Dear Lisa, you are the definition of "classy", "elegant" and "refined". You know who a true MUA is when they don't need to apply a 100 layers of thick caked makeup, "bake it" with 8 pounds of loose powder and "highlight" in a way that we can see glowing from outer space... To me, you are The Ultimate MUA, thank you so much for the inspiration
Bravo for this tutorial. We MUST be more responsible and buy less to respect our ever growing packing and old products into the environment. And classic colour and approach to an architectural sound look is ALWAYS in fashion.
twominutetips Is it just me or has marketing of new makeup got more aggressive over the last year or two? Or maybe the explosion in RUclips gurus has something to do with it... Anyway, it seems like there is more makeup available than ever before and no-one can possibly use all that stuff.
I guess in english you just say "bravo" and that's it. Anyway, that's a great point, I'm also cutting off waste in make up and in my lifestyle of consumerism
Thank God somebody in a position of influence such as yourself has stood up and said "use what you have and keep your money in your wallet" . I have to say this... You tube is starting to really leave a "bad taste in my mouth". The amount of money I have spent on the "newer, latest and greatest" products, that somebody on you tube said I had to try, forgetting I already have something in my over stuffed drawers that is almost identical, is really disturbing me. I am at a point where I am making a conscious decision to take a break from you tube entirely and just follow 2 or 3 blogs/websites of artists/professionals I admire. You, of course being one of them.
sacuster...so true!! Lisa is in a Position to make us camp outside Boots and spend all our cash on products we already have. And we do love Make-up and pretty Things, that is why we watch her. But when is enough enough? Nowadays, any Arschloch who walked by a No7 booth or throws 3 blueberries in a bowl and Posts everything they do on Instagram is an influencer or Blogger. What is all the fuss anyway. Read a book, go for walks instead of reading a blog of someone else doing it! And the Beauty industry will not die..a 1 Billion Pound Business is doing alright, thank you very much. Miss England lots!!
Tha's the science of production. Like wet stuff wears out quick while dry lasts longer. Make up artists can't by pass the science of expiry date. Best to have multi purpose and capsule style products to save money then pushing it against the date that's science based. She is just trying to not go over board on buying too many products.
" if I came to your house and I look through your makeup" um this would be a dream come true lol can we make that happen??? Literally this would be the only reality TV I would watch is a show where Lisa comes to your house and look through your makeup and talks to you about it and plays with it
that would be great!team it up with a style guru who does the same with your existing wardrobe and that woukd be a winner!call it "remakeover my style"
Heather Castor I am so tired of all the product launches bombarded at us... This just makes me respect Lisa even more as a makeup artist, didn't know if that was possible 🙆, but she did it!
Fantastic video! It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one feeling overwhelmed with all the new product launches and the pressure to buy the latest and greatest products.😘 I too love trying new things but it’s good to “shop” my own stash and enjoy all the amazing products I already own!
oh my gosh....this kind of common sense video about the blatant consumerism of youtube and make up companies has been long overdue. Yes, there are some good new products, but as you say, many of them are just the same things in a shiny new pkg. I feel sorry for young women in their teens and twenties who get caught up in the hype, believing in order to be beautiful they must have the new product(s) everyone is "loving at the moment". It is such a financial drain. You are so refreshing and such an excellent role model. My fav and real MUA... bar none. Thank you Lisa!
You are probably the only woman I have seen here on youtube that is here to just unselfishly teach. You actually have knowledge and are amazing at your job, are very busy, yet find time to share tips and tricks. And not just about makeup, but about being down to earth. Thank you for that! Also, sometimes I watch your videos on my brother's computer and he catches bits and pieces of them. He just told me he likes you very much even though he's not really into makeup :)
Thank you Lisa. It takes a lot of courage for a person who works in the make up industry to question the consumerism. Only a person like Lisa could come up with such an idea for a make up tutorial. I not only love all your works but also admire you as a person xx
There is an entire community on youtube of people who have been doing this for years. It's great that Lisa is bringing this idea to such a large audience.
Love your perspective Lisa! There is a current trend of "Anti-Hauls" which is great, but your message of basically shopping your stash without hitting us over the head with anti-consumerism rhetoric is really refreshing. You have perfected the art of saying a lot without saying a lot. Well done!
LOVE the message in this video! It's incredibly easy to get caught up in buying heaps of new makeup & often forgetting to even think about ALL that you already have. 😊
Just yesterday I was going to buy Chanel’s powder lipstick and I felt really guilty. I’ve been purchasing things I don’t really need and thought my money could have a better use, like people are dying of hunger and I’m buying a 30 dollar lipstick. I don’t know
I actually think that what youtubers tried to achieve was quite the opposite.. they buy all these products (or get them for free) and review them just so we don't buy everything, we get to see how it performs and looks like, most of the time it's just another product similar to what we already have. Ads scream that we need this and that, but when you look at the videos of youtubers you can see that we actually don't.
The problem I'm seeing nowadays is that many youtubers seem to be sales people, they make really strong pushes for products that are social media popular (who gift them products and/or send PR). In any case, I'm all makeup-ed out - there aren't really any exceptional products coming out and I do have those colors already. lol
THANK YOU. Most of the makeup artists on youtube are constantly pushing the latest PR package products they’ve been sent. The beauty community on youtube is sooo focused on new products and #ads and using every new palette on the market doing the same instagram style makeup look every time. So thank YOU for focusing on wearable makeup, high fashion looks, skin care and personal style. I’m so tired of every youtube video being high coverage, matte lip, winged liner, heavy strip lash. Bless you, a true artist!!!!
I think your tutorial came just on time. We are all in a frenzy to buy new products and especially when we see them featured in youtuber's videos. You are right: we have so many things in our makeup bags that we could use but still want something else. We sjould cultivate thankfulness and gratitude towards what we've already got. Thank you, Lisa. I needed to be reminded this.xx
Lisa, I love your kind of "less is more" style regarding makeup. Other youtubers always put on tons of product, but you just use what you need, and the result is very natural and flattering. I also love your soothing voice, I am sure you get told that often. :D
You are my absolute makeup idol. I love a lot of old Hollywood stars and their glamour but for actual makeup artists you and Mary Greenwell have been so helpful to me. I absolutely adore your philosophy on makeup and your techniques and I have learned so incredibly much from your videos so I just wanted to thank you. I'm 19 and I've been watching your videos for quite a few years and it's been so educational and encouraging, when I was lost in the RUclips beauty guru jungle in search for information and guidance you were like a beacon of light, it's a dream of mine to someday have my makeup done by you and thank you in person for being one of the people who has helped me find my own beauty and glamour through makeup and also just guided be in life unrelated to makeup, because beauty and glamour and classiness is a lot more than just makeup. Sorry for the ramble.
Mina, for a nineteen year old you sound much more grounded and centered than most makeup gurus on youtube. Brava for understanding natural beauty. Lisa was my first makeup artist to watch. She is truly brilliant.
Yes! Mr Goss is wonderful! For some reason I think Lisa and Wayne follow a few spirit's beliefs' ; Way Bandy and Kevyn Aucoin. They both believed in 'enhancing' our natural beauty. Not covering up everything.
I ❤️ EVERYTHING about this video: your message, your blouse, your cool rings, your makeup, your accent, the shade thrown at the makeup industry, your accent, the q-tips, and your hair.
The idea of this video is a true necessity in the midst of the growing makeup industry. I salute you and very much appreciate your authenticity and devotion.
It’s so rare to see such a professional in the make up industry giving a fair and honest opinion on the consumerism going on nowadays, and providing alternatives to still be able glam up without spending too much
I really hope your message gets through because it isn't hard to see that internet-driven cosmetic consumerism is out of control. There's no doubt that somewhere along the way people stopped looking at tutorials from professional makeup artists for advice and started buying up products as if they were MUAs themselves. I know of women who have had to cut up credit cards that they've maxed out purely on makeup. Ridiculous & incredibly sad. Makeup is a 21st century addiction. So thank you so much for this Lisa.Thank you for continually highlighting more affordable products. And thank you for not doing any of those God awful PR unboxing things. I've said it before - you're a class act.
I love this honesty, and the look as well. Especially after seeing a beauty vlogger doing a clear-out video a few days ago stating that she was throwing out hundreds of dollars of high-end eyeshadows she personally loved because they had been discontinued and she "could no longer create content with them." I'm a bit done with the pressure from both beauty PR and vloggers to keep buying the latest and greatest when I already have loads of great makeup I will probably never get around to using up in my lifetime.
Dearest Lisa, I absolutely LOVE not only the message of this tutorial but the collective response from so many subscribers, STOP the constant consumerism and sales side of RUclips! We all have plenty of holy grail products and don't need to waste $ or damage the planet with wasted, unused products. Thank you so much for bringing us back to earth!💕
It is so so so crazy how much you just changed the game! I felt totally lost without any brand names or fancy product descriptions, but as the video went on, I thought "Wow, I can do this! Like, right now! I don't even feel the need for new products!" You are so amazing, Lisa, I hope that this video goes viral!
How lovely and how serendipitous! I just started a buy-nothing YEAR (no makeup or clothes!) and I also started a RUclips channel to document it. It's a wonderful feeling to focus on using what we already have. Thank you, Lisa!
Hannah Louise Poston I’ve Just gone and subbed to you! I plan to do this for a whole year too though I’m not a RUclipsr so will love to share the journey through your videos xxxxx
awesome! Thank you SO much for subscribing! Congrats on starting a buy-nothing year as well. Let me know if you have any requests for videos about relevant topics, etc as the year unfolds and the challenges of a year-long no-buy (!!!!!) become more clear. We can do it!
Hannah Louise Poston oooo! I shall do! Going to watch your current videos now and I shall let you know what I think of for more ideas. So refreshing to see a new channel that isn’t going the extreme minimalist route but also not binge buying like most of the other beauty channels💗😌 xxxx
Great point. To be honest, because of your honest approach I've never felt compelled to buy new things watching your videos (which is also the reason why I stopped watching others makeup YT channels!). You're simply the best.
How refreshing this video is. I love buying new makeup, but I also love to travel, enjoy good food with my friends and family, save for the bigger things in life etc. I didn't realise how much I was caught up in a whole cycle of having to buy new products until now. I feel a kind of sense of relief. I remember watching a video last year where the reviewer said eye shadow palettes only last 6 months and then they should be tossed - m bank account and I are very happy to hear that's not the case. Thank you, Lisa. x
Right? There is this over consummerist and wasteful philosophy being continuously promoted by so-called "makeup gurus". Truly, the only thing that I replace frequently is mascara, like Lisa said in the video, and not even because I count the weeks I've had the product so I toss it, but because within the expected time frame, the product either dries up, runs out, or starts smelling weird.
One of my new year's resolution is consuming less. I'm not buying new makeup unless it is to replace something I finished/expired. This video is perfect, thank you. You're my favorite!
And sorry, just forgot to add in my last comment, it’s so refreshing to see someone who points out how ridiculous it is to have 15 palettes that are almost identical. I feel like people are constantly bombarded with hauls and new PR package videos and monthly favourites that it’s like you JUST feel like you’ve got some good products together and then all of a sudden you’re being recommended something new and “better”. That mentality is crazy!! Commercialism is scary sometimes. Think of all the wasted money!
I love the fact that you're so down to earth and even though u make a living out of make up, you don't seem to condone consumptive behavior. most beauty 'gurus' out there are just trying to make big bucks and keep buying and reviewing products and by doing those they're influencing others to do the same instead of focusing on the art itself and loving what they have. You're not scared of using your oldies but goodies stuff but then again you're a make up artist first not youtuber and how great that is!
Thank you Lisa for this video - it reminds me of the good old days of RUclips where makeup videos were about how to do makeup to lift people up and not about products products products. Truly one of the few adults left in RUclips beauty realm. Thank you!!
THANK YOU - this has taken me back to why I loved watching beauty videos. I’m an older viewer and started watching RUclips beauty about 9 years ago. It was when I was getting married and trying to see if I could do my own make up (I didn’t). But it was really about learning how make up was applied, with videos that were similar in concept to this (the quality, of course, wasn’t as high). I loved seeing someone putting on a dark brown eyeshadow, that they’d clearly had for ages and used a lot because they loved it. They’d maybe mention which it was, but that wasn’t he focus. I loved hearing all the hints and tips to make your existing make up work for different looks. I understand why the YT beauty community changed to “here’s the new super expensive pallet that I was sent and paid to talk about”, but this is what I fell in love with. You, pixiwoo and Kandee Johnson are the only ones I still follow, because I always learn something from your videos. Thank you for taking it back.
I love this tutorial. I have been watching your videos for several years, and as a university student without much money to spend on makeup, this was a great reminder that I really don't need the trendiest items. I can keep using the stuff that I know works for me, and create equally great looks. On another note: your makeup style is so classic. Your finished looks always appear simultaneously gorgeous and effortless. Thanks for making videos.
I feel exactly the same way! I went through a phase of RUclips fuelled buying frenzy, and now I have so many foundations and palettes sitting there waiting to be used. Due to this I tend to probably use more product than I should in order to try and get through it all. Have now made a rule that I have to completely use up one thing (one pan in a palette) or an entire bronzer before buying a new one, rather than buying “backups” as if the world is going to end. :)
Your focus into everyone’s beauty kit in this video was so friendly and honest. Isn’t that how we all are, when we get together and play with makeup together? I have this, you have that, how does it look, what’s good what’s not. It’s valuable to hear what others are finding as they try to build the looks they want. Thanks you for creating that space.
Thank you for your thoughts on consumerism, shelf life, and taking a break. I know it is okay to use my existing makeup. Having it seconded is a great thing!
Lisa, thank you so much for this. You are without a doubt, the most level headed and talented makeup artist on youtube. We all needed this, makeup culture and spending is getting out of control and I know I need to scale it back. You're a true gift to this platform.
I really love the message of this video...such a breath of fresh air! Thank you for always keeping it classy and reminding us that as great and exciting new launches are, there's no reason to get it if we have something very similar in our current collection already! X
I just had a fantasy....Lisa coming to my house and going through my makeup and talking about it. What fun that would be! I can honestly say she is someone I would LOVE to meet. Such an interesting person❤️
This video speaks to me on so many levels, I hope you do more and I hope this idea catches on. I am so overwhelmed by the consumerism of makeup right now. I just.... everything is so same same and there's nothing innovative or even different color schemes. No one needs five eyeshadow palettes that look exactly the same. Sure, there are the folks out there who are in the industry or are collectors, and that's totally fine. But, most of us are just "everyday" people who don't need to have a million of the same things. I love the idea of doing tutorials that just use your favorite things, or things that fit the look you're going for etc. I just... yay. This video (and you, as always) are a breath of fresh are. Xo
Hi Lisa! I’ve been a silent fan since 2012, thank you for being such an inspiration. Sometimes when I apply my make I ask to myself “what would Lisa do?”. Thank you thank you thank you. I’m visiting London the two last weeks of February, and I’m hoping to come across you at some point oh god just a dream 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 xxx from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Great concept Lisa! It does get overwhelming at times, and I feel I often have a certain fear of missing out on all the new products reviewed and shown on RUclips every month. This was a well needed reminder that there are already loads of trusty, good products that are just fine to come back to!
Dear Lisa, this is such a timely video and the word 'saturated' really does cover it. Thank you for maintaining your sensible approach to makeup and beauty. You always remind me why makeup is the best kind of fun there is. Best, V 💖
Thank you for putting into words how I've actually been feeling lately! I have so many beautiful pigments and palettes that I've barely dipped my brush into and I'd like to take the next few months to utilize my creativity skills and just enjoy what I have for the time being :)
Lisa, you have completely changed my makeup routine and I couldn't be happier about it. After years of watching nothing but youtube beauty gurus, I started realizing that what I had learned from them just was not working for me anymore. After finding your channel, I've not only learned tons of new techniques, I've also become way more confident in my natural features and started utilizing them instead of changing them. Thank you so much for everything.
Just when I thought I couldn't admire you more, you go and do it again! Really appreciate the anti consumerism vibe of this video and happy to watch sheer talent rather than new products shoved into our faces every day by so called 'beauty gurus'.
Such a good message. In a world where we always look for "the next big thing" it's so refreshing to just stop and appreciate what we have, things that stand the test of time. And focus on the process of putting on makeup, not brands or cool new products. Much love Lisa! xx
Thank you, Lisa, for saying something about the consumerism in makeup trends! I've been going back to having just what I need for my makeup, and not having tons of unnecessary products. It is crazy how many products are being marketed these days, and I think that it can only last so long before the fad pops and people get tired of having oodles of $50 eyeshadow palettes! I have a feeling that the crazy amount of makeup releases will eventually slow down in a few years from now when women realize how silly it is to constantly buy new products you could never use up. I personally use mainly Besame cosmetics - a simple foundation, blush, lipstick, powder, mascara, eyeliner, and one main eyeshadow palette. It is much more luxurious to do my makeup in a clean environment, not one cluttered with oodles of messy makeup!
Blood Majesty I think they need to come up with sample or trial or travel size Palletes that you only use for a few weeks and then you can buy the next new Pallete. No waste of money and product We forget how to we have expired make up in our “ collections” and how much money u waste on make up . Calculate how much the products add up to that are you everyday make up . $447 for basic daily make up $28 cream $38 primer $60 foundation $12 sunscreen $75 Pallete ( blush/ highlighter/ eyeshadow/bronzer) $21 eyebrow pencil $26 lip liner $34 lipstick $294 product total $20beauty blender $25 highlighter brush $48bronzer brush $35 blush brush $25 eye shadow brush $153 tools total Total $447 total for daily basic make up
Lashlove 16 Or a mix and match palette where you can choose the mix that you will definitely use all of them for the price of the palette. I love variety, but certain color is a total no go so it feels like a massive waste, leaving them untouched yet I really don't want to put them on. Seeing youtubers with heaps of palette, yet you can clearly see they only use a few colors in each one feels very depressing.
Blood Majesty omg totally agreed . My original naked Palette I only used 4 colors . Anastasia and inglot have good quality eyeshadows that you can make your Pallets with different sizes .
You just reminded me why you're one of my favourite people to watch. I agree, it's easy to get fatigued in this day and age where new makeup products are constantly being released. It's nice to just enjoy ones' one collection for a change!
So refreshing. Thank you. I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of products I own and the amount of new products coming out. It’s nice to just hear someone say “You don’t need to buy more, enjoy what you have.” Great message.
I ADORE you so much and this message! I recently did a video on why I'm NOT buying any Makeup or Nail polishes in 2018 for the exact same reason. Consumerism is at an all time high multiplied across various social medias - even as a beauty lover it's beginning to be a bit too much for me as well. Loved this message and I'll definitely be participating in this #buynothing movement.
Zenorah I'm on a 7 day spending freeze. It's been hard work I'm on day 4. Need A bit more planning and forethought in the morning but I've saved loads already! Coffee out wasn't a luxury anymore, and I am really looking forward to my next Costa lol
Thank you, Lisa. Your video was so refreshing. For years I have been following bloggers and adding to my stash with "latest" products and now I find myself having a real purge and going back to the basics. Old favourites and a few for special occasions are really all that is needed. Your channel and advice is the best!!
You look SO young and fresh holy crap?? you're the first beauty channel I ever watched so I've seen you since i was 13 and you look the best ever in this video
This video is so incredible. I love that Lisa uses product that is clearly well loved. The message on this video is absolutely spot on! Also, who else did a happy smile at the thought of Lisa Eldrige visiting their home to look through makeup?
I can’t tell you how much I love and appreciate this video. I think loving makeup and being on trend with makeup have somehow blended in a weird way and more is more and it’s become too much. Being in the beauty industry myself, I know first hand how overwhelming new products are for my clients. It’s really refreshing and admiring to see you bring it all back down to real life here on RUclips. I’m truly such a fan!
This is so refreshing, Lisa! And it’s no wonder such a video, with this kind of message, will come from you. I’ve decided, and I’m trying to stick with it, not to buy anything new for some time - I went crazy between Black Friday and the winter Sales, bought loads of makeup, and now I definitely don’t need anything anymore. I’ll try not to let launches and adverts and instagram get to me. The fact that you of all people would launch this same message will surely comfort me in this choice! Lots of love ❤️
Loved this!!! Minimalism. I found that without the clutter of product names and brands, I was so much more focused on your technique, and it was soothing. It reminds me of when I walked into a store the other day and it was so quiet. I didn't notice right away that the store's sound system was broken, I just felt so calm and relaxed and the experience was so much more enjoyable. I was more focused, and felt like I could take my time. I eventually noticed it was because there was no blaring music and it surprised me so much! I told the saleswoman I loved it and they should keep their sound system broken :) Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses 🌹
Love you, Lisa! You are most genuine, most down-to-earth artist I know. I look up to you like a beautiful cloud in a summer sky yet it surprises me how I can relate to everything you say. It's because you are a true person! Thanks for being one. More power to you and your magnificence!
Yes! For me it was guessing the Becca would show up again and probably some Suqqu. :-) (I'd also thought we might see that Clinique pen concealer, she did use that for quite a while as well, but not this time.)
This is precisely why we love you so much. While all the others are still pushing the endless array of new products you are quietly, beautifully and elegantly saying “make do”. It can be so tiresome being interested in makeup but hearing buy buy buy every time I want to learn a bit more. So thank you from the bottom of my very grateful ❤️ 😘
Thanks Lisa. We must be on the same wavelength. I have been going back to my longtime faves recently as well. I agree with your take on makeup saturation at this time.
Me too. I started getting so overwhelmed with the random bits and pieces I had and trying to use them. I’ve gone back to my original favourites over the past 6 months. Cream lip/blush and highlight. Cream eyeshadow with maybe something glittery patted on top. I’m donating the bits I’m not going to use to a women’s refuge. Trying to make it easier for myself going back to my normal looks and making sure I have only a few other evening looks in my bag, I started getting upset with looking not right and that isn’t what it’s about. So I’m going to find a couple of extras to finish my capsule makeup bag and that’s it.
theEMILYmovement that’s what I did . Life is beautiful since I have a very small amount of only the best of the best . It’s easier to get ready and I enjoy it again
Thank you so much. A few days ago, I was just asked to join a medical center after receiving my MD. With the amount of hours I'll be working, lack of sleep, high-volume and high stress, I've been contemplating what I can do to allow myself to look put together without buying an entirely new makeup collection. This was simple, polished, and as always gorgeous. 😘 # buynothing is exactly what the doctor ordered (no pun intended.)
Thank you so much for saying something about this crazy consumerism in makeup ! I think that last year was really crazy and the amount of products that have been released was insane! Nothing special, a lot of similarities and i just feel really overwhelmed!
Lisa, I have to say that this is one of the best videos you have ever done! And a girl who loves every single video of your is saying that! With a lot of new releases going around, they always make us feel like we're missing a product. Emphasizing that we don't need so many things to create something beautiful is priceless to me. I keep buying makeup and I am overwhelmed by the things I own as well. Thank you for this video!
Totally agree! Much needed video, Lisa! Tired of all the gurus urging us to buy the latest wonder product and then I cannot really tell the difference between the new product and the good old lovey... Good classics live 4 ever (as long as they are not discontinued...) Congrats dear Lisa!
Thank you soooo much for making this video. I have challenged myself to go for 12 months without buying any "new" makeup. I'm currently on month 7 and it's so much fun! I allow myself to buy replacements for anything I run out of (foundation, mascara etc) but otherwise I am using up my current eyeshadow palettes, blushes, lip products.
Thank you so much for this video, just before I saw you on my feed, I had unsubscribed from two very popular youtubers because of their constant buy buy buy videos...beauty and makeup for me are not about running out to buy products, but rather about creativity, and to be honest your voice and technique are very soothing....almost like watching Bob Ross paint :)#buynothing
I like not showing the products and just linking them below. That way it's easier to focus on creating a similar effect rather than buying an exact shade or product. Hope this becomes a trend. Also, I guessed the blush, highlighter, brow pencil, and eyeshadow palette!
Thanks for this Lisa 👏👏 i can't afford new makeup all the time, so this is great. I can do this look with what I've already got, apart from the lip stick. I need to stop just using lipbalm. Thanks again.
Carol Blackley some nice nudes I can recommend are Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’ (pinky Nude - the one Lisa is using in this, though looks a bit darker in real life) and ‘Iconic Nude’ (true beige nude), Colourpop ‘Skimpy’ (peachy nude), Graftobian ‘Natural’ (rose Nude), NYX ‘Peekaboo Natural’ (pinky Nude). 😁👍
I’m so glad you made this video! There has been so much pressure as a makeup connoisseur to keep up with all of the latest launches (and maybe its only pressure I’m putting on myself), but it’s just gotten overwhelming. I want to get ‘back to my roots’ and only use products that I’m loyal to, or purchase only things that seem truly unique, groundbreaking, and worth my money, versus everything that social media makes me feel like I need. Thank you Lisa! ❤️
Seriously, the makeup industry has been flooded with a load of beauty palettes, lipsticks, mascaras, lashes & HIGHLIGTERS of every kind...It gets to be a claustrophobic moment when my email acct is jam packed with news of a new palette release....which is almost everyday....Hate that feeling...I try to go easy & use what I have...TY for the makeup tutorial.
Always a pleasure to see your videos! It is very refreshing to see a makeup tutorial without advertising the products! Just application, technique and tips! Thank you Lisa!
I have beauty fatigue. I look at these RUclipsrs who show off more makeup than they can use in several lifetimes and I think it's such a waste. I just don't get excited when I go into Sephora or Ulta anymore. I also think it has something to do with the fact that I've tried expensive "must have" brands and have been disappointed. I used to love makeup, but now I just don't care anymore. Not that I don't care, but it doesn't excite me the way it used to. I'm trying to use up what I already have. I am on a low buy and only replace things that are staples like concealer or foundation. I even have so many deluxe samples to tide me over.
I am the same. As a stay at home mom, I do my skin care and makeup in the morning in 5 mins. I used to be obsessed with makeup and do full on looks everyday, but now I just don't have time. And I had a huge clear out and threw away a lot of makeup that had gone bad. I go to Ulta or Sephora like twice a year now.
SO OVERWHELMING YES!!! It's all become a competition, everyone coming out with "new" products that are all the same as older ones! Love your down to earth videos!
I wouldn't say so. Almost everyone use the same type of make up, everyone even looks the same, and when a girl comes out with something really different and flashy we all become interested in her. That's how it works.
Lovely look on you. I so appreciate what you're saying about being a bit overwhelmed by the increasing avalanche of new products. I too have old loves, and encouraged by you today, I'll dig yet more of them out! X
This is great. I have a small makeup collection, but it has slowly grown over the years. The biggest thing I learned, is that skin products are the ones I splurge a bit on: a very good foundation, a decent powder, a great concealer, and a couple primers for different effects with the foundation. "colour" products, such as lipsticks, however, can be found with great quality and variety at drugstores and cheap shops. There are outstanding lipsticks, eyeshadows, cream blushes, all on very low prices. Maybelline, Nyx, Wet N Wild, all of them have really good quality makeup lines if you want to try something new. With mascaras, I have a trick I also learned over the years. Every time you buy skincare and it is a brand that also does makeup (clinique, Estee Lauder, Lancome..), ask for samples. They usually have it and give you something complimentary with your purchase. Ask if they have mascara ones. Small tubes, easier to carry in the purse and you use them up before they go off. Also, you end up with several different mini spoolies to use afterwards too. That's what I do. It's been some time since I bought my last mascara. :D
I can say this is the best make up tutorial. it says lots of thing to young generations and teachs alot about how to keep make up simple but have elegant look . I am your fan. and I've been watching your tutorials for a few years and you changed my mind about my make up and skin a lot. when I watch your videos and I get relax Bcoz of your relaxing voice and I get your energy through it, I used to be an Instagram make up falower with lots of make up and products ,but now I see make up diffrently , thank you and I love you Lisa
Thanks so much for this Lisa. I started following make up artists to learn the techniques and get inspiration on looks, but everyone I follow has become so focused on new products. Whether there are sponsorships or money involved or not, I don't really care I just would rather see the focus return to how to do certain looks instead of, you simply must buy this new primer even though I recommended 10 other good ones in the past :-)
Thank you. Such a breath of fresh air! I know I feel this right now as I'm sure many women do. While it's fun to try new things lately it's overwhelming and there's so much pressure actually to use the new products as well. Especially in the beauty community. This can cost so much money and you end up with a pile of products that are essentially the same. My little sister loves eyeshadow palettes and she has so many, purchased mainly by me lol funnily enough her doting big sis. She ends up using the newest mainly and using similar colors 😂 It's not necessary. I'm glad to see someone like you use your platform to say this because we do get wrapped up in consumerism.
J LP Don't be so ridiculous. It's a pathetic snowflake expression.Try investing in a dictionary.I suppose when you go shopping you shop in the retail community,or when you go to the dentist you get fillings from the orthodontal community???!
SO refreshing to hear you say about product overwhelm. It's easy to feel like I *need* to buy new products every time I watch a new tutorial, when often it's about making it work with what you've got. The look you did was beautiful and one I could easily recreate without spending a penny. Thank you Lisa! x
THIS IDEA IS AMAZING. I think the beauty community needs to focus more on the "how to" and less on the "with this".
Alba V "The beauty community" ??? Get a grip!!
Very well put.
Alba V I love this phrase 👌
well said!
Well said.
MerryCherry Totally agree😍 Lisa is such an inspiration❤️
Brigitta Balazs Right???? :'D
YESSSS!!!!
It's making all the instagram girls look like drag queens.
Bravo for this tutorial. We MUST be more responsible and buy less to respect our ever growing packing and old products into the environment. And classic colour and approach to an architectural sound look is ALWAYS in fashion.
(Please excuse me for being rude but you should type 'brava' for a female!)
twominutetips Is it just me or has marketing of new makeup got more aggressive over the last year or two? Or maybe the explosion in RUclips gurus has something to do with it... Anyway, it seems like there is more makeup available than ever before and no-one can possibly use all that stuff.
Wack and Snooze bravo is an expression that means well done in Spanish. She said it right
Kate Donovan well actually it's italian and we say brava for women but nevermind 😂
You, of course being one of them.
amen to that! I totally agree with you!!!!
sacuster...so true!!
I love the fact you are not crazy about shelf life and you saying aloud that you're still using old stuff it's so natural and genuine
Dominika Mizia why i love her so much❤️
not just you;) she is truly inspiration & one of not so many authentic youtubers
i want her to talk about which products last years despite expiration date lol pls
Yeah I thought I was being bad for keeping eye shadow for so long.
Literally this would be the only reality TV I would watch is a show where Lisa comes to your house and look through your makeup and talks to you about it and plays with it
Dara Smith lmao I would watch it too!
Dara Smith omg right 😂😍
sign me up!!!
that would be great!team it up with a style guru who does the same with your existing wardrobe and that woukd be a winner!call it "remakeover my style"
Now that is a breath of fresh air!
Swati Bishnoi I was literally about to comment the exact same thing!
Heather Castor I am so tired of all the product launches bombarded at us... This just makes me respect Lisa even more as a makeup artist, didn't know if that was possible 🙆, but she did it!
Swati Bishno
Swati Bishnoi totes Bella BAD!
Fantastic video! It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one feeling overwhelmed with all the new product launches and the pressure to buy the latest and greatest products.😘 I too love trying new things but it’s good to “shop” my own stash and enjoy all the amazing products I already own!
Agree! I feel like all the product launches are out of control.
#buynothing
It's so wonderful to see how down to earth and true to your principles you are.
violetahumanoid 😘😘😘😘
Just eferotlly gorgeous xxx
+Maquiagem para Eles Amen.
oh my gosh....this kind of common sense video about the blatant consumerism of youtube and make up companies has been long overdue.
Omgosh I love this!! I am over the consumerism right now too. Falling back in love with our products should happen often
Thank you Lisa. It takes a lot of courage for a person who works in the make up industry to question the consumerism. Only a person like Lisa could come up with such an idea for a make up tutorial. I not only love all your works but also admire you as a person xx
Nikki Kamo you're so right! Very courageous!
Missy Cougnet Very True!
Just yesterday I was going to buy Chanel’s powder lipstick and I felt really guilty. I’ve been purchasing things I don’t really need and thought my money could have a better use, like people are dying of hunger and I’m buying a 30 dollar lipstick. I don’t know
yes, especially for young people, looking at these youtubers.
Manuela Aigbomobe AMEN!! A bold and brilliant move!
I'm so mesmerized by the rings you wear
I wish more people would do more videos like this instead of having "must have" brown shade #3567 from Sephora or whatever. Great idea for a video !
Lisa, I love your kind of "less is more" style regarding makeup. Other youtubers always put on tons of product, but you just use what you need, and the result is very natural and flattering.
I also love your soothing voice, I am sure you get told that often. :D
i couldn't agree more with you! :)
Thanks for your lovely comment X
Mina, for a nineteen year old you sound much more grounded and centered than most makeup gurus on youtube. Brava for understanding natural beauty. Lisa was my first makeup artist to watch. She is truly brilliant.
Wayne Goss is another super genuine and talented MUA on YT. A few of his vids have actually made me cry.
Yes! Mr Goss is wonderful! For some reason I think Lisa and Wayne follow a few spirit's beliefs' ; Way Bandy and Kevyn Aucoin. They both believed in 'enhancing' our natural beauty. Not covering up everything.
a voice of reason in this consumerism industry! thank you!
I ❤️ EVERYTHING about this video: your message, your blouse, your cool rings, your makeup, your accent, the shade thrown at the makeup industry, your accent, the q-tips, and your hair.
ozomari not q-tips we’re English!!! Cotton buds
L H my bad 🤗
ozomari 😂❤️
Lisa is the best MUA in the world imo. she has more class in her pinky finger than most of these beauty gurus have in their whole bodies.
ozomari yes! You’ve said exactly what I was thinking!
So relieved to hear that the Master is overwhelmed by all these products! I feel so much better about my paltry stash....all I need.
*drop everything to watch the queen*
Lol same
Baby Alien yes!!!
I don't even feel the need for new products!"
You are so amazing, Lisa, I hope that this video goes viral!
Such a refreshing concept Lisa! I'm about to do 'no buy' February and March to cut back on my beauty spending so this was perfectly timed x
How lovely and how serendipitous! I just started a buy-nothing YEAR (no makeup or clothes!) and I also started a RUclips channel to document it. It's a wonderful feeling to focus on using what we already have. Thank you, Lisa!
I know...I feel like it's a sign from the universe that I'm on the right track!
Hannah Louise Poston I’ve
Just gone and subbed to you!
This is such a breath of fresh air on RUclips. Thank you so so much. You are truly so lovely.
Veronica Rodriguez that is my goal this year as well!
This is the best video for this moment with so many new products lunching every day. I love the way you explain everything. Kisses from Argentina
Such an interesting person❤️
spottedbutt add to the fantasy for her to do your make up .., I would just die !!!
Florencia Cáceres estoy viendo muchas argentinas!! Me alegro que haya otras chicas que compartan mi amor por Lisa jaja ❤❤
Eliana Morales siiiiii!!!! Que buenoooo yo soy fan hace años!! Que bueno que seamos mas!!
Best, V 💖
I have so much respect for Lisa. The artistry, her values, her message.
Katrina Holte omg I feel exactly the same !!!!
Especially eyeshadow palettes with 50++ color variety like seriously... unless you are a professional, I doubt you will use even half of that palette.
Blood Majesty I think they need to come up with sample or trial or travel size Palletes that you only use for a few weeks and then you can buy the next new Pallete.
No waste of money and product
We forget how to we have expired make up in our “ collections” and how much money u waste on make up . Calculate how much the products add up to that are you everyday make up . $447 for basic daily make up

$12 sunscreen
$75 Pallete ( blush/ highlighter/ eyeshadow/bronzer)
$21 eyebrow pencil
$26 lip liner
$34 lipstick
$294 product total
$20beauty blender
$25 highlighter brush
$48bronzer brush
$35 blush brush
$25 eye shadow brush

Total $447 total for daily basic make up
Lashlove 16 Or a mix and match palette where you can choose the mix that you will definitely use all of them for the price of the palette.
I've been exhausted by the consumerism today. It's nice to know a MUA feel the same.
I didn‘t think that I could respect and love you and your content anymore but after this I do!
Very classy and universal💛Loving the tutorial as always!☺️
Love you, Lisa! You are most genuine, most down-to-earth artist I know. I look up to you like a beautiful cloud in a summer sky yet it surprises me how I can relate to everything you say. It's because you are a true person! Thanks for being one. More power to you and your magnificence!
Karla Manalang m
I bet we can guess which products Lisa used just from knowing her style and watching her videos over the years!
April Yes! I was able to identify the foundation, highlighter, eyebrow pencil, and lip pencil. XD
Same here as well as the blush and eyeshadow
Yes! For me it was guessing the Becca would show up again and probably some Suqqu. :-) (I'd also thought we might see that Clinique pen concealer, she did use that for quite a while as well, but not this time.)
the Suqqu eyebrow pancil definitely:P
or read the description ;)
This is precisely why we love you so much. While all the others are still pushing the endless array of new products you are quietly, beautifully and elegantly saying “make do”. It can be so tiresome being interested in makeup but hearing buy buy buy every time I want to learn a bit more. So thank you from the bottom of my very grateful ❤️ 😘
Thanks Lisa. We must be on the same wavelength. I have been going back to my longtime faves recently as well. I agree with your take on makeup saturation at this time.
isisny801 I actually thought about the products I used 20 years ago and still love and use most of them
# buynothing is exactly what the doctor ordered (no pun intended.)
I’ve decided 2018 is my no buy year for makeup except mascara when needed. I have so much I’ve not even used. Wish me luck and resolve!
Letty Alfonso same for me this year! Good luck
Letty Alfonso I'm doing 2018 nobuy. Hashtag Palette is making me weak so I'm sitting in my collection!
Year’s up. How’s your experiment?
Truly one of the best makeup artists in the industry right now. Personality and talent on point.
Thanks for this Lisa 👏👏 i can't afford new makeup all the time, so this is great. I can do this look with what I've already got, apart from the lip stick. I need to stop just using lipbalm. Thanks again.
Carol Blackley I like using a pencil with lip balm over, even clear balm. Feels lovely and still have a touch of colour from the pencil 👍😊
kiwigirljacks i don't even have a lip pencil 😱 i am gonna rectify that though and soon! 😁
This is awesome. Conscious little changes like this have the most impact. ♥️🌱🌎
T. Roma great tips!!
I appreciate it so much that you list the brushes that you use in your descriptions box. It is very useful for me and I would like to thank you.
This is absolutely true, Lisa, the joy is in the creating. And you can surely do that!
I'm glad someone with influence in the beauty community is finally talking about this.
Tashie "Beauty community" ?? For god's sake!!!
Andrew Palframan ??? lol what am I suppose to call it?
It's the accepted term, whether you personally like it or not Andrew. Palframan.
J LP Don't be so ridiculous. It's a pathetic snowflake expression.Try investing in a dictionary.I suppose when you go shopping you shop in the retail community,or when you go to the dentist you get fillings from the orthodontal community???!
Tashie Er try industry!
SO refreshing to hear you say about product overwhelm. It's easy to feel like I *need* to buy new products every time I watch a new tutorial, when often it's about making it work with what you've got. The look you did was beautiful and one I could easily recreate without spending a penny. Thank you Lisa! x
