Thanks for the video. I just replaced my speakers today but I used the factory frame to hold the speaker and soldered the old cables to my new speaker in order to keep original connector. All I had to do was cut the wires going to the speaker and then hitting the old speaker with mallet on the magnet. Now it sounds better but looks stock.
I did the same thing. Took out one frame only to find out the remaining hole was too large for my speakers (Cerwin Vega), so I cut out the old speaker and screwed the new one into the frame with self tapping screws. For the second one I left the frame in, cutting out the speaker in place.
I dont normally comment, but great video. Watched it one time and knocked out the install (head unit, two front door speakers) in about 2.5 hours. Thanks!!
@@EdwardInTX one recommendation...use the Metta speaker connectors for this job. hooked right into the factory bracket without having to tap the wires.

It looks like you don't have any tweeters installed from the beginning. Is that usual? I just had a look at my car (2005 Corolla E12) and I have tweeters installed. As far as I know, no previous owners have done any modifications. Planning to buy a DLS RMC6.2 kit and also replace the head unit. Anyways, thanks a lot for the guide on how to remove the panels. I really appreciate it!
What if I need a higher gauge and can’t use the stock speaker wire on the harness? Then what would the next cleanest method be? My speakers are gonna be 90 watts sustained at most.
@@andresjc502 the speaker will work fine even if the cables arent the right way around . You can usually hear a sound quality difference if you swap the cables around. Whichever orientation has more bass and is clearer is the right way round
You said you didn't replace the tweeters, which is fine. But can you tell me which after market tweeters I can buy to swap? I know the size is 1.25 inch but should I just get a 1 inch or 1.5.
It looks like you can get a 1 inch. Unfortunately, I'm not sure which tweeters you should buy to swap. Check this out: www.toyotanation.com/forum/326-10th-gen-corolla-2nd-gen-matrix-interior-audio-forum/358558-door-tweeter-install-09-corolla-le-6-speaker-option.html

1 inch diameter, and 1/2 inch depth for the standard tweeter. Usually, I've seen people buy the Corolla tweeter cover on eBay. That would be way messier. Separating the "mount" from the "speaker" would be much harder than drilling the rivets. You'd have to dremel through the plastic the whole circumference.
***** I've been thinking of doing that in my 02. So to fill the space left by removing the stock unit you would need a spacer of some sort? It's a lot bigger than a CD Radio unit. And also you would lose the MPG/Average speed info which is displayed on the screen of the old unit?
Interesting to see you have the MPG/Avg speed built into your radio (just looked, USA Corollas don't have that). Yes, you would need the aftermarket radio bezel, which you can have single din with a little compartment opening on top (like mine) or a double din that takes the whole space.

Been trying to find a pair of sail panels for my 2005 Corolla door so I could mount a tweeter. Would anyone know where these are sold besides the dealership?
I think you should have taken the original wire from speaker and soldered it onto new speaker keeping the factory connector instead of using that crappy splice connector.
Oh, unfortunately we do not have those here. Some things I would look at--If you shine a flashlight at the speaker grille in the door, does it appear circular or oval shape? You could probably measure that hole as well.
FINALLY... a good video. every other video cut out too many parts in between which was the stuff I needed!!! thank you very much for this video

Nice job, what model are those speakers a where did you buy them from
I ripped out the old cone and coil and cut away the plastic and just set the new speaker in..I didn't have an adapter plate and it works
Good to know. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks to showing 👍
Very useful video. Are you running these speakers of 60W rms (as i noticed) w/o an amplifier? thanks.
My head unit does 52W x 4. Definitely not hitting fully 60W without the amp but it sounds good enough. Maybe they'll sound even better with an amp.
U means real watts or peak watts???
he means peak 52w
Does it matter which wires you splice together?
Sir, did you install or attach the clear plastic that's holding the wires on this door? If so what did you use, because it's nice, it looks neat
why did you use vice grips to crimp the wires when you just had wire crimper/splicers in your hands?
Handy for my car too I imagine.
Correct. You can do it!

I don't know which wire is positive and which wire is negative. One is /pink and the other is a purple which is the positive wire ?

Drill out rivets 😳😳😳😳
Just leave it the way it is. ✔️
Drilling was easy, it’s the wiring that’s hard.
how did you know negative and + of the car cables

why drill down rivets. Why not cut out the factory speakers and then install using the factory mounts. saves time and makes for cleaner install.

Where did you get that adaptor? And don't you have to make sure about the depth?

What size is the original speaker's?
6.5 front doors. 6x9 next to rear glass area
What's the point? How much better will the sound be now?
Can't give you a definite percentage on how much better, but it's noticeable with the right speakers. No more muddy bass and weak treble.
***** Seems like worth doing then. I hate muddy bass.
Also quick note: replacing the head unit matters too--the OEM one doesn't go far in making the speakers sound better.

I think you should have taken the original wire from speaker and soldered it onto new speaker keeping the factory connector instead of using that crappy splice connector.
Jason Gib It's one option but then soldering is an art and it's very easy to do a bad solder joint and end up with a glitchy connection.
