking the wii and nunchuck like a pump action shotgun which felt really satisfying
I have all these games, except for the Mad Dog one and I keep my wii just to play on rail shooters from time to time. Thats really were wii shines. House of the dead overkill is easily the best one.
Wii is a must own system for Rail Shooter fans. So many good ones. One I absolutely love, that isn't on your list, is a game called Dino Strike. Despite having Zoo's logo on the box, the game is a lot of fun.
House of the dead overkill is the switch port that we should have gotten instead of house of the dead one. I bought a switch gun and that’s the only rail shooter on the console, I just got a new Wii and some guns and house of the dead overkill and a bunch of others. The switch needs these games badly!! It’s almost like the on rail light gun shooters are almost forgotten about.
