I’ve haven’t seen this movie, but wow, those 2D bits with Sherlock’s Mind Palace look absolutely delightful.
They're basicly the only good parts of the movie. I mean , just cut out Gnomeo and Juliet and you'll get a pretty decent movie. Still pretty trash , but it would be somewhere between The Gummy Bear Movie and This Video. Not the best , but not completly atrocious.

It actually made me genuinely angry how fucking good the art and the animation are. Like, in general, let alone for a garbage pile of a movie like that. Textures look amazing, I can feel them - I mean look at the gnome king's or whoever he's supposed to (the one who retires) hat! How it's rubbed off and worn! Movements are very smooth and fluid, well-timed, and have a very nice rhythm to them. And it's done so well and organically, that the facts that gnomes are textured like ceramics yet their clothes move like fabric don't even look clashing at all, that's insane. And the best part is character design. Literally all character design is almost exceptionally good - characters that are supposed to be different toys or objects all look unique and distinct, stylistically, texture-wise, etc. What a fucking waste of artistic skill and talent!!
This one looks too smooth. All the gnomes are too smooth. The first one the characters had visible, small dents, scratches, ware and tear, etc. But still, great animations
Yeah also the lighting is pretty good and the blush is really cute in general apart from the frog and Moriarte the characters are really well designed I really hope the animators were payed good for this since it's the only good part of the movie and also parts of the vioce acting are pretty good.

You know what's sad? That whole "Watson was the culprit" twist would have been a really good twist if it had taken place as one of the original short stories. Imagine the original Watson going out of his way to create the most baffling of mysteries just to get back at Sherlock for leaving their flat a mess for the 10 millionth time! Of course, then the real plot twist would be that Sherlock knew it was Watson along and was just pretending to be fooled because he really does value Watson's friendship and decided to throw a dog a bone.

Many years ago I legitimately drove to another state in a snowstorm for no other reason than to find a working VCR with which to watch The Great Mouse Detective. On Christmas Eve. It was completely worth it.
I own that movie. Tranafered it to DVD to keep it in its original form. As a kid and later aa a Sherlock Holmes fan, I just love that movie. It's a great animated detective movie.
The animation is so gorgeous it's infuriating.
Perhaps he meant the 2D animation? I was reading through the comments looking for someone praising it, because it so much better than the basic, ugly computer animation.

The texturing is impressive, it actually does look like the gnomes are made of clay, ceramic, etc. It's kind of like how in Toy Story 3 you could actually see the faded paint, scratched plastic, etc. on the toys. 3D Animation can look amazing, it's just the writers/directors have to give a shit too.

Not really? For a cheap kids movie they actually put a ton of effort I to making them look like gnomes. The paint and clay texturing look great, and are chipped and weathered in a way that makes them nearly look real. And the animations are smooth and expressive
It's not exactly *Disney*, but there was clearly talent and passion put into the CG. I'd honestly love to see what this crew could do, if they weren't held down by shitty writers, and their bottom-of-the-barrel concepts

4:37 legit, in the portuguese version of the first movie she is the best thing in the entire movie. Her jokes aren't directly translated so they actually had to come up with something good, and they kinda did! She was my favorite character and, for real, the only reason I insisted my parents brought the DVD when I was little.

Honestly, that animation - among others - was actually used as a title card that played after the trailer. It was shown in cinemas. Real. Fucking. Cinemas.
I saw that in cinemas as an advert played before i watched solo with my family. The dabbing isn't the only one. There was also one whipping & nay-naying and one performing the weird disco move where you point your finger into the air.
my mom had a gnome that was gnomeo and left it by a tree for years until I think my brothers broke it in half (they threw it) and then my father had an idea and hang gnomeo's upper body on the side of the tree and on the other side of the tree theres his lower half so each time when we see him we just laugh XD

English teachers in Australia were forced to show Gnomeo and Juliet along side studying Romeo and Juliet (at least my year was), might happen at various other schools too which is why I blame the "massive" gross of the movie on the Syllabus of the time.

When I read Romeo and Juliet in my English class (which was in America BTW), my teacher showed me some scenes from the DiCaprio film adaptation of the play rather than the "gnomed" version, along with some other videos of the play that were a bit different from what we read. Perhaps it's because Gnomeo and Juliet had too many scenes that strayed far from the plot of the original play's script (even if it's just to be more kid-friendly), such as the complete removal of the Romeo/Juliet death scene at the end of their love story.
We studied the DiCaprio film and just watched Gnomeo and Juliet, other classes studied Gnomeo and Juliet but my teacher thought it was a bit of a joke. Was only used to support the book though so it wasn't anything major. (That's at least how I remember it, was a while ago now lol)
Lucky I was never shown it, as a Brit. I saw a tiny bit of the new version (not gnome tho) and nearly the whole of the old version. :)
I'm American, and we learned about Romeo and Juliet when the gnome one was released in theaters. People in my class (me sadly included) actually decided to watch it on their own, and they thought it was a cute movie (tbh we were 14-15 at the time and had horrible taste).
When Sherlock Gnomes came out i realized "I can't remember a single thing from the first film"
