Foster from the shelter. If your dog accepts others, you could start now. Shelter fosters are usually for a few days to weeks. Shelters often need short term homes for dogs transitioning to permanent owners, dogs stressed out and in need of some quiet and some space, dogs too young for adoption, etc. Animal rescue fosters may be longer term but for similar reasons. I like dogs but can't commit to caring for one for 15 to 18 years. Fostering has been my solution.

Just discovered this video. This seemed as if it was written about me. In retirement, I'm much more selective about who I choose to spend time with, I eliminate as many commitments as possible, I am happier with simple things, I enjoy the security of self-sufficiency . Further, I have less tolerance for conflict (which is unavoidable with a woman in the house or in my life). I can completely reinvent myself and I don't care who takes issue with it. I worked hard in a difficult, dangerous, tense environment for 40 years and I owe it to myself to give my psyche a break from all that. I can attend to my health and fitness. I can pursue any activity that entertains me. I don't have to impress anyone and I refuse to even try. Friends and family will sort themselves out. Those who accept me for who I am will stay, all others will be eliminated. Enjoyed this video. Didn't know this was a known movement. Liked and subscribed.

Nothing to do with being a man. It is the same for women. Living alone has tremendous advantages for those inclined to do so. For some, it is lonely, certainly. For others, it is freedom itself.

Maybe for some women, but most men would live alone in their early adulthood to escape what women bring to a relationship; drama, constant badgering, no accountability and no reciprocation.

I can do what I want, when I want to do it, all of the time. I could not discuss any 'issues' with my ex because, according to her, discussion was considered 'conflict.' So, as a result it was silence for 10 years. Silence with a mate equals frustration and a slave role. Silence with one's self equals peace.

Back in 2020 The virtual closure of the NHS caused the premature death of my wife, best friend and my reason for living due to a treatable heart condition. She was 2 months from retirement and we had plans. I will never forgive and never forget.
I am happy to be alone with my thoughts and memories. I do look after her grandchildren aged 13 and 9 Friday evening to Sunday morning so the parents can work (in retail). We had been doing this since they were 6 months old so I am definitely Grandad. It is their second home!
I have moved away from the manufactured drama of modern life and I am quite content pursuing my many hobbies and interests. I do, however, enjoy social media!
I cannot imagine living with someone again.

I opened the gates and let all the little ducklings run free, and I’m enjoying sitting in the peaceful pond on my own. Gate is still open, and now the little ducklings can make their own decision whether they want to share my pond or not. Either way, I have found my happiness in the quiet.

I'm 67 and this video NAILED IT! for me in every item talked about. I find myself to be alone a lot. There are times I like it that way but there's little bits of time when it gets me down. I only have one friend; and he's not the best quality for me. It seems like finding good quality of people around my age is impossible. I'm sure I'm not all that great, either!
I live in a city, and the community I live at has been nice and quiet. That's important to me since I can't tolerate loud noises. But lately the nice and quiet place has changed. There's all kinds of construction going on with remodeling and a new apartment building going up. I want to leave at where I live but I don't know where to go. I would like to live in a rural area but I don't know anyone in an area where I would like to move to. And I have a fear of moving to a new place by myself not knowing anyone.

Simplifying and creating freedom particularly hit home, and I had already set up my reading corner in a comfortable part of the house. Thank you and hoping others find this video as affirming as had I.

Newly retired and divorced, I find I miss the companionship of a trusted partner. I also wish I had some trusted friends that shared some of my interests. Here’s the real issue as I see it, it’s not about being alone per se. No. Imho, it’s about choosing to be alone if the alternative is to around/with a person or people you don’t truly connect with and trust. Also, the people I let into my life now must want to be in my life and demonstrate it. Otherwise, I’d rather just be alone. Finally, yes, I do get lonely and sad at times. Cest la vie, I suppose.

Thanks. That was helpful. I was married to my accepting wife for 51 years and cared for her with MS for 26 years before she passed in 2022. I am 77. But I am gay, medically proven. I always was. My wife was totally accepting. My adult kids are accepting which great. I am now free to be the man I always was. But I am not looking looking for a boyfriend/husband. I am content to just live alone and enjoy my life. I keep well fortunately and walk a lot. I also go on seniors bus trips which helps keep me from feeling too lonely.

Some of us only knew a life of largely rejection, sat down and looked at the big picture, and adjusted to those doors that were open, and those doors that were closed. If you chose to navigate life, you made the choices that made sense to YOU YOURSELF. No one else. And if you set sail with the right mindset, you came out on the other side, smiled and said, “Not Bad!”

I can’t say, I choose to be alone because I’m broken and aren’t getting fixed at this point. Growing up I couldn’t wait to be living on my own, I spent a couple years here and there alone until I got married. 14 years after I was looking for a residence again, then at 61 I finally got a place for me alone, 9 years later still alone. Love it. I have family close by.
