What I find so funny is that if a customer comes in with something restored, they always make it seem as if it lost value. Yet they go and restore something and sell it for way more than I honestly think it’s worth.
It depends what it is they say that themselves
That's because some customers have their items restored cheaply and, in most cases, improperly. Whenever Rick has his items restored, especially with automotives and vintage mechanisms, the parts are either outsourced from originals or made by hand.
depends what you are restoring..books, comics are bad to restore since people covet the original item. The things they restore tend to be specifically for display purposes like coke machines which makes sense since a nice shiny coke machine looks alot better in a man cave than an old original rusty one
its because most people dont have things professionally restored

Reflectors on the pedals became mandatory in 1968. It's a good marker for estimating age...
Bruce Fisher not necessarily so because pedals can get broken or worn out and is just about the number one part on a bike that gets replaced other than tires and tubes. PS if you looked at the back wheel that was a Bendix coaster brake with a single red stripe indicating that it was a 63 or a 65 Schwinn bicycle.

I've cleaned up chrome ten times worse. If the plating is intact it can be saved. The paint can be touched up and buffed. The dude didn't want to work on it. Period. Shame to part that bike out
The classics are the best hands down! I ride a '64 Colligate for cross town trips. Out of all the bikes I own, my '64 is one of my favorites.
I'd dump that trashy girlfriend and restore the bike and give to a new lady. Heck yeah!
I'm restoring a 65 Schwinn Colligate . This thing is built so well , Very little needs to be done. Only the originals tires need replacing. As for the Bike here, I leave it as it is.
Little did that Bob guy know, that particular Fiesta bike was thee only one of its kind that is outffited with the rarest of the rare, unicorn, holy grail, Huffy goose neck. Obviously overlooked and not mentioned to Rick. :o

Everything he restored on the show ended up as a reproduction as best. He throws away all the original stuff and replaces it with all new stuff.

The paint is in great condition. Me and my buddy ride old schwinns, and his paint is in pretty bad condition, but when he cleans up the chrome it’s beautiful.

I would have kept it for $100 that too low. It's true, boy bikes are worth more then girl bikes but 60's style and the vintage is pretty cool. Sometimes it not always worth the money to restore it.

I woulda sold the girl instead of the bike. Any girl who can't appreciate a beautiful piece like this is just stuck up and spoiled and doesn't deserve the time of day from some nice dude who took the time to find something special for his girl
He should've fixed it a bit first, or he expected her to restore it? This bike has flattish tires and a lot of rust, I'm sure at least that he could've done. Lazy or incompetent bf is not a good prospect. I personally would keep the bike, and send him away.

What EYE find funny is the fact that the bike is “worth” more as parts to them than just restoring it and keeping it in tact, waiting for the right moment or person to sell to.

They are more comfortable to ride.
The chainring is usually a little smaller too, it's a little faster cadence but it'll still have decent top end.

Based on the serial number, the Fiesta that I have is a 1964 . But it looked EXACTLY like that one - color, light, horn button, rack, EVERYTHING! 😲 Just had to watch out of curiosity 😄
You can clean that chrome with extra fine steel wool and chrome polish or even just car wax. It will polish up nice. Clean painted parts and then wax them good. New tubes and tires. Its less than $100 in supplies, mostly labor. I could sell that bike detailed out for $400 - $450 pretty easy.

We were poor in the early 60's. All the guys got their older sisters' handed down Schwinn bikes. We brush painted them dark blue with cheap hardware store paint. The economic boom didn't hit all of America, most everybody's Dad and Mom worked to make ends meet.
