I bought an HP Z440 on eBay in 2021 for $230 Au. E51620V3 32g ddr4 k2200 Quadro. I put an HP Turbo pci-e nvme adaptor and nvme in. It's blazing. The Turbo pci-e adaptor cost $29 Au as did a brand new HP 256g nvme. Great video bro.

Many thanks for this quality video !!!
    I recovered a z400 found in a bin. Everything works 😀
    PSU: 475w
    CPU : w3550
    GPU : Firepro v3800
RAM 3 Go (motherboard 6 slots)
This is a super piece of robust technology!
    I'm considering the following upgrades:
    w3550 CPU => x5690
    RAM: 8GB x6 1333mhz
    GPU: GTX 1060 6GB.
I'm not a gamer, but I do image and video processing, and I plan to use Linux Mint.
Your feedback will be invaluable. Do you think a front-end fan is necessary? Your ideao to add a quiet fn on the back and replace tohe original one t the front is great !
    Thanks again

Glad I could help! I would say it's probably fine to go without the front fan, you can always add it later if your GPU is running too hot

im running z400 bare stock and if you just maintain it it works great for reliability, when i put aftermarket parts on it reliability drops tho

I think throttle-stop allows the w3690 to be overclocked a bit. Also adding PCI-E to Type C USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card and SATA PCIe Card 6 Gbps SATA 3.0 cards

@@latedreams5188 try 4.00ghz, if it's not stable go for 3.9ghz, keep going down until it gets stable. Then maybe start increasing them again 1 core at a time till you find a sweet spot

An enterprise intel p3600\p3700 NVME drive will work as a boot device in these old systems. I use a 1.6tb p3600 in mine that boots the OS. If you look around you can even still buy them new despite being around a decade or so old at a not silly price.

I got a dual m.2 card with sata and nvme on the same pcie card. Using a small sata drive for clover I got it to work. I did the windows install on a different pc then had to alter the bootloader config by booting into a recovery win10 usb and opening command prompt. It was a pain. Windows likes to take over the bootloader so it had to be done in a fixed order for it to work. You have to make a efi partition on the clover sata ssd. diskpart. create part EFI size=512. Format quick fs=fat32. Make it writable by assign letter=x in diskpart. quit diskpart and in commmand prompt type C:\windows /s X: /f UEFI. After reboot clover should see the mbr on the extra partition on the sata drive which points it to the install on the nvme.

Thank you for sharing this. Wow some great lengths to get that to work, I couldn't imagine trying to do this haha but really cool to hear it does work.

Bit of a waste to be playing fortnuts as this pc is much better than econobox sff hp thinkstations that can run this silly game.
Stick ms❤ flight simulator on that beast!
